Two virtual machines always "using network", while the rest of the cluster is "using SCSI hot add.

The testing of VDR 1.2 in a cluster 4.1 with around 60 virtual servers.

I have two Windows Server 2008 R2 VMs who is always using the network, with a full tank and after that all incremental backups.

Nothing matches the conditions of the related knowledge base article and there are several other 2008 R2 servers deployed from the same template that uses SCSI hot add.

The only thing that differs from the other virtual machines, it is that both are mailbox servers in a cluster, Exchange 2010 DAG.

Check the block size for VMFS data store where the VDR-appliance is running. If the larger disk of your virtual machine is greater than the maximum file size of supportet on the VMFS where the VDR, VDR uses the network instead of add to hot. Move another VMFS-store data in big block with the VDR solves the problem in my environment. Also, in this case when the disk you lorsque le disque vous sauvegardez back up is a RAW device physikal mode, which should be ignored for VDR, VDR, but makes the network backup of the other disk of this virtual machine.

  • Help to connect two virtual machines to internal network

    Hi all

I have 9 of VMware Workstation, and I installed two identical WinXP VMs. I put them both on the same custom netowrk (VMnet3) setting. In the virtual network on my Win7 host editor I updated VMnet3 'Host-only (connect VMs internally in a private network)', and I have left empty the box "Connect an adapter to the virtual host to this network".

What I'm trying to do is to connect the two virtual WinXP only between them, a small connection internal, so that a VM could ping on the other virtual computer, but cannot connect to my Win7 (real internet) host.

Now both show WinXP that they are connected (the icon of the internet with two small screens is there), and they both have an IP assigned. However, does not ping one of them to another IP address.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

  • You can force two virtual machines to run on different hosts?

I'm looking to see if we can score two virtual machines to never run on the same host as the other. I thought I had seen this ability in later documentation but can't find it now.

    Thanks for any help!

    Hello.

If you use the DRS, then you can use a rule of DRS 'separate virtual machines.  Go to the Cluster settings, change, then see the VMware DRS-> section to implement rules.

    Good luck!

  • Two virtual machines share the same physical network adapter

I have a virtual network adapter that I linked to a physical network adapter on my box where two virtual machines are running.

I assigned two virtual machines to this vmnet adapter.

On one I can ping other machines of physics on the same subnet as the physical computer, but the other VM can ping only other virtual machines.

When I try to ping from one physical computer to this virtual machine I get the error message windows "ping transmission has failed. General failure. ».

Is what I'm trying to are not not possible?

First thing to do is to ensure the automatic bypass is enabled disabled in the VMnet virtual network editor your use to the bridge to.

Second need to see the output of ipconfig/all on the Windows host and guests and or ifconfig on the Linux host and or guests.

DO NOT copy and paste the output directly in the body of the response rather redirect the output of the commands in a text file and then archive (compress) files in a single zip archive and attach it to an answer.

You can use the following example:

    Under Windows:

    ipconfig/all > "% USERPROFILE%\Desktop\host_ipconfig.txt".

    ipconfig/all > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\guest (n) _ipconfig.txt".

    Linux:

    ifconfig > ~/Desktop/host_ipconfig.txt

    ifconfig > ~/Desktop/guest (n) _ipconfig.txt

Also include in the archive .zip .vmx and vmware*.log for two Virtual Machines configuration files.

  • Two virtual machines running on a same PC network

    Hi all:

I'm running both SUSE Linux Virtual Machines (VM) with VMPlayer on a PC with Windows server 2008. The two virtual machines are configured to the bridge at the same host physical ethernet port (bridge mode). Started the first virtual machine can access the network without problem, but the second VM started not. The order from VM has been changed in order to check if it was a configuration problem on one of the virtual machine, but according to the virtual machine that is launched in the first place seems if appropriate switch VMnet0 and block access to the second VM. Defined for each virtual computer LANs are different: 10.2.1.0/24 for a VM and 10.4.1.0/24 for the other.

