  • Everything on my desktop disappeared after I tried to remove a virus from my computer. Details and screenshots inside...

This morning, I got a virus on my laptop Dell XPS. It was one of those fake, 'buy this virus remover because everything that your computer is broken now,' types. To be honest I can't remember not even what it's called. I guess that makes this much more difficult problem. I googled and basically told to run malware bytes. I did, and it removed the virus as far as I know. Before if I tried to run firefox or any browser, after a few minutes she could get out and close. Now, everything works fine and as it did before.

The problem I am facing now is that my office is completely free, and I can not find where everything is more on my computer. I can always open some programs going while the start menu and the search for them, but all my homework records, films, etc., I can't find more. I know that they have not been removed because my hard drive still has the same amount of available space, but I don't know how I'd go get them.

Alongside this, every so often, a window pops up that says "Catalyst Control Center: the host application has stopped working." Does this mean that a does not completely remove the virus?

I'm obviously not the best with computers, but I can usually google my way out of any problem. It's a bit more difficult that it is usually good.

I am running Vista if that makes a difference. Thank you!

  • System tool has invaded my computer. How can I get?

A program called "System tool" has invaded my computer.  Help. How to get out?

No problemo.  I don't know (or I've read) that a lot of singles and other complex malware infections come from competition between technically interested high school students.  Today test: who can write the most annoying and difficult to remove malware!  (of course, it is all for fun).

I think some malicious software also knows bleepingcomputer.com too.  I don't think she feels particularly threatened by some other forums however.  The authors do pay attention to some things you know.

If you want to run ComboFix, I suggest that understand you what you will do if your system does not start after running ComboFix.

For example, you can install on your system first XP Recovery Console.  ComboFix will try to install the RC for you if it is not already installed, but sometimes that is going smoothly.

If you don't have a way to install or start in the recovery of a bootable CD Console, consider creating a CD of first bootable XP Recovery Console. (no media XP required).

You can't have a problem with ComboFix, but she is dynamic and changes frequently and sometimes can cause disturbances to you are not prepared in advance, you can have trouble recovering.

If you have a problem after running ComboFix that may have been caused by ComboFix, you might have trouble finding help, unless you can find someone who has had some practice with it (and has actually fixed problems with it) before.

Then when you did with ComboFix, I'd be sure to uninstall correctly.

Looks like you're on the right track (but hopefully cautious).

  • Unable to connect to the internet after the removal of system tool virus

A computer running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 3 has got a virus System Tool which I believe I deleted using the key of activation and then run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.  On reboot, the system tool icon was still in the system tray, so I ran Norton 360 to remove unwanted registry files.  He got rid of the icon in the system tray.  I also then removed the Malwarebytes software.  Please note that, while I was removing the virus, I was able to connect to AOL so that in mode safe mode with networking.  Finally, who has stopped working.  The Malwarebytes software has been downloaded on the infected computer with a flash drive from a computer with working internet.

I cannot now connect to the internet with Internet Explorer 8 or AOL (under standard or secure modes).  When you are trying to connect with IE8, the message reads 'Internet Explorer cannot display the web page' and when I run the diagnostic tests, it indicates there is a problem with the modem and/or router.  These devices are, however, both the work that there are other computers connected to them and they work.

I tried Microsoft solutions are answers to a similar question.  Unfortunately, none of them worked in my situation.  They have been in accordance with the following:

    No doubt...

What happens when you try to connect to the Internet?

What is your version of XP, the version of Service Pack and IE?

What method did you relieve your system of affection 'Antivir Solution Pro' (how confident you are that you got rid of him)?

Generally, any part of this procedure is necessary after removing Antivir Solution Pro (a well documented removal procedure would have included the steps to cancel Internet connectivity issues).  I would get my infected system and try the procedure you used to see how it works.

If, when you try to connect with Internet Explorer, you see something like:

Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage

    The most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
    The Web site encounters problems.
There could be a typing error in the address.

We will check your network connection properties.

Some malware will alter these settings and your anti malware software can't tell if you have changed the malware changed them or so, after removal of infections, it will leave just the settings as he finds them (it is usually a good thing), but can leave your Internet disabled in certain situations.

