VCenter Lab Manager 4.1 Linked mode

Hello

What is someone using a vCenter Lab Manager 4 configured in bound mode?  I would like to activate the connected mode, searching for traps that everyone can share.

Thanks in advance

No traps.  Bound Mode is independent of Lab Manager.

Please be aware, Lab Manager works with exactly a vCenter and a data center object inside this vCenter.

So once you activate the bound mode, you won't see all the resources here.

  • VCenter Lab Manager dedicated?

Do you need a dedicated server vCenter for use of Lab Manager or can you use an existing and create a separate data center for Lab Manager hosts?

No, you do not have a separate vCenter Lab Manager - you can create a new separate data center or even a distinct group within a datacenter exisintg -.

  • vCenter Lab Manager 4.0.4 5?

I know that there is no support for Lab Manager 4.0.4 and vCenter 5, but it's going to work? Or when it will be supported? I see no reason why there would be a problem if I leave my host ESX 4.1 cluster.

    Has anyone tried this before?

vCenter 5 + Lab Manager 4.0.4 won't work.  There, questions that I saw people who did the upgrade without checking compatibility.  Since Lab Manager is abandoned, I'm not expecting a major update to support vCenter 5.0.

One option is to divide it into 2 environments... 1 specially for vCenter to LabManager and then a 2nd which will vCenter 5 which is a new installation you can grow out.

  • Create virtual machines in a cluster with vCenter Lab Manager?

Hi, I will be putting in place of Lab Manager in the near future.  I already have virtual machines in the vsphere cluster I want to start dealing with Lab manager. Should I remove these virtual machines before the implementation of labmanger?  I'll still be able to create and host virtual machines outside the sottware to labmanger, on the hosts in the cluster of Lab Manager?

    Thanks for the help

    Raymond Golden

    VCP3, VCP4, MCSA,Net, was DRY.

Yes, you can certainly mix "regular" VM and VM Lab Manager in the same cluster.  Just Lab Manager server knows nothing about the virtual machines created in vCenter.

You could also separate them from resource pools... Director of the laboratory can be assigned to just use a pool of resources rather than the entire cluster.

  • Move a Lab Manager in vCenter only

I'm trying to migrate all the VMS in vCenter Lab Manager for. During a tutorial another engineer was asked if he could come back a vm Lab Manager troublesome to vCenter. Despite most machines Virtual Lab Manager being linked clones, the move is simple by exporting the virtual machine of vCenter or install a stand-alone client on the virtual machine? The virtual machine being a linked clone done this more complicated process?

You should have no problems to export the VM in Vcenter.  Completeness of the tree for this virtual machine will be exported.

  • Configuration Lab Manager - error: not supported operating system

I try to install vCenter Lab Manager 4.0.4.1406 but I get error: unsupported on OS when I run the Setup file.

It is Windows Server 2008 R2 x 64 on an ESXi 5.0 machine.

IIS and the .net Framework 4.0 is installed.

    Uninstalled AD.

Looks like all the system requirements are met, but I am still getting the same error (and no more detailed error message then not supported operating system)

I don "t think that Windows 2008 R2 is supported for Lab Manager server, only Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 are mentioned in the Manual of Installation.

For guests, it has made experimental support for Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2.

  • Relationship of Lab Manager and vSphere

My shop starts to think about his Lab Manager architecture design, and we have some questions about the relationship between vSphere and Lab Manager.

    (1) can Lab Manager leverage of resources defined outside its host vSphere environment?

    (2) must LM be hosted in a specific vSphere environment to effectively exploit the scene-to-production in this environment vSphere features?  In other words, what is the impact to the staging functionality when you move a virtual machine from a workspace of LM to a VSphere environment that does not host the environment of LM?

The reason we ask is because we already have production environment vSphere, and we plan to install vCenter Lab Manager within this environment or install LM in a separate vSphere environment.

    Thank you.

    Tim

    (1) the laboratory director can leverage resources defined outside its host vSphere environment?

All used 'resources' must be inside a vCenter server, and all objects must be contained within a single "Data center" object in the hierarchy.

    > LM (2) done must be hosted in a specific vSphere environment to effectively exploit the scene-to-production in this environment vSphere features? In other words, what is the impact to the staging functionality when you move a virtual machine from a workspace of LM to a VSphere environment that does not host the environment of LM?

