Eventually, Firefox has created a new profile with the update. If so, you should be able to find the old man.

On my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit system, I met worse problems I've had with Firefox (all versions, I tried the oldest and the newest, who currently use 37). One day, I rebooted by computer, and when I started Firefox, it was completely broken. He was not able to load my favorites, TabGroupsManager could not load my recorded session and it crashed when I tried to search Google or visit several Web sites. I couldn't fix it and migrate Pale Moon until exactly the same thing happened there. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled, but now whenever I open it, it's as if it was just installed - no profile information, no Add-ons, no Favorites, absolutely nothing. Application data HAVE folders for profiles that have been opened every time - Firefox does not access and does not recognize that they exist.
I'm totally lost and at the end of my mind. None of the aid or other sites have been any help at all. The problem is exclusive to a single computer - two other computers I've used do not have this problem at all. Help, please!
(Additional note: when I met the first problems of Pale Moon, it gave me an error that it could not access the bookmarks and history because another application has their use.) This error never appeared in Firefox, but given identical patterns of problems and the fact that the pale Moon is based on Firefox, I think it might be relevant).
Well, I think that the problem at least explained that now and patched up right now. I went to a COMPUTER specialist at work and after work things have stabilized.
The computer I'm is a Department that usually connects to a server. The profile data is actually stored via this server, and when I lived the problems, I was at home and that it was not connected to the server said. Normally it is supposed to be a current synchronization that stores things like that to a task on my computer - but for some reason what not really, or at least not properly. That's why I couldn't find a profile.ini file - it was only stored in a place that could not access the computer. After getting to work and do a few random files and other reading, Firefox and Pale Moon are fully functional again, and I can't find the files profile.ini appropriate on the server (they are not yet on my computer, and I don't know how to read locally).
The best solution to the problems 'offline' we had was through a VPN so that I always have access to the server. I would like to get the files on my computer so that I wouldn't have to worry about this, but it's a question that needs to be addressed separately.
Thanks to Seraph for their help in this confusing issue. I have an idea of what to look for if something like this happens again.

I update firefox from version 7 to version 8, now when I run firefox every time it itself open the Web "to start with firefox", in firefox options I select the "show a blank page" but his does not work. I use firefox on windows XP - SP2.
Try to restart Firefox, the time of a page (s) after the beginning of a new version should disappear. In fact this last time with 8.0 they did not come to the top for me.
If it works then raise Subject: config and insert the url of the page into the filter. Right-click on anything that appears and use "Reset".

When I run firefox, instead of loading the home page, firefox displays a blank page with 'New tab' as its title. If I try to open a new tab and try to enter ANY website, it will show she is responsible for a second stop and stay in the same situation, a blank page with 'New tab' as its title. Other browsers work perfectly well.
I have tried running firefox in mode without failure, disabling all plug-ins and extensions, check my firewall, reset firefox... all to nothing does not. Help, please!
Reset puts a "old settings" folder on your desktop. Don't remove that immediately, because you might need some of its content.
You can reinstall the full installer Firefox? You don't need to uninstall first.

go to try to get back to 33, but not too technical advice is welcome. Too tired to think straight right now. I wish that these "developers" would cease to Holy shit that works perfectly well.
Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problem.
See "create a profile":
- http://KB.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a profile already used in the new profile, but be careful not to copy files corrupted to avoid transporting more problems.

Unable to get the list of bookmarks to stay on the screen, it works, does not go to sites I click but becomes annoying when I have a certain sites I check daily having to open the menu each time.
Press the control key, then b. Is the Panel on the left side you want? If you leave that open, it opens automatically whenever you restart Firefox in the future.

Windows 7 on a Dell desktop computer. Firefox updated to version 6.02 yeaterday. When I then opened it, I found nothing, nor the software let me restore backup bookmarks.
One possible cause is a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

install the new version of firefox will save my old settings such as bookmarks and custom parameters
If I install the new version of firefox, it will save my custom settings and bookmarks?
It seems that you already have the latest version, Firefox 6. You can look to the right of your question or you can look at help > about Firefox.
To answer your question, update usually retains your personal data (bookmarks, passwords recorded, etc.). However, it is always a good idea to keep a backup of your personal data in case of hard drive failure or accidental formatting, preferable on another hard drive, a USB pin/USB/thumb/key or a CD/DVD, so that you don't miss them. I use an add-on named FEBE for me to do on a regular basis.
- See backup your information and profile backup (Mozillazine)
- FEBE: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/febe/

I can record is more than all of the new bookmarks after update to Firefox 40.0.2.
I have over 1000 bookmarks and also use xMarks.
I tried to remove 5 bookmarks and save a new bookmark, but it does not work.
When I click on the bookmark star, stars in the bookmarks folder jumps, but does not record, it does not offer the possibility of filing in the subfolder right it me and the star is not awarded (there should be one filled with stars when the Web site is updated bookmark)Thank you for your help. I tried the maintenance of places without success. I have disabled xMarks, but it made no difference, I couldn't save all new bookmarks. I went on the site help above and deleted the "places.sqlite" file and recreates a new file, but it didn't work. I uninstalled Firefox full using IOBit Uninstaller and reinstalled, but I found this program does not delete the profile folder (used to have a checked during uninstall of Firefox, but it seems to have disappeared in the latest versions). The problem persisted.
Finally, I took a screenshot of all my addons. Then, I uninstalled Firefox again, then delete the entire folder profiles (located very usefully described in the second link above https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#w_fix-the-bookmarks-file )
I reinstalled Firefox, reinstalled xMarks and connected and transferred all my favorites, I reinstalled all my previous addons and ALTO - it now everything works perfectly!Thank you for your help

How can I retrieve the bookmarks and folders that were lost when Firefox updated?
This morning, there was a message that firefox should be updated. Since I did not like (or use) Google Chrome or IE, I unchecked the options as part of the update. Once the update is complete, all my favorites and folders disappeared. Is there a way to retrieve either the lack of points OR restore/roll to the firefox browser that I was already using?
Hi, first of all open the bookmarks > show all bookmarks > import and backup > restore and see if you have a backup there.
If this isn't the case, please see - profiles - where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user dataand recovery of data from an old profile.
If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

I updated Firefox today, and my list of previous bookmark has disappeared. I tried to use the "import and backup" tab and follow the instructions in the Firefox page to backup and restore my previous favorites. Unfortunately, nothing has happened. Could you please help me with possible advice/guidance on how to solve this problem? This is the second time that, always happens when Firefox receives updates...
You seem to be using the Developer edition / Aurora pre-release version, which creates a new profile after installation or update on the Aurora channel. Open Options > general and check or uncheck the box at the top that says allow Firefox Developer Edition and Firefox to run at the same time. Once you restart [as to] you will 'switch' on the other profile, where your bookmarks are - If all goes well.
If you don't like "updates", why do you use a version alpha-2 who receives an update every day?

My computer crashed and I had to restore it to its condition of purchase (2008). I had backed up all my data on Mozy. After the restoration of 12 GB of files, the 'Favorites' folder is in C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\favorites. The old shortcuts are in the folder, but I can't have them at my bookmarks Firefox tab. How can I do this?
You can't do it this way. Those are the Favorites of IE and Firefox can't handle these files. You need to export your IE Favorites in bookmarks.htm format so that you then import this file into Firefox.
In Internet Explorer:
File > Import/Export - Export to HTML filethen in Firefox:
Bookmarks > show all bookmarks-> import and backup - import HTML... = HTML file -
