vCenter Server 5.5 silent installation problem

Our requirement is, vCenter Server 5.5 must be installed in silent mode with its default SQL express database.

To do this, I am referring http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/vcenter_server_cmdline_install.pdf documentation.

I am able to do a silent install of SSO and the inventory of service components, but stuck to a vCenter Server silent installation. On the command line, I performed following command to install the vCenter Server. This command should install vCenter Server in silent mode, but it is prompting you to press the next button to continue.

< snip >

echo 'Get hostname of the system '.

< / snip >

On the command line, it is yet to complete the entire order with all the arguments. On the command line after order is printed with 2 rest arguments are ignored.

C:\Install > start/wait D:\vCenter-Server\VMware-vcserver.exe/s/w/L1033 /v "/ QR/quiet VCS_GROUP_TYPE = single VPX_ACCOUNT_TYPE = System.

< / snip >

Need to know,

1. How can I perform this installation in silent mode?

2. is there a any error in my command arguments?

The 'start' command expects the first agument in quotes for the title. Try

Start "vCenter Server Installation" / wait "D:\vCenter-Server\VMware-vcserver.exe" / s...

  • Impossible to connect to vCenter Server 5.5 using the vSphere Client

    Hello

I'm trying to configure VMware Lab home using the link below and I have reached a stage where I need to connect to vCenter Server using the vSphere client.

    http://boerlowie.WordPress.com/2011/12/13/building-the-ultimate-vSphere-lab-part-9-ESXi/

I installed the package of 5.5 full vCenter server using the simple installation option and it includes vCenter server, single sign - on, Webclient vSphere, vCenter server and vCenter Server inventory service. All the the latter is installed on a virtual machine that is running Windows server 2008 R2 guest OS.

Whenever I try to open a session on the vCenter Server uses the vSphere client, one of the following error is displayed.

    1. you do not have the permissions to connect to the server 'vCenter server IP address.

    2. cannot complete the connection incorrect username or password-, this error is visible when I do not specify domain\username domain user name and simply enter the user name.

For the details of the error, please see the screenshots - vSphere_client_1, vSphere_client_2 and vSphere_client_3.

As suggested in the link below, I tried to create an SPN and then set the SPN (Principal of Service name) and the UPN (User Principal name) in the Active Directory identity Source using the web of vSphere client (please see screenshot vSphere_Webclient_2)

    http://vinfrastructure.it/2014/01/issue-in-logging-into-vCenter-server-using-Windows-ad-credentials/

To fix the permission error, I tried to add the domain user to the Administrators group on the server vCenter (see screenshot vSphere_Webclient_1).

However, none of the above-mentioned resolution has worked.

So can someone please help? I am stuck because of this problem and badly need help to move forward.

    Thank you

    AJMAL

Able to connect to the vSphere Client do you use the [email protected] account?

Have you already set up permissions on the server vCenter object?

  • VSphere Web client and client heavy cannot connect to Vcenter server 5.5, web client fails with 2032 error before the connection, then the work after one minutes ferw.

    Hi all

I really need help here.  I have a new installation of Esxi5.5 and installed the server vcenter build 5.5.0.5201 device 1476389.

I have host files properly configured for DNS and Server 2008 R2 running that I use to connect with the client or web client heavy.

Initially, I get an error with the web client to connect, he began to paint Vmware and when it comes to 'r' in the name it fails with #2032, so I can no longer

access the page at all, he says: connection refused for the page. If I wait a while I can connect again.

heavy client vSphere fails at this time as well.  However, I cannot communicate directly with Vsphere client to server esxi host and it works all the time.

There seems to be a problem with the device of vcenter server because the thick client fails, and does not open a backup program using vcenter server

    inventory when this happened.

Please help, it drives me crazy...

    Dan

    Hello

Since I found the solution to the problem of connecting to the device of vcenter.  It is a conflict of IP address on the network.  There was a machine with the same IP address virtuall

as the vcenter server.  This caused intermittent problems etc.. Why web client would still work if I have the vmware client open I do not know

so thank you for your help.

  • VCenter server restart - can I just it reboot?

My SAN works somehow, but I can't access my client vsphere vcenter server through.the.  I get the error: an unknown connection error has occurred, (the request has failed because of a logon failure.  Also, I can not connect via veeam.  Everything else seems to work fine.  VCenter is a virtual machine in my SAN environment.  Can - I just restart the vcenter Server?  Or should I stop all the rest down before doing this?

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Welcome to the community,

the virtual machines running on the host computers are not vcenter Server, and at least that actions such as migration, backups or other things are underway which require vCenter Server, you should have no problem restarting it.

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server to vCenter Server 5.1 5.1 update 1 when the SQL database is remote and vCenter Server Heartbeat is installed

    Hi guys,.

