Updated profiles but lost
I just upgraded to el Capitan, but he did create a new profile and my existing profiles have disappeared. my files are all associated with my existing profiles. Help?
What do you mean it does create a new user account?
It will make a new offer, but don't require it.
Confirm that you erase the disk before installation?

I use firefox on a MacBook pro. Mac OS X version 10.7.5. There was an update of firefox on a day or 2 ago. Since this was done, I was getting 'syntax error' 5 times, each time that a page has been loaded. Some research has suggested that an application or a plug-in called "social fixer" might be the problem but I could not understand how to get rid of it so decided to try to reset Firefox. Minutes passed and a message was on the screen saying the old files of firefox have been been "cleaned" or something, but it seems to be 'stuck' because the progress bar was little jerky. Doesn't it usually doesn't. So I clicked on "Cancel". After that, I couldn't even firefox to start. Looks like my profile is unavailable or inaccessible. Following the instructions found on the support site, I created a new profile and I thought I copied the files from the previous firefox on the new profile, but when I run firefox, it's a blank slate. None of my bookmarks or passwords are there. It must be here somewhere, but I can't seem to understand.
Looks like there was a problem with updating the profiles.ini file.
You can try to remove the current profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile where Firefox has not done that.
You can check if there is a profile folder with a number of attached time stamp and in this case, you can set the location of a profile created in this folder.- http://KB.mozillazine.org/Recovering_a_missing_profile
- http://KB.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
If you need to recover data from an older profile, always in the default location, or as a folder of old data of Firefox on the desktop then see:

by turning on the computer a help and support update runs, but will not be finished
I start my computer and help and support update starts but usually ends it starts before im connected to my wireless and I'm going to the task management to stop the task if I can get online and connect, when I try to update, it is said there is no update needed.what can do to stop this Thank you
Go to start / search box and type msconfig and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears. Go to the Startup tab and see if you can find that help and support update program which are listed there. If so, uncheck the box next to it, so it will not load at startup, click OK, and exit. Then reboot and see if that solves the problem (but you won't update whenever it came from). If this does not work, go to start / Control Panel / Administrative tasks / Task scheduler and see if the help and support update is listed here - if so, delete it and will try it is no longer to load at startup (but you have lost the update whenever it came of).
If this does not work, please transfer your question in Forum Windows Update: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/threads people who specialize in Windows Update issues (and I guess it's an update of Windows we're talking - you were not accurate in your message) will be more than happy to help you with your problem. If you have the update name and KB number, it would help and you should include it in your message there.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!

After reinstalling vista and get the updates, I've "lost" more than 10 GB on my hard drive
can anyone help? After reinstalling vista and by then setting automatic updates, I find after the download and installation of updates that I "lost" more than 10 GB on my drive hard, why is that?
Updates must be stored somewhere, and installed somewhere 10 GIG is in the normal range. Did you do a disk cleanup?
have you saved or set a restore point? It has been a decade since I used Vista, but I think that any time you install something made Vista a restore point.

I copied the old file of passwords in the new profile, but do not see.
Got a new laptop. Copied the content from the old profile to new profile. Most of the old information are there (bookmarks), but I do not see the passwords. I repeated copying the two files key3db and logins.json specifically, but even the passwords saved on my old profile are not there...
Could you try again in a new profile and copy only the files logins.json and key3db?
Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problem.
See "create a profile":
- http://KB.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a profile already used in the new profile, but be careful not to copy files corrupted to avoid transporting more problems.

I just converted to Eudora paid 7 (after many years) to Thunderbird, due no problems of SSL certificate supported by Eudora.
So far, I like Thunderbird but tried to imitate the simplest UI for Eudora. In Thunderbird, my 6 profiles are listed, each with its own subfolders «Inbox, drafts, sent, Trash & Archives» There is a long list of menu on the left side of my screen.
Is there anyway that I can consolidate these profiles so that all incoming messages appear in an Inbox, regardless of the target profile. Similarly, can I consolidate the 'sent' and other subfolders?
Thanks for any help you can give.
Dave (Thunderbird newbie).
lets start terms.
A profile is something that keeps all your settings of Thunderbird. I think that your calling account profiles. but I could be wrong.
You have two options here.
First for POP e-mail accounts, you can use the global Inbox Menu Tools > account settings > server settings > advanced Note that makes the account disappear from the folders pane, so that the messages should be moved to the Inbox of the local folders first.
For IMAP accounts, there is the unified view of the folders view menu > folders > unified. IMAP accounts can simply not use a record combined due to the synchronization of messages with the server.
Be very sure of what type of account you set up. IMAP accounts for those who have not used their and aren't aware of the synchronization of emails can be a 'new game '.

Everytime I open Firefox I get the following message: it is strongly recommended that you apply this update as soon as possible. When I try to do, is to show that it is trying to connect to the update server but nothing happens
You are welcome
-
I put the file in the Profiles folder and deleted the default profile, but nothing happens and I can't find an instruction in the menus to change profiles, nor anything in the fact sheets help to explain how.
You must copy the file profiles.ini so or create a new profile and choose the imported profile as the location of this new profile make Firefox recognize and use it.
