Universal magic wand color/value selection?

Is there a way to cause the wand to select pixels ALL similar to a certain value, or the value range throughout the image instead of those comes immediately under the user has clicked the selection?

Similar to how the magic wand of the Illustrator treats filling selections. It will select all fills to the same hexadecimal or less a certain tolerance.

I'm looking for a way to quickly select a large amount of individual shapes, in a model, a rasterized image, without selecting them one at a time and using the function «add to selection» All forms of shares essentially the same color and value.

I am aware that a way to do this is to select the 'negative' space and invert the selection, but I am curious to know if the above method is somewhat like an advanced setting.

If you mean the magic wand tool, no. There is only the regular lasso tool and the quick selection in the selection and the mask tool.

  • URGENT magic wand tool selects a line drawing, instead of the space between

    Hello

I am coloring/rendering a map of the places where I imported a PDF of line drawing prepared in Autocad. To do this, I usually start with the magic wand tool to select areas on the plan and block everything with the pot of paint color. However, this time when I select objects (say the building) selects the black lines in the layer (the line drawings) rather the space between the two. I checked to see if all the lines are closed and I played with the tolerance but he still picks on the lines instead. I tried both on a transparent background and tried to merge the lines with a layer of white background but without success.

Please help if you can, I have a tight deadline to finish it and use the polygonal selection on everything that would be both pain and take too much time! I have Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.

    Thank you.

If there is a problem with gaps - create a copy of the layer. Apply a 1 - 2px Gaussian blur. Use the magic wand on this layer, then make your choice.

  • Magic wand selects the entire image

Hey, I tried to use the magic wand tool to select an area before and it works. But yesterday idk what happened and whenever I used the magic tool want to select a specific area it maintains by selecting the entire image. How can I get this problem? Please answer as soon as possible. Thank you!

    Hi SepetMTJ22,

I'll try to look at the suggestions of Charles. It is very likely that you have a full or empty layer selected, choose everything for you:

Or you have a size of the sample that is too big, make sure that you have defined in a small enough sample point. One is recommended.

  • Magic wand select CS5.5 OSX

Working on a file that is very complex, way back with the shortcuts of the wand (W) pipet (I) and I have to hit something because now my magic wand won't select any what details in my case, when I click it selects plan all work, no matter which layer I selected.

Pref, restarted and trashed without help. Someone has any ideas why this happens?

    I'm on OSX

Solved my problem. In my madness of progressions I have to hit 'Q' and the file came in quick mask mode, which makes the non-existent selections. Takes off quick mask and now its working as it should.

In older versions, it used to turn your screen pink. Don't know why Adobe thought it would be smart to take this feature on, but thank you Adobe, I just lost an hour of my life trying to figure the WTF happened...

  • Magic wand bug revisited

    Hello

I have a problem similar to that which has been described here: http://forums.Adobe.com/message/2693653 on CS5/Windows 7

Namely, the behavior of the magic wand tool is different from what I expect. He chooses always all pixels of the same color in a layer even if the area is not contiguous. This occurs regardless of the setting values: tolerance, anti-aliasing and contiguous. The effect resembles that of a certain type of a "selection by color" tool

    In order to ensure:

    -I'm on the right layer

-J' use the correct tool (magic wand, no quick selection tool)

-J' tried out CS5 and it starts again

-J' tried to reset the magic wand tool

-I'm doing a new selection (do not add to it, she subtracting or which intersect with it)

My little research findings are that this bug (?) goes as far as CS3. At the time there was a trick to change the size of the sample of the eyedropper tool, which had been brought to work. Apparently it only works in CS5 more.

    Any ideas?

    And' sample all layers '?

Could you please post a screenshot with the relevant panels and the bar visible Options?

My little research findings are that this bug (?) goes as far as CS3.

Well, it's far from certain that it is a bug that I can tell.

