  I create a document using CS4 InDesign that has variable text in it.  Some of the variable text is 'static', it is inserted directly a data merge.  In other cases, however, I want to display a block of text (specify) If an element in the data merge has a value and another block of text, if the data merge element has a different value.  I can do it with a script?  Here's an example: in the data merge file, I have something "WorkingHours.  It can have a value of "5-8" or "24 x 7".  If the value is '8-5' I want to display ' 08:00 - 17:00 Monday - Friday ' and if the value is "24 x 7"I want to show '24 hours, 7 days a week'.  I want the text to display in a cell in a table in my document.

  If I can do this, I just create the script, save it, and then select it via the data merge Panel to insert it into the cell where I want to output data to display?

  As Peter has already pointed out, you could do a simple IF formula in Excel, problem solved...  Well, that's if you are in a unique fusion of data.  If you are uncomfortable in Excel (first program I've ever used, I love it) you could get around that also.  Merging InDesign and data are not the ideal workflow for this sort of thing, the XM Pie to Indesign plugin is however, works costs a lot, lot$.

  When you perform multiple records per page preview is bug. Either don't use the preview, or cancel immediately after, then perform the merge.

  If you have already used a snippet in your template, it is no longer needed and should be replaced. You can copy your placeholders in a new template file. • I can't get the Adobe Content Viewer to display anything in InDesign CS6 / on a Windows 7 PC.

  I create a scrolling text in a text frame, use the Overlay Folio with the parameters of vertical scrolling and the use of the Document defining its position.  When I click on the preview icon on the control panel overlay of the Folio, it happens with the with a popup that says an excerpt on the desktop and click on it once and nothing happens.

  I fixed it.  I downloaded all the downloads for CS5 and CS6 CS5.5 Folio.  It works now.

  If the value of this placeholder in the file merger is 'bike', the sentence should be:

  You can do it. A character style for this configuration placeholder text, set in all caps.

  I use the automatic numbering of the pages for my documents, but I want to use the fusion of data as well now I find that my page numbering is continuous with each iteration of the document. Is there a way to define automatic numbering for each new document starts on page 1 or should I number each page individually or waive the data merge?

  There are two ways to link your list that you make in Excel to the identity document. One is to export the text list and place (it's a bit complex when you have so many masters) and the other is to use the data merge.

  If you want to place the text, starting with a master page that has a frame on each side of the spread (for pages face to face) to contain the dates and add any other information that will appear on all pages in the order of the day. Make sure that the images for the dates are threaded from left to right, and then click inside the image on the left with the text tool. Apply a paragraph style that includes 'Start in the next section' in the framework Options keep in the style definition. Master pages of basis for seven days on this master. Befor put you the date implementation of 365 pages list to apply the correct masters, then place the date list by holding the SHIFT key and clicking inside the frame of date on page 1.

  To use the data merge you need to add a line to the top of the list and put a name in what will become the label of the field, then export the tab delimited text (because I assume you have commas, but without tab in your arrival dates).  I make a master with only the date box and nothing else included (or start with no master) and do a one record per page, then AFTER the merger merger, apply the will find it with the other information on the correct pages.   The only solution that I can understand is to insert a search and replace the placeholder in the data file IE. WED15xxxWED18xxxWED21 then search and replacement in the mail merge generated to insert a hard return. This would then require a layout adjustment and mounting.

  I could always script that precedes, but it seems quite labour intensive and hard to understand for someone who is no script in the first place.

  If the original data is a database, you may be able to work with the data provider to program the output to give you a line for each item you need. That's essentially what you're trying to merge the data, but you have reached its limit of programmability.

  Sorting and selection, are good queries, but what you need for this specific project is called 'leap control' programming; When a category of data changes, then a few things must be inserted to start a new series of such things.   Hold the SHIFT key when you click on install. It will be "automatic formatting" to all pages and create new ones if necessary.
