upgrade required Fusion 1.1 to 2.0.5 lost initial virtual machine environment and Windows data... no help on a recovery?

Thank you for taking the time to read.

My brand new MacBook Pro came pre-installed with VMWARE Fusion intentionally, so I could run a Windows XP environment to migrate from the 10 years of content from Outlook to Entourage. Everything worked very well when one day, VMWARE said that I had to upgrade. I did and have not been able to run a Windows environment since. My Outlook and Windows configuration data is not available and I have 4 attempts to vmwarevm. When I try to load the original VM, I get an error/warning message: "this virtual machine is obsolete." It's the guest who has begun the process of upgrading to 2.0.5.

I need access to my first setup of Microsoft Office and Outlook. no indication on how to access my previous data would be great.

Thanks for any help at all!

Kind regards

Jeff

The error"The VMware Tools resume script did not run successfully in this virtual machine. "is the crux of the problem here...

I could try to delete the files from the virtual .vmss machine and see if you can connect.

Right-click on the Virtual Machine window computer virtual library > show in Finder

Make a right click the .vmwarevm bundle > Show Package Contents

In this window, trash all .vmss files, and then try and turn on the Virtual Machine.

Note that this is the same as pulling the plug on a physical pc stuck/frozen.

Let us know if this helps =)

  • Can I upgrade to Windows 7 and keep Vista in a virtual machine environment or a dual boot?

I use Vista Home Premium and I want to upgrade to windows 7. I love Vista and do not want to abandon it. After the upgrade I can install Vista (same drive, same NR) in a virtual machine in tha same computer.

N ° if this Vista product key has been used to make the upgrade to Windows7, she is technically still in use and can not be installed on any computer (or even the same machine in VM).  You must either complete a version of installation of Window7 - and you must change the product key or do a clean install (so it no longer an upgrade that will release the Vista product) or you need a copy of the complete installation of Vista with its own product key.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it's like that.

  • Update Manager upgrade of the ESXi host that he is running in a virtual machine does

That is the question.  Here is some information.  We were a completely virtualized environment for several years.  2 guests ESXi collocated 5.5 to different data centers connected of course by a VPN site-to site.  The VPN itself is provided by VMs and vCenter runs in a VM to one of the sites as Update Manager is to proceed with installing it. If the vCenter and/or VPN VMs are down, we have a very cool backup method to gain access to and manage ESXi and its console.   Some of you who read the rest of the present will be tempted to suggest to architecting our environment differently, but we are very pleased with the way it is thank you very much :-)  Appreciate all the answers but really just responded to this specific question.

The reason why we want to Update Manager is really just to be able to upgrade easily ESXi in the future without enter in the console and the execution of orders, etc.  I realize the documentation and blogs on this topic that ESXi may need to go into maintenance mode and stop the virtual machines running on it (not a cluster if no migration) how ESXi is lose connection to the Update Manager (if the remote host) or a stop Update Manager (if the local host).  So the question is, is that the process of updating managed by Update Manager an atomic operation at that crucial moment or a sequence of operations depend on continuous connectivity and control of Update Manager.  Ddoes ESXi, then perform the upgrade and restart regardless - that would be great - or he'll just stand there in maintenance mode to learn more about disconnected now / stop Manager update pending.

    Your answers are greatly appreciated.

Please, tell me if I understand you:

Ask yourself if you can upgrade the host running Update Manager VM? And you cannot migrate the virtual to another host machine because there is no cluster in place and no shared storage?

If your answer is YES to both questions, I can tell you that you cannot use Update Manager, since you must put your host in Maintenance Mode and therefore you will need to stop all virtual machines running, including the VM Manager Update.

I just bought one of these for my daughter for Christmas.

I read that memory is low. It has 32 GB.

First of all what is the best easiest way to upgrade memory (micro sd card)? If so can what bits of information I keep on it?

    Then I upgraded to windows 10. Is a 32-bit or 64-bit system.

    Someone had problems with him?

Finally of office would what version you recommend.

Above is Windows 7 but Windows 10 still works the same. Move the files to the SD card, together is the default download location for the browser, etc.