If the vCenter for production is not the same as Lab Manager, you must export the Configuration of LM in an SMB share (requires a classic ESX host in the middle of LM), and then import it to the appropriate location.

I did not notice problems with Lab Manager VMs-by-side with use of regular production.  Just separate the ESX hosts in a dedicated Cluster or a Pool of resources.

  • creating virtual machines off templates in Lab Manager

    Hello

I am using vCenter Lab Manager 4.0.

I have created several models of machine virtual Windows.

Now, I would like to create virtual machines on these models.

Am I able to do it. ?

If so, how can I achieve that. ?

I checked in the guide, but found no relevant info.

    Maybe I'm missing something.

    Please provide help. !!

    Thank you.

    Santos,

First of all, make sure that the model is published.  Means published which are can be used as a virtual machine in the current organization.  If you need to use it in another, make sure you share the model to the user / the appropriate organization.

    2. go into your workspace: workspaces > hand

    3. click on the button "new Configuraiton.

    -Add virtual machines

    -Click OK

    4 deploy the configuration.

    Kind regards

  • Lab Manager acceleration kits / required licenses?

    Hello!

We are currently using ESXi and plan to move to centralized test Lab Manager lab. The estimates are based on the acceleration kit that used to be available at about 4-5 k €, which seemed to include VI 3 licenses that are required for the Lab Manager to run on top of ESXi (or if whatever the basis ESXi does not support).

Now I can't find the acceleration kits more 'Buy Lab Manager', instead I find licenses for Lab Manager only.

Now I read everywhere that the vCenter is necessary and even messages that describe that vCenter foundation is not sufficient to run the laboratory Manager. However no official 'that's what you need to do if you want to get Lab Manager' running.

To be honest, if the acceleration kits were gone for good, licensing begins to be as clear as some States large company in their regulatory policy, "must be this version of the database server", but do not worry to mention what license you need for the said server or background Windows server...

I would like to know the price of 'minimum' (to continue) Lab Manager on top of bare metal, start-up costs and maintenance renewals when the initial support runs.

With regard to reading, 2 or 4 processors as it seems to count.

    BR,

    Kalle

Sorry, that seems so difficult.  To sort through all of this:

    • Lab Manager requires ESX Standard or Enterprise.  It does not currently run on ESXi, but it's on the Roadmap (cannot discuss dates here).

    • Lab Manager 3 requires vCenter (Lab Manager 2 does not work).

    • vCenter Foundation is untested, but should work (but can only manage up to 3 knots).

    • ESX Foundation is not supported by the Lab Manager.

    • The laboratory director is authorized by the node (the server Lab Manager is free).

    • Lab Manager Server runs on Windows Server 2003 and can run on a virtual machine

    • VirtualCenter runs on Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, or Windows Server 2003 and can also run on a virtual machine.

    Thus, the minimum subscription is:

    • ESX Standard for two processors

    • Lab Manager for two processors

    • vCenter Foundation

    • Windows licenses you need for the Lab Manager server and VirtualCenter Management Server.

Installing vCenter Management Server and server Lab Manager on the two virtual machines on this host ESX and use their local drive to store the virtual computer images.

Such a system doesn't scale well, of course.  When you size, you will need to add the following:

    • Shared storage (NFS, iSCSI, or FC)

    • More ESX and Lab Manager licenses

    • vCenter Standard or Premium, instead of Foundation.

    Hope this helps,

    Steven

  • vCenter Server Linked Mode or not?

    Hello

I had the following scenario: I have an existing with 8 physical ESX host Esx environment and virtualized 1 vCenter server for all direction and 1 Cluster. Now (for Oracle license costs) my company advised me to create a second group of Esx with 4 physical ESX host.

My question is related to the vCenter for the management of the two clusters. It is recommended to install a second vCenter Server for the Oracle VM Cluster and server vCenter link the two together (linked modes) or let them operate separately or use only 1 vCenter Server for the management of the cluster 2?

In your opinion, what are the ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES?

    Thank you!

Just bound mode will not give you solution Dr. bound Mode is used when there are two vcenters and they are linked together to achieve centralized management. It will all show you the inventory in both the vCenters. The first vcenter will both his and 2nd vCenters inventory and the second will have its own and inventory of 1.

