Upgrade SSD in Satellite L30

Hi all

If anyone can help with this please, I have a Toshiba L30 I got a 64 GB of ssd sandisk drive and put it in my laptop but when I try to install windows 7 I get a message there is no hard drive to install to. So I thought that the problem BIOS but when I go into the BIOS, I see the drive listed.

Any ideas please.
Concerning
Booyakka

The L30 is very old notebook.
Even if the SSD drive is listed in the BIOS, it could still be a compatibility problem.

L30 supports the SATA controller, but AFAIK the SATA is already part of Windows system driver so it should not be necessary to install the additional SATA driver.

I think you should check the page of manufacturing of SSD drive support and must search for firmware update sometimes to do a firmware update.

  • For the Archives: The upgrade of the Satellite L30-134

I'm one of those old cell phones off a friend who had retired as being obsolete.

However with a little time and money, it is possible to upgrade to a very usable machine.

Not a power by any stretch but perfectly adequate for browsing the internet and watching videos (about 720 p watchable) standard definition etc.

So as the search of these forums for more information for this project, I found a lot of conflicting advice, and some of my questions were not answered at all. I hope by documenting my experiences here I can help someone in the same position in the future.

    * Model *.

This machine is the Toshiba Satellite L30-134, part number: PSL33E-00E013G3. It's probably very similar, but not necessarily the same as the other models L30. No invert them.

    * Original configuration *.

Processor - Intel Celeron m 410 (Cache of 1 MB, 1.46 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, Socket M). It is a simple version of the Core Duo (Yonah core) processor core. It shares nothing in common and is not swapable with the previous generation Pentium M or processors Celeron Mr. He is also incompatible with the next generation of Core 2 Duo/Solo and Pentium and Celeron processors derived from these.

Memory - A single 512MB SODIMM PC2 - 4200 (DDR2-533 MHz). This differs from the previous generation of DDR and the next generation of DDR3. The controller memory only supports single channel mode. There is no loss that the FSB of the processor is not fast enough to take advantage of the dual channel anyway.

    * BIOS *.

My laptop came with very old version 1.3. Toshiba provides the latest version (3.10) for download. This is reported to be buggy and mess with the profiles of fan so I decided to leave it alone. I can confirm that my updates work without updating the BIOS.

    * Updates *.

Processor - I swapped the Celeron for a Core Duo T2350 (1.87 GHz). Everything I read that all the Yonah core Core Duo/solo, Pentium and Celeron with a FSB of 533 are compatible. The FSB 667 models are not.

The Core Duo T2450 at 2 GHz is the highest performing compatible processor but double the price on eBay. I paid just £12 (used) for the T2350 so there is really no reason to go down now, all of these parts are obsolete.

RAM - there are 2 slots on this machine. Toshiba State a maximum of 2 GB, 1 GB in each slot. Unfortunately, the memory controller is very picky and survey of the weird errors, unless you get just the right ones.

There is not enough information to understand it so for me it was a process of trial and error. Fortunately, I found an online retailer that guaranteed compatibility in 100% and returned by mail for free.

The second pair of Poles worked well.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Opportunities to upgrade HDD for Satellite L30-113

I hope someone can help me on this one. I was wondering what are the possibilities for the upgrade of the disk on a Satellite L30-113. As the largest size of support etc. Or even if it's possible (I don't know much when it comes to upgrading laptops).

If it is possible to upgrade to a larger size HARD drive what should be and what would be the process to upgrade as well as if there is a limit on the maximum size, etc.?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Each laptop BIOS supports a HARD drive size limitation and therefore, you can only use a HARD drive formats supported.

I used the L30 for a long time and to my knowledge, you could use the 40 GB, 60 GB and 80 GB hard drives for sure. Perhaps that the 100 GB HARD drive might work but I m not 100% sure and can not recommend this size of HARD drive.