Ask in terms of memory, but you mean that storage. The RAM (sharp) of 2 GB is not extensible. It is an Atom processor but the next generation and it is 64-bit. The Windows installed 10 will be a version 10 of Windows 64-bit edition, not some watered down Michael tablet thing. It can run Office 2016 and if she is a student of her school could have an agreement on this subject, or you can look in the student Office 365, version which is I think that $6 per month or $80 all the in.

  • Require a process step by step for the migration of virtual machines to new VMware ESX hypervisor

    Hello

I'm looking for the method step by step for the migration of virtual machines to new host ESX Migration both cold and hot.

Scenario - I have two data centers running ESX host stand-alone (with VM) in Europe. I need to build the new ESX host in new Dataceter to Singapore.

Need prerequisites, the methods available for migrate VMWARE virtual has new host ESX (in the new data center) with minimum downtime.

It will be great if you can enumerate the markets or redirect me to documentation that I can use to create detailed steps as the target host compatibility check on VMs and so on.

    Please advice

    Concerning

    AVI

The steps are correct. The virtual machine must be turned off (step 3).

  • Host CPU is not compatible with the requirements of the virtual machine in the level 0 CPUI register x 1 'ecx '.

I have a cluster of three ESX servers.  They are IBM 3650 and they are the exact same material bought at the same time.  They even the same exact versions of the firmware (bios, bmc, nic firmware, HBAs, raid, HDD firmware, rsa, etc.).  I started their reclassification of ESX 3.5u3 to ESX4 with all the latest patches.  Then I updated one moved some top vm and upgraded vmware tools and virtual materials without problem.  So, I went and upgraded the following ESX Server and has started moving the machines on that one and upgraded vmware tools and virtual hardware.  I tested the functionality of the ESX servers and they seem to work fine.  I vmotioned machine version 4 hardware virtual machine between the two developed level ESX host very well so I me with the upgrade process.  Then I had to vmotion, one of the virtual machines updated (version 7 of material) between the two ESX hosts newly improved and they won't vmotion.  It gives me the error CPU host is not compatible with the requirements of the judgment of the VM to CPUID level register 0 x 1 'ecx '.  The full error message is in the attachment.

Apparently, the virtual machine hardware upgrade exposed a few additional things virtual machine that prevents vmotion to work.  I don't know what and I'm quite surprised because these machines are identical identical hardware and firmware.

    All of the suggestions.

  • Windows XP mode virtual machine does not start after the upgrade to Windows 10

    Hello

After the upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for Windows 10 Pro, my virtual Windows XP machine (which was created from the "XP" mode in Windows 7) no longer starts.

    It shows:

This system is not allowed to run "Windows XP Mode". Now, the virtual machine will be turned off.

How can I activate the Windows XP Mode in Windows 10 Pro? I mean, I have not lost my right to run Windows XP Mode, just because I've upgraded to Windows 10, right?

    Hello

How can I activate the Windows XP Mode in Windows 10 Pro? I mean, I have not lost my right to run Windows XP Mode, just because I've upgraded to Windows 10, right?

I fear that the statement is pretty much on the mark.

Microsoft caught only supported XP Mode in Windows 7, it has been since Windows 8.

You might be able to extract the folder integer vhd it and import it in VMware Workstation as a separate virtual machine. In the end, 'XP Mode' just was running a virtual machine in your Windows 7 after all.

  • VMware Fusion and confidential data

    Hello!

    Apologize for my poor English.

I would like to create an encrypted virtual machine that will be dedicated for processing confidential data on an external hard drive. Therefore, no data should be written to the internal hard drive for security reasons.

VMware Fusion locally stores all data (temporary log file, cache,) related software that is running on the virtual machine? Or other data like pictures of the screen, the data at the network level?

Hope my question is clear enough

Thanks in advance for your answers

    Hi Dasaly

No VMware Fusion writes all the data pertaining to your VM off the virtual machine folder.

All data is located in the folder of the virtual machine, things like caching of thumbnails, swap, is by default located in the virtual machine folder.

