Are you facing any problem to install updates?

  • Vista Home Edition SP2 update fails on reboot

I tried to go through the SP2 Auto x 2 update and whenever it gets to a point where the system restarts, it freezes with:

Suggestions to make this upgrade work?

    Hello

Run the update tool for Windows Vista system and follow the suggestion below. To run the tool, follow the link below.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us

As the auto update option to install Windows Vista Service pack 2 fails, you try to install the Service pack manually. Follow the link which will take you through the process.

Note: Before you start to install the Service Pack, disable the security software installed on your computer, such as sometimes conflicts with the installation process. The security software again once installation is complete.

If you want to check which is the service pack that you have on your computer,

Click Start, right-click on my computer.

If you have Service Pack 1 has already been installed on your computer, you can go ahead and install Service pack 3

Otherwise, you must download and install Service Pack 2.

And later, you must install Service pack 3.

  • Disable automatic restart after Windows Update for the home edition of Windows 8 forced

I use Windows 8 home edition.  I want to keep automatic updates turned on, but I don't want my computer restarts automatically after some Windows updates are installed.

I am aware that there is a notification on the lock screen, indicating that a reboot is needed, but normally, I keep my computer on all the time and don't ever see this notification.  There are no notifications on the desktop until 15 minutes before the forced restart.  Still, he seems to be at an inopportune time and translates into loss of work.

I saw messages and articles describing the methods of disabling restarting forced on different versions of Windows by changing the registry keys or by using the Group Policy Editor.  But Windows 8 Home edition does not have the registry key mentioned nor has he a Group Policy Editor.

Is there a way to display the notification on the desktop even more in advance?

Is it possible to postpone indefinitely or completely disable the forced reboot?

I get an error message "Windows cannot find gpedit.msc", probably because I have the Home version and not Pro (even though I really don't like about the reason, I get the error, to be honest).  Which unfortunately for Member States does nothing to increase the probability that I'm going to buy the Pro version (of Win8 or any later version) and instead reduced the probability that I will never buy another product of MS at all.  If anything this behavior makes more sense to a professional (i.e. IT Department coordinated group policy settings) rather than a home setting, so for me to have no way to remove/fix this "feature" really turns me off purchase Windows for domestic use.

Oh if you have a House version, you will get the editors of group policy.  Actually, politics made the most sense for users.  Send the editorial at MS, not me.

Or, if you do not want to use powershell, open a command prompt and run this (all one line):

  • Latest version of Skype for Windows stops unexpectedly

This is not the Preview version of Skype, but is the oldest Skype for Windows, version 7.28.80.101. I'm a (paying) happy user of Skype for the past 7 years, and it is pretty central to my work as a tester of computer software. I noticed the new behavior very recently where Skype just stop with any kind of message that I saw, and if I do not realize and restart the application, the people I work with who just thinks I'm offline. No idea what could be causing this or how to fix it?

I guess that the problem is caused by the strange interaction between app overview of Skype and Skype for Windows desktop:

    https://community.Skype.com/T5/Windows-desktop-client/Skype-just-closed-itself-uncommanded/m-p/44833...

Even if you are not actively using the preview application, its context process, SkypeHost.exe, runs in the background and may periodically close the Skype desktop.

I did not see Skype on my computer and can not verify this behavior, but this problem has been reported elsewhere.

  • Windows XP Edition Media Center key also works for XP Home Edition?

    Hi all

We had a laptop (A-100), which WinXP MCE is installed. Also, we do not have a restore CD.
Now I want to format C: and re - install Windows - but I have a windows xp home edition Setup CD.

    So my question is:

    * Fact (legal!) Key XP MCE does work with XP Home Edition? *

Thank you for the useful answers or advice! =)

    Hello

The key that you can find on the lower part belongs to the copy that you have with your laptop and it is not a universal key.
In General, you can't use it to activate Windows XP Home edition, if you use Microsoft installations CD.
You can try it, but I'm 99% sure that this will not work.

  • After a recovery, I can not download the SP3 for XP Home Edition and automatic updates do not work without it.

After making a recovery, my Automatic Updates download updates and SP3 will not download. The error message says that I need to download SP3 and tried about 20 times without success. I have Windows XP Home Edition. The SP3 update was on the computer as it came out and was still on the computer at the time that I made the recovery. I have Webroot and Windows anti-virus.

I did not stand alone Setup because it indicated that it was for computer scientists and and download on several computers.

This warning from Microsoft can be ignored. If this also fails, try please report and the stand-alone Installer. I suggest saving the Setup program and then run it from the save location once the download is finished, this will avoid having to download it again. The SP3 installation may take some time according to the PC on which it is installed. 30 minutes is longer than some I've done but less than others.

To determine if SP3 is still doing, looking at the disk activity light and listen to the disk activity. If the light blinks and you can hear sounds from the disk drive, it is likely that SP3 is still what he needs. You can also start the Task Manager before starting installation (via ctrl-alt-del) and monitor the process of CPU consumption on the process tab to see if things are still active.

"When I try to manually install SP3, I get two windows.

My assumption is that you're trying through Windows updates, if this is not the case please can you explain exactly what you do?
