To set the spell checker to use English in Office 2003

I use Office 2003.  Recently, I was using a documented who wrote in Spanish in South America. I wrote in English.  The spell checker has proved to be in Spanish. I tried to change the country, but whenever I did it would return to the Spanish. I can't find a way to put the spell checker to use only English. I loaded a document originally written in English, but the spell checker remained in Spanish

Can you help me.

Hi hrm911,

Your question may be better suited to the MS Office Word forums... not Windows. See this link: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/word

Hello. I just started using Firefox and am really impressed. I like it.

I noticed that when you post a message on Facebook, there is a spell checker that runs and highlights words that are misspelled. I don't see this using IE9. Is it possible to disable this "spell check"?

    Thank you

    Hello

    You can enable spell check:

    • Tools > Options (Edit > Preferences in Mac and Linux)
    • On the Advanced Options tab, uncheck "check my spelling as I type".

Alternatively inside any input text area, you just right-click and select "Check my spelling" - he should stop checking your spelling.

  • How to keep English as a default value in the spell checker after adding another dictionary?

I added a Spanish dictionary for firefox that I sometimes email Spanish-speaking. Since then, the spell checker has stuck to Spanish language by default whenever I restart the browser.
As soon as I select English, it remains until I close the browser. But goes back to Spanish when I open a new window.
I tried every setting I could find, and I also tried to remove and reinstall both languages via add dictionary.
I am at a loss. Can anyone offer some advice?
    Thank you

You can check the spellchecker.dictionary pref setting on the topic: config page and if the pref tells the user the value (in bold) and then try to reset via the context menu to the default value.

You can open the topic: config page via the address bar.
You can accept the warning and click on "I'll be careful" to continue.

If you do not keep the changes after a reboot or have problems with preferences, see:

  • Why the spell checking language setting does not match prefs.js?

I only have one profile in ~/.mozilla/firefox (default profile), and in prefs.js contains

    user_pref ("spellchecker.dictionary", "en_US");

(which is correct). Despite this, about: config tells me that the language is en_AU, and this is what is used by the spell checker. I can't change to en_US in the context menu in a text field and the sticks of change until I close FF, but the next time I start FF we return to Australia despite the adjustment in prefs.js. Before or after you change the synchronization setting makes no difference. Running in safe mode makes no difference.

The value of spellchecker.dictionary must be "en-US" for the US dictionary and do not have an underscore character.

    • user_pref ("spellchecker.dictionary", "en-US");

You have a user.js file in the profile folder, which can override the last setting recorded in prefs.js?

  • The spell checker in the bad taste of the English

So I am sure I posted this a couple of weeks, but I can't find he's going so here once again.

I am running Firefox 3.6.13 provided with Ubuntu (10.10).

When I use a word like flavor, the spell checker highlights with the tildes and suggests 'flavour '. Similarly for the behavior and other words. I agree (that I just sqiggled; he wants to "recognize) as the British spelling convention. I downloaded the 5.01 spell English of the United States, but that was of no use. I finally thought to look in: config and found: spellchecker.dictionary the value en_AU - in other words, the Australian Dictionary.

I can't just blindly this put to US without knowing that:
-C' is the correct name for the dictionary I need. (Seems likely).
-That the extension above is indeed the dictionary it would have access.

I note that the Australian Dictionary is spelled en_AU - with an underscore - while the American dictionary is spelled en - with a dash. It is the kind of stuff I have to watch out for, because if I bumble, I am not able to restart FireFox.

    Thanks for the help here.

Is easier to let Firefox to do this.

You can see which dictionary is selected if you right click in a text box and open the submenu language.

You can open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you don't.

Also make sure that [X] "Check spelling" in the menu contextual has a tick.

    Checking spelling WinXP and OE6

Hello, I use Office 2010 and Outlook Express 6 with Windows XP. In order to recover the English spelling in OE6, I installed the spell checker for OE http://www.snapfiles.com/get/spelloe.html. I would like to find a similar tool to retrieve the spelling correction in OE6 for Italian. So not the tools that spell everything I write anywhere, but one that works from OE6 allowing me to choose the Italian in the drop-down relative to the menu where to find English (United States) spell now. Can someone help me?

    Thank you

    Best regards

I've been in the OE newsgroup & forums for nine years and I've never seen a third Italian spelling part for OE.

If you have a copy of Microsoft Office 2003, you may be able to get that way.

  • Adobe Flash Professional CS6, cannot use the spell checker, missing or not there

I am trying to use the spell checker on Adobe Flash CS6, everywhere I look for help is very minimal. Most places just say click text > then check the spelling, but I cannot see anywhere, I found these instructions at the assistance of Adobe CS6, but help on the Adobe website has been short a useless.

I'm not sure what is bad mainly because of the minimal help, I found online, but as I said, check spelling is not under the text and nowhere else as far as I can tell. Any advice would help, I think I remember having to add a spelling dictionary to check manually on the older versions of Macromedia Flash is the case here? If so why is it so difficult to find help on this topic?

Thank you in advance for any help.

InDesign CC. English UK is defined in preferences. Spell check shows only English USA. How can I fix this spelling in British English?

Dictionary in the prefs settings are just a selection of what dictionary among those that are installed for each language you want to use for that language. They are in no way connected to set up the language assigned to the text, which is an attribute of character level.

It can be defined in your style, in the character Panel or control panel in text mode.
