VDP is packaged in vSphere 5?

I have the vSphere standard license 5. POS comes bundled with it or I have to buy a separate license for this?

We are vCenter 4.1 to 5.5 migration. As 5.5 does not support the VDR, I intend to use the VDP. However, some of our guests be on 4.1 and some will be on 5.5. PDV does 4.1?

WTP is supplied with vSphere Essentials Plus or higher, see: https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2016565

And for VDP compatibility with vSphere 4.1, see: VMware product interoperability Matrices

View eating 5 works with any vSphere 4 or vSphere edition 5, including Enterprise Plus, Enterprise, Standard and Advanced.View Manager works with Essentials and Essentials Plus, but visitors may not exceed the restrictions on the number of hosts associated with these packages of vSphere. View Manager is running

the vSphere VMware and not on other platforms of the hypervisor platform only. vShield Endpoint works with view 4.5 and 4.1 vSphere, but is not supported by older versions of view or vSphere.

  • VMWare View on VMware vSphere Hypervisor

    Hello

VMWare View can run on VMware vSphere Hypervisor (free version)?

As written, you have vCenter Server and vCenter does not free ESXi...

    There are only two solutions:

    • buy a package of vSphere with vCenter and view ESXi AND the licensing module
    • buy full them see packages that also include the part of vSphere
  • Licensing vCenter and vSphere/installation

I have some difficulty to consolidate the vm for a client versions.

vSphere Essentials Kit includees vCenter Server and Agents for up to 3 guests, but the hosts did not have vMotion/HA

    http://store.VMware.com/store/VMware/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/ProductID.126843700?RESID=TdLD3AoBAlkAAA1YCNoAAAAO & = 1306272327419 rests

vSphere Standard license includes support for vMotion and HA

    http://www.VMware.com/products/vSphere/buy/editions_comparison.html

Can I buy two Standard vSphere licenses and a vSphere Essentials Kit License HA and vMotion? The price including 1 year support package would be $3 430 instead of the vSphere Essentials Plus of a package (for 3 machines) to $4 369

If this is not the case, what makes different product versions? Is it possible for vMotion/HA for only two guests at a lower price?

The answer is no, vSphere Essentials only can be used with the host Essentials license license and may not be used with another license.

The second answer is Yes, use the essential package more vSphere. It includes VMotion and HA.

  • vShield Endpoint 5.5

Currently, my client vSphere 5.5 and is told by the support of license that vShield Endpoint 5.5 is available in Suite vCloud.  Which version is vCenter / vSphere must be on client start using endpoint?  They need to revert to a previous version 5.x?

    Hello

In order to use vShield Endpoint, you must always install POSSIBLE vShield Manager, which you should be able to download as a vSphere client. This download is not with POSSIBLE packages packages of vSphere.

  • Snapshots vs Backup

    Hi guys,.

I am little confused the black and white shots and backup.

    1. If I take a snapshot to a location different .is it a backup of virtual machine?

    2. If I delete the virtual Parent computer... the snapshot won't work?

The answers will be appreciated... Thank you

    Tarun Gupta

    Hello

See below links KB on the best practices of Snapshots and better understand the snapshots

VMware KB: Best practice for snapshots of virtual machine in VMware environment

VMware KB: Understand the clichés of the virtual machine in VMware ESXi and ESX

As explained in the KB Instant are not backups.

Snapshots are not complete copies of the original disk vmdk files.

The take a snapshot does not create a complete copy of the original disk vmdk file, rather it copies only the delta records. The changelog in the snapshot file is combined with the original files from disk to be part of the current state of the virtual machine.

If basic disks are removed, the snapshot files are useless.

Do not use any single for more than 24 to 72 hours snapshot.

You can just clone the virtual machine if you need a backup of that VM, it would be better if you have a backup/protection of data with VDP (vSphere, Data Protection) or any other product from third party for the backup.

What vSphere licenses do you have?

If you have Essentials + and above, you can make free use of VDP

Q: do I need additional licenses to use WTP 5.1?

WTP is supplied with vSphere Essentials more and more.

  • U4 ESXi 4.0 and the command prompt

    Hi all

My apologies if this is a common question or if I'm missing something obvious, but for the life of me I can't understand it.