I'm in the middle of an upgrade to vSphere 5.1 5.1 vSphere update 1. I have vCenter protected by HB and SQL on a separate computer (also protected by HB) I also run Syslog, Update Manager and Proxy authentication on vCenter.

I've successfully upgraded HB on all 4 nodes (2 x vCenter & 2 x SQL) and started the upgrade components on the secondary according to the •vCenter Server Heartbeat 6.5 server and vCenter Update 1 Installation on Windows Server 2008 when the secondary server is virtual (PDF) http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vcenter-server-heartbeat-65-u1-installation-windows-2008-virtual-guide.pdf

    I got to step 3.c

    3. change the primary/active server role:

a launch of the vCenter Server Heartbeat wizard configure server and click the tab of the Machine to change the server role for the current server (primary) to the active State and click Finish.

b using the Service Control Manager, start the Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter service.

c using the vCenter Server Heartbeat Console, check that all the status icons on the server: summary page are green indicating that the boot process is completed and protected from all the services are started.

d using the Service Control Manager, stop the service Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter.

As the vCenter service does not start, I'm stuck at this point. As far as I'm concerned, the error is quite logical. I've updated vCenter using the secondary server, and then I'm trying to connect (according to the guide) with another version that breaks down.

If I continue with the services stop and launch the installer SSO, it is trying to perform an uninstall!

Did I miss something in this upgrade?

Hi guys, VMware have finally updated the documentation to reflect the right way forward: https://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/heartbeat_pubs.html U1 6.5 Select from the menu drop-down and you'll see the last date of update for each of the documentation is now 10/10/2013. The guide States now specifically to restore the vCenter database before proceeding with any other measure, this is copied below for convenience: "the upgrade of the main server of the upgrade process further guess upgrading the secondary server completed successfully. Procedure 1 before continuing the upgrade process, perform a restore of the database of vCenter Server, Single Sign-On database, VMware Update Manager database and SSL certificates that were backed up in step 4 on the secondary server. regards Ciaran

  • VCenter Server 4.1 4.1 U1 or U2 update

    Hello friends

We have a customer who has a VCenter Server 4.1 build 258902 whitch I'm trying to update to U2

First of all, I tried to go directly to U2 and it is not said that it will update now. It only gives me two options. Uninstall or connected mode.

[URL =http://www.pic-upload.de/view-15822032/esxu2.jpg.html] [IMG] http://WWW10.PIC-upload.de/30.08.12/wicwc1sar5n8.jpg [Line] [url]

So I thought that I must update to U1 and the second step updated for U2.

But no man luck. When I started the wizard from the cd of U1, I get this message:

[URL =http://www.pic-upload.de/view-15822030/esxu1-1.jpg.html] [IMG] http://WWW7.PIC-upload.de/30.08.12/xdd1fci4r4d.jpg [Line] [url]

It is the German text. So I tried to start the wizard by using English language, but this is not word.

The transaltion would be something like: the installer will now start the update, you want to start?

When I click Yes, you'll see this message:

[URL =http://www.pic-upload.de/view-15822088/esxu1-2.jpg.html] [IMG] http://WWW10.PIC-upload.de/30.08.12/7btwj7yz3gt6.jpg [Line] [url]

The translatio is: there is already a newer version installed. Setup cannot continue here.

I was not shure if perhaps the customer shows me only the incorrect version number. So I tried to run the command vpxd on the vcenter:

    It's return code: VMware VirtualCenter 4.1.0 build-258902

now, I guess so that someone has tried already to update the Vcenter server and then the installation failed. So I think that the SQL database is changed with the 4.1 schema u2 but the vcenter has even the old binary oder back.

but the customer is saing than ever, he tried to install something on the server.

What is the best way to update the server now? Is there a way to clean up the database installation oder?

VCenter Server is a physical server. There is therefore no way to make a snapshot of the server for the things of sorts.

Here are some details of the server and database:

    Windows Server 2008 sp2

    HP proliant 380 g6

    12 GB of ram

    SQL server 2005 64

I hope someone can help pe

I can't really tell you what is the cause. Anyway, you can consider installing the update 3 that has just been published.

I'm installing vCenter Server 5.5. I have already created database users and roles MSSQL with permissions, using scripts to the installation directory.

