Using RMAN/Flashback to restore or passage / failover to the backup database
Hello
I'm new on the protection of the data. I read the documentation and have implemented the Data Guard for my database of test called PPRD. So I PPRD for the primary database and PPRD_DR0 for sleep.
I've implemented the custody of data with the default, maximum Performance. I'm testing. (That's 11 GR 2. I also use SQL/RMAN to set everything up. I can implement Grid Control to administer it.
What I was asking is - as the case may be, are there times where I'm better NOT do a failover to the standby? Given that the PPRD is in archivelog mode (of course) and we have full and incremental backups archivelogs all being written to the disc, AND my expectation is mode maximum performance... is there times where there was NO data loss by restoring the database and he recovering from RMAN? Indeed, recovery logs are intact, not if the first line of conduct?
Now, obviously if there is some sort of disaster and the primary is destroyed we would failover to our expectation. But for most typical failures, wouldn't we want to use RMAN and the backups/archivelogs as a first course, because there MAY be loss of data with the maximum performance mode? Also, I know there are views, that we can use to see how in sync is the day before, but I'm a little unclear on this. At the time of a database problem, if we do not have an automatic failover enabled and configured, exactly how can we check how to synchronize the standby is with the primary? (I know that this response is common and there, I don't want to ask the obvious question.)
Since I was in archivelog and flashback as well on mode the primary... If the primary is still intact (but has a problem) I use RMAN, flashback, etc. before making failover/switching in high school?
Thank you for any response.
Hello;
Yes. For me, a failover is a last resort. Ask yourself a few questions:
My company requires an availability of 100%?
How long the principal will be not not available?
How long and how to recover from failover?
I can make a move to the place?
Each year we turn off the room of servers for a weekend. What I do, it is a failover, then a switch after the old primary appears as the day before and catch up.
Here are my notes of failover test:

Thank youHello;
In my view, that it is a bug that has to do with the compatibility of the compression.
I think that work around is:
alter system set "_compression_compatibility"="11.2.0";
Let me confirm with a document number of MOS
Subsequently Cannot find the doc of MOS - this has some details:

Question about restoring, Image Recovery copy at the JRC
version: 11.2.0.3
Platform: AIX 6
Found the following in
http://www.oracleracexpert.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
The author of the blog saysSYS@DBTEST>startup mount SYS@DBTEST>switch database to copy; SYS@DBTEST>Recovery the database; SYS@DBTEST>Alter database open;
"Please note that we didn't restore the backup from backup drive or media, we did the backup database."
Then, how it will work for the restorations in CARS? Because, after "switching" to a data file that is now on one disc of the instance will be able to access this data file. Right?
Even if we be cross-mount the backup location to both nodes, the data file will still not be in the ASM diskgroup where it was initially stored?But I can't place images RMAN copies in ASM starts. I can?
Huh? Where did you hear that? An ASM DiskGroup is frequently used as an MRE (Flash/Fast Recovery area) defined via DB_RECOVER_FILE_DEST. As you can place BackupSets in ASM, then you can everything place Image Copies in ASM.

Let the RMAN to know the location of the backup during RMAN DUPLICATE item
RDBMS Version: 11.2.0.3
Platform: AIX 6.1
I spent a few discussions lately about the creation of standby DB by using the RMAN DUPLICATE method.
Taking an example from a thread by steve74 yesterday.
The commands below are executed after copying the elements of hot backup of the primary DB Backup on the standby server.
The auxiliary instance is just in NOMOUNT. Lets say I copied the primary DB Backup items to the--- Will be running the following DUPLICATE command from standby server export ORACLE_SID=orcldg SQL> startup nomount pfile='/u01/app/oracle/11.2/db_home1/dbs/initorcldg.ora' rman target sys/mypass@PRIMARY_TNS auxiliary / run { allocate channel C1 device type disk; allocate auxiliary channel C2 device type disk; duplicate target database for standby nofilenamecheck; }
following in the standby server location
I don't see all the above commands which allows to RMAN knows about this place where are stored the backup pieces. For regular DB cloning, we are cataloging of backup items using the CATALOG command. But, you need a control file to do cataloging. The auxiliary instance does still not have control file. So, how this work?/u04/backup/RMAN
Hello
simple. duplicate is a faster and simpler, method because you issue a command.
After configuration, you issue a command, and if the pfile/spfile is properly configured, RMAN takes care of ALL the necessary measures, even for ASM (assuming the switch of data file also). It restores the CF, he set up the db, it restores, it retrieves, it updates the CF with the correct names, it converts file names if necessary, open the DB ETC.
And, since only a single command is used, it is less prone to errors.
And allows you to save a lot of trouble.
Quite simply, you have a few details such as the location of the backuppieces.It works very well also for DEV env refreshes (with a few modifications on the pfile/spfile file).

