Update for XP Home Edition of Windows 2000?

Hi, I have a computer with Windows 2000 installed.  I bought a copy of Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade Edition, but I noticed on the box it says you can upgrade only from Windows 98?  Can I use this retail XP Home Upgrade for upgrade form Windows 2000?  Or I have to send the box before I open it?

Thank you

  • Disable automatic restart after Windows Update for the home edition of Windows 8 forced

I use Windows 8 home edition.  I want to keep automatic updates turned on, but I don't want my computer restarts automatically after some Windows updates are installed.

I am aware that there is a notification on the lock screen, indicating that a reboot is needed, but normally, I keep my computer on all the time and don't ever see this notification.  There are no notifications on the desktop until 15 minutes before the forced restart.  Still, he seems to be at an inopportune time and translates into loss of work.

I saw messages and articles describing the methods of disabling restarting forced on different versions of Windows by changing the registry keys or by using the Group Policy Editor.  But Windows 8 Home edition does not have the registry key mentioned nor has he a Group Policy Editor.

Is there a way to display the notification on the desktop even more in advance?

Is it possible to postpone indefinitely or completely disable the forced reboot?

I get an error message "Windows cannot find gpedit.msc", probably because I have the Home version and not Pro (even though I really don't like about the reason, I get the error, to be honest).  Which unfortunately for Member States does nothing to increase the probability that I'm going to buy the Pro version (of Win8 or any later version) and instead reduced the probability that I will never buy another product of MS at all.  If anything this behavior makes more sense to a professional (i.e. IT Department coordinated group policy settings) rather than a home setting, so for me to have no way to remove/fix this "feature" really turns me off purchase Windows for domestic use.

Oh if you have a House version, you will get the editors of group policy.  Actually, politics made the most sense for users.  Send the editorial at MS, not me.

Can I get an update for xp home edition 2002 to my computer without being connected to the internet?

    Hi SelenaMR,

Are you facing any problem to install updates?

In Windows XP, it is not possible to update Windows without an internet connection.

Windows Update uses your internet connection to find updates on the Windows Update Web site or on the Microsoft Update Web site that apply to your computer.

All windows updates are installed automatically with success except on my Windows XP home edition SP1.  It lasts for years, but now I'm wondering if there is a problem of security which is not treated without the update.

  • Can manage Windows XP Home Edition of Windows 8? Get the error codes for the security updates (0 x 643). ALL through Microsoft Tech INFECTED with the virus and Trojans tried. I need help BADLY. Thank you.

I tried every thing blessed with technology microsoft... always hanging in limbo here.  Tired of doing constant comprehensive analyses, etc. in order to remove the constant threats.  Apparently my McAfee can't stay with her either.  Need help with the download/repair these seeds as soon as possible.  Thanks to all those who wish to help me - it would be that popular, for sure!

    The question makes no sense.

"Can manage Windows XP Home Edition of Windows 8?"

Two problems: there is no Windows 8 and even if there were, Windows XP Home Edition would not not 'manage '.  ;-)

I drop McAfee for a few different freeware products.  Or better yet I'd get two products 'cost' (~ 25 and 60 dollars) and install them and use them in the future - but WHEN you are trying to clean up.

You seem like you maybe sincerely - at a time when a format/install of Windows XP/patching/installation of applications/patch/restore backups of your data is the best course of action.

However, if you are willing to work - maybe we can at least get things cleaned up to a certain point where you can get a good backup before doing this (otherwise avoid doing all together.)

In the order shown, do not jump (no matter what you do, what you have done in the past, etc.) ...

First of all - download, install, operate and put to update and then run a full system scan with the following two (one at a time, reboot in-between):

After you perform a full scan with one then the other and remove anything they have all two are completely, you can uninstall these products, if you wish.  This initiative will allow to check there is no malware floating around your system which could cause problems.  If you ask - no, Norton probably does not protect you from what these applications can find.

