Upgrade XP32 bit XP64 bit.

I just bought a new gaming platform and loaded my 32-bit windows xp, to find that the 32 bit will recognize a little over 3 GB of my 8 GB of ram, so I was wondering if there is any way to upgrade my 32 bit version for the 64-bit version, or if im stuck having to buy windows 7.

You cannot perform a direct upgrade from a 32-bit operating system to a 64-bit operating system - should be a "clean install".  In any case, Windows XP 64 - bit is no longer sold as it is technically obsolete.  A 64-bit Windows 7 edition would be a much smarter choice.  Editions packed in retail of Windows 7 includes 32 - bit and one 64-bit DVD installation. Hello

    Microsoft sells more than 7.

You need to look on Amazon.com, etc..

Follow these steps before installing Windows 7:

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.

Check if your specifications are compatible for Windows 7:

I wipe my Dell Inspiron (1720). It came with Vista in 2007, but I've upgraded to Windows 7 in 2009 using the "Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade - 32 bit" download that was offered to students at the time.

Again, I have my product key for it but cannot find the original file that I downloaded to perform the upgrade. Is there a part of the Microsoft site that I can download this file from?

    * before the upgrade everything worked well.

Well I just upgraded my windows 7 32-bit to 64-bit to take advantage of the 8 GB of ram.
Everything went well, I downloaded and installed all the drivers support > downloads section for my laptop in the 64-bit section.

It seems I have a problem with the Bluetooth and network controller.
The controller of the network in Device Manager says no driver not found or installed, I tried to uninstall and reinstall the device as well as redownloading drivers and reinstall, but no luck so far.

Driver departures Bluetooth installation becomes subject to halfway and crashes, saying Bluetooth is not on, I tried fn + f8 to power on but no luck, I did the same as for the network card, uninstall, do reinstall, fresh driver, no change. In Device Manager it shows RFBUS with no driver found or installed.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Sorry for the massive post...

On a side note, I had a fresh win7 32-bit installed yesterday evening to see if I could get it working again but same problem.

    Hello

According to the specifications of the laptop this piece of hardware was shipped with the 32-bit versions and 64-bit Win7 then why you do not install the original recovery 64-bit image?
I presume you didn't create recovery media, right?

When you open the Manager, devices and network adapters is LAN or WLAN installed correctly?
    What's missing?

On BT, you're right. Impossible to install software to peripheral BT BT is not enabled correctly.
What is with FN + F8? When you use it you see BT option there?

Please note: If your notebook is WLAN switch, it must be turned on (the WLAN led should be lit) and only then you can use the FN + F8 key combination to activate the BT module.

  • Upgrade 32-bit, XP to Windows 7 64-bit

Running XP Home Edition and XP Professional Edition, the two 32 bit. on two separate machines. Try to update either of them to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.  Processor is an AMD Athlon 64 x 2 Dual core and have enough disk space and RAM. If I try to load from inside each program I get the message "this installation disc is not compatible with your version of windows.  Visiting account that I should do a CLEAN update I have supported all the files on an external hard drive with Windows Easy Transfer. If I try to do a "Custom" upgrade and start from a new drive so that I can do a clean update, I get a boot failure message saying that the disk is not correct. The Windows 7 disc is properly licensed and Windows 7 upgrade advisor reports that there are no problems with my computer and that there should be no problem.  Any ideas please?

There is no way to upgrade from XP 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit.

Assuming that the specs of your PC are robust enough to handle Windows 7, you must perform a clean installation.

But I have my doubts that you have even a 64-bit CPU! But if you want confirmation, let us know the brand, model and model number of your PC.

Finally, what do you exactly by "XP Home edition?" and Business edition I know it's the former, but the latter seems very vague!

  • You want to upgrade 64-bit but have old obsolete programs, I don't want to lose?

I'm running Win 7 32 bit and you want to upgrade to win 7 64 bit. I know that to do this I have to do a clean install. But I have many older programs, that I always use. Many of the original disc have been lost in a fire a couple of years. And most of my old programs is not yet supported more.

My only option I see is upgraded and drop them. Or build an another desktop computer and start over and keep my old computer for programs.

But I was wondering, I could replace my hard drive with a new one, save the original hard drive, load win 7 64 bit on the new hard drive. can implement a virtual machine and run older 32-bit version on it?

