Using VM Ware Server 2 for disaster recovery

I tried VM Ware server and VM Ware converter quite earlier, and they have done wonders for purposes of recovery after a disaster.

I just got a new server and I'm trying to do the same things. Then I noticed that VM Ware Server is upgraded to 2, and I can't find VM Ware converter. Can someone tell me what I can use to convert a server into a virtual image? I'm just very confused and do not have the time to read each documentation to find what I need. Thank you very much!

Single use: it can convert a virtual machine at a time.  The paid for the product can be implemented to convert several machines and you can let it work.

  • Procedures and guidelines for Disaster Recovery (DR)

    Hi all

Our TI auditor asked me to submit/provide procedures for guidelines for disaster recovery.

I tried Google, but the process docs seem so vast and complex.

We have a dataguard configuration. Can I give him to the contrary the docs on how to recover/restore using Data Guard?

Can you share me link to good documentation on the recovery?

    Thank you

    Petra k.

    > We have a dataguard configuration

Generally, the documentation is created with the Setup program. Documentation describing the configuration.  Documentation detailing the procedures for different situations.  Documentation that lists the commands to use and the expected responses for commands. Documentation that indicates the error handling methods if you try the commands.

Your dataguard configuration is incomplete without these documents.

  • Can we create a Vlan without SRM for disaster recovery testing

We are working on plans for our recovery after disaster in our VMWare environment.  We have a recovery Site which has a NETAPP file server we reproduce our VM data warehouse and SQL data.   We have no RS, but must be able to test if possible disaster recovery with Production upwards.   Is it possible to configure a VLAN and do a test isolated Dr. without SRM?   Thank you

Welcome to the VMware communities forum.

You can create a VLAN without SRM.  You will need to properly set up your network hardware, and then you add new virtual machine port groups to your ESXi hosts.  You can then save the virtual machines by giving them a different name and starts in isolation.  When you attempt to save the virtual machines they will always have a reference for the port VM production group so you'll want to make sure you update you turn on.

  • Recommendation for disaster recovery on the spot for a single server ESX from VMware vSphere 4?

I'm exploring setting up a new Dell server running ESX 4 vSphere VWware and wonder what is a good solution to allow a recovery solution disaster on-site in the event of complete failure of the server?  At the very least, I think that I would need a server similar to the site, but not sure if vCenter or what solution would allow the ability to quickly recover virtual machines, I had running on this single server?

    Thank you

Only for simple cases of storage shared. Veeam does not free ESXi support, but you can actually buy vSphere Essentials (3 guests more a vCenter) for a total of $ 500.

  • IPSec VPN between ASAs with same subnet for disaster recovery

    Hello

I need some clarification from you guys.

To do disaster EasyVPN tunnels for the Cisco ASA 5505 firewall recovery site. Now, there is only one main site and 3 remote sites.

Dr., must use the same subnet that it is on the main site because virtual machines Vmware will be replicated to DR.

For the DR we use Double-Take software.

What is the best solution for this? I think we could use NAT of Destination on ASAs. Other sites (HQ and remote control) will be directed to only address NAT of the

DR and not real which is the same as on the main site.

So guys, will this work? We are using IPSec VPN? In packet - trace on ASA, I see that the package is the first using a NAT, and then encrypted, so it should work, Yes?

I hope someone can confirm this.

I can confirm that this will work certainly,

for prior type natting see 8.3:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a0080b37d0b.shtml#diag

for 8.3 and later it is also achievable.

  • Which fibre to be used between two server rooms for 7048

I'm looking to install a new core network for two rooms of small servers and using the 7048 Powerconnect switch in a fireplace in each room.  I'm not sure that the best way to connect well.  Two server rooms are distant of about 40 m and I leave the fiber principle would be preferential over copper that distance and it would be less sensitive to interference.  I think I can put the optional Modules of 10 GB with SFP ports + in of the 7048, but I don't know what transceivers or fiber should I use for a 10 GB connection?, any idea or any recommendation please? Or if I should do something else.

Fiber is a great reliable way to connect the two switches without removing your copper ports. Here is some info on the transceivers that I listed for the 7048.

    Transceivers

The part number, WTRD1, SFP + SR optical, 10GbE

Multiplayer, 850nm, multimode 62.5 micron fiber, it has a maximum range of 26 meters of cabling

The part number, RN84N, optical SFP + LR, 10GbE

Single mode, 1310nm, 10GBASE-LR has a scope specified 10 kilometres

The part number, DT87G, SFP + LRM optical, 10GbE

Long Reach Multimode, 1310nm, 10GBASE-LRM supports distances up to 220 metres (720 ft)

Talk with your sales representative will be the best way to know which parts are easily available in your region and then your financial objective of businesses.

