Upgrade SSD for Portege Z930

Hello

Any who tried to Z930 SSD update?
You are looking for information, they seem to use interface mSATA - mini PCI-E as conectors.

No specific information on the drive inside?

I intend to bring this beauty on the machine:
http://www.NotebookReview.com/default.asp?NewsID=6509

Thank you

The mSATA connector resembles the miniPCI connector, but they are totally different.
So, your only solution is to replace the HARD drive with a 2.5 "SATA SSD.

  • Upgrade SSD for Dell XPS 15 9550

    Hello

I have Dell XPS 9550 with configuration 32 GB SSD + 500 GB HARD disk. I want to upgrade SSD for more space avaliablity.

But I don't know what type of SSD, I'll need to buy. Also, I read XPS 15 to repair. There are two chapter for the removal and replacement of the SSD in the maintenance manual. First chapter of half-length SSD, second chapter SSD full length.

What type of SSD is mounted in my laptop? Half or full length?

How can I identify necessary SSD for me in stores (dimensions, label, etc.)?

What interface for SSD do I need?  PCIE or SATA?

What is the map? M2.2280 or PCI-E AIC (-expansion card)?

    Thanks in advance!

These are all numbers of Dell and descriptions.

The system uses a PCIe (or is if you want a faster player), 2280 m2 or small size.  UNLESS you buy directly from Dell, it is best NOT to buy versions OEM of SSD (Samsung end pieces in a '1' vs '0' for details).

OEM spare parts are usually not compatible to end-users by the manufacturer.

Because you will probably install the operating system for the new SSD, don't forget to make a recovery media set, you need to load the operating system on the larger capacity disk - what you have now is just a cache for the main hard drive.

  • Upgrade of RAM for Portege Z930 recommended

    Hi all
I would like to know what is recommended by Toshiba memory to upgrade the RAM to the maximum amount.
    I am owner of a Portege Z930 16 M part number PT234E-08P05SIT.

If I undestood weel, it takes 4 GB of DDR3 memory to get the maximum of 6 GB (2 to edge + 4), right?

    What manufacturer recommends Toshiba?

    Thank you
    Enrico

Compatible 4 GB of RAM has PA5037U-1M4G part number.
    Check it out.

  • Adding additional partition D for Portege Z930 with that 256SSD

I just got a new portege Z930 i7 with 256 ssd and Win7 pro 64. It starts with 4 partitions already installed.1.46Gb recovery, 217 GB C, 8 GB hibernation and a 11.9 primary with the only option to remove.

I can shrink the C drive to 110 GB offering 110 GB unallocated. But if I try to format the unallocated space it tells me that this will change to dynamic disks and there is not enough space.
I have a D drive for the data. How to do this?

    Hello

I recommend to use the 3rd party software called * Gparted.*
It of based on the system Linux and you could create bootable USB flash memory stick containing Gparted tool.

It is great for partition management.

  • Maximum memory for Portege Z930 - 14L

    Hello

I have a Portege Z930 - 14L with 8 GB memory and wonder what is the maximum memory I can add? I saw the following in the description, but I don't understand if this means that the maximum is 12 GB (4 GB onboard + 8 GB expansion) or 16 GB (2x8GB)

    Standard system memory: 8 192 (4 069 + 4 069 onboard) MB
    maximum extension: 8 192 MB
    technology: DDR3 RAM (1,600 MHz)

    Thank you
    Markus

If I understand this right info your a Portege already maximum RAM.
Is that your laptop Portege can manage with 8 GB memory max. On board, there are already 4 GB and there is only one slot of RAM available for upgrade that also contains a 4 GB RAM module.
In other words, your laptop is already maximum RAM and upgrade is not possible.

You can use an external USB CD/DVD drive to boot from disks to win 8.

Or you try to install the 8 Win using a flash USB memory sik.
But in order to install the memory flash USB one Win 8 Win 8 ISO (image) files is necessary.
In addition, you will need to create a bootable USB. You can do this by using the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool

  • Motherboard for Portege Z930 B113 must send to the Brazil

Hey, * I live in the Brazil and bought a laptop Portege Z930-B113 in Dubai on a trip.
The same evil work and burned its motherboard, and now his need for a new.

As here in the Brazil is not supported and toshiba do not sell parts for this ultrabook,
Could someone send me an email or a store to buy this motherboard, with an international expedition to the site?

If you need to request more information.

    Thank you.

Portege Z930-B113 belongs to the PT234V series.
I guess that this series was not available in North or South America.

But the PT234U of Z935-P390 similar to Toshiba Portege is out on the American market.
It should support the same motherboard, so I guess you could get the motherboard for Portege Z935-P390 to the Brazil that should be compatible with your Z930 B113 Portégé

  • Upgrade SSD for a Tecra R840-16J

    Hello world

This is my first post here!
I am Portuguese and I bought a R840-16J two months ago. I chose this model because it had all the specs I wanted (I run Toshiba laptops since 1997... and my first still works!) except one: he had not an SSD. Given that I could not custom make my laptop that I bought it with a 500 GB HDD at 7200 RPM,.
The upgrade only I could do (and I did) was to install an extra 4 GB RAM module.

I would like to install an SSD now (with the same capacity,...).

