  All last week I increased the size of the virtual disk in one of the virtual machines to 2 TB on ESXi 5.1. Now, I realized that I should not have increased up to 2 TB (veeam backup/replica have been fault). To solve the problem, I did some digging and decided to do a V2V migration, but it keeps fails with the error "failed to get the hardware to the computer information selected.

  This error occurs only for this particular virtual machine. I tried other virtual machines on the same host without problem. Log file has error "1 ERROR disc ha-nfcssl of operation: /" tried to run the converter as an administrator with no luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need more information. Thank you

  Here's what we will do:
  1. check inside the VM diskmanagement: current partition size is 2048 GB - space free at present 230 GB
  2 run a defragmentation from within the guest and power VM off when finished
  3 create the snapshot
  4. start VM LiveCD with gparted and resize partition
  5. start VM back to Windows and run chkdsk against the resized partition
  6. If everything seems good to remove the snapshot
  7 calculate the safe size for the disk resized in MB
  8. check the calculation
  9. check the calculation
  10. check the calculation
  11. connect to ESXi with PuTTY and run a dd command that truncates the flat.vmdk
  12. change the vmdk descriptorfile to adapt to the new size
  13 start VM in LiveCD with gparted to fix the GPT
  14 boot VM in production

• V2V fails when Source behind Firewall

  I'm under vCenter Converter 4.2.1.  The vCenter Server 4.1.0 and the hosts are the ESXi 4.1.0.  I normally have no problem running a V2V when the source computer is invited on one of these hosts, but I'll try a V2V where the source is behind a firewall and it fails with «Unable to contact the host specified...» ».

  I read the following article for the necessary ports:

  By reading this article, it seems that the fact that the source is behind a firewall should not be a factor.  In the lower table, which is V2Vs, he mentions nothing on the Source computer, as in the table for P2Vs.

  Since I'm making V2Vs against source VMs residing on the same hosts as those who are behind a firewall and a failure, it seems there must some necessary direct communication vcenter to the source of the virtual machine in order to install the converter Client, but the port 445 is open to vCenter to the VMs source.  All the other ports?

  Am I missing something?  Any help would be appreciated.

  vCenter Converter integrated is a separate product with a separate installation program. Although it comes on the same media with vCenter Server, must be installed separately. It consists of a SERVER Converter (that registers as a server vCenter Server 'extension') and the customer, which is actually a plugin vCenter client. This (the customer) is what you see in ' Manage plugins '. However, in order to see vCenter Converter plugin in the plugins list in the first place, this means that the Converter server is already installed somewhere (either on the vCenter server machine or elsewhere) and it's * registered * with vCenter Server. Built-in converter Server Installer has a page where it asks for vCenter IP address of the server and the credentials. Only after that 'recording' vCenter Client to download the converter plugin Client by order of plug-ins management. You launch the client to vCenter throug conversions because it is the idea of a converter "integrated" - its user interface is integrated in vCenter Client's user interface, but vCenter Server knows nothing about the conversions - the customer detects just a command (convert) is recorded by an "extension", concludes the appropriate extension client and redirects the command to it (customer of converter). It will then connect to the Converter Server (pass its address VC - is the reason for which the registration is necessary, now VC can tell where the Converter server), the client of converter uses this information, contacts converter server directly and instructed to run the conversion task. Because the Converter server is registered in the extension of vCenter Server, it creates a task in the list of tasks of vCenter Client user interface and it reports progress there.

  So I would say that you can log on the computer where the server vCenter Server is installed and look at services that are running. If there is a VMware vCenter Converter Server (non-self) service. If there are these processes, this means indeed the Converter server is installed on the same machine where is vCenter Server, which means in this case, there should be a record of converter (NON-self) VMware vCenter under Program Files (x 86) on the vCenter server. If you can't find it there - I'd try opening in a browser https://vc-1/mob/?moid=ExtensionManager&doPath=extensionList%5b%22com%2evmware%2econverter%22%5d%2eserver , (as the VC-1 is the name/IP address of the server vCenter). The last property is 'url', and it can contain the URL of the converter, so you should be able to find it on this machine.

  Is there a quick and easy way to live online backups of an entire virtual machine running on hosts ESX4.  Something like using vmware converter perhaps.  When you buy ESX come with a built-in tool to do this?

  Well, you have a few options (from the point of view VMware): VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB) or VMware Data Recovery. All first (VCB) would probably be the only one to use with a third (not sure that DPM is taken in charge, but probably a third-party provider might have support for this)

  No, * Satellite C670-199 * is not equipped with a BT module.

  I just got a macbook the other day, the mac was pretty easy to understand how to set up for file sharing. It is installed on my pc and that you can view the files mac very well. However, I can't the PC to share files on mac to save my life. I didn't actually work earlier pretty ok, just read a comment online, but then the mac has had a problem with a hard drive so they just replaced with a new computer. I had the same model. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. As he asked a username and password for my PC to connect and view files (so I thought a lot of outside). I entered the same username and password for PC information, I entered earlier (several times), and it wouldn't work. I tried to enter my information to connect PC and it wouldn't work. I tried implementing new user names to add to the permissions and it would not work to connect on the mac. I tried to disable the password protection all together on pc and it still does not either. I know I entered the data correctly, I tried to work 3-4 hours... I'm a little confused, because it worked pretty quickly earlier and I did the same thing.
  What can I do? I'm doing something wrong? Any help that anyone can give is GREATLY, GREATLY appreciated! Thank you!!! :)

  I was gifted a laptop with Vista 64-bit Home Premium installed. I consider upgrading this computer and perhaps a few XP computers I own, to Windows 7. So far after the fact, it is very difficult to find new copies of sale retail of Windows 7 professional home although the OEM versions seem to be easily available.

  My questions: 1) versions OEM usable for upgrades or only for a facility 'clean '?

  (2) the full retail version can be installed on multiple computers? I've seen comments online indicating that you get three licensed facilities, and other reviews say just 1, as with the OEM software.

  I'd appreciate certainly any confirmation or comment.

  Each computer must be licensed separately.

  No, the key that can be used with 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 is exclusively for use with the disc 1. You cannot use install both. 1 license, 1 installation, so choose wisely. If you want to install Windows 7 32 or 64 bit on another partition or another computer, you must purchase an additional license.

  There is no way to upgrade to Windows XP, you must perform a custom installation.
