Unexpected restart of satellite P30

Hi all

It is now more than a year, I used my laptop Toshiba P30, but now it becomes difficult to work on it.

Early in the summer time when I was using my computer for gaming, the laptop heats up and shut down. Right now I get the habit of vacuuming dust on the fan using my vacuum cleaner, it helped a lot to avoid overheating.
But 2 months if my fans are clean, I got an automatic restart.

But now it's worse, when I start it the sound never works at the first reset, I still need to do a second. As often time the laptop computer restart itself even after a night off the COAST during the boot or on the first few seconds after the window opening.

I format the HARD disk to clean every thing but for the format, it was also switching OFF. After a few test I was able to reinstall XP, but it is more stable. Soon I start games or other big software the computer turn off (without the warning screen or blue), if I check the temperature of the rear side with my hands I can not feel it too hot.
I also noticed when I have too much connected to it USB (like: USB mouse + USB microphone and Webcam) it goes OFF.

To use it I have to wait until I'm 100% sure that the boot sequence is above and doing things slowly I can surf the net and used by e-mail, but I never know how long I'll be able to use it, sometimes it's a few times, it's 2 hours 2 minutes.

Please, there's someone who can help me?

Vincent

Hello

It's not easy to say why it happens. Generally, it looks like overheating but the laptop should stop down for formatting the HARD drive.
Maybe don t cooling modules work correctly. It is also possible that there is another flaw on a different part.
First of all, you should check if the cooling modules can catch its breath and if the air inlet is free.
The second possibility is to check the parameters energy saver. This application of Toshiba is responsible for the CPU and the use of module cooling.

If all this advice doesn't help t, so the last chance to resolve the issue is to contact Toshiba service for the control of the laptop.

The pc was sent 3 times to the Toshiba technical service: motherboard, memory of the graphics card and hard drive has been changed and bios and updated soft graphics card. After repairs things have improved a little bit and reboots happen about every hour.

Restart is not at all when the computer works alone (download large file, reading movies etc..) without user intervention.

  • Windows XP Home unable to start on Satellite P30

    Hello

    I use WinXP-H on a Satellite P30 (7 years).
The screen died earlier, so I have been using an external monitor, but it's a problem for another time.

A few days ago Windows has been updated. After all 4hours, it restarted itself - do not know if it has finished to day I was away from my office. Windows did not start, just hung on black screen boot WinXp.

I turned off with the power button, left for a while and tried to restart. The first, a few times I could access the screen "Safe Mode, last known good Config etc" with F8, but he only got to Windows once, where it froze.

At the start, only the F2 & F12 keys work now (for the blue BIOS screen and boot options). Tent to start HD causes not normal clicking noises then the "a disk error occurred. CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart message. " I tried to use the Toshiba Recovery disk, but it seems that you wipe the files left on the hard disk, even if she managed to reinstall Windows.

I had saved most of my files, but there are some that I had not succeeded in yet, so I would try to keep them. Forums, it seems that there are several possible solutions:

    1. start from the restore disc Toshiba to format the HD and maybe recover some of the files later with file recovery software.
    2. get an installation of WinXP-H disc, which seems to have a recovery program.
    3. remove the HD and connect it to another computer to delete my files. I'm not experienced by removing computers, but would give it a go, if it was the best option.

    Soon, any advice appreciated.
    Al

In my opinion the easiest way to access the HARD disk is to connect it as external drive to the other PC.
Removing the disc HARD is not so complicated that you can do it alone. If you need help with him let us know.

What you need is the external IDE HDD case. You can buy it on ebay and it is cheap.

In the end I have to say that I think that the HARD drive is faulty, maybe only some sectors do not work and thereby Windows gets stuck on some steps.

I had this old Satellite it there a long time, in red. It is a very nice machine with its fabulous. :)

    Hello

It looks like a hardware problem. You should check the RAM and HARD drive.