However, these hard drives must be compatible:
    Toshiba 40 GB - MK4032GSX
    60 GB - MK6034GSX
    80GB - MK8032GSX

  • Upgrade CPU on Satellite L30-101

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L30-101. I upgraded the RAM to 2 GB (2 x 1 GB) successfully, but I find it incredibly difficult to get information on the replacement of the processor.

The laptop has the latest version of the BIOS on it (3.10 - WIN - 02/19/08), but trying to find information on whats inside I'm hitting brick walls. First of all the site > http://www.toshiba-tro.de/biosinfo/< doesn't="" have="" my="" laptop="" on="" it,="">
    Product type: notebook
    Family: Satellite
    Product series: Satellite L series
    Model:? unknown
    Short model No.:? unknown

I hope I could paste in but with the ATI chipset Intel Duo, I'm sure that it won't work but once again without knowing what in the BIOS, compatible... I got lost. Single processor I can find who can work, same package, FSB, socket is an Intel Core Solo T1350 of processor which begins at 1.86 GHz, not a huge difference, and I don't know that it cannot be the only option of replacement.

Could someone and please help me to get the hands on info from BIOS and compatible processors for my laptop. The current Intel Celeron M Processor 410 deporting the 1.46 GHz is not good enough for Vista (cert on laptop) and basic multi-task. His way of late too even after a good tune up, ram, HD 7200 rpm upgrade. I need an upgrade of the processor, but as mentioned it is incredibly difficult to get the information which would be compatible.

    Sincerely,

    Gourcuff

    Hello

In my opinion, your attempt to replace the CPU is false. Why? Satellite L30 is not designed to offer performance and it is designed for everyday use. Best evidence was the price. It wasn't so expensive.

Can you please tell us why do you have new CPU? Do you use special software?

Return to the replacement of the CPU. As you probably know laptops have limited upgrade options and it is related to the RAM and disk HARD upgrade. It's definitely not for CPU upgrade and it is not supported. Specific design, especially of the cooling system is designed for certain CPU.
Because of this, you will not be able to find relevant info on replacement of the CPU.

Check it please this Toshiba document - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

  • Upgrade memory for Satellite L30-134

I have a Satellite L30-134, which seems to work pretty slowly - I think that due to the large amount of photos and music from itunes.

I wonder which is the best way to solve - buy a memory upgrade (no idea how to change memory well) or get an external hard drive?
And if I change the memory I'll lose what is already saved on the laptop?

I agree with Ganz most HARD drive will not improve performance but increase the disk space available HARD, it would be you can store more music and picture on HARD drive ;) files

Upgrade memory also would not provide a performance gain of course performance could be a little better because most of the things would be handled directly in memory and not in time on the HARD drive, but generally it s not really noticeable.

In any case if you want to improve memory, check this:

    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=25737&ft=m&St=3

    You must use DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM

  • Upgrading processor on Satellite L30

Can I replace my Intel celeron with a complete Intel pentium processor for my laptop Satellite L30-105? As it is so slow I got it since February 2007, more than half of my HDD disappeared too?

You can use CPU Pentium M, the difference between Celeron M and Pentium M is the size of the cache and Celeron M uses SpeedStep technology, but the FSB and the socket are the same.

  • Upgrade memory on Satellite L30

    I have a Satellite L30 - 11 d and I am wanting to update the modules of memory in it, I found it;

    Part number: PA3411S-2M1G
    1024 MB (1 GB) memory PC2 - 4300 DDR2 (533 MHz)

and it will work, but im not sure - you can have more than one connected to my laptop?

    Help, please!

Of course, you can do more then a memory module. On your laptop satellite, there are two slots available, and you can put two memory modules. Your laptop can handle with 2 GB RAM max.

According to the specifications of the laptop, you should have now 512 MB of RAM. New 1 GB module set up where is now placed module of 512 MB and put old in empty slot.

If you need further assistance please write again.

    Hello!

My laptop is Satellite L30-134 (PSL33E-00E00WRU).

I want to use RAM DDR2 800 Mhz 2 x 1 Gb in there. Is this possible?