Build an environment - some ESXi 4.0 U4 and vCenter Server 4 on 2008 R2 hosts. When you generate the hosts I run some local commands on the host (for example, to disable the login Web Access as described page here: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1016039 )

However actually get a command prompt driving me crazy.

ESXi 4.0 has not a console service - that's fine. So I downloaded the remote CLI package of vSphere and installed on my server vCenter. However I can not for the life of me figuire how actually get cela to connect to the host and present a command prompt so that I can actually run (for example, vim - cmd). I have a bin under a load of perl scripts folder (and I actually used vihostupdate.pl to apply an update) and the ESXCLI executable.

Could someone please save what remains of my hair and tell me where I'm wrong? How to access a console to execute commands etc?

I heard I can log on to the local console and enter a console "unsupported", but I am wary of this...

    Thank you

    Chris

  • Should we the DRS and VMotion for tolerance fault? Small cluster host 3

    Hello

I'm slightly confused on some information coming from two different directions. We are in the stages of buying a package of Vsphere Essentials Plus and intend to build a 3 host with shared storage cluster. VSphere essentials plus the package comes with HA which, from my understanding, fail over automatically and restart the virtual machine on the available server. In case of server failure Vmotion or DRS provides something more than HA.

We are told that VMOTION & DRS moves virtual machine of FAILURE to an available server without restarting the virtual machine. I don't know how that's possible, but I wanted to check first with the community.

VSPHERE 4 ESSENTIALS PLUS seems ideal for small host deployments 3 @ $2 600 however, that same lic. for the regular VSPHERE enterprise is $2 800 per CPU that @ 6CPUS is more than $17 K.  Then why should we spend $17 K for business verus a $2 600 essentials more lic for such a small deployment?

    Thank you

    CA

Yes, this is a new feature. http://www.VMware.com/products/fault-tolerance/

It may work on the existing links, but it is recommended to have dedicated interface for FT.

  • 6.1 VDP on vSphere WebClient 6.0 fails to display the status of recent tasks (VICLIENT shows something completely different... real information!)

    Hello

Running vCenter 6.0 and 6.1 VDP and after launching a backup job (via web client vSphere) I can see the beginning of the task, but only using recent tasks of the viclient (IT IS NOT display any status or progress via the web client).  Now what makes this problem, a question is that of the virtual machine, I didn't go to the backup task to create a shapshot.  The ONLY REASON I know this is because recent tasks viclient showing the progress of the task of backup drew my attention to the question.  Even after a refresh several times in the webclient service indicates that the work was done, never completed, or FAILURE under section tasks recent.  Research in the section alarms the web client fails also show no indication that there was an instant failure on one of the backup jobs.  The only way to view the State would look at Console tasks in web client I could also see the work and not a backup but unless you have already searched for failure would not have known you.

It's very relative when VMware push customers to use the web client over and the viclient seems even less we continue losing features.  Has anyone else had this problem with VDP 6.1?  If so is some fix allow some "RECENT TASKS" to actually show the same status in the web client and the viclient (they speak both the same vCenter then why don't they contain the same information?)  Accurate builds I use are the following

    vCenter Server 6.0.0 build 3018524

    POS 6.1.1.19

    ESXi 6.0.0 build 3620759

And before his suggested the race the POS 6.1.2 (latest version), I've tried and that version had problems more large gel and omitting so I use the version seems to be more stable :-)

Not sure that you use the same user used in POS configuration page Try connecting web client with the user used to record POS with vCenter.

  • The downloaded update package cannot be used with vSphere VMware Update Manager

    Hello

I am improving a system of vmware (Vcenter + 3 host) of 5.1 to 5.5

I did a reinstall total Manager Vcenter and updated to version 5.5, using a new database.

Then, I want to update my hosts with Update Manager.

When I download VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 5.5.0 - 1331820.x86_64 in Update Manager, I get the message: cannot use the update package downloaded with vSphere VMware Update Manager

I also tried to import VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 5.1 (Build: 1065491) but I get the same error

In my view, the vmware KB2009812 is not applicable, because I've updated UDM first to 5.5

    Any idea?

    thx a lot

  • vSphere SDK for Perl source package - linux

I'm looking to install vSphere SDK for Perl from source on my linux 64-bit system. The download, I work with is at http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/vcli_perl4_64_os_s/ZHcqYmR0KnBidGR3. Is this correct? This package contains is .so and .pm, and I'm not sure what to do with them. The docs for vSphere SDK for Perl installation insinuate that there should be a Makefile.PL or somesuch. What I am doing wrong?

