Transfer of license of Windows Vista on a hard disc nine

Hi all, I have a laptop HP that came with Windows Vista pre-installed. The hard drive failed (confirmed by running diagnostic BIOS) and I buy a new one today. My question is, how do I get my installation of Windows and the license on the new hard drive? My laptop came not with all drives I know (probably because it has a recovery partition).

In addition, the sticker on the base of the PC has faded with time, and I can't do the license number. Can it be retrieved by MS?

Thank you

Matt Harris

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

Normally, you don't have the product key with the manufacturer of recovery discs.

See you soon.

The OEM of Windows 8.0/8.1 license is related to the motherboard and not the hard drive, so you can reuse the new hard disk provided his will in the same computer.

About the old drive you need not to worry about the formatting as the old disk can never be reused. If you want to be sure, you can physically break the old disk with a hammer before throwing.

You can reinstall and transfer your Windows FPP retail as many times as you like - there is no limit.

However, there is a limit to how many times you can use the online activation. After awhile, you will need to use the phone activation when reinstalling.

Can move you to a new Windows 7 computer

If it's a full license or upgrade retail - Yes. You can move it to another computer as long as it is installed on a single computer at a time (and if it's a Windows 7 Upgrade version the new computer must have its own qualification license XP/Vista/7). The previous installation of Windows 7 on the old computer must be formatted or deleted. You will have to perhaps call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete activation. Turning it on the second computer will automatically be in effect 'disable' the license for the first computer. The key works with 32 and 64 bit, but can only be installed at a time.

If it's an OEM license - don't. OEM licenses, including Windows preinstalled on a computer before purchase and Windows purchased separately, are related to the first computer, they are installed on and cannot be transferred to another computer. To install Windows on another computer, you will need to buy another copy.

You can as long that the product key is not a computer that had an operating system preinstalled Vista installed on it by using this product key (Dell, HP, etc.), or has licensed OEM System Builders, you try to move from another computer.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

    Hi Jeffmackinnon,

Yes, it is possible to transfer movies from the DCR-TRV350 camcorder to your computer Windows Vista using an A / V connection or via an i.Link (firewire/IEEE 1394 cable) connection. The camcorder's USB connection cannot be used to transfer videos as its USB streaming function is not compatible with Windows Vista.

  • Question about the license of Windows Vista

Hello. I didn't know where I should post this. I have Windows Vista, I purchased an upgrade. My question is, "I am allowed to install the software on a friends computer. Original title: Microsoft Software

    Hello

You posted in the appropriate Forum.

Yes, a retail upgrade license can be transferred, as long as it is removed from where it was originally installed.

One license is for a SINGLE Installation.

    ___________________________________

These are the General rules for OEM and retail licenses, which can also help you in the future:

If the machine came with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key supplied with the laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.

Only retail Operating System license that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

    Contact Toshiba.

The starting point for all Toshiba Recovery option is the Toshiba Acclaim self-service page, which includes a link to recovery media .

If your recovery partition is intact, you can get detailed instructions of two separate pages:

    • To restore the original configuration of Windows using the Toshiba Recovery Wizard, follow the instructions of the support Bulletin 98082971.
    • To use the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator utility to create your own reinstallation disks, see support Bulletin 98082984.

  • How to transfer the license of Windows 8 on a new computer

I upgraded an old machine to low spec from win 7 to win 8. The pc is old and while Win8 works ok, I bought a new top spec I want to transfer the license to. I will not keep or sell the old machine.

There's a chance after running the upgrade wizard that the new machine can have questions that would abandon the installation.

Could someone advise best used to go to this please. The same question would apply also for example is an existing machine died and I wanted to reuse the license to a new machine

    Thanks in advance

The phone activation is not available on weekends, its best do you during the week.

If do not want to format the old machine, then its best you just uninstall the license, just in case you decide to come back.

Press the Windows key + X

    Click prompt (Admin)

At the command prompt, type: slmgr.vbs - upk

Press enter, this will uninstall the product key of the computer and to the evaluation mode, you are now free to use it on another computer.

  • transfer a license OEM Windows 8 pro?

    Hello

I currently have the Windows 8 pro 64-bit OEM-based computer (on my box it says Windows 8 pro eng intl for OEM software/Microsoft windows 8 pro 64 bit oem English fqc-05995)
I built the computer myself and bought this Windows 8 from Amazon for £110, I think. My motherboard is about to go but I'm rebuilding my computer, so new motherboard, processor, RAM, so I have to reinstall Windows 8 on the new pc.
My question is... am I able to transfer the license from one pc to the other (the two mines, a fit for the bin) that I have to disable my current license first? and how can I do this.
Or can I build my new pc, format the drive, install Windows 8 and reuse the key?
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Yes, the Windows 8 OEM System Builder License comes with the rights of transfer, you can move it to a new motherboard and reactivate by phone:

  • How to transfer a license of Windows 8

I have a pro license of Windows 8 and installed on an old laptop.

I want to install Windows 8 on my laptop today. Is there a way to disable the existing windows license and activate it on my new laptop?

I got this license in India and I reside now in Germany.

    Thank you

Well, the first thing you'd have to do is to withdraw the license of the current computer or at least uninstall the product key then proceed to upgrade the new laptop using the same key.

    On the old computer:

Press the Windows key + X

    Click prompt (Admin)

At the command prompt, type: slmgr.vbs - upk

Press enter, this will uninstall the product key of the computer and to the evaluation mode, you are now free to use it on another computer.

Update the computer to Windows 8 Pro:

Press the Windows key + X

    Click System

    On Windows, click the link:

Get more features with a new edition of Windows

Click on the "I already have a product key link.

Enter your product key and you will be promoted to the Pro.

Because the key was already in use, you may need to reactivate by phone:

    1. press the Windows key + X , and then click run, and then type: slui.exe 4

    2. then press the ENTER"" key.

    3. Select your "country" in the list.

    4. choose the option "activate phone".

    5. stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    6. explain your problem clearly to the support person.

In regards to the old computer, if it came with an earlier version of Windows such as Windows 7 or Vista, use the recovery partition to reinstall or to reinstall the older version of the original install media.
