VDS and NSX Cluster

Hi all

I want to know the role of the cluster and VDS in NSX

and what is the difference with the HA or DRS cluster

Thank you

both are presequite installation for the component of the NSX. He uses to transport VXLAN. VDS are designed to accommodate VXLAN portgroup. There is no different between cluster in HA and Drs Because it used the same cluster.

  • Moving from VSS to VDS and how many have

    Having some difficulty deciding to VDS how we should have in our Organization.

    We have 4 clusters all under one site, wait for 1 of them they run all 2 VSS, one for data and one for iSCSI storage. 1 cluster that is different is the last cluster of Production that still turns a VSS for iSCSI, but data are running on a VDS.

    Data of each cluster network is identical and connect to the same basic switch, all the VLANS on all clusters are identical

    Each iSCSI network cluster runs in its own set of switches and do not touch each other so very isolation.

    I'm a fan of join our VDS data network, but I've seen several posts on how to configure for Sites and I was wondering what is the best for our environment.

    I heard that normally it is 1 VDS to rule them all, but I think plus 1 VDS for each cluster and not one for the site.
    The reason behind this is that the role of each cluster is very different and I would like to work on clusters in a vacuum and I know that if I make a change in that it won't have another effect.

    Cluster-1 prod (5 guests) < == cluster of Production for applications outside of our web site main base claim system

    Dev cluster (6 guests) < == pole of development for all the work of development

    UAT Cluster (2 guests) < == user acceptance tests before accepting the changes in demand

    Prod Cluster 2 (2 guests, which has the vds) < == main cluster of Production for our web-based system

    So what you think 1 per site, 1 by cluster or stay with VSS

    First of all, go to vDS probably :-) And on how many vDS, I don't like the idea of a single vDS for the whole environment (including testing) but a vDS for clusters is too if you have clusters with similar roles, and for this reason I propose a vDS for the production Cluster and another for Dev/UAT Cluster.

  • Table of clusters and the cluster is a bar counter, how can I change the color individually?

    Table of clusters and the cluster is a bar counter, how do I change the color of the bar individual meter for each element of the array?  I just realized that you cannot change the properties of an element of the array without changing everything.  For scale, I had to make digital for each graduation of the scale indicators so that each measure meter in the table in the cluster has individual scales.  I also had to do some calculations for each barmeter to display the correct proportions of 0 to 100% on the scale.  Now, I'm stumped on the color of the bar counter.  Basically, if the value exceeds a set value, the meter bar should turn red.  It must be in a table to be infinitely scalable.

    Thank you

    Matt

    And yet anothr approach...

    Right click on the bar of > Options to fill > maximum fill.

    The fill color of the same color as the background color, then make the background color transparent.

    Drop a box of color BEHIND the bar and the size correctly.

    He has this strange background 3D with flat bar, but what the Hey, his relatives. If its important a custom color box.

  • Can this load balance and HA cluster with vsphere?

    Hello community!

    Really new on this type of subject, so forgive me if IAM iam do or say something wrong. I'm here to try to understand better this amazing tool so I apreciate your time and knowlodge!
    Im trying to create a failover and balancing cluster with Vsphere, the goal is try to install an MSSQL DB server where the customer can access more quickly and do not have downtime when a node is down.

    I read a lot but still I can't have a full understand abt, so if anyone tries to explain something, please be patient and explain with precision.

    All doing wrong if you really work at home as a LABORATORY, and I can do it, hurt trying to use it to get a job because I don't have and I really need one soon!
    Here is my diagram is possible?

    Diagrama Cluster HA-DRS.jpg

    Well ill to explain it, I have clients that will send a work for my DB load process, which will affect on MSSQL Server installed on the 12 TB logical drive created from the union of all methods virtual storage. Each virtual storage is just a virtual disk created on a virtual machine that is hosted on the physical server (node).

    So I have 4 physical server which have 1 VM each with 3 TB of virtual disk, the goal is the customer can send the process of workload on 4 nodes to have a quicker response, and if a single node fails for any reason, the other node can operate withow problem.

    physical server Medley: don't know yet if I have to use one or install VMWARE directly.

    Sagna VM: Windows Server 2008 (don't know if necessary or if I can just install SQL Server directly)

    MSSQL Server VM: 2008 Enterprise (still don't know if I have to use this one)

    Well I can't think right now on the other details, but if you tell me ill be happy to write it.

    Sorry if my writing or semantics is false but English is not my first language.

    Really thanks to get to this point and share your knowlodge!

    Best regards, josh of Argentina!

    Josh, please correct me if I'm wrong, you have 4 knots of MS - SQL, and you need to read/write at the same time in a shared database of 12 to.

    If this is the case check the following documents:

    The above covers the part of the diagram which includes 4 nodes SQL and the shared database, the other part of the client to the SQL nodes that segments the loads on the nodes, I think you should see Microsoft options.

