Upgrade Ram on a HP PAVILION DV7

Salvation was curious what kind of ram was ok to upgrade with.

I tried to look at the site of suppport for this question but was unsuccessful. However if I missed it please tell me the correct link

My laptop is:

Description of the model: HP PAVILION DV7 - 6143CL

Model number: LW181UA

Running: Windows 7 64-bit

I visited this site: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02863115

If it does, this is the page of the plug for my laptop.

It is said that it takes DDR3 and up to a maximum of 16 GB.

However when I look at the DDR3 memory for laptops, I find plenty of options in terms of speed and latency cases.

Modules of memory DDR3 SO-DIMM will work?

Or a period of latency, speed and all will be better for my system than the others?

Thanks for all the help!

The upgrade is to go to the Web sites of memory well known manufacturers and see what they have to offer for your laptop. (Corsair, Crucial, Kingston and OCZ are a few well known memory andf respected manufacturers)

Do a Google search like I did to see what is available and find the market price. Once you know which specific modules are then you can contact the stores to see which ones they have.

https://www.google.com/search?q=HP+PAVILION+DV7-6143CL+upgrade+memory&oq=HP+PAVILION+DV7-6143CL+upgrade+memory&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i64.7781j0j4&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8#q=hp+pavilion+dv7+ram+upgrade&revid=171357479

Purchase memory modules only well-known state of manufactured products is guaranteed compatible memory for your laptop. If you don't like that then you are taking a gamble.

If you try to upgrade by looking at the specifications document, so you will probably find that the memory modules that you choose will disappoint you and cause your laptop to not start Windows.

"DDR3 SO-DIMM memory modules will work?" They must be specific and have been tested with your laptop. That's how important memory manufacturers are able to guarantee compatibility with the module.

I've had this laptop for over 5 years and I use it for games. I wonder if I will notice a difference in performance by simply upgrading the RAM, or if the processor speed, video card, etc., are or will be obsolete in the near future, and if I just save that money and put it to a new computer.

Crucial lists kit upgrade for a little under $ 200.

    Hello:

If the 2 x 4 GB memory DDR2 was $60,00 as if it was a few years ago, I would say go for it.

But now that it's $200 and more, I recommend that you put that money towards a new laptop or a model renovated better than what you have, with DDR3 memory.

You will probably notice some performance improvement, but not $200.

    I have a HP pavilion dv7 - 4153CL

It has 4 gig of ram and can go up to 8 GB. What I've read, it's a few times you can get 16 gig if your Bios is up to date. Is this true and if so how I updated the Bios so I can run more ram?

    Hello

Pass in review Page 3 in your product manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02642701.pdf

Your laptop supports only up to 8GB.

There is nothing that can be done in the BIOS of your laptop to increase size.

If you plan on overclocking in the BIOS - to increase the speed of the RAM, which can also be done in this laptop,

Most of the laptops available for daily use is not configured for this.

This is correct information and Crucial is a great brand of memory. Crucial memory is guaranteed compatible memory when you use their memory finder. Take advantage of the 16 GB.

Hi I need help, I plan on upgrading my Ram. My PC came with 2 GB of installed RAM (2 X 1 GB) and there are x 4 banks of memory. I ordered 2 x 1 GB RAM to go in 2 banks of memory left and they are the same specification as those already installed but I do not think that it the same manufacturing. Is how important it? or must all be from the same manufacturing? The type of RAM is 1 GB, 240-pin, DDR2 SDRAM, support PC-4200 MB/s speed. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit installed on my PC.

For optimal compatibility, memory modules should all be the same density (512 MB / 1 GB) and from the same manufacturer... Which assure the chips on the module are identical.  It is strongly recommended that you buy only the modules that are guaranteed compatible. Brands like Kingston, Crucial, OCZ and Corsair come with this guarantee. No name brands may or may not work with your PC. Go on line on the site of manufacturers of memory and know what part number is guaranteed to work with your PC. Corsair Kingston CrucialOCZ

  • Upgrade RAM on a HP Pavilion g6-2120sb

    Hello

I looked at the page of "specification" of HP:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03397333

for my laptop, but it is not clear how I can pass by default 6 GB of RAM 8 GB

Also, I searched this forum and website for g6-2120sb kingston memory but found nothing.