  • Silently installation of Oracle Database 12 c on Ubuntu 14.04. Server

    Hello everyone,

I try to install the Oracle database 12 c on a headless Ubuntu 14.04 server, using the silent mode of the Oracle Universal Installer with a response file (see attachment). As this Linux distribution does not seem to be officially supported, I followed the instructions, I found in this tutorial, http://tutorialforlinux.com/2014/10/01/how-to-install-oracle-12c-database-for-ubuntu-14-04-trusty-lts-64bit-linux-easy-guide/and was able to install the database software. During installation, as described in the tutorial, I have to change some files makefile in the target installation directory, then click on 'Retry' to continue the installation. Because I need to perform a silent installation, the "Retry" button does not appear and the Installer continues just to complete the installation with the promising message "Oracle 12 c database installation has succeeded.", despite several mistakes of links that I find in the log files. So, I make the suggested changes makefile after installation and retrigger the binding process manually (called "repeat all"), which looks after all ends correctly that I can now run "sqlplus" etc. In addition, I ran the script of post-installation (one of them as a root user), as requested by the installer.

However, now I find the system without a data base of departure, even though I have it set up in the answer file that I gave to the Oracle Universal Installer. Without doubt, routines important installation required for the configuration of the database have been ignored by the errors of liaison took place. To be complete, they are linking errors I find in the configuration log file (and that I solved it by changing the files makefile and running 'repeat all' after installation):

    Error in invoking target 'all_no_orcl' of makefile ' / home/oracle/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk'. [...]

Error invoking the "utilities" in the makefile target ' / home/oracle/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk'. [...]

Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile ' / home/oracle/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1/network/lib/ins_net_server.mk'. [...]

Error in invoking target 'irman ioracle' of makefile ' / home/oracle/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk'. [...]

Can I rerun the Universal Oracle install from the point where the binding process has failed, i.e., without crushing the makefile changes that I had to perform in the oracle home directory?

Or is there a way to tell the silent installer to suspend Setup error (giving me the opportunity to resolve the problem immediately) and delivers a 'Retry' to continue the installation from there?

For development purposes, I need a database of startup clean and fully configured, including pre-installed packages (especially Oracle Spatial).

Thank you very much for your suggestions!

Thank you for your answers, I now get a solution to the problem.

@12cdb: RPM Installation was not an option because it is not recommended on Ubuntu.

@Srini Vernon-Oracle: I am aware that a Ubuntu system is not an environment supported for installation of database Oracle, as mentioned in my question. There are reasons why the passage to another distribution is not an option in my setup, that's why I asked for advice.

    The solution is the following:

-Install the database in "Software only" mode (silent, using a response file).

-Fix the linker errors as described in the tutorial.

    -Recreate a link.

S ' ensure that the kernel is properly configured as described on this page: http://docs.oracle.com/database/121/LADBI/app_manual.htm#LADBI7866

-Use "dbca" silently with a response file to create the database.

  • VCenter Unattended Installation - problems INSTALLDIR

I have been using the published PDF which gives powerful assistance vCenter unattended installs the server: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/vcenter_server_cmdline_install.pdf

I have this job for the most part, but a part does not work, and I think I have nailed to the INSTALLDIR switch for the individual MSI files.

For example, this command does not work (it does appear the msi help window):

    $arguments = ' / QR ADMINPASSWORD = "+ $SSOpasswd + 'DEPLOYMODE = FIRSTDOMAIN SSO_SITE =' + $SSOsite +" INSTALLDIR = "+ $InstallDIR / l * v D:\VCS-INSTALL-LOGS\ssoinstall.log'"

    Start-Process - FilePath "D:\Installs\vCS\VMware-SSO-Service.msi" - ArgumentList $arguments

However, simply removing the switch INSTALLDIR allows for installation to occur, for example

    ' $arguments = ' / QR ADMINPASSWORD = "+ $SSOpasswd + 'DEPLOYMODE = FIRSTDOMAIN SSO_SITE =' + $SSOsite +" / l * v D:\VCS-INSTALL-LOGS\ssoinstall.log.

    Start-Process - FilePath "D:\Installs\vCS\VMware-SSO-Service.msi" - ArgumentList $arguments

The PDF to think that this option is available.  In addition, I tested the switch in place without spaces and without quotation marks, so it doesn't seem to be a character double-quotes/exhaust problem. I am also using quotes and characters for passwords exhaust etc so do that...

I've confirmed that this is a problem (for me at least) to:

    SSO

    Web client

    The inventory service

    vCenter Server

    Dump of the ESXi Collector

    Syslog Collector

    Any ideas?

I try this using vCenter Server 5.5 Update 2 installation on server 2012 R2 using PowerShell (4).

    Thank you

    Tom

For the moment that it is:

    $InstallDIR = "D:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure".

    Note:

    1. I also tried with an escape with double quote character in the variable argument (according to the PDF in my original post):

    $exe = "$VCmedia\Single Sign-On\VMware-SSO - Server.msi".