Download and run the MSRT tool manually:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
(Ignore the details and download the tool to download and save to your desktop, run it.)

    Reset.

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

    Reset.

Download/install the latest program Windows installation (for your operating system):
    (Windows XP 32-bit: WindowsXP-KB942288-v3 - x 86 .exe )
(Download and save it to your desktop, run it.)

    Reset.

    and...

Download the latest version of Windows Update (x 86) agent here:
    http://go.Microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=91237
... and save it to the root of your C:\ drive. After you register on the root of the C:\ drive, follow these steps:

Close all Internet Explorer Windows and other applications.

    AutoScan--> RUN and type:
    %SystemDrive%\windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe /WUFORCE
    --> Click OK.

(If asked, select 'Run'). --> Click on NEXT--> select 'I agree' and click NEXT--> where he completed the installation, click "Finish"...

    Reset.

Now try usig the Fixit (Yes - try to use it again) to reset your Windows Components Update (you'll do the aggressive version, not the other):

Now, open Internet Explorer, visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and do a CUSTOM search for updates.  Install any critical/high-priority ones and - for now - to ignore all those in option (always do this for material updates optional here.)

Restart if necessary and continue to visit this web page until you have not yet updated to high priority.

Now - if your problem is with the facilities of the .NET Framework...  You can end up with something like:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx
to uninstall a few versions of the .NET Framework, then you can try to install again - but you should not do this until the machine is supposed to be cleaned.

  • I still get the update for 2005 express edition SP4 on my automatic updates

Windows XP version 2002 the home Ed.

I have Windows XP Home ed. 2002 version on my laptop, I get the update for 2005 express edition SP4 on my automatic updates. Should I ignore it?

You missed to type exactly what says the photo at the top of the first window I had open to you.

You typed the name of the product by typing the name of full patch available for you.  "Microsoft SQL Server 2005".  This is the product that is the update for.

This site, the site of Windows/Microsoft updates and - well - any web site of Microsoft is not * my * web site.  Like you and many others who ask questions and answers on this forum, I am just a user of the products in question.  You do not normally talk to Microsoft in any direct way (or representative) in these forums.  There are Microsoft employees that could pop and answer a few questions here and there-, but for the most part paert - just people devote time and knowledge freely.

Now, back to your question.  Looking at article in the Knowledge Base Microsoft (KB) for the update that you say is offered:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2463332

He said one of these products:

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition for Itanium-based Systems
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition X 64
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition for Itanium-based Systems
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition X 64
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition
    • Database internal Windows

Could be the reason that this particular update is offered.

As a general rule, given you have Windows XP, would you install updates critics/high-priority updates from Microsoft, or Microsoft/Windows Update web site.  The optional parameter is only... As an option.  Most of the people here would agree - you should avoid all non - Microsoft drivers for hardware devices available from automatic updates from Microsoft, or Microsoft/Windows Update web site.

-If you install this update?  Yes.

Why?  You have the a product mentioned above installed and it needs patches.

What happens if you have trouble to install the update?  The web page I've linked to the KB article has a section "Troubleshooting Windows update issues" - use if you have problems with this update of Windows.

(3) .exe could not be verified.  I clicked on run. The installation wizard you need to enter the name, organization, and serial number I did, come I clicked Next, it loaded and I clicked on finish.  Another error message-Sorry there is a problem with your game to the top.  MYOB bills just to reinstall, and then try again.  I tried a few times and I am extremely frustrated.  I would appreiciate advice please.

PS: while you're at it, ask them if MYOB JustInvoices can be used with Windows Live Mail as default mail Client? [1]

Speaking of Windows Update, is the computer currently fully patched to Windows Update?

You experience problems printing in Internet Explorer?

[1] if MYOB JustInvoices requires a full or an e-mail client MAPI extended , it's not like Windows Live Mail is only a Simple MAPI e-mail client. [Yes, it's very confusing!]