    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
With the Drive Fitness Test, you can test your HARD drive. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. You can then the HARD drive.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

    http://Memtest86.com/
Memtest86 is a diagnostic tool to check the RAM. Here, you can also download a CD image.
It s easy to use. Run the test of 3-4 hours and then you will see if the RAM has some errors.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite P30: Energy saving does not work correctly

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Satellite P30 (with Windows XP) and I have problems with my energy saving mode. When I use it for games and other applications of high power, it gets really hot on the edge of the moitor and stops.

Is it for the last month or two. Before that, it was absolutelly no problem. I checked the file TPSTrace and got this error message:
A fatal error has occurred. The program will end. Code: 0x0 rental: MainFrm.cpp (1317)

I do not know what to do with it and how to solve the problem. Any ideas?

    Hi Thomas

It is not easy to give you an accurate diagnosis, but in my opinion your laptop isn't hot because of the energy savings. Satellite P30 is pretty old laptop and maybe you should clean your laptop.

    Have you done this before?

This error seems to be serious and what you can do is to remove the preinstalled energy saver and after restarting try installing it again.

Just FYI: Watch tool is very useful, but certainly not so important and your system can function very well without it. Because of this, I presume that portable hot is because of dust inside. With more CPU and activity hardware graphics card will be hot and must be cooled properly. If the cooling rack does not clean this cannot happen. Initially, notebook will be hot, but one day she is probably turned off without any warning.

In the first trial step to clean your laptop and remove all the dust under cooling grill.

  • Help please: error 0x0000007e Stop when starting up on top of Satellite P30 110

    Hello

I wonder if someone can please help me with a recurring error message I get randomly when starting up. I have a satellite P30-110, with WXP Home SP2 installed. Mobile P4 3.2Ghz processor, 512 RAM, ATI mobility Radeon 9600/9700 series.

Turns off the computer as usual last night. He walks this morning and think that it load the bios OK and then got the black background with Win XP, and then think about this error page came. Has a blue background with the following text:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Make sure you have enough disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video cards.

Check with your hardware vendor for updates to the BIOS. Disable the BIOS memory options such as implementing caching or shading. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

I turned the computer off, then restarted when prompted chose to start windows normally, and it seems to start up fine.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello

If this is the first time, you've seen this error, I'm not too concerned about it. There are not too many people who have not encountered this scenario occasionally.

The time to worry, if it happens regularly, as this may indicate a component defective that will need to be diagnosed later.

On this occasion, I suspect that the start process has detected an anomaly any (possibly a play on hard drive control) and rather than allow Windows to continue it stopped with the error on blue screen.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite P30: it does not recognize DVD discs properly

When I put a dvd in side light flashes orange and the system hangs just for awhile. I sometimes get an IO error when trying to read from a cd. What I put in it thinks I want to write files

    HI Matt,

I suggest that you check in Device Manager to see if there is a problem with your hard drive. In any case, it may be helpful to remove the device from Device Manager and then restart for the drive is recognized again as a new installation.

    Hello John

I think this problem should be properly verified by the service partner. On this path, it is not easy to give an accurate diagnosis. To correctly power AC power adapter, power on the laptop power and power electronic housing must work well. If a place is defective, you can expect problems.

In my opinion, the unit should be checked by technicians.

  • Driver for ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 on Satellite P30

In my laptop Satellite P30 my ATI video card sometimes doesn't cooperate very well using the pc: the result is a blue screen with the message: the file ati3duag.dll creates a problem with your hardware.

Sometimes, due to the same issue (?), the screen appears fuzzy.

I tried drivers for Microsoft (for Windows Vista), ATI Technologies and this Web site, but there is no driver available. May be a work around... ?

Stand by. You have installed Windows Vista on Satellite P30? Where you founded display driver for this?

The fact is that Vista OS is not supported for this older model laptop and Toshiba does not provide any support and drivers for Vista. In this case, you are alone and see how to get it working.

What you can try to do is remove the pre-installed display driver, restart the computer and install it again.

One last thing: you can be lucky that Vista works well on this laptop model because Toshiba has offered the special version of BIOS for all the portable older with Vista support.

  • Satellite P30-145: White Rectangle on screen

I have a Toshiba Satellite P30-145, and he has recently developed a problem with the display. Whenever the computer is turned on, there is a large white rectangle covering part of the screen from top to bottom.