Any help will be really appreciated

Case resolved, I realize that he had a message waiting in the toolbar of VMware by saying * adapter Ethernet0 do not have network connectivity. MAC 00 address: 0C: 29:58:61:19 adapter Ethernet0 is located between reserved address or is being used by another virtual card on your system. *. I just checked on google and found an identical case on the VMware communities with the solution: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/269465?start=0&tstart=0. To make the story short my VMs have been duplicated and used the same MAC address. So just stop a virtual machine and generate a new MAC for him in settings-> settings-> Advance-> ECS

  • Network configuration for two virtual machines on a host

I have two XP running on a Vista 64 host using 6.5 guests.  I would like to power instant message between the two guests.  I use the option open, and each guest can comminicate outward, very well.  However, if I send an instant message from one guest to another, the message can't.  All parameters in the virtual network editor are the default values on the two hosts.  Thank you.

so IM between two virtual machines should work as well.

There must be a factor that we haven't talked yet - any ideas?

  • Two virtual machines running at the same time

Fussion 1.0, I remember being able to use two virtual machines at the same time, and each me each own IP without worrying if I used the bridged network configuration or address NAT. With the Version 2.0.1 (128865), only one will get an IP address and the other, the two XP SP3, visit account disabled NETWORK card. Any recommendations?

Yes, it's tru, but I updated the vmx file to have another MAC. NIC I get this error when I try to boot the secondary machine (which otherwise boots fine solo).

As I mentioned in the linked post, there are several unique identifiers that MAC address. Fusion has a UUID, and Windows has a SID. All must be unique (my guess is that it's the SID).

The network bridge on/dev/vmnet0 of the device does not work.

Which will result in network bridge does not work. The only suggestion I have right now is to try to restart the host, but demand around other people seem to be seeing this as well.

  • Cannot resize the virtual disk, the virtual machine by using a «child» vmdk file

    Release: VMWare workstation 9

    SE host: Windows 7 64-bit

    Screenshots below.

I want to resize my VM from 50 GB to 100 GB.

It seems that VMware workstation 9 uses a child for my VM vmdk.  In my case, using its "Windows Server 2008 R2 x 64 - 000001.vmdk" for its virtual disk file.  The correct file should be "Windows Server 2008 R2 x64.vmdk", I think.

There are currently no snapshots registered for this virtual machine, I see.

The virtual machine works well as is, but I can't resize the disk without the VMWare gui, saying I should be perform the operation on the parent vmdk file.

It seems that I do run a snapshot that is not really a snapshot?  How to merge with the older files - Sxx.vmdk to 0000xx - Sxxx.vmdk

I also tried to use the command line tool to manually resize the vmdk parent, but I get permission "access denied" errors.

    Kind regards

Note: Before the procedure you have a good backup of the virtual machine in case you accidentally mess something up.

  • Two virtual machines on the same vSwitch

If two virtual machines are on the same virtual switch, will they still send packets on the physical wire when talking to each other?

It was my understanding that they would not send all packages and contain just the vSwitch traffic but I would just check that.  If they are not, is it possible to configure it so that they do.

    Thank you.

Given that the vSwitches are not connected to each other, you need physical uplinks.

  • VMware 6.5.5 cannot import the virtual machine that uses 2GB "disks of split.

    Hello

I'm using VMware Workstation 6.5.5 under Win XP. I tried to import a virtual machine that was created by using the option 'Split' virtual disks into files of 2 GB. The import fails and presents a pop-up: ' Conversion Assistant/cannot determine the guest operating system. The log file includes the line "could not find the disk cofortcol3v01 - cl1.vmdk. This file does not exist of course, there are more files cofortcol3v01-cl1 - s001.vmdk, cofortcol3v01-cl1 - s002.vmdk and so on. The machine virtual original (cofortcol3v01) has been created under VMware Workstation 5.1, and it does not under Workstation 6.5.5.

Is this a known problem in the conversion utility? Is there a work around for this problem?

    Thank you.

    -Phil Anzel

FYI... VMware Workstation peut import a Virtual Machine that uses twoGbMaxExtentSparse discs.

The log file includes the line "could not find the disk cofortcol3v01 - cl1.vmdk. This file does not exist of course, rather there are files cofortcol3v01-cl1 - s001.vmdk, cofortcol3v01-cl1 - s002.vmdk and so on. The machine virtual original (cofortcol3v01) has been created under VMware Workstation 5.1, and it does not under Workstation 6.5.5.

Is this a known problem in the conversion utility? Is there a work around for this problem?

The problem is that you're missing the "disk DescriptorFile", "cofortcol3v01 - cl1.vmdk" and which is why it's a failure and not a limitation of the Conversion utility.