Restore the backup files. Windows Vista Expert needed!
Help! Recently, a virus wiped out my operating system (Windows Vista). C drive my PC had literally nothing about it. Then I got a new VISTA OS installed by a repair shop. I tried to restore my previous configuration from the backup I had on an external drive, using the Vista Backup & Restore utility. This "worked" except that he restored the backup files in a separate location on the C drive. Using the windows Explorer I see all those files that have been restored in a folder named "Thom".
However the new Vista installation has the user name "Thomas" where a configuration complete, (Documents, Favorites, desktop, etc.), was created. When I connect, it's the config I see (new office, new files and folders for this new user, 'Thomas'. I want to use the configuration, (files, folders, office computer), under the former name "Thom", not this new one, "Thomas."
I'm afraid to just delete the files under Thomas I'm afraid I'm going to destroy my access to Windows in general. Currently, I show only a user account in the control panel. I don't have the 'Thom' user in the folder of the user within the new configuration. How to delete files and folders under Thomas and use files and folders in the folder named Thom that is located on drive C?
All restoring the backup files are there, they show just a folder on drive C, titled "Thom". When I connect to my pc it takes me to your desktop created by the new facility. I need ALL the files in the backup (office, e-mail, files & folders), not the Setup program created by the installation of the new Vista. I want to be able to connect to windows and have it use the backup files, which are located in this folder named "Thom" which show on the C drive.
Can I simply combine or merge or copy the files in the folder 'Thom', I want to use in the files of the same name, (contacts, documents, Favorites, desktop), which are under the name of "Thomas"? Can I remove folders under the user 'Thomas' and all it's files and records and hope that windows then takes me in the files that I want to use?
I use my laptop, (HP Pavilion, 64-bit), for business and I'm dead in the water until I can access my old configuration. I am on day 5 of this disaster and I am desperate, please help!
Hello Reggie999,
Thanks for the return of the response. You can move the files/folders in the 'Thom' folder in your new user account 'Thomas '. Or another option would be to create a new user account and call it what you want, then move the folder in this user account.
If you create a new user account and move your files/folders to this account, it would be nice to delete the user account 'Thomas '. Just make sure that you have all of the files in the profile that you have recently created/added.
New profile:

Hey there BigWhit :)
I'd follow Ankit suggestions because I think that it would be useful.
I would also check the condition of the car, because it can cause problems if there are problems with it. I connect to a working PC and run the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool. If the drive passes extended tests it should be made safe to use and fast.Post back with some results :)
See you soon!

