Virtual machines on NFS data warehouses freeze when snapshots are deleted

I'm running 3 ESXi 4.1 update 1 guest (essentials more license) with shared storage on a NetApp FAS2040 accessible via NFS. 5.2 PHD virtual is deployed for backups. Each time the backup is completed on a virtual machine and the snapshot is removed, the virtual machine in question freezes completely (not yet responding to pings) for 10 to 30 seconds. The issue is documented in the following VMware article:

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1031106

However, while the article claims that the problem has been resolved in a fix, I persist it despite running on the last level of patch (build 433742). Is that all that I should have done after installing the latest patch? If the issue is not yet fixed, is there one solution other than to switch to iSCSI?

According to Ko, the patch is ESXi 4.1 patch ESXi410-201104402-BG contains vmware-tools. One thing to try is maybe upgrade your vmware tools in the virtual machine? (I don't know if you have upgraded)

  • Get-stat - disk for virtual machines on NFS data warehouses

    Hi all

    Through work for VMs on NFS data warehouses get-stat-disc?

    $myVM | Get-stat - disc

    Doesn't seem to work for VMs on NFS data warehouses, but that works for VMs on VMFS data warehouses.

    «WARNING: NFS performance statistics are not available (to come in a future version of vSphere).»

    When these statistics are available for NFS data storage?

    Kind regards

    marc0

    The answer is in the property of instance data that Get-Stat returns.

    (1) get-Stat ==> canonical name of the LUN on which disk the hard

    (2) get-Stat virtualdisk ==> The SCSI id of the virtual disk inside the VM

    (3) get-Stat data store ==> the name of the data store

    (1) you give statistics for view virtual machine i/o activity starting from the LUN. For a VM with several virtual disks on the same data store, this will display the total IO statistics. And it will also include i/o generated by another VM on the LUN as swap, Flash files related...

    (2) gives statistics for 1 specific virtual disk of your virtual machine

    (3) statistics of e/s of your VM to a specific data store. Interesting when you have a store of data with multiple extensions (multiple LUNS)

    I hope that clarifies it a bit.

  • Need a script to list all virtual machines on specific data warehouses

    I am trying to find a way to list all virtual computers on specific data warehouses. I use vSphere 5.1 and so far I got this:

    Get-Datastore. where {$_ .name - like ' * XXX * ""} | Get - VM | Select name, @{N = "Datastore"; {E = {Get-Datastore - VM $_}} | Sort name | FT - one

    This kind of work, but it would be perfect if I got this:

    -Group data store

    -Unique virtual machines (VMS to report only to the data store where the VMX)

    Any help appreciated.

    I relied on the fact that the first in the list would be the data store that holds the VMX, which apparently is a misconception.

    Try like this

    Get-Datastore-Name ' * xxx *' |

    Get - VM | Select the name,

    @{N = "Datastore"; E={$_. {{ExtensionData.Config.Files.VmPathName.split ('[]') [1]}} |

    Tri-objet-property data store name |

  • How to use SMotion to move a virtual machine on two data warehouses

    Hello, I have a virtual machine that has two VD (VD1 and VD2) and they are on different data (DS1 and DS2) warehouses.  The OS is on VD1 and VD1 on DS1.  Data on VD2 and VD2 is on DS2.

    Is it possible to use SMotion to pass just VD1 of DS1 to anthers datastore (DS3) but leave VD2 on DS2?

    I tried to move, but I don't see an option to move just a VD.

    Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

  • List virtual machines and their data warehouses

    I took a dagger to the list of all virtual machines in my VC with data warehouses where their VMDK:

    $report = @)

    $allvms = Get-VM

    {foreach ($vm to $allvms)

    $row = "" | Select VMNAME, DATASTORE

    $row. VMNAME = $vm.name

    {color: #ff0000} $row. DATA store = (Get - VM | get-data store)

    $report += $row

    }

    $report | Export-Csv "C:\vm_ds.csv" -NoTypeInformation

    No luck. I know that the problem is with the cndlet of get-data store, the file indicates the VMNAME column filled with virtual machines, as expected, but the column of report DATA store System.Object [].

    Any help would be appreciated.

    You are already in a loop through all the guests (the loop foreach in line 3), there is no need to get all customers with the cmdlet Get - VM (again) in the 6th line.

    You can just pass (i $vm) invites him to the cmdlet Get-data store on line

    System.Object [] entry in the CSV file is caused by the fact that the Export-CSV cmdlet does not know how to handle objects or arrays of objects.

    One solution is to loop through all the data store names that are returned.

    And keep the data store name in the property of the DATA store.