Another option if you have available copper ports is TROLLING to several ports set to post a link between switches. This will give you a redundancy, but not the speed of 10 GbE.

  • P2V of replication for disaster recovery solutions

    Hello

I have 4 physical servers I want to replicate at 4

Virtual machines hosted on 1 Server ESXi

What is the best software that I can use for this project?

I guess that's not once, you want to keep copies.

There are tools based on the host like DoubleTake or CA or other. I recommend DoubleTake, had good results. No need to have the support of ESXi here, its all host level.

Then, you can use backup/push tools that work on the ESX layer as vReplicator or Veeam Backup. Just work with ESXi support.

    There is a start.

  • Using Oracle 11 g Data Guard disaster recovery

Hi, can anyone answer if Oracle 11 g Data Guard by itself provides an option for making/switch between the main bases and emergency (back and forth) disaster and as a restoration solution, seamlessly? Here's the scenario:

    1. two databases (active and reserve)

2 put it to sleep (make primary with read/write)

    3. restore to the original database

Data Guard has two transitions of role... Failover and the digital switchover.

Passage to the fact exactly what you describe. You can switch to standby and vice versa. However, this will not work unless the primary and the standby are available. If you will not be able to perform an operation of swichover when you have a failure in the main data center that makes the primary db not available.

Failover will be the day before in a primary for the moments where the primary origin is not available. Unlike the digital switchover, failover is one-way. There is no 'restoration' of failover. If you do not failover, then once the old Center of main data is operational again and you can get the former primary database up, you must restore from the first news and make a watch for the first new. At this point, you can then make a pass to come back and run in the original data center.

  • Cannot read DVD ROMS using VM Ware Server 2.0

is this something that can be changed? Or what happens when you use the free version?

I am trying to install SQL Svr 08 on Server 2003 Std sp2 and it will not read the DVD.

Can someone close this thread. It took me a bit, but finally the guest VM read the DVD

Now that I've posted this, you should be able to mark as answer. Glad to hear you got it going. I tend to have my records most commonly used as ISO images so that they are (a) to the hand and (b) much faster than physical discs installation. Depending on where you store the ISOs, you can add additional data store (where VMware stores its files in a folder).

  • SAN only for VM Disaster Recovery replication

I am part of the talks for a recovery site that will not be replicated SAN data warehouses. So, we have an essentially empty ESXi environment with LUNS replicated data store. In the case of a DR, the plan would be to start the import of virtual machines in the DR ESX environment. I've never seen replication strict SAN has offered as a solution of Dr. ignore the logistics around IP, naming, etc. I want to focus on the consistency of the VMs who grew up and which have been replicated like that.

    1. My hypothesis is that the system VMs would probably upward in a consistent state of failure. Is that correct or could I do not affirm the VM would be healthy at all.
    2. If the virtual machine is running, I guess that the integrity of any application or DB data on these virtual machines would be suspect.

As I said, I never considered this scenerio. Most of the solutions I've seen using an application layer to maintain compatibility in different time intervals. Just curious if anyone has had experience with this kind of recovery.

    vmproteau wrote:

Just curious if anyone has had experience with this kind of recovery.

    Hi vmproteau,

This works perfectly.  I made thousands of these movements of the virtual machine in a uniform way down with a success rate of 100%.  The portability that we all talk about is real.  He works for me very well since 2005 when I started with EMC SRDF.  I also had great success with SnapMirror of NetApp.  If you have any kind of enterprise storage, you should be fine.  In addition, modern guest operating systems are extremely resistant to crash-compatible power (i.e. 2008 R2 is a dream come true).  In addition, I have never had a problem with NT 4.0, 2000 or 2003 in my data center migrations or exercises of DR.

Nowadays, most DBAs use something like SQL LiteSpeed and Idera to create local backups on of additional vmdk attached to the virtual machine.  If a recovery of a painting is necessary for example, they can obtain this granular coverage using these products.  Yet once again, I never had a problem with SQL put online following a crash-consistent (i.e. test DR, moving to DC or power event HA).  Of course, YMMV and you must test for your specific environment.

With respect to the RPO, it is to you to determine how often the table performs the replication.  More often = more money, of course.  You can also get more granular on the SQL backup points.  For many, a backup per day is fine.  Others take Idera SQL backups every 15 minutes for example (a slight exaggeration!).