VMware Fusion also offers the possibility to encrypt the virtual machine under settings, other-> restrictions and encryption of the Virtual Machine.

The only part I'm not sure without research is if drag of OSX is encrypted or not.

  • URGENT! After installing 6 Fusion and creation of new virtual machine with Windows 7, I get a message "VMware Fusion cannot enter the unit". WHAT SHOULD DO?

After purchase, installation and activation Fusion 6 with the license key, I had a library of VMS showing 2 Boot Camp partitions. It's strange that I only have 1.
I tried to activate them but received a message that it is out of date in 2 cases. (see annex 1)

I started a new virtual machine with a Windows 7 installation disc directly on my HD. I have provided a way to do this and followed the instructions of Fusion to the screen.

Apparently, everything went well and after several restarts, the installation appears to be over (see annex 2) I tried to open and run the installed Windows 7. I had however a window with the following message:

    "Pending the unit.

"VMware Fusion cannot enter the unit. Please wait until the unit starts automatically, or interact with the virtual machine below. ' (see annex 3)

Here Windows 7 seems to start but after a while with the home screen and of the Øresund finishing this window closed and open a new window called library Virtual Machine on the left showing the partitions of Bootcamp and the Virtual Machine Windows 7 x 64 and in the middle gray a representation of what is supposed to be the Windows 7 desktop. (see Exhibit 4). When I opened the settings button a window with different setting options pops up. This mark means to me that Windows is installed but the final opening isn't the case

When you quit Vmware Fusion indeed Windows seems to be close (see part 5)

What is going on? What has gone wrong? What should I do? I don't know how to solve the problem.

I should f.i. remove the virtual machine from Windows 7 and is free automatically made partition on my HD as the reboot with the Windows installation disc? or y at - it another way to enter the UNIT?

    Help, please!

    Thanks in advance

Your virtual machine is running. It is in the unit - which each windows gets its own window of Mac - and you have no application Windows running, there is no visible windows. You can start a Windows application in the start of Fusion menu in the menu bar at the top right, or turn on the Windows task bar on the view menu and start applications from there. Or use the view menu to switch to the Single mode or full-screen, which puts all of your Windows desktop in a window separate from Mac.

You do not have two partitions to Boot Camp on your Mac, you have two virtual machines named "Boot Camp partition".

The message about it being unable to enter the unit arrives while the merger is pending for the tools begin to run, because the tool is necessary for the unit.

  • Library of Virtual Machine in fusion 2.0.5 is adding false entries

    Hello:

I'm under Fusion 2.0.5 on a Mac Pro using another (dedicated) disc for my partition Bootcamp taking into my Windows 7 disc.  A few times when I start VMware Fusion library Virtual Machine adds a second 'fake' entry labeled as Partition Boot Camp for a XP Pro.  I didn't create it and all the right click menu choices are available except "Delete" when I tried to start it (false entry) to see what will happen, it is clear that it is not fully implemented yet because the VMware Mac OS ask me my password perform additional processing to implement the system VM on my Boot Camp Partition.  I do not give my password software and the implementation of treatment plants.

In addition to my first entry (unique, original, real) in the library Virtual Machine is a Vista x 64 edition that points to my Boot Camp (on a dedicated disk) partition with my Windows 7 system. When I right click on my (the) real library Virtual Machine 'Start up invited' and 'Settings' are grayed out.  Now, I have to go to the Bar Menu of Mac OS to boot my VMware system on the window-"& gt; The Boot Camp partition option".

    Any thoughts why:

    (1) VMware Fusion 2.0.5 is adding unwanted entries / fake Virtual Machine library?

    (2) how to remove false entries (delete is gray)?

    (3) how to retrieve entries from the right click menu 'greyed - out' on my real library of Virtual Machine entry for my Bootcamp Partition based Windows 7 system?

  • Considering the upgrade to Fusion Version 3.1.3 (416484), OS x 10.6.8.  Advice?

I bought a MacBook Air in 2011, with the latest version of the Fusion.  I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and have never had any problems with it.  Lately, some new apps do not work on the BONE, so I am considering the upgrade to Yosemite or El Capitan.  I am concerned to make my system unstable, and some of the things I read on the blogs on El Capitan and Version 8.0 do not increase my confidence.