    The result is that there will be several rows in the CSV file to people with more than 1 data store.

    $report = @()

    $allvms = Get-VM
    foreach ($vm in $allvms) {
         $dstores = $vm | Get-Datastore
         foreach($ds in $dstores){
              $row = "" | select VMNAME, DATASTORE
              $row.VMNAME = $vm.name
              $row.DATASTORE = $ds.Name
              $report += $row

  • RS 4 and NFS data warehouses

    Hi, I have a problem with SRM and NFS data warehouses

    When I set up the table through vCentre Customer Manager in the MRS Plugin I get the following message when scanning for NFS data storage

    "Replicated devices could not be matched with inventory data warehouses."

    We have a 4.01 vSphere server with ESX 3.5u4 hosts.

    SRM 4.0 is deadlocked.

    Our storage is on IBM Nseries N5600 reporting using DataOntap 7.2.5.1.

    The SRA we use are ver 1.4 of IBM.

    Someone at - it never experianced this problem and if so how to fix it.

    Thank you

    Mahmood

    I used this SRA without any problems, so I suspect that something is wrong with your replicated configuration of NFS export.

    To help further, I would need to see the SRM journal from the site server protected SRM immediately after seeing this message. You can download that on this subject?

    I also suggest that you connect a SR with VMware support, because they can help here as well.

    see you soon

  • Script to list all the warehouses of data in a cluster, the virtual machines on the data store and the host of the virtual machine is on

    We have warehouses of data which are seen by more than one cluster. I need a script that will display:

    all stores of data seen by a cluster

    the virtual machines on the data store

    the host of the virtual machine is on

    the cluster the host is in

    The output I want is

    name of the store of data, the VM name, host name, the name of the Cluster

    any help would be appreciated

    Pretty sure this will do what you need:

    $report = @()
    Foreach($cluster in Get-Cluster){
        $datastores = $cluster | Get-VMHost | Get-Datastore
        foreach($datastore in $datastores){
        $vms = $datastore | Get-VM
        If ($vms.count -ge 1){
            foreach($VM in $vms){
            $object = New-Object -TypeName PSObject -Property @{
                  Datastore = $datastore.Name
                  VM = $VM.Name
                  HostName = $VM.VMhost
                  Cluster = $cluster
                }
            $report += $object
            }

        }
        }
    }
    $report | Export-Csv C:\Temp\VMs.csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture

    If you only want to shared data warehouses you can then use

    $datastores = $cluster | Get-VMHost | Get-Datastore | Where {$_.Extensiondata.Summary.MultipleHostAccess -eq $True}

  • Migration of storage when the virtual machine has several data stores

    How can I (or can I) use Storage vMotion on ESX4.0 U1 to migrate part of a virtual computer to a new data store?  I have a virtual machine with 5 data stores attached and move 1 data warehouses to a LUN of larger size.  What is the best method?

    On the "Select the data store" window, click on the button "Advanced". You can specify the location of each VMDK and configuration files.

  • Move the virtual machine in another data store

    I don't know what's going on, I have two data warehouses and I moved my vm from one to the other, I had to create a new virtual machine to import the files migrated, when I opened the store of data for import only saw two files vmdk files, the first 00001 others a single vmdk file that contains 00 001 not opened when you import the second succeeded, but when the server starts, it goes up a very old version, as if it was newly installed windows 2003, I saw in the dishes, delta files files but don't know what to do, I tried to check the Snapshot Manager, but did not find anything there.

    Have you ever tried to fix things? The attached .vmx file points to the correct instant hard file (scsi0:0.fileName = "Cezzanne - 000001.vmdk"), but the parentCID in this hard file is not correct!

    In any case, after replacing "Cezzanne - 000001.vmdk" with that of archive attached, you should be able to restart the virtual machine. BTW. You can delete the file «.lck...» ». This is necessary on a NFS datastore.

    Next time you copy a VM, do not create a new virtual machine. Only delete the virtual machine to inventory before moving and after moving it, click right the VM .vmx file and choose "add to the inventory.

  • List of virtual machines in the data store that is not in stock

    Hi guys

    PowerCLI rookie here, sorry for the stupid questions.

    I'm trying to clean up a bunch of singehost with local data warehouses. So I need a script that can display a list of files of virtual machine on a data store that is not used by VMs in the inventory. One of the problems is that the files on the data store, isn't every means, named exactly the same as the virtual machine in the inventory.

    Summer watching this, but I think the term "orphan" is "sent, in my view, it is:

    Also it is - this one, I think that I should be able to change it to do what I want:

  • Virtual MACHINE created on date export csv - get - vm testvm works but says testvm get-vmcreationdate is not found.

