  • Adding HA or vMotion to vCenter Server Foundation

I bought vCenter Server Foundation and I would like to add HA and perhaps vMotion.  Where is the pricing model for this anywhere on the web or the vmware.com website.  I looked for hours and can't seem to find it anywhere.  It is even possible to make a map like this module?

OK, after speaking with a representative from VMware, I think that I finally understand it now.

The server vCenter Foundation will allow me to create my cluster of 2 guests (max 3).

Each ESXi host must be licensed, BUT you can use the free license for 60 days, indefinitely, with HA and vMotion work, as long as renew you it every 60 days manually.

    OR

You can ignore the manual free renewal of licenses and buy licenses, so you never have to worry about this.

Now I know why it's so confusing - VMware wants to make money from those who buy licenses, rather than do it for free every 60 days.  If what I wrote above was written ANYWHERE on the VMware website, I knew exactly what to do without losing, literally, 3 - 4 days scouring the internet in search of the answer.

  • VMware vCenter Server Foundation supports 5 reviews?

VMware vCenter Server Foundation supports 5 reviews?

Yes the vCenter Foundation supports view5.

Here is the difference between vCenter foundation and standard vCenter.

    VCenter Foundation: -.

One instance of vCenter Foundation will support for smaller environments (up to 3 hosts vSphere). With the features that has with vSphere (ESXi5) license as standard, Enterprise & Enterprise +.

    vCenter Standard: -.

Manages large-scale deployments of VMware vSphere (+ t0 1000 VMware ESX).

Apart from the above, both are fully included for the license and ESXI (standard, Enterprise & Enterprise +).

Check out the link for the difference in features between these editions below.

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server Foundation to the standard

I'm running vCenter Server Foundation and have reached the limit of 3 host. I bought the upgrade of Foundation to the standard, but I'm just curious as to what the upgrade process that is my license, so no downtime / a reconfiguration is required. Sorry if this has been answered many, I want just to get an idea of what I have to do once our license arrives.

    Thank you!

Simply place the .lic file in the folder of licenses from the license server.  Launch of LM, then click Reread License File and it will go look for him.

You don't need to replace the existing one that is there, just put another one there and it will merge the two files in the License Manager.

  • Compatibility of VMware vCenter Server 4 Foundation to vSphere with ESX 3 Standard VI

We are already use VMware ESX Server 3.5 VI.

    Our intention is to buy VMware vCenter Server 4 Foundation for vSphere addition VI ESX 3.5 Server running on a separate server. Our concern is;

    1. is VMware vCenter Server 4 Foundation for backward compatible product vSphere with VMware ESX Server 3.5?

2 If no, then is it a similar product of VMware, which is compatible with VMware ESX Server 3.5?

    Please notify.

VMware vCenter Server Foundation 4.0 can handle up to 3 vSphere or legacy hosts.  If you need to manage more than 3 guests, you should definitely consider vCenter Server Standard edition.

  • vCops on another server vCenter Server

    Hello

It is possible and feasible too running on another server vCenter Server Foundation vCops and point it to one you want to listen to? We have vCenter servers in our environment, but I want to follow the one who is widely used, but want to install vCops on the environment of vCenter which use less. This is a possible solution and environments are connected over a WAN via Tunnel PTP.

    Hello

In my view, there no problem on the vCops tip to an another vCenter. Just make sure on the network connectivity and vCenter should be accessible via the network.

Also you can read the document deployment vCops on this topic.

  • vCenter Server (version 4) pricing and license

    Hello

I am preparing a quote for two vSphere ESX v4 and a vCenter server.

We need to VMotion and Drs So I think we need at least Enterprise edition (or higher) on the ESX section.

As for vCenter, I was wondering if I can use vCenter Server for Essentials ($995) bundle, or do I have to get vCenter Server Foundation ($1495)?

If I go with Essentials, I get the standard edition of ESX and vCenter Server at a lower cost than vCenter Server Foundation.  Allows to manage vCenter in Essentials Enterprise edition ESX?

Opportunities for savings are welcome.  Thank you.

    Kong

    Kong Hi!

1 vCenter Essentials server cannot do VMotion or DRS.

    Yes.

2 vCenter Foundation can do VMotion and DRS (the difference between the Foundation and regular is the limitation of 3 ESX host).

    Yes.

    3. If the 3rd ESX is necessary on the road, is "accélération Kit" might be cheaper.

There is no Enterprise Acceleration Kit, only Enterprise Plus, compare quotes for EntPlus Kit vs 3 Ent + vCenter

  • (3) maximum number of hosts allowed for this edition of vCenter Server has been reached.

The following error message appears in my events of vCenter server every minute or so:

"(3) maximum number of hosts allowed for this edition of vCenter Server has been reached.

I have a license of vCenter Server Foundation (4.0) with three hosts. I am aware that this license only supports three hosts. Why vCenter should log an error every minute to tell me that? Can I have it also ignored it clutter visually the events list?

And to meet me once again, VMware has just contacted me and he was recorded as a bug and will be fixed in update 1 when coming out.

  • Can I use Lab Manager with VirtualCenter Server Foundation

Hi, now I'm choosing the license type for my gateway.

Regarding now I can't manage through Virtual Center more than 3 knots.

But I have a question. Can I use VirtualCenter Server Foundation License with VMware Lab Manager 3.0?

You can use vCenter Server Foundation with PF3. We currently have 3 standard ESX licenses and a vCenter Server Foundation and it works very well. The only limitation is that you cannot manage more than 3 guests, but in your case it does not appear that it will be a problem.

  • VMware vCenter Server Standard and editions of the Foundation

I was wondering if someone could give advice on the differences between these two products, my understanding of the difference, is that the latter allows to order more than 3 guests. I wanted to really know was that (cool) features as rebilling and extended control applications that they appear in both versions or did I miss something...

    Thank you

    Hello

vCenter Appspeed and vCenter Chargeback are not included with standard vcenter or Foundation. You buy the Foundation or standard vcenter and then buy you the appspeed or chargeback.

  • The upgrade to vCenter 5 foundation

    Hello, everyone!

I have several questions about upgrading to vCenter 5 foundation:

    (1) is editing Foundation vCenter is frowned upon in vSphere 6?

    (2) If a client vCenter Foundation 5 license and valid SnS, can it move its vCenter server to vCenter 6 Foundation?

    (3) if the customer has vCenter Foundation 5 license and SnS validates that lisenses must purchase for upgrade to vsphere 6?

Please take a look at VMware KB: law Mapping for vSphere and vCenter Server which contains the official answer to your questions.

  • How many editions for vCenter Server?

We use ESX for many years.  When we upgrade the server VC, we find that the license is "vCenter Server 4 Stanadard".

We wonder if there is any other editions of vCenter Server 4?  I searched the web but can't find any other edition.

    Your opinion is requested.

There is also a vCenter Foundation, that allows to manage up to 3 guests.
