UAC Patcher with limited user account

I am referring to a section of documentation:

'Control (UAC) correction (Windows) user accounts' located at

http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/Windows/desktop/aa372388%28V=vs.85%29.aspx

I am interested especially in the part:

"If the application was installed on Windows XP, the application must also have been installed from removable media, like a CD-ROM disc or DVD. This restriction does not apply if the application has been installed on Windows Vista. »

I heard a rumor that this restriction has been removed in Windows Installer 4.0. The source of this rumor:

http://StackOverflow.com/questions/11048166/LUA-patching-an-application-not-installed-from-removable-media-XP

Is this true? I couldn't find any changelog Windows Installer. I have found that it's a ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa372796%28v=vs.85%29.aspx ), but there is no direct comparison between 3.1 and 4.0. There is only the comparison associated 5.0 it.

If this rumor is true and restriction of installation from removable media in Windows XP has been removed, then I would like to know, what should I do now. I already install applications to client machines only with Windows Installer 3.1. Is it necessary to uninstall my applications to client machines, then install Windows Installer 4.0 (or 4.5) and then again install my apps? Or is it enough to install only Windows Installer 4.0 and apply the patch created by Windows Installer 4.0?

As long as you are in possession of the admin password, you can install, Uninstall, change settings etc, in a standard user account (limited user account).
There is no (negative) disadvantage of doing.

  • TOSHIBA Power Saver does not work with the limited user account

    Hello
This same question has been posted in 2006 - not by me - with no successful response. I try again.
If you create a user with the account of restrictions (member of the local USERS group) under XP, it cannot manage or power options Windows embedded and the Toshiba Power Saving tool.
I managed, working on the file and registry permissions, to have power options Windows works. But I can not yet launch the Toshiba Power Saving tool, it always skip - rises the box 'you have no rights. "

Is there really anything I can do to work around this problem?

    Thank you

    Yes:

    Log in as administrator
    Run the Toshiba Power Saver
    Go to "configuration Options".
Check "Allow Limited user to change settings"

  • Satellite M40-307: accessibility utility does not work with the limited user account

    Hello everyone,

I have a Satellite M40-307 (PSM44E), and I had a problem with the utility "accessibility", which displays an icon in the notification bar of Windows XP, to inform the user if the "Fn" key is active or not.

This utility would not work for the administrator would not worry so much, because the administrator is supposed to know what he does. But the limited user doesn't have access, that bother anymore.

In Administrator, this utility works quite well. But during a session of limited user, if I try to launch it in [runas / user: admin "C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Windows Utilities\TACSPROP.exe"],
I am replied that the file TCMSVR. DLL is not found. If I launch normally, a message tells me that this utility requires that I am logged on as administrator.

So, what can I do to use this utility normally, i.e. in a limited user Sessiona? *

    Hello

Well, you should try to activate the rights for the TACSPROP.exe.
To do this, you must enter the operating system as an administrator.
Choose the application, right click. There is a Security tab. Here, you need to activate the permissions for all users.

  • Limited user account type?

Last night I reloaded XP pro on a new HARD drive on Dell Latitude C610 laptop mt after that last one of them crashed.  When considering the types of user accounts I see administrator and limited. This is not the first time I rebooted XP but it's the first time I see the designation limited to the account type. In the past, I always saw the types of user accounts, user with power, as well as other comments. The CD has SP2 on it and I don't want to upgrade to SP3, until I have find what is happening.

Never mind. I just received a response from Tekzilla. Thank you

    Later today

The first sign of distress in my event log has been 01/04/12

1515 error: "Windows has backed up this user's profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time that the user logs. »

and 1511 error: "Windows cannot find the local profile and connects you with a temporary profile." Changes to this profile will be lost when you close the session. »

    What brought this?

During this time, I was getting a rash of warnings of 1530 open handle.

During my attempts to fix my account, I get the occasional errors of 1533: 'Windows cannot delete the directory [account]. This error can be caused by files in this directory that is used by another program.  DETAIL - the directory is not empty. »

Are these signs of malware activity?

There was also warnings of failure to notify events profile 1534, which could explain why I had no warning of this problem. These imply that the user profile Service does not work properly?

I appreciate really all the efforts that you and others have invested in this. Thanks to you all.

I was faced with two similar topics at the same time. The poster in this other thread seems to have solved his problem by the roundabout way to impose a UAC challenge. Maybe it will work for you also.
    Here are the steps:
    1. Create a new admin account.
    2. Log in under a non-administrator account.
    3. Try running msconfig.exe. You will face a challenge of UAC.
    4. Use the newly created admin account to respond to the challenge.
This process will create the registry key and the profile for the admin account folder.
    5. Open a session under the new admin account. It should work.
    6. Downgrade the new admin account if you wish.
Please let me know if it works!
  • The new silent update works with Standard user accounts?

For security reasons, I use a standard windows instead of one admin user account.

I actually initially stopped using firefox and switched to chrome because it refused to auto-update when logged in as a standard user.

I hear that Firefox now has a silent update like Chrome.

This silent update allows to auto-update when you use a standard account of Firefox?

Obviously I can't switch back to Firefox completely unless the update feature works with standard accounts

not yet unfortunately. You can keep an eye on the bug mentioned in the wiki of mozilla to see when the State becomes fixed...