    Hello

    I entered the following two functions in my shell powercli

    Two functions I have installed

    function {Get-VMEvents

    < #.

    . Logbook

    Get events for an entity or query all events.

    . Description

    This function returns the events for the entities. It is very similar to

    cmdlet Get-vievent. Please note that get-VMEvent can handle 1 vm at a time.

    You can't send picture of vms in this version of the script.

    . Example of

    Get-VMEvents 0All-types "VmCreatedEvent", "VmDeployedEvent", "VmClonedEvent".

    He will receive all events of type "VmCreatedEvent", "VmDeployedEvent"

    'VmClonedEvent '.

    . Example of

    Get-VMEvents-name 'vm1' - type 'VmCreatedEvent '.

    Will be out of the events of creation of virtual machine: "vm1. It's faster than the vms piping is of

    result of Get - vm. There is no need to use get - vm to move names to get-vmevents.

    Yet, it is OK when you do, it will be just a little more slow < span class = "wp-smiley wp-emoji wp-emoji-blink of eye" title = ';') > ;) </span >

    . Example of

    Get-VMEvents-name 'vm1' - category 'WARNING '.

    Will be out all events for vm: 'vm1. It is is faster than the names of piping of

    cmdlet Get - vm. Category will get-vmevent to search only the defined category

    events.

    . Example of

    Get - vm "vm1 | Get-VMEvents-types "VmCreatedEvent", "VmMacAssignedEvent".

    Shows events for vm1 which will be regarding the events of creation,.

    and events when when / what mac address is assigned

    . VM parameter

    This setting is a unique string that represents the name of the vm. He expects this single vm name

    There in the virtual Center. Now in the first version of the script, it will only load a case

    where there is 1 instance of vm selected name. In the future it will load multiple as

    Well.

    . Types of parameters

    If none is specified, it will return all the events. If specified will return

    Only the events with selected types. For example: "VmCreatedEvent."

    "VmDeployedEvent", "VmMacAssignedEvent" "VmClonedEvent", etc...

    . Category of a parameter

    Possible categories are: warning, info, error. Please use this setting if you

    you want to filter events.

    . Setting all the

    If you need to set this parameter, so command queries all events

    Center Virtual Server virtual machines.

    . Logbook

    Gets if possible virtual machine created.

    . Description

    This function will return the object with information about the creation time, method, of months,.

    VMname: SomeVM12

    Createduserid: 10/08/2012 11:48:18

    CreatedMonth: August

    CreationMethod: cloned

    Creator: office\greg

    This function displays NoEvent property in case when your VC do not

    more information on these specific events, or your vm events no longer have

    entries for the subject being created. If your VC data base has more tension date it is no longer possible

    you find this event.

    . Example of

    Get-VMCreationdate - VMnames 'my_vm1', 'My_otherVM '.

    This will return items that contain date information of creating virtual machines with names

    myvm1 and myvm2

    . Example of

    Get-VM-location 'Cluster1 | Get-VMCreationdate

    This will return items that contain information created for virtual machines that are

    Located in Cluster1

    . Example of

    This will return items that contain information created for virtual machines that are

    located in the data center "mydc" container If you use this feature in an existing loop where you

    having the cmdlet get-view virtual machines, you can pass them via pipes or as a parameter VMnames.

    . Example of

    $report = get-cluster "cl-01' | Get-VMCreationdate

    $report | Export-csv c:\myreport.csv

    Stores all reported creationtimes object in the array $report variable and export the report to a csv file.

    You can also filter the report before you write in the csv file using select

    $report | Where-Object {$_.} {CreatedMonth - eq "October"} | Select VMName, CreatedMonth

    So that you see only the vms that have been created in October.

    . Example of

    Get-vmcreationdate - VMnames "my_vm1", testvm55

    WARNING: my_vm1 is not found, typo?

    VMname: testvm55

    Createduserid: 05/10/2012 14:24:03

    CreatedMonth: October

    CreationMethod: NewVM

    Creator: home\greg

    In case when you receive virtual machine that is not appropriate in the infrastructure of yor, a warning is displayed.

    You can always store the full text of the report in the $report variable, but it includes all the information on

    dates of creation of the missing vm. A warning always only for your information there is

    probably a typing mistake in the name of the virtual machine.

    . Parameter VMnames

    This parameter must contain objects of virtual machine or strings representing vm

    names. It is possible to supply this function wiith VM objects coming from get - vm or

  • Orchestrator 5.1 REPORT-all the virtual machines in the data center and create a CSV file

    Hello

    What I basically want to do is create a report CSV of all virtual machines in the data center with various information (VMname, domain name FULL, IPaddress, status, data warehouses, tools etc...).  The export list in the client feature is insufficient (especially for any KPI report).