Also if you actually had a Virtual Machine created in VMware Workstation 5.1 you can simply run directly under VMware Workstation 6.5.5 without having to run the import command.

Anyway, if you have a backup that you can recover the file "cofortcol3v01 - cl1.vmdk" then you should be fine and if you have not then a new can be created.  If you can archive (compress) files vmware*.log (usually 4 of them) in a single zip file archive and tied him to a post in response, then one of us will create a new file "cofortcol3v01 - cl1.vmdk", based on the information contained in files vmware.log for you, if you don't know how to do it yourself.

  • ESXi 4.0 on Dell 1850 this host doesn't support VT you have configured the virtual machine to use an operating system 64-bit client.

    Hello

, I have in 3 data centers Dell 1850, identical hardware configurations.  I installed Esxi 4.0 to the ISO from site Web de VMware dell custom help. He is successfully installed on all servers, without error at all. I've updated them all to the last generation, using VMware vSphere Client. I have a problem with one of the server when I want to use 64-bit machines, he realizes: this host does not support VT you have configured the virtual machine to use an operating system 64-bit client.  However, this host is not able to run 64-bit virtual machines or virtual computer has 64-bit support disabled. For more information, see http://www.vmware.com/info?id=152. I don't understand why I got this, servers are identical, versions of BIOS, firmware, and all updates are the same. There is also a warning in the configuration tab, on the State of health link.

Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestion.

Yes according to the description of CPU, it seems that they do not support intel VT:

  • 2 virtual machines: 2003 & XP - networking

    Hello

I would like to ask, how do I set the virtual network settings and network connections in two virtual machines.

I have 2003, which is the DHCP and DNS, server in a virtual machine.

And another one, XP, which is just a workstation.

The two operating systems run in parallel in VMware Workstation.

What should I do, to set up the Internet access (by host) on 2003 and XP connection for 2003?

Should I use DHCP/NAT in the virtual network Editor?

    Thanks in advance

If you want your virtual machine to Windows 2003 to provide DHCP, you will have to disable the VMWare DHCP server for the vmnet NAT.  (Or disable the DHCP service or the scope on your virtual machine Windows 2003).  But otherwise, NAT will work as long as any other machine on your LAN physical needs access to the virtual machine to Windows 2003.  If there is, then you'll want to bridged.  But then you'll want to disable any DHCP server that you have on your local network.  (Alternatively, disable the DHCP service or the scope on your virtual machine Windows 2003).

  • Virtual machines, run extremely slow when the console is consulted 2 virtual machines Windows Server 2008 64-bit, Windows Server 2003 32-bit, 2 VMWare for virtual machine

I'm in a difficult situtaition here.  I am the daily contact with a new client.  My linux guy, who is also my boss who is very busy, asked me to do some research trying to find answers for what's not on this server. We have a dual Quad Core 2.5 Ghz Lenovo server with 10 GB of ram.  2 500 GB hard drives are Raid 1.  We run Virtual Server VMWare 2 on a Debian with Gnome installation as a user interface for the side of things Linux.  Grub is the boot loader. There are two virtual machines running on the server.  The one machine that serves as a domain controller is a Windows SBS 2008 Server 64 bit, and the secondary machine has no responsibility domain.  The second machine is a Windows Server 2003 32-bit.  the 10 GB of ram 6 GB is allocated to the SBS server and 4 GB to the 2003 server.

The problem I am running into is that everything is so slow, especially if I connect remotely to do any sort of administration on the network.  Some examples of issues I've noticed is that as soon as I log on the server via Remote Desktop SBS console management Windows Server spike to 80-95% CPU usage and it will not stop unless I close the management console.  Another instance is that if I open Backup Exec 12.5 on the SBS server it will kill the speed of the processor as well.  Long story short, there are a lot of machine to do what we need to do, but something is not configured right and non of us know what it is.  Another point to note is that the server has been in production for about 3 weeks, and the server seemed to have locked up just twice.  My professional guess is that over time, some chose thing is eating causing the crash of the memory.

Sorry I do not have much technical insight on this topic, but this is the best I have to offer.  Any questions you all have, I'll ask my people and see if I can answer, but I could really use your help here.