    $myargs = ' / QR ADMINPASSWORD = "+ $SSOpasswd + 'DEPLOYMODE = FIRSTDOMAIN SSO_SITE =' + $SSOsite + ' INSTALLDIR =------"' + $InstallDIR + ""-""

    2. I also tried with the escape character (') - same result PowerShell:

    $exe = "$VCmedia\Single Sign-On\VMware-SSO - Server.msi".

    ' $myargs = ' / QR ADMINPASSWORD = "+ $SSOpasswd + 'DEPLOYMODE = FIRSTDOMAIN SSO_SITE =' + $SSOsite +" INSTALLDIR = ""' + $InstallDIR + "" '

    3. I also tried with a path that has no spaces - this works:

    $exe = "$VCmedia\Single Sign-On\VMware-SSO - Server.msi".

    $myargs = ' / QR ADMINPASSWORD = "+ $SSOpasswd + 'DEPLOYMODE = FIRSTDOMAIN SSO_SITE =' + $SSOsite +" INSTALLDIR = D:\VMware'

So, who does not point to a problem with spaces/quotes - but I don't know what I'm doing wrong...

I've added a line if it looks like this now:

    $exe = "$VCmedia\Single Sign-On\VMware-SSO - Server.msi".

    ' $myargs = ' / QR ADMINPASSWORD = "+ $SSOpasswd + 'DEPLOYMODE = FIRSTDOMAIN SSO_SITE =' + $SSOsite +" INSTALLDIR = ""' + $InstallDIR + "" '

    $myargs = $myargs + "" / l * v D:\VCS-INSTALL-LOGS\ssoinstall.log ""

    Write-Host "command: Start-Process $exe $myargs - wait."

    Start-process $exe $myargs - wait

The output from the Write-Host shows this:

    Command: Start-Process D:\INSTALLS\vCS\\Single signe-On\VMware-SSO-Server.msi/qr ADMINPASSWORD = Hello! 2 DEPLOYMODE = FIRSTDOMAIN SSO_SITE = VCS - SSO INSTALLDIR = "" D:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure "" / l * v D:\VCS-INSTALL-LOGS\ssoinstall.log-attendre "

The escape character is still there - suggesting that I do not understand how to use it!  I just removed the script and it works, so the controls are now:

    $exe = "$VCmedia\Single Sign-On\VMware-SSO - Server.msi".

    $myargs = ' / QR ADMINPASSWORD = "+ $SSOpasswd + 'DEPLOYMODE = FIRSTDOMAIN SSO_SITE =' + $SSOsite +" INSTALLDIR = "" ' + $InstallDIR + ' "'"

    $myargs = $myargs + "" / l * v D:\VCS-INSTALL-LOGS\ssoinstall.log ""

    Write-Host "command: Start-Process $exe $myargs - wait."

    Start-process $exe $myargs - wait

    Write-Host now says:

    Command: Panel Start-Process D:\INSTALLS\vCS\\Single-On\VMware-SSO-Server.msi/qr ADMINPASSWORD = Hello! 2 DEPLOYMODE = FIRSTDOMAIN SSO_SITE = VCS - SSO INSTALLDIR = "D:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure" / l * v D:\VCS-INSTALL-LOGS\ssoinstall.log-attendre

Personally, I'm surprised that it works, but it's cool, I'm still learning - I'll try and look a little more information about quotes, spaces and the behavior of the variables when it is passed to a cmdlet.

  • Having problems setting up a 5.5 vCenter Server VM in a domain configuration...

I'm trying to implement a vCenter Server VM (new installation, no upgrade) without an Active Directory domain that is available.  I was able to do this successfully in the past with 5.0 and 5.1, but now with 5.5 I have problems.

Installing SSO works fine and displays warnings expected that the server is not on a domain and the certificate will be bound to the INVESTIGATION period.

When I then try to run Setup from the inventory Service, it fails when you try to connect to the SSO:

"Could not connect to vCenter Single Sign On.  Make sure that the Search Service URL points correctly to the vCenter Single Sign On the instance that you installed.  If vCenter Single Sign-On is installed with an IP address, make sure that the IP address is specified in the URL.

5.0 and 5.1, in order to get this installation runs correctly, I would like to enter the IP address in the URL (as it says in the error), and he'd be fine.  So the address provided for the Research Service URL is https://< ip_address >: 7444/lookupservice/sdk

I tried several variants for the fields of FULL domain name and URL of the Service search without success.

Can someone confirm a successful for 5.5 off-field installation?  And if so, try to direct me in the right direction?

I end up doing work, it turned out to be an order of operations issue.

I tried to install SSO, then service inventory, then Web Service, then vcenter Server.  And on a domain, this order actually worked well.  For some reason any, when not on a domain, they must go SSO-> Web Service-> Service-> vCenter Server inventory (this command works in both scenarios, just to be clear).