Click Start, run and enter in the box:

    Inetcpl.cpl

Click OK to start the network settings of Internet control panel applet properties, connections.

Or, in Internet Explorer click on tools, Options, connections, LAN settings.

These settings control your Internet access for all browsers.

On most environments, not independent, there will be check automatically detect settings and the other boxes are (as Proxy Server) is disabled.

Automatically detect the setting checked =
Use the automatic configuration script = unchecked
Use a proxy server for your LAN = not checked

Make changes, then click OK, OK to save the settings.

Check your settings for how your network adapter gets its IP and DNS settings.  On most home systems, these parameters must be defined for the system will get the settings automatically.

If you have another system on your network that works, you can compare these settings with the settings of the system which is not a work and make adjustments.

Click Start, settings, Control Panel, network connections, and then select your current network connection.

On the general tab, click Properties.

In the drop down in the Middle, find and highlight the selection of Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.

In the Internet Protocol Properties window, the usual selections are to get the IP and DNS settings automatically.  Select the following two options:

    Obtain an IP address automatically

Get a DNS server address automatically

The rest of the options on the screen should then be grayed out/not available.

Make changes, then click OK, OK to save the settings.

Restart your computer and test your connection.

Perform scans for malware, and then fix any problems:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

Also, I typed cmd in the start run box and the command-line entered ipconfig enough and ipconfig/renew.  This is also not rectify the situation.

For your assistance, the following is a copy of a part of the file that I thought that may be applicable after that I typed in miscinfo32 in start, run box:

You have any ideas that could help me find an internet connection?  Thanks for any help.

The removal of the virus seems to have taken some required system files.  See if the System File Checker helps.  Click Start > run and enter in the field open.

    sfc/scannow

Press ENTER.  The System File Checker must detect the missing necessary files and put back them.  If this does not work, use a system restore point from before you were infected.  If this does not work, get out of your XP installation diskettes.

I need to get rid of this horse of Trojan Lsas.Blaster.Keyloger affecting my vista OS. He placed System Tool 2011 shortcuts on my desktop and locked everything up. I could only open task Man in safe mode and I do not see a process of Ava.exe. Can you let me know that this process should be named tonight and that this indication must be for this?

    Thank you

    Hey cottage

Follow the steps provided on the link below, including running rkill before the scan with malwarebytes anti-malware

Use the system restore. Next time think before you install the obvious fakeware.

  • After a virus, I've lost the system restore for cannot defragment now. Also lost system tools/options.

Original title: after a virus, I've lost the system restore for cannot defragment now

I had a virus which caused problems one of the minor being I've lost the system tools. It now says its empty when I open it.

You don't need system defragmentation tools.

You can defragment from the hard drive, then right-click of your hard drive, properties, tools, defragment now.

Of course, you must fix your missing tools too.

Here's the easiest way I know (thank you, Ramesh):

Part of the answer to the technical support engineer Microsoft does not too which make me think that the MSE has never actually tested this Board to see if it actually works or not.  It's a shame.

In addition, these shortcuts are not part in the folder in any case.  These things must go in the folder for all users - if you don't want your XP to be ignored.  It is a source of embarrassment.

I don't know what you used to remove the virus, but I could do that at some point (soon):

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
They can be uninstalled later if you wish.
  • Why microsoft virus removal tool removed partially viruses detected? what needs to be done in addition to ensure that the virus detected is completely and permanently deleted

I downloaded a virus to the web site of microsoft removal tool. I did a full scan and a virus (win/32) or something of this nature has been detected. It has been partially deleted by scanning and removal of viruses microsoft tool. I need to know how to completely remove it and all other virus from my system. any help will be appreciated.

    Hello

When any antivirus program scans and removes a virus to do a reboot to completely remove it from some parts of this virus are active. Given that the virus removal tool didn't you it restart as part of its service, it can remove only inactive parts of the virus. If you run the scan in safe mode it may have deleted all the virus. Just like removing a program, uninstaller was tell you to stop and exit the program until he could remove it. When malwarebytes running, there's a step before restarting it completely removes viruses and malicious software.

Online virus removal tool is there so you can take control of the system and perform a local scan with your antivirus software.

If it helps please click, "has been that useful."

    Thank you