RMAN duplicate for standby the active database and the missing data files
We have a car of 2 node ASM 11 GR 2 and 11.1 of database and a standby with ASM also. Our database is relatively low (300 GB)
and in one recent event the day before was such a departure from the primary that we decided to "repopulate" the data using duplicate RMAN.
I deleted the data files of the previous day and followed the Oracle documentation to duplicate a database. In the waiting
I created a static listener and a pfile containing only the essential information (db_unique_name). I started the day before with nomount using the 'empty' pfile.
I run RMAN, connected to the target and ancillary catalogues and run this command:
run { allocate channel prmy1 type disk; allocate channel prmy2 type disk; allocate channel prmy3 type disk; allocate channel prmy4 type disk; allocate channel prmy5 type disk; allocate auxiliary channel stby1 type disk; duplicate target database for standby from active database nofilenamecheck; }
RMAN duplication completed without errors, so I started the rescue database and got
an error saying that datafile XXX is missing. I checked XXX datafile at the primary level
and it is in a DISCONNECTED state. In the standby database the same data file is in the online state.
So I think the problem is that during the duplication, RMAN (as documentation States) does not work
Copy the files of data in offline mode, but the standby control file seem to think that these data files
are online and should be present.
Can someone please help me solve this problem? From my understanding, I could just copy the missing persons
data files (there are many however) and in the standby go offline, but I don't think it's
the right solution, edit this file for control of the standby? I would add another option
in the RMAN script?
Take the data file in offline mode on the site of the previous day.
I don't think that two COPIES try to manage separately offline files.

SLDB tnsnames entry should be on the * server database * because it is the database server process that initiates the connection to the remote database.
I also noticed that you have *. ABC.COM in use. Ideally USING "sldb" should have USED "sldb. ABC. COM' with SLDB. ABC.COM in the tnsnames.ora on the database server.