On the motherboard FSB speed is 533 MHz so I advise you to use compatible RAM modules.
I don't know why you want to use these Rams from 800 MHz. For more performance or what?

    Thanks for the help!

    Robert

    Hello

    I see you're confused
First, he must know that the laptop supports the SATA controller.
This means that you must use hard drives SATA or SATA SSD.

Second: AHCI means SATA some BIOS supports only a SATA mode, and you can switch between compatible (IDE) mode and AHCI (SATA) mode.

If this switch is not available in the BIOS mode is always set to AHCI.

    However, to SSD drive question:
I put t really no problem using an SSD.
It must function as the SATA controller support

I have a satellite pro A120, which feels a little tired. I did research SSD upgrades to replace the HARD drive, but I don't know if I can update or not. I would really appreciate any advice or information you can give me.

    Thank you

    Hello

You can upgrade the laptop with an SSD. You need a disc SSD SATA 2.5 as the A120 supports the SATA controller.
Not quite sure about the SSD size but I guess a 250 GB should be recognized correctly.

  • Upgrading RAM in Satellite L30-105

    Hello

I need to update my RAM that Vista is slow _painfully_ in standard. My machine is supposed to have 1 GB of RAM but Windows System info and my BIOS show 894MB?
This does not coincide with the 2 x 512 listed as my hardware... I'm confused!

Can you recommend a 2 GB upgrade provider that supports DDR2 (533 mhz)? Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of before upgrading the RAM for a L30-105?

  • Upgrade SSD in Satellite L50 - has

IM intend to put an SSD in my L50 - A - 1 7 but I don't know if my laptop supports SATAIII.

IM also not to use my ODD will be a work of caddy hard drive to put my hard drive in there to store data?

Unfortunately I can't offer you a precise answer to your question on SATA but any standard SATA laptop is such upgrade increase you mobile computer s performance quickly.

Fact is that SSDS offer substantial benefits over traditional hard drives. It is interesting to note that SATA II SSD will still be faster than virtually any rotation HDD

To find out what standard SATA laptop I recommend to install one of the two hardware diagnostic tools that are:
    -Everest Home Edition
    -Sisoft Sandra.

Problem is that your laptop does not have coverage of HARD drive in the lower corner so these updates must be performed by the authorized service provider.

As far as I know that Toshiba does not HDD caddy so you can try to use some third party caddy but if it will not work correctly is another issue.

  • After RAM upgrade on stick Satellite L30 - 10V single RAM is recognized

I just added a stick of Ram 1 GB Crucial in the L30-10 (PSL33E), but only the recognized 1 GB, the Hyundai stick (512 MB), which shipped with the laptop is no longer used by the system.

I tried to pass it around, but I can only get 1 stick of RAM to work at the time, is 1 GB, when the two Rams are placed in slots or if only the 1 GB is installed or 512 MB when I leave the 1 GB.
Do you have someone at - he managed to get 2 stick operating simultaneously, on this system?

BTW, CPU - z recognize the two sticks and reports correctly 1536 MB, the BIOS but only 1 GB, in fact less, since some plans to unlock the graphics card.

The version of the BIOS on my system is V2.80, dated 05/03/2007 and the two memory are the same speed PC2-4200.

    Hello
Anyone know if the L30 (PSL33E) supports core 2 duo?
And if yes, someone did - he tried?
(also, have noticed that most new bios for these online is v2.60 and mine is v2.80 again)

    Hello

No, I Don t it is possible because of the chipset. The chipset could not handle the new processor. The other thing is:

How do you install? You know the instructions how to exchange the processor in a mobile system? It s not the same procedure as in a desktop computer.
I did once and I had a lot of problems, especially with this thing 'firmware', because you will need a special DOS program that writes the microcode of the cpu in the bios because the characteristics of the processor.

This program is available only to technicians from toshiba and I didn t have managed to get a copy of this program.

So just forget your idea and benefit from my experience (and Don t waste money and time :))