Stopping and restarting the computer didn't help, display settings settings I tried did not work and a system restore did not work.

I think it's maybe a problem of overheating the computer often becomes very hot and sometimes stops due to overheating (even if fans don't seem to be blocked when this happens).

Anyone know what could be the problem and if it can be fixed?

    Hello

I think that the fault of the graphics card might be the problem
Maybe the GPU damaged because the temperature inside the laptop.
As you say the laptop is overheating and it is really possible that it was a reason for that matter.

In my opinion, you need to connect the laptop to the external monitor to check if the same will appear on the second screen.
If you're going to see the same rectangle on the screen then the graphics card is damage and the entire motherboard must be replaced

    Feedback would be greatly appreciated

  • My Satellite P30 shutdowns

    Hello

    I have a Satellite P30 since 2004 and it's good.

But for a few months, when I run many applications simultaneously, or when I run applications requiring many resources RAM or CPU (like games or a² or anti-virus full scan), the laptop stop without a signal (sound or message).

Then, when I reboot, I go to a page that ask me to choose between "without the error mode' or 'last good config' or 'normal startup '.
Usually I start normally (but the same thing happens when I choose other) but the laptop stop before the login the same way Windows page.
It could occurs 5 to 10 times before restarting the laptop properly.

For more information, this problem occurs first when I installed and Runic last game of Baphomet. But since I formatted the laptop and reinstall it properly and the problem seemed to be desapeared. But now, for 2 or 3 days, she came back.

Someone has an idea of what is my problem?

Virus? Internal temperature? Hardware problem? Do I need a BIOS update?

Thank you for your interest and sorry for my English (I'm just french!: p)

    Hello

    > Virus? Internal temperature? Hardware problem? Do I need a BIOS update?

-Virus-> I don t think that it s a Virus if you use Antivirus software that is always up to date

--> Update the BIOS does not recommend that the BIOS update because the laptop ran correctly with this BIOS all the time long.

-Hardware problem-> maybe something wrong with the HARD drive, but it is not easy to say until you buy a new HARD drive and will test it.

-Internal temperature-> probably. According to my experience the high temperature causes a lot of strange problems, and it looks like overheating. Maybe the fans are dirty with dust and debris prevents the runtime properly underway cooling. In my opinion, the fans should be cleaned. Vacuuming is a nice toy but risky because the strong suction can damage fans. Many computer stores provide sprays professional compressed air that can be used to clean the fans.

If this does not help I recommend to contact a technician phone for professional cleaning. Perhaps a new thermal grease which is placed between the CPU and cooling modules could improve the situation.

  • Satellite P30 and Windows 2000...

Please, please, please... help me solve my nightmare!

I tried all ways to install Windows 2000 on my satellite P30. All software and drivers are updated (service pack 4, dx9, lastes drivers, etc), but...

When the installation of the white screen of graphic Ati drivers (ati 9700) appears and it crash (as shown in the previous topic: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=4136&messageID=13825#13825 - I want to reopen that walk but is locked)

The problem is that I have great experience in the software/hardware and I have installed all drivers (drivers omega, satellite m30x drivers, drivers ati, different drivers manufactured, ecc.) but the problem STILL persists.

I'm going to give up, but before that I would like to know, if someone here in this forum has solved this problem or if anyone really expert could suggest me other ways to install windows 2000 on this computer?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Nick is quite right. W2000 is not officially supported for this model of laptop, and you won't find a graphics card driver on Toshiba download site. I assume that you have installed the driver from ATI directly download site. In this case there is no guarantee that it will work properly.

    Sorry

  • Question about port COM on Satellite P30

    Hello

    I have the Satellite P30.

I am trying to connect a GPS to the laptop.
    Write GPS on COM Port - COM1 - COM5

The laptop had only USB and no COM port.
Is it possible to attach a laptop COM port?

    Thank you

    Clive

Do you mean the real com ports or virtual COM ports?

However, I guess that this device can be connected to a USB port and then a virtual COM port will be created.
In this case the drivers must be installed provided with this device.