Here's my question after tons of research and test without have the right solutions.
Target:
(1) I have a 12.1.0.2 database unique main enterprise 'testdb' as database instance running on the server "node1".
(2) I created physical standby database "stbydb" on the server "node2".
(3) DataGuard running on the mode of MaxAvailability (SYNC) with roll forward in real time 12 default c apply.
(4) primary database has 3 groups of one-man redo. (/oraredo/testdb/redo01.log redo02.log redo03.log)
(5) I've created 4 standby redo logfiles (/oraredo/testdb/stby01.log stby02.log stby03.log stby04.log)
(6) I do RMAN backup (database and archivelog) on the site of relief only.
(7) I want to use this backup for full restore of the database on the primary database.
He is a DR test to simulate the scenario that has lost every primary & Eve total servers.
Here is how to save, on the database pending:
(1) performance 'alter database recover managed standby database Cancel' to ensure that compatible data files
(2) RMAN > backup database;
(3) RMAN > backup archivelog all;
I got elements of backup and copied to primary db Server something like:
/Home/Oracle/backupset/o1_mf_nnndf_TAG20151002T133329_c0xq099p_.BKP (data files)
/Home/Oracle/backupset/o1_mf_ncsnf_TAG20151002T133329_c0xq0sgz_.BKP (spfile & controlfile)
/Home/Oracle/backupset/o1_mf_annnn_TAG20151002T133357_c0xq15xf_.BKP (archivelogs)
So here's how to restore, on the main site:
I clean all the files (data files, controlfiles oder all gone).
(1) restore spfile from pfile
RMAN > startup nomount
RMAN > restore spfile from pfile ' / home/oracle/pfile.txt' to ' / home/oracle/backupset/o1_mf_ncsnf_TAG20151002T133329_c0xq0sgz_.bkp';
(2) modify pfile to convert to db primary content. pFile shows below
*.audit_file_dest='/opt/Oracle/DB/admin/testdb/adump '
* .audit_trail = "db".
* full = '12.1.0.2.0'
*.control_files='/oradata/testdb/control01.ctl','/orafra/testdb/control02.ctl'
* .db_block_size = 8192
* .db_domain = "
*.db_file_name_convert='/testdb/','/testdb /'
* .db_name = "testdb".
* .db_recovery_file_dest ='/ orafra'
* .db_recovery_file_dest_size = 10737418240
* .db_unique_name = "testdb".
*.diagnostic_dest='/opt/Oracle/DB '
* .fal_server = "stbydb".
* .log_archive_config = 'dg_config = (testdb, stbydb)'
* .log_archive_dest_2 = "service = stbydb SYNC valid_for = (ONLINE_LOGFILE, PRIMARY_ROLE) db_unique_name = stbydb'"
* .log_archive_dest_state_2 = 'ENABLE '.
*.log_file_name_convert='/testdb/','/testdb /'
* .memory_target = 1800 m
* .open_cursors = 300
* runoff = 300
* .remote_login_passwordfile = "EXCLUSIVE."
* .standby_file_management = "AUTO".
* .undo_tablespace = "UNDOTBS1.
(3) restart db with updated file pfile
SQLPLUS > create spfile from pfile='/home/oracle/pfile.txt'
SQLPLUS > the judgment
SQLPLUS > startup nomount
(4) restore controlfile
RMAN > restore primary controlfile to ' / home/oracle/backupset/o1_mf_ncsnf_TAG20151002T133329_c0xq0sgz_.bkp';
RMAN > change the editing of the database
(5) all elements of backup catalog
RMAN > catalog starts by ' / home/oracle/backupset / '.
(6) restore and recover the database
RMAN > restore database;
RMAN > recover database until the SNA XXXXXX; (this YVERT is the maximum in archivelog backups that extends beyond the scn of the backup of the data file)
(7) open resetlogs
RMAN > alter database open resetlogs;
Everything seems perfect, except one of the file log roll forward pending is not generated
SQL > select * from v$ standby_log;
ERROR:
ORA-00308: cannot open archived log ' / oraredo/testdb/stby01.log'
ORA-27037: unable to get file status
Linux-x86_64 error: 2: no such file or directory
Additional information: 3
no selected line
I intended to use the same backup to restore primary basic & helps record traffic and the downtime between them in the world of real output.
So I have exactly the same steps (except STANDBY restore CONTROLFILE and not recover after database restore) to restore the database pending.
And I got the same missing log file.
The problem is:
(1) complete alert.log filled with this error, not the concern here
(2) now repeat it in real time apply won't work since the Party shall LGWR shows always "WAITING_FOR_LOG."
(3) I can't delete and re-create this log file
Then I tried several and found:
The missing standby logfile was still 'ACTIVE' at present RMAN backup was made.
For example, on db standby, under Group #4 (stby01.log) would be lost after the restoration.
SQL > select GROUP #, SEQUENCE #, USE (s), the STATUS from v$ standby_log;
GROUP # SEQUENCE # USED STATUS
---------- ---------- ---------- ----------
4 19 ACTIVE 133632
5 0 0 UNASSIGNED
6 0 0 not ASSIGNED
7 0 0 UNASSIGNED
So until I take the backup, I tried on the primary database:
SQL > alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2 = delay;
This was the Group of standby_log side Eve #4 was released:
SQL > select GROUP #, SEQUENCE #, USE (s), the STATUS from v$ standby_log;
GROUP # SEQUENCE # USED STATUS
---------- ---------- ---------- ----------
4 0 0 UNASSIGNED
5 0 0 UNASSIGNED
6 0 0 not ASSIGNED
7 0 0 UNASSIGNED
Then, the backup has been restored correctly without missing standby logfile.
However, to change this primary database means break DataGuard protection when you perform the backup. It's not accept on the production environment.
Finally, my real questions come:
(1) what I do may not do on parameter change?
(2) I know I can re-create the control file to redo before delete and then recreate after. Is there any simple/fast to avoid the standby logfile lost or recreate the lost one?
I understand that there are a number of ways to circumvent this. Something to keep a copy of the log file waiting restoration progress and copy up one missing, etc, etc...
And yes I always have done no real-time applies "to the aid of archived logfile" but is also not accept mode of protection of production.
I just want proof that the design (which is displayed in a few oracle doc Doc ID 602299.1 is one of those) that backs up data backup works effectively and can be used to restore the two site. And it may be without spending more time to resume backups or put the load on the primary database to create the database before.
Your idea is very much appreciated.
Thank you!

1--> when I take via RMAN backup, RMAN does not redo log (ORL or SRL) file, so we cannot expect ORLs or SRL would be restored.

