Using text-to-speech

I got a new computer with Vista on it. It has voice recognition software on it that I'm not familiar with and my efforts to get help for her online were in vain. I think I knew how to turn my voice into text. What I don't know is how to do so that he can read the text to me. He apparently Microsoft Speech Recognizer 8 and I have it configured - confirming that it works when put test text in the box. But I can't understand how to do so that he can read the mails or documents for me. I use Windows Live Mail. Any help or pointing me in the direction of the help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi dj928,.

Please check the following links concerning Windows Narrator, which is included in Windows Vista.  These should hopefully help you get started.

  • Can I stop the slide (text to speech) audio when a legend of quizzes with audio feedback is displayed?

Hi there, we use text-to-speech on all of our slides, however there is a problem, we have been unable to resolve.  If we have audio on a blade of quiz that this continues to play when the legend of feedback is displayed.  This means that if a learner clicks on the answer quickly, they hear the text on the slide and the text of the caption on top of the other.  How can I stop the slide audio if the legend of feedback is displayed.  We tried shares advanced to "stop audio triggered" and experimented with invisible text captions that have audio added, but have not so far resolved.  Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem? Any help gratefully received, thank you so much Janet

PS We use 8 Captivate with the installed voices text-to-speech

It is currently a common problem with audio in modules of Captivate quiz slides.

The configuration options for interactive objects on slides of quiz does not allow the same level of control for audio playback with normal interactive objects on other slides.  (for example to be able to stop the other audio when the user clicks on something).

The Audio triggered Stop action is often misunderstood.  But as its name makes clear, it only applies to stop an audio clip that was TRIGGERED by another action of the art.  That does not apply to background sound, slide level audio or audio level object.

My suggestion is that you return to your design and determine which of the two audio clips (sound feedback or slide) you can do without.  Maybe your learners them useless as much as you think.

  • Text-to-speech in slidelet

    Hello

    Here's my situation:

I have an image in grayscale on a slide which is accompanied by an audio speech synthesis. I want to be able to roll on 3 areas (top, middle, low) and the bearing will be

    1. Use this part of the image to the color,
    2. set up a title next to the portion of the image that is in color
    3. have the legend read using text-to-speech

I tried to do a slidelet to show the colored upper version, but when I put the colorful picture, he was behind the image in grayscale. I made the slidelet was above the image in grayscale in the timeline panel, but still it did not show the colored upward version.

Also, how can I add TTS for the slidelet? When I'm in the slidelet and open the notes slide, it shows me audio for the whole slide. Any change I make seem to affect the entire slide, not only the slidelet.

I am a novice at all this, so feel free to talk to me slowly.

    Thanks for any help!

You can read the audio only when running which has already been recorded and downloaded.  You cannot generate text-to-speech during execution (but it would be really groovy).

You can only show or hide the objects on the slide viewing.  Your advanced actions will not affect slides that are not currently on the timeline.

If you want an interactive object (for example your X) in the corner of a text caption, you would need to combine these two objects (text caption and button form with an X as its text), give the Group an ID and then use the button shape to trigger a tip action that MASK being grouped.

  • Text-to-speech must be used in moderation?

Due to problems of size of final publication for Adobe Captivate files, text-to-speech use sparingly?

I used narrative extensively in my drawings of e-learning for years. I usually keep my free quiz questions of narrative, but about all the other slides in my classes include.

It has been my experience that other media such as videos or a too high resolution images, are what usually slows down a course. Of course the new Captivate 9.0.2 must solve some of these issues with the effectiveness of improved performance.

  • Text to speech: is it legal to use the output into something else that "for personal use?

I'm looking for some legal specific information about the licenses on the function 'Generate the word' hearing.

    Screen Shot 2016-05-06 at 3.05.31 PM.png

I found some info here: generate speeches | Adobe Audition but I'm not quite clear on what can or cannot be done. It States, in part:

"Your operating system has probably some voices already installed for you, which are usually for personal use only and is not allowed for use in commercial projects... »

    My question is 2 times:

    1. when he says "generally" is it legal (I suppose that Apple or shade) that can expand on this statement?

    2. by 'commercial' which covers the distribution (i.e., creating an MP3 of the voice of Samantha and sell) as well as the use in everything will be for sale or public consumption?  There is another line in the quoted doc which suggests to use to "interesting transitions and narration, or to be used in the design of the game."

