Most of my (currently 130 GB) songs on my computer are CD quality that I prefer to keep as well as my notes of each song (i.e. 5 * vs. 4 * etc.), playlists, groups (music, classical, popular, country etc.).  What are the advantages and disadvantages to store my iTunes songs while CD quality with my personal notes, reading lists, groupings in the cloud?  ICloud of Apple Drive ($ 2.99 per month or $36 / year for 200 GB) would be the best way to automatically update and maintain my rankings iTunes personal including the future editions of the song etc or using Amazon, IBM, Microsoft etc cloud or an external hard drive SSD would work as well and maybe cheaper?  I currently have my iTunes on a PC of 2007 with vista (I use a 1 8T Western Digital external upward by car for my personal info all over HP, songs, photos etc. which is currently close to 170 GB) but also have an Apple i-phone 6 & I Air cushion.  Although I did not need to have all of my music with all their sides, etc. available on all of my devices at all times as iTunes game, I still would have easy access to information on both my PC and my iPhone or iPad?  Thank you.

  I back up my data to an external drive for several reasons.  The first is my data - if I put on the cloud, someone else has control over it, they can see what I have and change the preferences to what they see of marketing.

  Almost as important as that - if I had to rely on the cloud whenever I wanted to update my playlists on my phone, I need a better internet connection I have now (working at sea).  To get the best out of the cloud, you need a solid link to home, work or mobile.

  As a spin-off - I hate the fact that Apple take away a feature in their software updates and then allow an app to be sold in their store to replace this feature - or worse still, some features that were available before the updates are now "cloud only."  And Yes - you have to pay for the cloud.  I like most of the people do not appreciate the 'accomplished fact. "

  From the back of the external hard drive ASI downside, is that to be safe, you need to store outside in a separate computer place.  If keep you them together, if one is lost, probably, they are both.  That is to say for me a full backup before you travel, then a new upward as soon as I go home.  Downside is how much data may be lost between the two back ups if I needed to restore.  For me, its worth the risk.  If I was away and say had bought a ton of new music and couldn't go home anytime soon, I can always head to the store and buy a new external drive, they are massively expensive.  Even if my computer has to go for repair and my remote is to halfway around the world - I want to buy a new one.

  Now, some will say that once you buy a new external, you spend more than you would on a cloud subscription.  It's true, but in the 6 years following the purchase of Mac that I've only had to buy a new external once - so with a little luck and planning - it works.

  Well, it depends on how the device is connected. It has its own ID-Apple/iCloud? I would recommend that it should have its own, as sharing an iCloud or Apple ID may cause Messages, FaceTime, Notes, virtually everything to share between the two phones. Most people find it quite annoying.

  Try to go into System Preferences/iCloud and stop synchronization. Wait a few minutes, then recheck the timing.

  You cannot delete the photos and keep them in iCloud photo library.

  You can reclaim space on your phone with: settings > Photos & camera > optimize iPhone storage that keeps the smaller version, more low resolution on the phone and original version enlarged in iCloud.

  You can use a service advantage cloud service like DropBox or Flickr 3rd.

  The best way to free up space is to import them to your computer and delete what you don't need on your phone: iOS: import personal pictures and videos of iOS devices to your computer

  Decided that I would try using iCloud for synchronization of photos to all my devices - ipad and iPhone.  A simple and way big to keep all the features of update of the sounds.  I followed all the directions for setting this up and find that this more complicated that we shouldn't.  I finally got some pictures in the library iCloud for my computer, but of course they do not appear on the iphone or iPad.  I apparently won't implement the iphone or the ipad properly.  I think I tried everything I could find on this operation, but nothing works. I might have to overcome my 8 year old grandson to help me.

  Yyou don't use iCloud.com to display your photos on your iPad and your phone, you use the Photos app with iCloud library active, just like the photos on your Mac.

  I want to use iCloud drive to share some of my photos with my mother. I used Dropbox for that so far, but now that I have the upgrade to 50 GB of storage iCloud, which seems the best choice.

  Just to be clear, iCloud backup & iCloud drive are essentially two separate things.

  This can be useful, iCloud is primarily a service synchronization. Means that it can take the changes you make on one device and other devices to update this change if you do not have to be done individually on each device. Useful if you have more device. iCloud Drive is the term used for the part of iCloud that can synchronize files between your devices, just like Dropbox. iCloud backup is the backup of live data to iCloud part. Sync services aren't backups, just a way for your data reach another device.

  On your iPhone, if you go to:

  Settings > general > Srorage & use iCloud > manage storage (under iCloud) > [phone] (BACKUPS)

  You can see what data is stored for each application (Tap 'Show all Apps' if necessary).

  I learned by others than if I always chose to no longer use iCloud for storing my photos I'll lose these pictures.

  If you use iCloud photo library, you have two options:

  1. You can download your photo library in iCloud, but keep all original photos on your Mac as well.
  2. You can transfer your photo library on iCloud and enable optimization of storage.  Then you can save storage on your Mac, but you will need to download the originals from iCloud, when you want to edit or export your photos. You can change, if you have an Internet connection.

  Without optimization of storage you can disable iCloud library anytime, because all the pictures are on your Mac. If you "Optimize storage", you will have to disable this option and wait for your photos to download it again, before disabling iCloud photo library.  See this help page: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/phtf5e48489c (last paragraph).

  This applies to 'My Photo Stream', not iCloud Photo library.  iCloud provides many services to be used with photos.  My photo stream is a way to transfer photos between devices.  It broadcasts photos between devices and implements buffer your most recent photos for a limited time, so that all devices can download new photos.  But this isn't a photo library in iCloud, see: iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ

  If you have a large library of Photos, you need a subscription paid iCloud to transfer the full library.

  iCloud library is useful if you have multiple Macs or mobile devices and want to keep the libraries updated on all your devices.  Or if you want to be able to access your photo library in iCloud from mobile devices, because you don't have enough storage on the device.

  But it is not intended as a backup of your photos with a cloud.  You will need to keep a backup of your library of Photos as well.

• Folders in library app in "iCloud drive.

  Just started using iCloud Drive and noticed it automatically creates folders for different file types. For example, there are a record of Pages documents, another for one extract, another for TextEdit, etc.. Which means that if I store a Pages document in a folder that I create, iCloud drive creates an alias for this document and stores it in the Pages folder.

  I have absolutely no use for these files, and they clutter up my vision of what is in iCloud Drive. So I tried to put them all in a bin folder to get them out of sight, but it won't let me. I can't hide them. Here's what I can do to get rid of these useless, but it was created automatically, records?

  If you need to hide these files, you can always create a new folder (for example) documents and aliases to folders that you do not want access inside this folder, you can then put the file in your sidebar Finders.

  HI, please help a total techaphobe. I need to store my photos in iCloud (that is already installed on my iPad, I have Apple ID n all). I tried to select the photos, but there is no option, then save in the cloud. There is nothing in "iCloud Drive" (I have no idea what Drive is in iCloud). I'm sure it's there somewhere, but it seems that I have to trawl through so much, I hope one of us guys can help me with a frank explanation...

  Go to iCloud.com on a browser and click the Photos app to see if your photos are indeed already in iCloud.  You can also check the Photos app on your iPad as well.

  Another thing to note, you can't delete photos from your iPad, because, unfortunately, is not how iCloud works.  It's a synchronization service and not an archival.  There is not your traditional cloud based.  Which means that it syncs your data on all of your devices that have them at your disposal.  Remove a device and it went on all devices.