I would use the faster RAM supported by the motherboard, but do not know how high it goes? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

    David

You will need to remove the 2 GB memory module and replace it with a module that is identical to the 4 GB module in the other slot soDIMM. It would be simpler just to buy a pair of modules which are guaranteed compatible by your memory preferred provider or retailer.

    Maximum memory supported is 8GB.

  • Pavilion dv7: RAM

    Hello

What is the maxium size & speed of Ram my Intel HP Pavilion dv7-1262us can support?

    Any help is very appreciated.

    Thank you.

    You are the very welcome.

The chipset certainly supports up to 8 GB (2 x 4 GB), but the BIOS can not.

I have a HP Elite notebook with the same chipset Mobile Intel 45 6930p and I run 2 x 4 GB of PC2-6400 in mine.

But I have no idea if you can get away with that on your consumer class specifications when the manual does not indicate 8 GB.

The service manual for my phone say it can take 2 x 4 GB memory PC2 6400.

$100 dollars for every 4 GB PC2 - 6400 stick noise, it's much too much money to risk on a bet.

  • HP Pavilion dv7 3150eq Upgrade of RAM

    Hello

I intend to upgrade the memory of my machine, but I can't seem to find the manufacturer and the speed of the current. I would like to buy exactly the same.

My laptop is HP Pavilion DV7 Entertainment PC 3150eq, currently, it has 4 GB and supports up to 8. Looked the specifications, but the only information it has 4 GB of DD3 RAM and the motherboard supports up to 8 GB of RAM. It does not say how many slots is 2, 4, etc.

Anyone know who is the manufacturer and the speed of the RAM memory installed on the laptop model? And if not to much to ask, how many slots memory is on the motherboard?

    Thank you

    I. Hinov

    Hello

Normally, each laptop has 2 slots for RAM. You can use the following information:

    Memory type: DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-8500, DDR3 (non - ECC)
    Maximum memory: 8 GB - Slots: 2
Each slot of memory can hold DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-8500 with a maximum of 4 GB per slot.

  • Pavilion dv7-6b76eo: upgrade of RAM HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo

I created a thread really well here and received great help from @Paul_Tikkanen so if he or someone else could help me, that would be great. Don't know why I can't post a reply in this thread again. They either closed the thread or I'm blind. In any case, I have the HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo and plan an upgrade of RAM. Currently I have samsung 2 x 4 Go PC3-10600 / DDR3-1333.

    1. I think go to ddr4, but what keeps me is some threads I have read saying ddr4 won't even in good physical shape in a ddr3 slot (which is my current) as well as this piece of info from Wikipedia:

DDR4 SO-DIMM have 260 pines (instead of 204 pin DDR3), which are evenly spaced more close (0.5, rather than 0.6 mm) and are 2.0 mm wider (69.6 against 67.6 mm), but still the same 30 mm in height.

    Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR4_SDRAM

    • 204-pin SO-DIMM (DDR3) have a single notch closest in the center than at 200-pin SO-DIMM.
    • 260-pin SO-DIMM (DDR4), 69.6 mm (2,74 in.) wide and 30 mm (1.2 inches) in height, making it wider than the DDR3 SO-DIMM, with one notch after pin 2 mm 144 (0,079 in.).

    Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SO-DIMM

This means that a chip of RAM SODIMM ddr4 wouldn't even in good physical shape in the slot of my laptop?

    2. well, okay... If I have to make my peace with her and stay with DDR3 can I at LEAST faster DDR3 install i.e. PC3-17000 / DDR3-2133 because my current a PC3-10600 / DDR3-1333 is sorta slow sometimes?

Thanks in advance and would really appreciate an answer to the question 1 and 2 above!

    @nematsvehclav

    I couldn't say with certainty.

But I have yet to see a 16 GB memory for a laptop card. "Yet."