    Problem: (workflow is still under construction so real email send does not not and need to clean the code)

    I am stuck at the part of the creation of a table that can be parsed correctly in the CSV file.  2 ways I've tried will produce a report of single object or combine all of the table into a single string (where I am now).  I think the main problem I have is that I have to create a 2D within my service to push toward the final table that is written to the CSV format.  Basically, I do not understand how to push my variables in a loop of a table.

    Any help or assistance?

    Thank you

    B

    BOOM!

    Added some comments, removed the hardcoded in the csv temp file, deleted path the hardcoded port 25 for SMTP - mail settings should come from the configuration of the MAIL plug-in. And fixed / confirmed that the workflow now includes the attachment for e-mail and ends with success!

  • Add virtual machines to a data store while changing the name?

    I am trying to create a virtual machine in standby (or more, I do not have a final number) in a second datacenter.  The goal is to have a copy of a group of virtual machines updated once a week as a relief.

    I'll use our SAN replication to keep them up-to-date, so once a week, I stop all virtual machines in the data store, remove them from the inventory and remove the data store.  Then on the side of SAN, I'll create a new copy of the data store, then add this data store to vSphere.  We will do a few rounds of network to ensure we have not any change in the network that should be taken in the virtual machine.

    The only changes to the virtual machine that needs to be done, are changing the vSwitch is logged in, that I understood, and to rename the virtual machine, either before being added, or when it is added.  Since it is a copy of a virtual machine running, I'm not able to add all virtual machines to the new data store.  I need either change the name of the virtual machine before being added, or when it is added.  All I have to do to change the name is add something like - backup at the end of the name of the virtual machine.

    Is it reasonably simple way to do this?  It seems that he was promised that we could do that and now I need to find a way to make it work.

    Thank you

    You can search the data for the VMX store you want to register a script like the one you'll find in VMX Raiders revisited.

    To change the name of the virtual machine, you will need to replace the line that contains the New - VM cmdlet with something like this

    $newName = $VMXFile.DatastoreFullPath.split('/')[1].Split('.')[0]New-VM -VMFilePath $path -Name ($newName + "-backup") -VMHost $ESXHost -Location $VMFolder -RunAsync

  • What is the advantage to affect multiple virtual machines in a data store?

    Hello

    Quite a question stupid and basic, but I can't answer . What is the advantage of having multiple virtual machines in a store of VMFS data instead of having each VM in another VMFS data store? (eg. 3 VMs in 1 data store or 3 data warehouses and each virtual machine in one of them). I can only think about the ease of management for storage administrator because it creates only a single large LUN.

    Thank you

    By allowing multiple virtual machines in a data store, you can run more than 256 virtual machines in a DRS cluster.

    As a host has a limit of 256 scsi identification numbers, which means that it accesses no more than 255 LUNS shared. 1 scsi ID is used for local storage.

    In a DRS cluster as each host must be mapped to the same data warehouses to ensure that virtual machines can be moved on the cluster and run on any of the hosts.

    Now in my life as an architect VMware PSO I saw that a lot of virtual machines that require a single data store. The main reason to isolate a virtual machine on a data store must provide sufficient i/o performance. This can be achieved with other solutions than to isolate a virtual machine on a data store. Having a properly architected storage subsystem is crucial, vSphere can get out of a very large number of the IOPS / s. With technologies such as SIOC and DRS for storage, you can check that the virtual machines receive IO performance according to the needs.

    Hello gentlemen,

    I can not only save this virtual machine with Backup Exec 2014 for a long time.

    They are there was no snapshot in snapshot Manager.

    Could you help me?

    A suspended snapshot could not be created for the virtual machine (DC) ha-data center (DC) \vm\VMware vCenter Server Appliance.

    V-79-57344-38260 - failed to create a snapshot of the virtual machine. The virtual machine is no longer exist, or may be too busy to pause to take the snap.

    A suspended snapshot could not be created for the virtual machine (DC) ha-data center (DC) \vm\FRPA111PRIM01.

    V-79-57344-38299-\vm\FRPA111PRIM01 ha-data center (DC) VMVCB::\\192.168.204.42\VCGuestVm\ (DC). To try to take a snapshot of a virtual machine failed because it could not be suspended in a file system.

    Hello

    I found the solution.

    I disabled the JOB BE general relativity.

    and the host where the virtual machine belong was not the right time. No Ntp server has been configured.

    I did and now there works.

    I think that the problem can come from this.