  • Magic wand does not work when I switch of grayscale, RGB

Hoping someone can help! I have a project where I scanned in a drawn hand image, then open in Photoshop, adjusted for the threshold and then in the menu "layer style", I adjusted the "mixture" level slightly to make the background transparent. I have at this point is my drawing in black on a transparent background. I need to make the white black parties, so I select with the magic wand and the 'fill' with white, but it becomes transparent. Then I tried to change color in RGB mode (it was originally gray), but then the magic wand will not select anything. Can anyone help with this?

If you follow my instructions (#7), no magic wand is involved.

What is its use in this case?

Review: after you open your image:

    1. If the layer is locked, the lock trash?

    2. have you Cmd + click the icon new layer in the layers panel to place a layer below what was the background layer?

    3. you return to the upper layer and double-click on it in the layers panel to bring up the layer Style?

    5. in the section mix if at the bottom of layer Style, have you moved the cursor of the gray-scale top of page from right to left until the surround became transparent?

If you answered 'yes' to all, just follow the previous instructions in my #7.

There is no magic wand involved

    Three reminders:

You place a layer of white in the background (as shown in step 2) layer

You must use the layer > merge to the low order and not the layer > command Flatten Image

You do not need to save the file in jpg format

  • Unwanted edges with magic wand?

    Hi guys,.

I feel like a beginner, though ive use Photoshop for 15 years. But since yesterday, when I use the tool magic wand on a selection and then fill it out, im not anti-aliasing! I think I accidentally hit a shortcut key that I don't know. I'm used to Photoshop on a PC, but I am now using mac and yesterday I was groping for the new layer shortcut, it probably happened then. The Anti-aliasing box is checked on everything, tolerance to 0 (and 32 for the wand). Bicubic/smooth gradients is on (sometimes I turn it on to hard edges for the SNES). Fill a selection through the marquee selection tool gives me smooth edges, but if I then select this same area with the magic wand, it fills as a jagged Ridge pixelated. Im not using path or anything like that, just base selection and filling. What the hell have I done?

Here's where I noticed it all first. Original selection with the circular marquee on the left smooth filling, nice. Selected with the magic wand and when I fill it up again, it's suddenly in stairs and hard.

Pressing Ctrl/Cmd on the thumbnail of a layer, you load a selection which is equal to the visible content of this layer. I think that's what you get with the magic wand, but using the technique I explained you that you will have a final selection more accurate.

  • Magic Wand tool

    Hello!

I downloaded CS6 PS.  I couldn't find miniature tool "magic wand".  Could someone help me please?

    Hello

The magic wand tool is grouped in the same location in the Toolbox as the quick selection tool.

Press and hold on the quick selection icon in the Toolbox and should reveal a pop-up menu when you click on the magic wand tool to select this option.

  • Selection of magic wand that turned bad in CS4 for Windows - how to fix?

I am currently working on a project of game modding than altered uses of the photos as icons.  Most of these photos have (usually white) background which I am replacing it with color gradients.  My usual method for the manufacture of the icon:

    1. Create my gradient background in a white square of size; Save this file.
    2. The Outbox folder, add a new transparent layer.
    3. Open the photo to be altered (file B) and my game-icon (file C) model in separate tabs.
    4. Select the unwanted parts of file B with the magic wand tool; Cut; repeat if necessary.
    5. Select the entire image is in file B; If so, resample a file match B and C (256 x 256 pixels, 96 DPI).
    6. Copy the picture and paste it into the transparent layer of the file has.
    7. Flatten image in the Outbox folder, and then select all and copy.
    8. Paste this new image (with the gradient background) in the C file transparent layer.
    9. Flatten the image into an icon of the full game, recording as a file D.dds with the "Alpha channel" and Alpha DXT3/Explicit options.  (You will need the Nvidia DDS plugin for this step.)

Usually, these steps give me decent looking results (see photos #1 and #2 for a before/after).  Sometimes, however, the wand chooses too and cannot limit the unwanted area more (see photos #3 and #4 for a before/after). I would like to try the lasso tool if my hands partially paralyzed could manage other users of Photoshop here are technical advice?