  • Will be communicating with VTEP and NSX flow controller (for example the NAV VTEP) network vmkernel management?

    Hello

    I have question concerning communication with the controller VTEP and NSX.

    Will be communicating with workflows VTEP and controller within the network vmkernel management NSX?

    Alternatively, it empties the VTEP network? (Network VXLAN?)

    I think it is by the vmkernel management network, as ESXi host with controller NSX need not always have

    VTEP (or Logical switches) segment.

    I thought that it could flow within the segment of NSX controller if it is independent of the normal (communication of host of ESXi and vCenter)

    management vmkernel, but I think that there are restrictions which network of the controller must be in the same segment of layer 2.

    I tried to find some document but nothing of any document clearly states what network port group transmits VTEP and NSX flow controller.

    I'll be very happy if the experts give me answer.

    BR

    As far as I know: you're right - this traffic is via the host management network and a connection routed between controllers it is not currently supported with NSX - v.

  • VM list name and the cluster that it flows in a CSV file

    Hello

    I want to have a created CSV file that will conaitn 2 fields: vm_name, vm_custer

    Which means, I want to list the name of the virtual machine and the cluster is running in a CSV file.

    Here is the code I wrote:

    #! / usr/bin/perl - w
    use strict;
    Use Data::Dumper;
    use VMware::VIRuntime;
    My % opts = (data center = > {})
    Type = > "s =",
    help = > 'enter the name of the data center. "
    required = > 1,
    });
    OPTS::add_options (%OPTS);
    OPTS::parse();
    OPTS::Validate();
    Util::connect;
    "open (my $FH, ' > ', 'final.csv') or die" cannot opne final.csv: $! » ;
    print $FH 'VM_Cluster, VM_Name, \n ";
    my $dc = Opts::get_option ("data center");
    My $dc_view = Vim::find_entity_view (view_type = > 'Data center',)
    filter = > {name = > $dc});
    My $clu_views = Vim::find_entity_views (view_type = > "ComputeResource")
    begin_entity = > $dc_view);
    my $cluster foreach (@$clu_views)
    {
    My $clu_name = $cluster-> name;
    my $hosts = $cluster-> host;
    foreach (@$hosts)
    {
    My $host_hash_ref = Vim::get_view (mo_ref = > $_);
    My $vm_view = $host_hash_ref-> virtual machine;
    foreach (@$vm_view)
    {
    My $vm_hash_ref = Vim::get_view (mo_ref = > $_);
    My $vm_name = $vm_hash_ref-> name;
    $FH print $clu_name. ", ".  $vm_name. », «. "\n" unless $clu_name = ~ m/0bld0 /; "
    }
    }
    }
    Close ($FH);
    Util::disconnect;

    Now, I get the CSV file created as I wanted to, but the question is, there are 3500 + VMs in vCenter and this script side took 50 minutes to complete. It is therefore a huge performance impact. Also, I don't like the concept of 3 layers netsted foreach loops.

    Therefore, there is an effective way to get this information?

    Thank you.

    Your welcome.  It could be made faster, but the complexity of the additional code is probably not worth if the runtime you have now is enough.  No doubt, you can add additional data to your report without too slow.

    You can also find the script works faster or slower depending on what is happening in your virtual center system.

    Thanks for the update on the success!

  • vDS and vCenter Server loss

    Hypothetical question. If I create a vDS and my vCenter server goes down, each host will lose this switch or it will have been copied to each host config automatically? Thank you

    Hi Matt,

    Distributed switch are stored in data warehouses, in folders named .dvsData. Thus, even if the vCenter is off, guests have access to network configurations.

  • Cluster VI3 and vSphere Cluster (migrate virtual machines)

    I have a VI3 and vSphere cluster.  Could I just drag-and - drop my virtual machines to the new Cluster or do I have to upgrade the virtual machines ' hardware of the v4 to v7?

    Thanks in advance

    1. you don't have to upgrade the virtual machine hardware, it is optional.

    2. you do not have to create new cluster, simply upgrade existing by-host. Virtual machines with hardware v4 can be VMotion'ed between 3.5 and 4.0 hosts

  • Find virtual machines in a range of IP addresses and name, IP and output Cluster

    Hello

    I am trying to create a script for the release of all the virtual machines that fall within a range of IP addresses and exit the VM name, IP address and the Virtual Cluster of machine is hosted in. I've got so far as to the release of the name of VM and IP, but can't seem to get the cluster to work. I can't find an expression for an attribute of Cluster in Get-View. Does anyone know how to complete it? Or maybe another way to go about this?