    My questions:

    1. don't recommend me a special brand/model?
2 - What are the steps that I need to have a correct installation?
    3. I installed a lot of sw that I need (office, PS and many astronomy specific sw I use). Do I have to re - install all these or is it a solution to 'clone' my HARD drive SSD?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated :-).

    Kind regards
    Paulo

    > 1-do you recommend me a special brand/model?

I would not recommend a specific model or manufacturer, I think that it s always a question of value for money. I recommend you get some reading and assessment tests some SSD drive test on tech Web sites.
You can choose the best SSD drive for you I mean it didn't need to be the best and expensive

    > 2 - what steps I have to do a correct installation?

It is the same procedure as the HARD drive upgrade.
Check this nice HowTo from Toshiba:
Tecra R840 & Satellite R840 HARD drive replacement procedure
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/CRU19037K0000R01.htm

    > 3 - I installed a lot of sw that I need (office, PS and many astronomy specific sw I use). Do I have to re - install all these or is it a solution to 'clone' my HARD drive SSD?

You can install everything again on new SSD drive or you will create an image:
You can use an option included in Windows 7:
Click Start at the start and then select back up your files.
Then click on create a system image hyperlink.
Now you can choose where you want to save the image. You can choose an external HARD disk, burn it on several DVD s, or store it on a network location.
When you want to restore the image, you will be able to use the System Recovery Options to recover the system. For a recovery of the system option, you must start the Win 7 F8 press should choose fix my computer. You will find in this window option called: system image recovery

  • Upgrade SSD for Macbook Pro?

I have a Macbook Pro (early 2011) and I would like my mac by installing a SSD 15'. He got a 2 GHz Intel Core i7 processor. My laptop started to slow down a lot and it lags when I use photoshop or when I'm editing videos, so I thought I should spend my hard drive for an SSD. But I don't really know what SSD to buy it. My friend recommended the Kingston SSD UV400, but I read that some people have complications after installing the SSD on their Macs. I really don't know much about these things, I'm looking for insight. Someone at - it recommendations for SSDS, I should get? I'm looking at a minimum of 480 GB for storage and, ideally, something lasting!

    Thank you very much!

Currently, the best options are the OCZ ARC-100 series, the 850 series of Samsung (good price on Amazon) and 6G OWCseries. OWC also has tool boxes if you need it and installation tutorials. If you want to keep the HARD drive then you buy one of their media DataDoubler to put the old HDD in the space occupied by the optical drive. It can even include an enclosure for the optical drive.

How to use an SSD with your HARD drive

If you want to use an SSD as boot with your existing HARD disk drive, as the disk 'data', here is what you can do.

After installing the SSD, you need to partition and format the SSD using disc utility disc. Then install OS X on the SSD. Once installed OSX boot from SSD. Startup disk preferences to set up the SSD as the boot volume.

Open the preferences users and groups. Click the lock and authenticate you. Or CTRL - RIGHT click on your username account list in the sidebar and select Advanced Options in the context menu. You will see a field called "Home dir: ' on the far right, you will see an Edit button. Click on it. In the file dialog box, navigate to the location in house now located on the HARD disk (disk HARD/users/user_name /.) Select the folder, click the Open button. Restart the computer, as shown. When the computer starts, it will now use the home located on the HARD drive folder.

Another more technical method involving the Terminal and the alias is discussed in depth here: using OS X with a SSD and HDD - Matt Gemmell configuration. It's my preferred approach because I can choose which records of the House, I want to on the HARD drive and I don't want to. For example, I like to keep Documents and library files on the SSD because I frequently access their content.

Make sure that you keep the bootable system entirely on your HARD drive where you need it.

  • Upgrade SSD for Satellite Pro A120

    Hello
I have a satellite pro A120, which feels a little tired. I did research SSD upgrades to replace the HARD drive, but I don't know if I can update or not. I would really appreciate any advice or information you can give me.

    Thank you

    Hello

You can upgrade the laptop with an SSD. You need a disc SSD SATA 2.5 as the A120 supports the SATA controller.
Not quite sure about the SSD size but I guess a 250 GB should be recognized correctly.

  • Are adapters CA / CC for Portege Z930 and Kira-701 compatible?

    Hello friends,

My boss has a Toshiba Z-930 ultra-livre and power adapters about 10 - 12 for him around the world in his various homes and offices.

He now plans on changing his computer. The same power adapters will work on the laptop Toshiba KIRA-701 or not? I tried to look to the top of the internet, but could not find any confirmation.

If the 701 Kira is not compatible with the old charger so must be changed every 10-12 power adapters.

Can someone help me with this information? The power adapters are not compatible so I might as well consider other brands, so I would have to change anyway all the power adapters.

    Thank you in advance.

    Umair

Sorry, but I must ask you this question: do you want to buy new notebook without adaptors CA / CC and the use of old adapters CA / CC with the new machines?
Sorry, but it makes no sense to me.
Even if you want to exchange machine you, what you want to do with Z930 machines without adaptors CA / CC? It does not seem logical to me.

In any case, I found the info that both models have adapters sector with the same output voltage: output current V. 19: 2.37 A so I think that both machines use the same adapter.

I hope someone who own that Kira 701 can confirm this.