Color range selections, channel operations, the adjustments made on the custom selections / channels. You need to combine several techniques and selections. For example, you can always try to create a luminance mask, save it as a custom channel and using levels or curves adjustments cut unwanted parts, and then load it as a choice on which you can then use the edges, refine and add / subtract / intersect other selections...

  • Can you after you have selected a picture with the magic wand just delete the background, leaving only the photo?

Can you after you have selected a picture with the magic wand, just delete the background, leaving only the photo?

Or should we use layers to achieve?

    I use Adobe Elements 8.

    Thank you

    Martin

What is your intention to delete the background - replace the white background transparency or others?

Keep in mind that if you delete on the background layer (the default name), deletion is replaced by the current color set in the chip of background color as shown in the toolbar. By default, it is white, so if you are selection and deletion of a white background you will end up with white again. If you want that transparency first change the background to a normal layer Layer renaming.

  • Magic Wand tool selects several items and won't let me not deselect everything I don't want

I was with the SHIFT key to select multiple items, and all of a sudden Photoshop cc is not let me clear ALL.

I don't even have to press the SHIFT key now selects automatically no matter what I click.

The items that are currently selected are not the same colors so I know that this isn't just misunderstanding on these items as I want.

Is it possible that I accidentally changed something where it is set to nothing I click on select automatically?

Why now when I try to disable whatever it is, is not it? I can click on a specific item, select it, then click the exact the same task and it will not deselect.

Help, please! A bit new, but I was easily using the magic wand to select the text and fill with "content-aware" but now even when I fill, he left this section and then selected me will not deselect this period.

  • Issue using the Magic Wand selection tool in Photoshop CS6

I m following a tutorial to learn the basics of photoshop and I m stuck on the magic wand tool, while doing a very simple task. I'm trying to select the white background of the image and then pressing on delete to remove it and make duck yellow transparent image.

But when I press the button remove key a window opens and the eyedropper tool is selected. And when I press DELETE, while the background is filled with the yellow color of the duck. Please look at the picture and let me know how I can fix this.magic-wand-tool-issue.jpg

And when I press on enter, this is what happens:

    yellow-rubber-duck.jpg

This happens because you are working on the background layer which is special in Photoshop. What you need to do, is make a regular layer by double clicking with the ALT key or double clicking and pressing ok. Incidentally that's going to happen with any selection tool not only the magic wand. Hope that helps

  • Driving bad magic wand selection tool

Help...  I had this problem almost every time that I use Photoshop CS5 and previously with CS4. (never a problem with CS or CS2). When you try to make selections based on the color or contrast with the 'magic wand' tool, I find that she develops totally erratic behavior.  Even set a tolerance of 1 or 3 (pen = 0), for example, could select supermarkets or any other tone.

I end up doing my masks (selections), either manually, or using a combination of tools like the magnetic lasso.  It is causing lose me a lot of time.  If anyone has any idea, please let me know.

My system is an otherwise robust processor 64-bit WIn 7, Xeon, 18 GB of Ram.

  • Hide always selectable items with the magic wand tool

When I want to cut a piece of an image, I create a mask on the layer of the image with paint on anything, but the point I want to keep. Something changed and I can choose is no longer this element remains in the layer after I applied the layer mask and painted essentially the everytyhing else.

For example if I wanted an Apple carved into a tree, I've painted all in black except apple, which left white in the mask. After you apply the mask on the layer, I should be able to click in the empty space around the Apple with my magic wand tool and they have to make a perfect around apple selection, but the magic wand tool straightens always leaves, branches, etc. Even if I painted out them and apply the mask, is essentially delete them and all that I can see the gray and white checkerboard grid behind Apple. It makes me crazy!

It's Photoshop CS6 and it was working fine before. Changed something without realizing it?

    Thank you...

Maybe you painted the mask with a very dark black than gray. Apply this mask would leave the color in the pixels, but they are almost completely transparent. The magic wand would always detect the color in the pixels.

Another possibility is that you have accidentally reduced the density of the mask slightly in the properties panel when the mask was targeted.