I OS X 10.6.8 and Fusion 3.1.3.  The MacBook Air is the Intel Core Duo 2.13 GhZ processor and 4 GB of RAM.  Can anyone give me some advice regarding the stability of the various upgrades of version for the OS and the merger?  In addition, there are issues related to upgrading the version of merge with Windows 7?  TIA

You need to upgrade the host operating system - Apple to not support 10.6.8 more, so you are exposed on the net.

The biggest challenge that you have is that all the new OS versions (i.e. support) really want 8 GB in the machine for a solid performance, so unfortunately, it is a simple minimum configuration for a modern machine.  but because of security issues, an upgrade is always a good idea. You might as well go to 10.11 - the system requirements are the same as 10.9 and 10.10, and there a lot of stability and security bugs.   To make it work OK with 4 GB on that CPU, you'll want to close all other applications before you start merging and stop melting when you use do not.

Here is the order of the steps, I suggest you:

    (1) make a full clone of the system to an external drive.  Time Machine is not enough, both because on this corruption operating systems silent vintage can slip, and Time Machine is not reliable for the backup of virtual machines at all.  I recommend Carbon Copy Cloner, of www.bombich.com.  Mike is a great guy, and that the software has saved my bacon many countless times.

    (2) stop - no suspend - all your virtual machines.  Delete snapshots, you might (I'm not sure if had Fusion 3 snapshots, but if she did, removed at 100%).

IMPORTANT: If you use the former FileVault 1 (which is what came with 10.6.8), you MUST disable it before upgrading.  Check system preferences/security/filevault.  If it was turned on, make another clone after deactivation.

    3) upgrade your host operating system.  That will turn off a lot of your software (including Fusion), as incompatible.

    (4) upgrade of all other software including Fusion to the current version.

    (5) start the virtual computer and upgrade the virtual hardware and VMWare tools when you are prompted.

    (6) make sure that the virtual machine has only 1 GB of RAM and 1 core assigned to it if you can.

  • 7 - fusion '3D Acceleration requires an update of the VMware tools in the Virtual Machine'

    Hello

I installed the free Fusion 7 trial this week on my iMac and subsequently installed Windows 8.

The resolution of the screen under Windows is very low compared to the Mac OS.

In addition, I have the warning message in the Windows display settings:

'3D acceleration requires an update of the VMware tools in the Virtual Machine'

I also note that the display driver in Windows is the display driver database with Microsoft.

A few weeks ago I installed version 6 of Fusion and it worked very well.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    John.

Take a look at the installation and the use of the VMware tools and more spicifically to manually install or upgrade VMware Tools in a Windows Virtual Machine.

If by chance, VMware Fusion is not properly mounting image VMware Tools windows.iso file then you have to do it manually.  It is located in "/ Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Library/isoimages/windows.iso" and will have to be copied, not moved, in a location that is accessible out of the bundle of VMware Fusion.app as the office.  If you need to do this, you can right click on the bundle of VMware Fusion.app see the content of the selection box and access its location to copy.  To assign the windows.iso on the CD/DVD image, take a look at: Connect and Set Up a CD/DVD Drive

The keyboard is configured in Italian

All the world has noticed the same problem?

    Have you solved?

    Thanks in advance.

The problem has been resolved by the technical support of vmware with a workaround. They know that the question on the keys is interchangeable in the VM after upgrade to Fusion 7.

Their development team is currently working on this issue on the priority. This will be fixed in the next update.

However, they have a work around for the problem of keyboard. Following the instructions below to map the key manually in VMware Fusion.

: Note make a note of the interchangeable keys in Windows before you enable the mapping of the keys.

    1. click on VMware Fusion-> preferences-> keyboard & mouse-> mappings of keys

    2. make sure that 'Enable key mappings' is enabled

    3. click on '+' sign at the bottom

    4. press the key that you want to send from the text box Mac keyboard

    5. press the key you want to receive on the VM in text box

Note: You can also use the combination of change, control, Option, command if necessary.