But using a UNIQUE multi-site authentication users/permissions will be replicated and since you have the replication table both of them should work together and give you DR.

  • How to clean an installation Vcenter 5.5 missed a second server vCenter linked mode

    Hello

    First of all, my situation:

I managed to install the following services on a single box:

vCenter Single Sign-On (Vcenter Single Sign-on to your first server vCenter Server)

    vSphere Web Client

    vCenter Inventory Service

    vCenter Server

The first properly installed vCenter (SRMVC.test.local).

I then ran the installation on the second vCenter server (SRMVCDR.test.local)

vCenter Single Sign-On (vCenter Single Sign-on for an additional vCenter server with a new site)

    vSphere Web Client

    vCenter Inventory Service

vCenter Server (linked modes) * impossible *.

I came across a mistake by joining the vCenter linked mode.  I then tried to force who do not have, and installation cancelled.   I think I am facing this problem described in this KB:

Connecting two servers vCenter fails with the error: error 28039.Setup cannot join vCenter Server group related modes (1026087)

    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2006850

Now, I see a series of problems with the virtual machine that may be the root cause.  When I open the Server Manager there is an error when I try to view the roles or features.   The error I see is:

Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: element not found (except for HRESULT:0 x 80070490)

To make a long story short:

I don't really want to solve the problem on the virtual machine.  I think there could be a problem with the template I've deployed this virtual machine from and I would just blow it way and the redeployment of a new model. The problem is that, in the previous installs, I had trouble to reinstall a second vCenter after a failure to install because different services have already been registered with the first SSO server.

    My question:

How to completely clean all the necessary components on the first server vCenter after a failed install a second server vCenter mode related?  I think that the second server is not only with its own UNIQUE authentication server, but also with the first server in the SSO site located on SRMVC.test.local.  I want to blow any trace of it so that the environment is pristine and so that I can use the same name of the second vcenter (VCSRMDR.test.local) when I reinstall.

If the second vcenter also has its own SSO installed on the same machine and the second SSO has been installed in multisite mode (should be Yes, because the main goal is to related modes), you need a clean to the top of the first SSO vmdrd.

VMware support specific utility to get this done, please file a case for support.

Installing vCenter isn't going to be a problem, each installation has a user ID application created with the date of installation, this ID and certificate (which should be unique for a new installation, disable ssl programdata folders if re - install) are used to record vcenter to OSP.

So the old entries will not be a problem for the other components.

ever since the webclient service, you can remove users from the application:

Log webclient with [email protected] the first web client.

Under setting up users and groups, under the users Application tab, you can see all the application registered users.

To identify that one to remove

for vcenter, check the file C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\ssoregtool\vssso.properties.

Once you know the job vcenter ID, you can delete the ID of the other.

Ditto for the inventory service, the inventory service ID can be found in C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Inventory Service\conf\sso.ini

For webclient files is C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphereWebClient\SsoRegTool\sso_conf\solution.ini

vCenter and webclient has a user record solution with sso, which must be removed from the command line. This is the KB for this: 2033238

again, you can use the above mentioned files to identify the one to delete.

  • vCenter linked mode SSO

    Hello

I am trying to understand the SSO with related modes works

Today I have a vCenter installed with SSO installed as a base and. Now, I implement SRM here and after I install the second vCenter as base too much on the other site and try to create a linked mode an error pops up

in ID incompatibility or something like that. I read that multisite is necessary to deploy related modes.

How can I configure related here, but the problem is that I can't change the basic deployment in the first vcenter because it uses Nexus 1000V is a complex configuration for me.

I can reinstall the second vCenter because nothing is yet set in.

    Thank you

Unfortunately because you have it installed as a base, there is no way to install SSO multisite.

    According to the documentation

"Server vCenter linked mode instances can be connected to different physical servers of Single Sign-On, but must be connected to a single Single Sign-On logical server. An only Single Sign-On logical server can be one of the following forms. »

With 2 sets of basic mode, they are 2 physical and 2 logical SSO server.

What should have been done is the first vCenter install SSO on the first node of a multisite SSO and when the second gets installed you create a UNIQUE authentication server separate but accede to the first node. Logically, this will be a single instance SSO so now both servers can be managed from a single web client and can be regulated in bound mode.