    Thank you in advance,

    Heath

    2 things:

1 you really need hard drives more than 2 in a RAID 1 for proper performance under load. More disks the better. Although I don't think that's what your problem is, he'll probably be the problem Next you will do.

    2. I don't know exactly where the configuration file is on your box of Debian for VMware Server, but you should consider adding the following options in the configuration file (on windows, it's the vmware 'config.ini'):

    prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "100".

    MemTrimRate = 0

    sched.mem.pshare.Enable = "FALSE".

    mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE".

If you do some research, you can read about what these options (the largest is the memory page sharing - it should only be left on if you have a bunch of similar virtual machines running on the same box, that you don't have.) I honestly know why this is on by default, he kills the CPU when virtual machines are running different operating systems). These are the options that I now use standard in VMware Server deployments, with huge performance increases after you have added the. Just give a try.

Edit: Also make sure that you have installed in your virtual machines VMware tools.

  • Create multiple virtual machines with 2 network cards

    1 clone Vms + 20 model

    3. choose a custom unique specification

    4. apply intellectual property on 2 NICs (primary and backup).

    Thank you

Sorry to lose this thread out of my sight.

What follows is an attempt to meet all the conditions you listed.

    $numberOfVM = 20$baseVMName = "VM"$templateName = "Template"$osCustName = "MyCust"$IPBase1 = "192.168.1."$IPBase2 = "192.168.2."$IPMask = "255.255.255.0"$IPGate1 = "192.168.1.254"$IPGate2 = "192.168.2.254"$IPDns1 = "192.168.1.100"$IPDns2 = "192.168.2.100"

    # Target resourcepool$resPool = Get-ResourcePool -Name Resources

    # Get the template$template = Get-Template -Name $templateName

    # Create a copy of the OS Customisation SpecTry {    Get-OSCustomizationSpec -Name tempOSCust |    Remove-OSCustomizationSpec -Confirm:$false -ErrorAction Stop}Catch {}

    $osCust = Get-OSCustomizationSpec -Name $osCustName | New-OSCustomizationSpec -Name tempOSCust -Type NonPersistent

    # Clone the number of requested VM1..$numberOfVm | %{ # Find the datastore with the most free space $ds = Get-Datastore | Sort-Object -Property FreeSpaceGB -Descending | Select -First 1

        # Update the OS Customisation Spec NIC parts with the IP addresses Get-OSCustomizationNicMapping -OSCustomizationSpec $osCust | Set-OSCustomizationNicMapping -Position 1 -IpMode UseStaticIP -IpAddress "$IPBase1$_" ` -SubnetMask $IPMask -DefaultGateway $IPGate1 -Dns $IPDns1 -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | Out-Null

        Get-OSCustomizationNicMapping -OSCustomizationSpec $osCust | Set-OSCustomizationNicMapping -Position 2 -IpMode UseStaticIP -IpAddress "$IPBase2$_" ` -SubnetMask $IPMask -DefaultGateway $IPGate2 -Dns $IPDns2 -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | Out-Null

        # Create the new VM    New-VM -Name "$baseVMName$_" -Template $template -OSCustomizationSpec $osCust `        -Datastore $ds -ResourcePool $resPool  | Out-Null}

The script will create clones of $numberOfVM of the model. The virtual machines will be created at the root of the bunch, and they will be called VM1, VM2...

The OSCustomizationSpec needs to exist and must have 2 network cards.

The script finds the data store with more free space to create each virtual computer.

Addresses IP of NIC are consecutive, for example on NIC1 you get 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2... and so on.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Virtual MACHINE disk, but not in the inventory

I have a virtual machine that has disappeared from the inventory, but is still in the (non-local) data store. In my view, that it was off. I tried to add to the inventory, but received a message that a virtual machine is already registered with that name. I believe that these are the steps that led to this State:

I had a consultant in an ESXi host to replace it with a new one and a few weeks ago. All virtual machines have been moved out of the old host. The virtual machine in question was arrested that we did not use it. I just noticed today that it was not in the inventory because now I'm ready to use it.

Another change that happened a few weeks ago was replacement unit vCenter vCenter. I don't know if who had nothing to do with him or not.

Any suggestions how I could see the virtual machine in the inventory again?

    Hello

As you can see this message, "received a message that a virtual machine is already registered with that name", while adding another virtual machine name use inventory. However, be sure that this virtual machine is not already.