Problem with the archive log when you use RMAN for backup and restore (11g 2)
Hello world
Please help me solve this problem.
I'm just beginner in Oracle Database (11 g 2). Today, I had a problem, I tried to back up and restore my db by RMAN. I delete all the files in /u01/app/oracle/oradata/orcl / * , then I restore them easily, but the point is I have a table, I can restore Hungarian, but cannot restore anything ranks in it (something wrong with step restore database). I'll tell the detail below.
-First, I create a 'Day' with command table create table hr.day (varchar (20)) day. Then I backup complete by this:run{
allocate channel bkp device type DISK FORMAT '/u01/backup/DB_FULL_%d_%T_s%s_p%p' ;
backup as compressed backupset incremental level 0 tag 'DB_FULL' database include current controlfile;
backup as compressed backupset tag 'ARCL_BKP_FULL' archivelog all delete input;
crosscheck archivelog all;
crosscheck backup;
delete noprompt obsolete;
release channel bkp;
}
D ' other hand, I have insert 'Monday' to table. then do an incremental backup by this:run{
allocate channel bkp device type DISK FORMAT '/u01/backup/DB_INC_%d_%T_s%s_p%p' ;
backup as compressed backupset incremental level 1 tag 'DB_INC' database include current controlfile;
backup as compressed backupset tag 'ARCL_BKP_INC' archivelog all delete input;
crosscheck archivelog all;
crosscheck backup;
delete noprompt obsolete;
release channel bkp;
}Repeat 7 times (Monday-> Saturday). And I got these files:
[oracle@rac ~]$ ls -l /u01/backup/

If i ignore it and open the database, just my table in full backup come back but rows was not restored. I'm sure the problem is my archive log backup but i don't know how to solve it. Plz help me.Sorry for a long post.
> 1 and from the 1205841 SNA sequence
The SCN that indicates Oracle is above the range of SNA that you have in the ArchiveLog backups for sequence 1 to 15 (15 sequence ends at 1205840).
The message
channel ORA_DISK_1: restoring archives Journal
Archives journal thread = 1 sequence = 15
channel ORA_DISK_1: backup/u01/backup/DB_INC_ORCL_20160120_s117_p1 piece reading
channel ORA_DISK_1: piece handle = / u01/backup/DB_INC_ORCL_20160120_s117_p1 tag = ARCL_BKP_INC
indicates that he has restored the sequence up to 15
You can check the log file alert database instance for messages on the fact of recovery.
He is now asking sequence #1 it seems you did a RESETLOGS after sequence #15.
Note: If you have NOT issued a COMMIT after the line is INSERTED in the table 'Day', the recovery of the database will have no * transactions * to retrieve. An uncomitted transaction is cancelled.

RMAN Backupsets restore from a BAND on the disc?
Hi guys,.
Please help me, we back up our 11g i.e. databases (extra strength 0, level 1 & archivelogs) disk with RMAN and then subsequently run another script for the backupsets of the DISC on a backup TAPE.
Now, I would like to know, how to restore these backupsets BAND on the DISC with RMAN back if possible? We are using Veritas NetBackup for Oracle - version 7.5.
PART OF THE SCRIPT EXAMPLE DISK to TAPE BACKUP:
run
{
allocate channels ch1 type 'SBT_TAPE ';
Send "NB_ORA_SERV = master_server_name, NB_ORA_CLIENT = client_name, NB_ORA_POLICY = netbackup_policy, NB_ORA_SCHED = schedule_name';"
backupset backup all the format = "${ORACLE_SID} %U _full_tape_" no saved;
output channel ch1.
}
Kind regards
ZKM
Hello, with rman you can restore the files of data, controlfiles, archivelogs, storage... (IE, your database), but I believe that you cannot restore a stb to a disc backupset backupset, you restore a backupset o filecopy to a "restore" object, not a backupset. :
http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/backup.112/e10643/rcmsynta2008.htm#RCMRF149
You can restore it with:
RMAN > restore database the tag ' '.
If you have configured channel decoders and disk channel, rman will first try to restore from disk and if it is not backupset on disk, rman restore of stb.
RMAN: Creating and restoring backups to disk and tape (Doc ID 1397703.1);
Kind regards.