I'm about to bite the bullet and go, leaving my old programs behind, but I always use and I paid a lot of money for them (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and so on.

Is there any hope, or should I spend in the future and leave the past behind?

If your programs are important to you, I suggest that stick you with Windows 7 32 bit, especially if they work very well and accomplish all tasks you need to do.

You could do a P2V and migrate your installation of Windows 32 bit to a Virtual Machine, but the process is time consuming and does not guarantee stability.

Its best you have a new machine with Windows 7 64-bit configuration and gradually migrate your applications and workflows over time.

  • Upgrade Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) to Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade (64-bit) - option student... is this doable?

Hello - I have a computer with Win7 Home Premium 64-bit installed OEM directly from the manufacturer.

My University Bookstore offers Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade 32/64 - bit (English) (Student Option) - download

at a reduced price, but the description says:

Question is - why do I need a "custom installation" and not an upgrade? I am a bit confused by this description and hope someone can help me to clarify. I'd like to be able to do an upgrade so that I don't have to fuss with all the files I have and avoid the relocation of all my backup software. Thanks for any idea that anyone can provide.

If I do the custom Setup, please indicate on the measures to be taken. Thanks again.

To do as it says, the on-screen instructions are clear, and you should ALWAYS back up the data before making any major changes.

Note that an upgrade installation or custom are considered a MAJOR change... :-)

  • Illustrator 9 and 10 upgrade 64-bit download please

I'm trying to install Illustrator version 9 64-bit and upgrade 10.  I had these installed before on windows XP, but since the upgrade to windows 7, I can install has not been the disks I have (these are 32-bit versions).  I tried to install discs, but they do not work, I think I need a different version that is compatible with windows 7.  I tried to go to the section download and download a few different things, hoping one would be illustrator 9 and 10 but I can't seem to find the right download.  Is someone able to please link me 64 bit downloads for Illustrator version 9 and upgrade to version 10.  I have the keys to the series, hopefully 64 bit version exists and my cd-keys will still work.

    Thank you

  • We need to get the new software we ix2-200 NAS new computers-Win 7 64 bit, old XP32 bit

    Hi everyone;

Our company's new computers and they will be Windows 7 64 bit. We currently use XP with 32 bits. Do we need new software to connect to ix2 - 200 or the software that accompanies if will be good. Thanks for you help and have a great weekend.

    Hello Raym0nd69,

There isn't any software owner to access the ix2.

They run out of network/Internet protocols.

as long as you have the IP address you can access the user interface, and as long as you map the actions you should be able to access the data.

  • Use 'restore factory of Rescue and Recovery' to upgrade 32-bit to 64-bit windows 7

I have 6 GB of ram on my Lenovo SL410. It runs win 7 32-bit.
Windows shows that it is capable of 64-bit.
Can I use "restore factory Rescue and Recovery" to perform the installation of win 7 64 bit?

    Thank you

Your recovery DVDs are listed here:

    http://support.Lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-SL-series-laptops/ThinkPad-SL...

I guess if your recovery partition factory is win 7, 32 bit, it will restore win 7, 32 bit.

You can order the win7 64 bit DVD for about $50 US recovery.

  • XP32/XP64 - updates for XP32 killed XP64

I installed XP64 on a new HARD drive. XP32 remained on its original HARD disk.

All available for XP64 updates have been installed.

It was indeed a new system for XP32 needed to be reactivated - fact. New MB drivers should also be installed.

BTW, this is actually a triple boot system - Linux also. But installing Linux is not affected.

So far so good - all three os started very well.

Today, I decided to install the updates for XP32. There was a certain since it had not been used for some time. After the reboot, everything seemed fine.

However when I tried to boot into XP64 I got the missing NTLDR message. On inquiry, I discovered that it lacked all system files in the root (except pagefile.sys). No amount of repair has nothing, so I now have to start over XP64 from scratch. Because it takes days to set up all my drivers, applications etc. I'm not impressed.

I insist on the fact that, during the update process no other software or hardware has been changed.

Why what happened? How can I prevent it happening again?

For more information - the os selection is via the file Grub from Linux. Each instance of Windows sees his installation disc in C: /.
