    I have a body of text, and in it, I would like to apply a specific style to the paragraphs corresponding to a model. I did a GREP style that applied some changes formatting of paragraphs, I tried that it affects, but in doing so, I found that I couldn't Center these lines using a character style. InDesign provides a way to automate this so?

    Yes and no. There is no dynamically linked paragraph styles to a paragraph about his boss, but he has at least two alternatives:

    (1) use Grep-F/C

    (2) use the script FindChangeByList or MultiFindChange which is basically automate operations F/C

    Hello

    I have the following titles on each page 2 spread from a reference book of vegetable oil

    When I tried to generate a table of contents, I came across some problems

    Here are some samples

    Title I - safflower oil

    Title II - plant species: Carthamus Tinctorius (in the same line)

    I would like to take the words of plant species and remove them the style called II while maintaining

    Yes, only add to the style used for the ads themselves.

    Right hanging tabs don't you leaders, the way than do other types of tab. To work around this problem you use underscore of some sort, and the best way to do that is of a character style that does nothing, but add the underline (I like the Japanese for leaders points line style because it's subtle, but you can use what you want, as long as it is an underscore [see the custom underline options]) you apply this character style in a nested style in the paragraph style definition, because no up to 1 ^ y (the withdrawal right tab metacharacter), then the new style of underlining through 1 character.

    Dear community!

    I'm stuck...

    I have several books in indesign, I need to export to epub. I have a standardized procedure to be able to assign the task to the students.

    My problem I have I have a paragraph in style "Title2" and I would break the paragraph before that is of a 'new page '.

    This is the theory that I thought about:

    -find and change, find the style "Title2".

    -Insert a special character + paragraph break before the first character in the paragraph

    -with a second discovery and change search the special character

    -Replace with nothing and the model with the 'new page '.

    My question is how to insert with grep (?) before the first character no matter what.

  • Add commas to financial numbers using GREP

    Hi all!

    Using InDesign CC for this. This is the type of financial numbers that I do business with - $79605.01 - with more than 4 k that I add commas 1 or 2 according to the number. Final result should look like this - $79,605.01-

    So far, use GREP I in the FIND WHAT box \$[.,\d]+ and he tries to find them.  What am I missing or unable to, is what to put in the CHANGE TO box. I tried to \1$, but it does not work.

    I have need FIND WHAT already because what I have works well. I just need the script so that it will add commas to the appropriate locations. Search Google gave me a lot of answers on how to 'find' the numbers, but missing of course in the Department of "set up".

    No a kind soul help?

    Steph

    Your GREP expression returns the integer, which is not helpful in this case. I'm not all that an expert in complex GREP, but I don't see a way to do this only once with a number of variable length, so if you have cases for 1 and 2 required commas, I think you need two expressions and they need run in the correct order.

    (First of all find \d(?=\d{6}\.\d) and change to $0, which will add the comma to millions, then find \d(?=\d{3}\.\d) and change to $0, to add the comma for thousands. These expressions only work if there is a decimal number

  • best judgment for paragraph styles, object styles and character styles

    I want to learn the criteria difference and use of paragraph styles, object styles and character styles. I know how to use them, but know about the best judgment and context, when you use would be better. Can anyone recommend links? I've been using adobe. Please don't suggest books.

    Paragraph styles are whole paragraphs.

    Character styles are letters or isolated words. Do not use the long of an entire paragraph. Do not set all the attributes, only those who are different for the properties of the paragraph Style. Unlike Quark Xpress, in InDesign are character Styles used only for the difference of isolated words.

    Paragraph styles can include the character automatically Style: Styles, GREP, nested Styles, initial letters, chips automatic & numbers and line styles.

    Object styles , set the frame of the object. They include separate definitions of all of the object, the stroke and fill.

    Object styles can also be applied to images in a frame and groups.

    Object styles may also include in the following paragraph Style and a style of paragraphs in automatic way.

    Object styles have several categories, you can choose which category is relevant to apply. For example, it is possible to apply the first style object to give the stroke and fill and apply a different object style to format the corners only and then apply the next. (With this method last only the applied object Style is linked).

    Styles of the opportunity to make global changes in a document. If you build in a smart way, they are a huge time saver. They can be stored in the CC libraries or libraries with objects that are applied to them. If you have created once these styles, you can use them again, and with one or two clicks, you can make their own to new document.

    My recommendation: the habit of Styles, name them always with the same names that it helps you to be accustomed to them and to work faster, much faster.

    There are more models: Table Styles, Styles of cell, the Master Pages and color chart.

  • Can I use GREP to transform every fourth tab back?

    I have a huge file with tabs plus 5,000, and only every fourth tab must be changed for a return. Is this possible using GREP or ANY OTHER METHOD and pressing back another me having to manually select each fourth tab?

    This screen is pulled before running GREP? You don't mention he had already returns after the names in some places.

    You need the * after all the [^ \t] elements, but avoids the. +. [^ \t] is a negative class, that means anything that is not a tab, and the * means 0 or more times.

    And you said every fourth tab, so it's actually the tab after the postal code, and which seems to do what you ask. If you want to change the tab after the name on the first line, I this would address differently.

    Find ^(.*?\t.*?) (\t) (?!\(\d{3}\)) which means find any character at the beginning of a paragraph (if there is) followed by a tab and more characters (if there are any), then a followed by three digits in parentheses DO NOT tab, and change $ 1 which should only change the tabs after the names. It is, however to change the tab after the postal code if the following line does not begin with three digits in brackets.

    Looking at the ads, are you sure you want to change this tab for a paragraph, rather than just a forced line break return (you can do by changing to $1\n)? It depends on how your styles are implemented...

  • I can target fat with GREP - in dialog paragraph styles?

    Hello.

    I have a number of paragraphs which are mainly "regular" (as the font style: ordinary) but they also have a few bold throughout.

    I'm doing a paragraph style that will apply a character style to text bold using GREP.

    Is there a GREP code for this (to not apply the character for the "BOLD" style and nothing else)?

    I know it's easy to do in the Find/Replace dialog box, but I wonder about the paragraph style dialog box in the GREP section.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

    Indeed, it is easy to do.

    You do not have to use GREP, you can use the query to search/replace text.

    Start by creating your character for "BOLD" style. (Let's call it "CBold")

    Then create your paragraph style, with your desired settings (let's call it "PReg")

    Finally, click on search it icon 'specify attributes to find', 'Bold' and replace it with character styles and paragraph previously defined:

    Who will do the job.

    Please note that this "erases" all text attributes (for example, italic...) in your paragraph.

    Also, it will apply changes to paragraph all if no style is specified in the search for options: including securities i.e.

    So, be careful when you use this method...

  • Adding hyperlinks and text ankles using Grep

    Hi all

    I tried to add both a hyperlink text source and destination within my document using Grep, but I can't seem to do things. I'm looking to find the source text that has the style of paragraph "1HD" and begins with the word 'History', and then turn that into the source text for the hyperlink. Secondly, that the text "References" later to become the anchor of the text to the destination of the link. As a reference, here is what is defined:

    var myHeader = app.findGrepPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = "1HD";
    var myHeader = app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "Historical \w*";

    as well as

    var myAnchor = app.findGrepPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = "";
    var myAnchor = app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "References";

    I did experiment with information I could get my hands on in line, but I always feel to get an error or another. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards and thanks in advance.
