Hi All we are planning soon put the ESXi5.1 to ESXi5.5.

Good confirm what needs to be taken in charge things, let's use Update Manager.

I know that we need to upgrade the VMware tool and the hardware version VMs.

Kind regards

Vijay Bhardwaj

Not sure, but do we need to restart after the upgrade of the VMware tool and the hardware of the virtual machines VMware version.

How can we upgrade the version of data store?

What is the restore plan if something is wrong?

For this you need not download it. ISO from the VMware Web site, import on VMware Update Manager and set on a basic upgrade of the host.

How can I preserve the 3rd third-party drivers installed and beams when I update? the 3rd party drivers and the beams are compatible with esxi 5.0? (I thought it would be great if I can go to the image of HP custom because everything I need is built into this image :-))

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello vmklaus,

It works smoothly, and you have two options:

    (a) download the file from VMware "VMware-ESXi-5.1.0-799733-HP-5.34.23.zip" (found on https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?productId=285&downloadGroup=HP-ESXI-5.1.0-GA-10SEP2012) and put them in the data store.

Then SSH to your ESXi and fire following command:

    Update profile of software esxcli d vmfs/volumes / [your datastore] / [your folder]/VMware-ESXi-5.1.0-799733-HP-5.34.23.zip Pei HP-ESXi 5.1.0 - semi-trailer]

    (b) download the VMware 'VMware-ESXi-5.1.0-799733-HP-5.34.23.iso' file, burn the bootable ESXi HP-Branded 5.1 Installation on a CD for the deployment more far.

Don't forget to load the updates, available on http://www.vmware.com/patchmgr/findPatch.portal

Please keep in mind that the HP SmartArray real driver has a bug. It displays an alert on the Firmware even if you load the current Firmware.

    Kind regards

    Josip.

  • ESXi550-201412001 update, including all the hotfixes in ESXi550-Update02

I see it answered in general in places other than current ESXi patches are cumulative and include the previous patches.  And I applied the patch ESXi550-201412001 to a 5.5.0 U1 1881737 system and if it had succeeded upgrade 5.5.0 U2 2302651 using the "esxcli vib update d software" to update all VIBs.  The reason why I wonder ESXi550-201412001 were cumulative of all previous patches is almost half the size of the ESXi550 - 201410001.zip or the update - ESXi550 - 201410001.zip-esxi5.5 - 5.5_update02.zip.  So, just to clarify, I want to assure you that the right way to update U1 1881737 5.5.0 through 5.5.0 U2 2302651 and Miss patches of safe or corrections of bugs jumping ESXi550 - 201410001.zip or update--esxi5.5 - 5.5_update02.zip is simply update using ESXi550 - 201410001.zip.  I would like to be sure before that the deployment of the fleet. Is this correct?

VMware KB: VMware ESXi 5.5, Patch version ESXi550-201412001

VMware KB: VMware ESXi 5.5, Patch version ESXi550-201410001

VMware KB: VMware ESXi 5.5, Patch ESXi550-Update02: ESXi 5.5 full update 2

Yes, ESXi patches are completely combined.

VMware Update versioning can be a bit confusing. Know that you have patches (whom you connected) that contain the actual individual patches, which there may be many of even the same packages. Why some patch releases are double the size of some other versions of the fix is simply because they contain the same packages with different categories of update and fixes twice.

Take a look at the KB articles, that you are connected.

Version of the patch ESXi550-201412001 contains only a single ballot:

    Patch ESXi550-201412401-BG: updates esx-base.

    This patch contains a VIB: VMware:esx VIBs basis included: 5.5.0 - 2.42.2302651

However, the patch ESXi550-201410001 version now contains a total of 7 newsletters. Among these 7 are two independent (cumulative) esx-based updates and:

    Patch ESXi550-201410401-BG: updates esx-base.

This patch is a complete maintenance of the binary base esx version and contains a VIB: VIBs included VMware:esx - base_5.5.0 - 2.39.2143827

    Patch ESXi550-201410101-SG: updates esx-base.