On OTN... The biggest risk for your RTO is the lack of organization and preparation (update document and books run scripts!).  In addition, having good PMs to manage the application mapping and interdependencies is essential.  You'd be surprised to know how many tests application fails due to host files, order DNS or boot of VMS (i.e. Ideally you should show AD/DNS, then SQL, then App, then Web).  Practice makes perfect.  PowerCLI is your friend here.

Unless the plan is to re - ip, this place DR must be built as totally isolated with dedicated physical Firewall (or many sessions of sniffer and excellent ACL).  If you choose SRM (as it should!), a large part of this risk is avoided since you can test in the bubble.  Many companies bit on correct insulation and end up hurting prod during the test.  Don't, don't.  Physical Citrix is particularly vulnerable to this and is often required for DR since many apps is published exclusively via Citrix.  Often, the Citrix server will eventually be multihomed (so the company doesn't have to pay for additional SQL and Citrix license servers, etc.) and will be riding the Prod and isolated environments.  The default behavior is that the Citrix user will get the same routing as the underlying Citrix server so the risk is that they can connect by mistake for prod.  You must study it well.

Not to mention that Citrix, other considerations ensure good VPN and other mechanisms on the DR site (which will be used for actual testing of isolated app and DR).  Have several new hubs according to the needs and requirements of the network.  This, along with time, often being saved at the end, but are important to your success and should be reviewed as soon as possible.  In addition, to maintain the volumes that you both own (i.e. no laggard vmdk who are orphans, etc.).  Use scripts to check RVTools or Vsante to remain vigilant on this.  What get is replicated on the other side should be clean.  Only what you need.  Each vmx that is there should be one that gets recorded.

Anyway, with the replication table, this project should be a slam dunk.  Don't worry so much the market crash-compliant of your guests.  It works.

Firefox 3.6.6 added a new preference for connection settings, use proxy Panel"system settings", and the default value is the point. I try to use media center as my for my entire home media server.

After experimenting with several servers and clients on tv

I decided to use a computer at each location tv, I want that these pc's to connect to the central server (windows media server)

I can't choose and configure the best player on the client PC.

can I use windows media center on a second computer as a client or remote control?

or can I use media player?

How do I configure this? or where is the documentation?

What devices can be used for an Extender?

Basically, the only device that you can use as an Extender is a Xbox 360 console. You cannot use another computer. All third-party Extenders are abandoned. Media Center started as Windows 10. http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/set-up-a-Windows-Media-Center-Extender has information about the Setup program.

  • Can I use IBM HTTP Server as Proxy for WebCenter content?

When I worked in development, I used Apache 2.2 as a Proxy for WebCenter content.

I would use the WebLogic Server plugin 'mod_wl_22.so' in Apache to redirect the request of WebLogic.

In Production, I need to use IBM HTTP Server (IHS) as a proxy.

I couldn't find any plugin WLS for IBM HTTP Server.

When I looked at the note of support Doc-ID 1111903.1 , it does not included of IHS in the list.

This means that IHS is not supported as a proxy for WebCener content?

If not, can someone tell me where I could download the plugin, please?

I tried to use the same configurations for Apache 2.2 to the IHS.

Startup is fine, which means that IHS could load the module 'mod_wl_22.so '.

But I got error 403 for the connection.

I couldn't see any access connected the WLS, so I guess that the connection failed introduce to the IHS.

    Any suggestion, please?

If you want to use for the work of pure http proxy that I don't see why it wouldn't work. However, I didn't a study on this specific topic. However, you may need to do more things manually in the configuration box, and it cannot be officially supported. The unsupported part is often a point where I suggest you use another product that is supported.

    Kind regards

  • VCAC 6.0 when and why to use an external server for Orchestration

When and why use an external server orchistrator and not that which is incorporated into the VCAC

    Hello

generally, we recommend to use a server external vCO, for the following reasons:

(if apply current vCAC 6.0.1 version only, I hope not for future versions) the built-in vCO has a build number slightly less than version 5.5.1 vCO GA so a few new plugins only install & works correctly.

An instance separate vCO is more weakly coupled to the vCAC device, so you can for example develop, operate and maintain the systems independently of each other.

You can more easily multiple instances of vCO in cluster mode.

If you use vCO not only in the context of vCAC, but for tasks of automation / operational General, you are not "bound" in the vCAC environment.

Overall: more flexibility for the modest sum of just having an additional device.

    See you soon,.