The specific use case with which I am afraid would use a voice generated on a piece of hardware, which, at the start, would be to say 'Hello!' via an mp3 of the voice - it is not a product of speech synthesis.

    Thank you for your time!

When I was developing this feature (thanks to try), I found this question online: audio - are copyrighted by the text to speech voice Apple? - ask different

Which lead me to go to the license agreements of real software for OS X (Apple - legal - software). You'll probably want to go yourself, choose your version and the search for "voice". You will see a similar snippet of the thread above.  Since you're screenshot is on OS X and the voice you use is provided by the operating system, I think it would be the authority in this situation.  Hearing is simply to expose functionality in a practical way.

If you register a third-party voice (I think that we have links to some sellers on our help page), it should work in hearing. I know that I've tested several.  For this particular voice, you'll want to make sure you get a license for what is your destination.

  • Text-to-speech using a variable

    Hello

Is it possible to use a text variable in the text to speech for a specific slide? Are there examples of this? I use 8 Captivate to create a sensitive project.

    Thank you

    Peter

As far as I know, it is not possible to insert a variable text into TTS text in Captivate.  In fact, it really must be very careful on the use of certain types of punctuation in Captivate of TTS to avoid conflicts when running.

  • How to pause the text to speech

    Hi all

I m new text at the speech and generally enjoyed apple hear the text of PDF files, but do not know how to take a break between the two. I need the shortcut on the way to regain the text after a few breaks in between if I missed something. Y at - he of the shortcuts that I can use.

I am currently using air Macbook Os X EL Capitan(Version 10.11)

    Kind regards

    Sangeet

In v5.6.1 Pages and releases from previous pages, the text-to-speech feature can pause via the Edit: speech: stop talking about the menu item. However, speech will take not from where it was suspended, but at the beginning of the document, or text selection. No solution for that.

However, you can create a script Automator single action that will transform all text selected in a Pages document in an audio file on the desktop. That support good break and resume simply control-click audio file icon.

    1. In your Dock, click on Launchpad (rocket icon)
      1. Select other, and then the Robot Automator.
    2. When the launches of Automator, select New Document: Service: choose
    3. Locate the music library from the Automator library entries
      1. Drag and drop the text to the Audio file action to the right in the bigger window of workflow
      2. Drag and drop the encoding to MPEG Audio action below the previous action
      3. Use the settings in the screenshot accompanying as a guide. I have deliberately omitted an extension of file name for the audio file to the output of the first action it will be applied after the conversion in the second action.
      4. Now, the file menu: Save... and in my case, I gave the name of Service as text2voice.
      5. Quit Automator
    4. In System Preferences: keyboard Panel: shortcuts: Services, scroll down until you see the entrance to text2voice and check to make it active.
    5. In the Pages, select as much text you want to listen to, and then in the Pages menu: Services: text2voice - send text selected to the audio file.
    6. Click the controls to play/pause/repeat on the icon of the audio file, resulting.

Click the following command to expand the service described above.

How can I turn off text to speech that I turned it on to listen to the voice and now there seems to be no way to turn it off

    Hello

Follow the steps below to disable text to speech in Windows Vista.

    (a) go to the section on your main screen where you see the time displayed.

    (b) it is called the "bar", all kinds of small icons are visible here, there's even a gadget of the small arrow that would normally point to the right if you have a lot of programmes to help you use windows.

    (c) "left click on"the small arrow in a circle - this will expand the list to display small icons, drip slowly mouse over the bar of 'system' in order to launch a pop - up of each icon, once you reach the icon that says something like "text to speech tool","make a clique right".

    (d) a pop-up list appears showing what options are available - option whatever go to "Properties" or "settings", "click on" this element gives.

    (e) a new Panel will appear - in select here the article that says something like "launch on startup", it should have a box next to it, that will be ticked or marked in some way - "click" this element so that it seems to be clear and followed by the button "apply" "click" the button "OK" - which should solve your problem.

  • How can I create a text-to-speech .wav file?

I would like to create wave files using the text-to-speech feature in Windows or by using another method.  Is it possible to do this on Windows?  If this isn't the case, anyone know if there is a freeware/shareware that would work?

I realize a logical solution is to record the voice - but I'm not looking for this option.
    Thanks to all the advice...

Years ago some of my SB software had a lab and 1 option audio program that was in there was the option "Record what you hear" that allowed me to save all who played through my sound card on my speakers no matter what the source. I am sure that there must be still of programs with options like that out there, try to go on your favorite leading software download site and search for such a program.