    Notice-EEG - ViewType VirtualMachine-filter @{"Guest.IpAddress"="10.10.10 *"} | Select Name,@{N="IP; E = {$_.guest.} Ip_address}}

    OUTPUT:

    Name                                                                                                 IP

    ----                                                                                                      --

    SERVER1                                                                                          10.10.10.1

    Thank you!

    That foot kicks back an error for each virtual computer running trying to interview (below). I don't know, but you are able to use - property and - Id in the same line - filter?

    Get-view: all parameters can be resolved by using the specified named parameters.

    Online: 15 char: 13

    + View-EEG-Id $esx. VM-Name, property filter Guest.IPAddress @{'guest...

    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    + CategoryInfo: InvalidArgument: (:)) [Get-view], ParameterBindingException)

    + FullyQualifiedErrorId: AmbiguousParameterSet, VMware.VimAutomation.ViCore.Cmdlets.Commands.DotNetInterop.GetVIView

    Change what you have there to remove the - filter and add back to the place where the declaration did the trick. Runs without error, but still takes a minute or two to complete. But that's fine.

    foreach ($cluster in (Get-View - ViewType ClusterComputeResource-property name, host)) {}

    foreach ($esx in (Get-View-Id $cluster. Home - VM property)) {}

    if($ESX.) VM) {}

    Notice-EEG-Id $esx. VM-Name property, Guest.IPAddress | where {$_.guest.} {IpAddress-like ' 10.10.10 * "} |

    Select Name,@{N='Cluster'; E = {$cluster. Name}},@{N='IP'; E = {$_.guest.} Ip_address}}

    }

    }

    }

    If I wanted to filter by name of Vlan or VlanID would I be able to replace the Guest.IpAddress property for a related property of VLAN?

    Thank you very much for the help!

  • NTP and NSX 6.2 dns controller

    Hello

    How to set ntp/dns on the NSX 6.2 controllers? I added dns for the ip but show pool

    display network dns-servers gives me nothing.

    BR

    Johan

    DNS servers should be added to the ip pool until inspectors are deployed in so that they can be configured on the controller.

    Assuming that 192.168.2.22 is a dns server and 192.168.2.23 is an ntp server, the commands are:

    Add a dns-server 192.168.2.22 network

    Add a network ntp-server 192.168.2.23

  • vDS and vCenter Server on SAN

    I have a very specific question about it as possible.

    I have 3 guests with no local VMFS (ESXi installed on a Flash cards) and all data warehouses are on the SAN.

    VCenter Server is a virtual machine residing on the SAN.

    SAN access is configured with iSCSI connected through a vDS.

    What would happen if there is a power failure?

    Say that I turn on the SAN first, then try to power on the hosts, the hosts would have access to the San while vCenter Server is still off powerd (and because it's aVM)?

    Thanks for your understanding!

    On VMware ESXi ESX, the vDS configuration is saved on /etc/vmware/dvsdata.db. The file .dvsdata of data warehouses are used by HA and stores some information as the State of the port and its stats.

  • A single vCops VAPP arrive at a cluster of Std vCops and a cluster of businesses vCops?

    Looking to design a vSphere Management Cluster using vCloud Suite STD (Std vCops) and a Production Cluster using vCloud Suite Enterprise (vCops Ent).   If I connect the vCenter vCops that handles both of these licences of vCops, is vCops smart enough to allow the right license for each cluster based on how to assign the licenses?

    The reason why I want to do it is because I don't want to lose vCloud Suite Ent licenses on a cluster of vSphere management, but still want vCops Std to manage the infrastructure of virtual machines in the cluster.

    Thank you

    -MattG

    vCOps can use only 1 license key at the time, so it will only work in a single edition at some point.

    If you want to have 2 different deployments under license, you will need 2 vCOps different deployments in the same vCenter. You will need 2 keys vCOps - 1 for vCOps STD and 1 for vCOps Ent. A unit of vCOps will have access to / collect resources for the MTS, the other for the resources of the NTS. License will be assigned to each appropriate vCOps deployment. You must have a device of vCOps (last registered member) configured as the extension in vCenter for the web client feature.

  • vDS and vSS difference VLAN

    Hello!

    I have ESXi host 5.1, with 2 uplinks. An uplink for standard switch, another for Distributed (I have other ESXi hosts it and vCenter 5.1 for all these guests, but that's another story)

    I have a virtual network with VLAN5 (for example) to a standard switch and VM inside this network accessible by network connection

    I have port inner distributed group switch with VLAN5 and I tried to change network settings VM standard network switch to group of distributed switch ports.

    In my opinion VM will remain in the same VLAN5 and everything should be fine, but so VM is not accessible from the network then inside vDS port group...

    Please help me - what am I I was wrong?

    Hello! The settings are - DvSwitch Port Group, policies-> VLAN-> type of VLAN: VLANS and VLAN ID 5.

    The problem was in the physical switches (it the ESXi physically connected to the network) and VLAN home settings.