This fix only contains fixes related to security of the files binary esx-based and contains a VIB: VMware:esx included VIBs - base: 5.5.0 - 2.36.2093874

Note: The above correction version also contains all these security fixes as well, and that patches are cumulative, simply install only output bug (or any hotfix that contains the VIB esx-base with a higher number of construction).

VIB esx-base is by far the largest package of a system of ESXi and this build version is what determines the ESXi host general build or update level X.

  • problem installing ESXi5.5 Update 1

After ESXi5.5 Update 1 installed, my system seems to be in a perpetual loop.  Through the installation process, then it leaves me on the screen 60 day trial, asks for a restart. After the reboot, it goes through the process of installing again.

to restart, there is a screen that flashes by quickly with the color and the two lines of information. Then it goes to another screen with "entry to start" at the bottom left and a second count 5 down timer and a Shift + o in the lower right corner. If I do nothing, he proceeds to a system restart and falls in install mode. IF I catch him fairly quickly, I can do the shift + o and it drops me to a screen prompt. There is a command at the prompt which I think is the root of my relocation. If I delete this command manually, then the system starts normally and I am able to get in the product to change the IP address, passwords etc.

How do I get rid of this command that seems to be incorporated into the start cycle so it will start just in the system?

Have you tried to unplug or remove the media that you use to install when you restart the box?

  • Update manual esxi5

    We have vCenter5 and 3esxi5 o Guest

A drs/ha cluster.  We have no Update Manager works but it takes run esxi patch.

I know that I could do it individually for each host by using the command line.  Since vCenter is operational, I wonder if there is a way to generate patches scripts of all hosts in the cluster.  Is there a sample script that I could use to do this?

I know it sounds weird and using AUVS would be the best option, but there is a good reason for this

    Thanks in advance

Take a look at this blog post: fastest way to patch an ESX/ESXi using the command line. VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

And rather than use a script to automate the upgrade of the entire cluster, I suggest you do the upgrade of the host, one by one, and follow the other only after confirming everything it's ok.

  • Crash/reboot of the server: vnetflt.sys

    Hello

Does anyone know or someone at - he heard or saw any problem with the driver for VMXNET3 with Windows 2003 R2?

We lack ESXi 5.5 with a mixture of Windows and Linux clients. We have migrated all of VMware Server 2 using the VMware vCenter Converter to bring everything up to VM version 10. VMware Tools have been installed.

Since the migration of Windows guests have been very unstable:

    * Windows 7 comments 'locked' or 'frozen' once and we had to reboot the host to get it back up and running

    * Windows 2003 Server R2 comments also "froze" requiring a reboot of the host

Different someone from Windows 2003 R2 is crashing and restarting a TCPIP question.

All three guests are configured with the VMXNET3 Adapter Type. All three machines have experienced "in camera". Night last time Windows Server 2003 R2 clients have crashed and restarted on The STOP ERROR 7f.

I analyzed the crash dump memory for both Windows Server 2003 R2 customers and they both are pointing the finger directly vnetflt.sys . Clients are configured with Type VMXNET3 adapter and underlying material on the ESXi host is an Intel 82599EB Gigabit 10 IFC / SFP +. Interfaces of the clients come using the vmxnet3 driver version 1.5.1.0 Ethernet adapter (vmxnet3n51x86.sys) and report 10 Gbps speed. The check box for the power management is also (option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"). Maybe should be turned off?

No one can say or do someone knows or has heard of problems with the vnetflt.sys. It is a component of the VMXNET3? Should I use a different driver?

    Clues are appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Hello world!

This is just like the title says. I downloaded the update--esxi5.1 - 5.1_update01 to my local, connected data store via SSH and ran the "esxcli software install wine d ' [path] .zip" "command.

When I hit enter, all skipped VIBs and nothing is installed or removed. The host is running 5.1.0 799733.

Anyone has any ideas what could be causing this?

Although the VIBs all ignored, I rebooted the host and it has been upgraded.