That link you provided is just the OSS components mobilized by the VI Perl SDK and the vCLI.  It is not a complete installation or the other.

You'll want to use the download link on the home page of this forum for Linux Perl SDK Setup.

Keep in mind, when you say install source, the VMware Perl SDK is just not compiled perl modules.  The rest of the Perl SDK package's dependencies (LibXML, Crypt::SSLeay, Class::MethodMaker, etc.).

You will find the Makefile.PL and some scripts installer in the bits of the package.

  • How to develop the Package vSphere Client plug-ins tool

    To the right,.

Hi, I tried to create a plugin for the CAV, and when I try to package it, my box looks like this:

    plugintool.JPG

Before I came here, I did this:

    contextmenu.jpg

What I am looking for is the following:

    fullplugintool.JPG

Even if this is option, I need to add a file of Java service in my plugin package and as you can see in the first picture, I do not know if the Java service points that I would like to add to the package.

I need help here. I double clicked on the window, tried ways to resize the window by clicking on every corner and try to find the diagonal arrow icon thing, etc.

Thank you for your help in advance if someone answers.

Ah ok!  I missed the cut dialog box image...

It must be because of your system fonts preferences, because all fields are visible with the default fonts.

But even if you can not fix the police you should go ahead and create your plugin with just the Flex project package.  Then you can copy in manually your jar file of service in the \plugins directory that was created.

/ Tools/scripts contains a script package-plugin if you are interested.

Once you become familiar with the environment, you can create your own build scripts tailored to your system.

  • Need help with vSphere data script, packaging and sending it to the data warehouse

    Greetings PowerCLI gurus.

Everyone can offer suggestions on a script which can query vSphere and pull on the following fields of the virtual computer:

    NameStateStatusHostSpace in useSpace used

Format in a file in the CSV format and send the file to an FTP server?

Much respect to all, thanks a lot in advance.

    Hello-

    Happy to help you.

OK, well, if this database is accessible through a UNC path, you might make a copy directly using Copy-Item.  If you use different credentials, you can encrypt and store in an XML file.  HAL Rottenberg wrote to do http://halr9000.com/article/531.

Or, if this pension data is something that supports the secure copy (scp) or secure FTP (SFTP), those who would be good options.  Again, you can store the alternative credentials in an encrypted in an XML file format and use them as needed.

Certainly, there is a balance to be struck between security and ease of use.  It may be such that the transmitted data are not considered sensitive to all, and clear data transfers are acceptable.  Probably still a good idea to take measures to protect the credentials at least.

  • M72KR-Q and vSphere

    Hi all

If someone managed to install VMware vSphere 4.1 on a slide with mezzanine M72KR-Q? I already discovered custom drivers, ESX is really needed, not ESXi.

According to VMware HCL it is supported.

I tried the two set of drivers:

    VMware-ESX-drivers-SCSI-qla2xxx_400.841.K1.16.2-1vmw.2.17.00000.340223.ISO

    VMware-ESX-drivers-SCSI-qla2xxx_400.832.K1.27.1-1vmw.2.17.00000.291979.ISO

None of them works & installing ESX 4.1 generates this error:

    "no network adapters were dedected."

Am I missing something, or it simply does not work?

    Kind regards
    Radek

    Hi Radek,

I have already set up in my lab. I have been using the following:

    -QLogic gen 2 (M72KR-Q)
    -ESX 4.1
    -UCS Firmware 1.4 (1 d)
    -The latest drivers for VMware

The VMware driver package that I used:

    -VMware ESX/ESXi 4.x for QLogic 8100 Series driver CD converges ECS - 1.0.0.43 - 03/01/2011
    -> vmware-esx-drivers-net-qlge_400.1.0.0.43-1OEM.338044.iso
    -> http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/esx_esxi4x_qlogic_qle8152_schultz/ZCV0YnRlQGRiZHdldA==

See if that helps your situation.
