VLDB (30 TB) NonRAC ASM data migration

My client is running 10.2.0.5 database that is TB 30 in size. Its HACMP/PowerHA with an active/passive configuration.

Customer wants to migrate this database to the ASM. They do not take backups rman due to the size of the database and bcv backup technology-dependent. Customer wishes to know what is the best way to make this migration with minimal downtime and risk.

BCV uses the copy on write technology and advanced technical mirroring. A BCV can be used to resynchronize the data, or it can be detached from the separately mounted and active data storage for offline processing.

If a full restore of an object or a clone of previous device enough so it can be a quick recovery. However, some implementations, like EMC Timefinder/Snapshot are not suitable for the recovery because they depend on the existence of the original data source.

In any case, I think that BCV technology provides only a very limited way for Oracle database backup, because it duplicates data errors and not suitable for advanced database, rman or tablespace restoration and recovery. A database of 30 to may take your time for RMAN, that also depends on what kind of database, it is and, for example, how often a full backup is required, but it can be done.

About the NAS, it's just an example to show that there are affordable storage solutions and it doesn't have to be expensive EMC storage systems. I don't see why such a solution cannot meet controls data center very strict regarding the technical aspects.

  • The data migration to 4.1 problem

    Hi guys,.

I've read and done almost everything in the present statutes and still did not solve my problem with the Data Migration tool.

Everything seems to go smoothly, but once the restore is complete, I find myself in a situation where two things are are produced.

Firstly - restored configuration is not in fact restored - vacuum.

Second - my vCenter is proud to announce that its evaluation license has expired. Either way, it's good to know (means that at least the period of assessment and departure have been migrated).

I am of the opinion that when I run the Backup I don't see that it backs up the license keys. I looked at the official youtube film of VMware and I can certainly see that the license information must be saved.

    Any suggestions?

  • Problem with the 4.1 vsphere data migration tool.

    Hello

I guess that's the problem with trying to be an early adopt.

I'm trying to upgrade my environment to vSphere 4.1. My old VC was 32 bits with a local SQl 2005 express (it's a lab - I don't want the full SQL version blown).

I re isntalled on a x 64 2008 R2. No, it's fine. But empty... no license or anything like that.

The docs say you can use the data migration tool to move the DB and config.

I followed the instructions and after backup.bat running I get the following error:

  • Prepare disks for ASM (data files and FRA)

I intend to place data files on a disc 1 (sd1) and disk2 (PSD) when the backup of files (FRA) on disk3 (SDC). Here's how I'd do:

    For data files
Disk1 is divided into a single primary partition (with native Linux what ID 83 not formatted system)
Disk2 is also divided into a single primary partition (with native Linux ID 83 system not formatted)

    oracleasm createdisk vol1/dev/sda1
    oracleasm createdisk vol2/dev/sdb1

    CREATE DISKGROUP DATA EXTERNAL vol1, vol2 REDUNDANCY;

    For backup FRA

    Disk3 is partitioned into four primary partitions: / Boot (ext3), / (ext3), swap (swap) and /u01 (ext3)

The FRA will be put under the/U01 and then attend the ASM:

    oracleasm vol3/dev/sdc4 createdisk
    CREATE DISKGROUP DATA EXTERNAL vol3 REDUNDANCY;

Now, the problem. (1) the/U01 has already be formatted in ext3; (2) Oracle (DBMS) software will also be place under/U01

    It will be a problem?

Otherwise, I can put FRA on the same drive as the data files, i.e. on disk1 and disk2. In this case, I need to partition the disk 1 in two primary parititions sda1 and sda2 (native Linux system ID 83 not formatted), one for data files and another for FRA (do the same for disk2). The downside is that the data file and the file recovery will be on the same hard drive.

    Please offer some suggestions.

    Thank you

    Scott

PS: in the environment of production, all the disc 1, 2 and 3 will be on hardware RAID 1.

RAID 1 will protect you only a device failure. It won't protect you partition, the file damage system or user errors; It will be in the image of the errors and problems like any other data.

So what happens if you delete by mistake / U01 or some other accident happens and you loose that partition? With your current setup, you will lose everything and will not be able to restore or recover the database. Put tablespaces FRA and DB on the same physical device is certainly a very bad idea, whether or not it is a RAID.

ASM is not a software RAID 1 mirror. It ensures redundancy of data based on file extensions and knows about files of Oracle database, which is a very good thing. You probably do not want to specify 'external redundancy.

In a production system, you'll certainly want to mux the critical data and to store the DB controlfiles, redo logs and finally archivelogs on media separate physically in order to avoid the single point of failures wherever possible. You can use partitions and volumes in ASM, but they should be separate physical drives, otherwise you will bypass the ASM data redundancy. You must also have a solid strategy for RMAN backup. The FRA is supposed to store backupsets RMAN, copies of the image, the important archivelogs and multiplexes of the copies of the database files and should therefore always on a separate physical disk.

Unless you simply play, I strongly suggest that review you your current configuration.

To add more space, we can create another disc of the Group DATA_DG2 on Prod ASM and Data Guard ASM env, replication continues without any problem. Will be archiving logs shipped to the second disk DATA_DG2 group and applied without any configuration changes?

    Hi Wilora,

Developer SQL 'know' the migration of the previous data.
You must truncate all your tables first. You can write a quick script to do this.

SELECT 'truncate table ' | table_name | ';' From user_tables; -of course be connected to your migrated user.

Then proceed to migrating data again. • The Tungsten T3 for Palm Pre data migration

    Hello

I am the owner of a Palm Tungsten T3. I have a lot of contacts, calendar, tasks and Memo data in I want to migrate my new Palm Pre. I saw Palm information on how to move the data from Palm Desktop for the pre, using the data transfer Assistant (DTA). However, it seems to work for Palm Desktop v6.2. T3 is not compatible with v6.2, being the latest sw version v4.1.4.e.

When I launched DTA, I got an error. I tried several things and looked in the forums, but only to find tips for v6.2. In the end, I decided to upgrade to v6.2 in my Windows XP, but I skipped stage of synchronization with my camera (such as the T3 is not compatible). Then I run the DTA. This time, I got to the step when it asked me to connect my pre as a USB key. But after that, he tells me that Palm Desktop is installed, but contains no data to transfer. However, I can see my data in the desktop. My guess is that I could solve the problem if I could synchronize with a PDA compatible.

Can someone give me a hint on how to transfer data to my pre of my T3? Is this possible at all?

    Thank you

Hello tekila29 and welcome to the forums of Palm.

You will not be the Tungsten T3 or the Palm Desktop 6.22 Pre - synchronization you will use as a vehicle to move the data into your pre.  I suggest that you use the command Export of Palm Desktop 4.1.4e for export data PIM (Contacts, calendar, tasks and Memos) out as a file in comma-delimited (.csv) as a backup before installing Palm Desktop 6.22 as the data upgrade process can not be cancelled.  If you need to go back to Palm Desktop 4.x and do not have a backup, you will be out of luck.

After you have backed up your data, I upgrade to Palm Desktop 6.22, DTA can migrate your data in the meadow and then synchronize the Pre with a Google account to access e-mail and calendar.

To fix your data problem in the second part of your post, you can try to install free third-party utility, PalmHotSyncSetup.  This changes the Windows for Palm Desktop registry keys so that he could support the older devices like the Tungsten T3.  You can download PalmDesktopHotSyncSetup from Pimlico Software Web site.

    Hope that helps,

  • Data migration of EBS to 12.2.4 EBS 11i

    Hi all

    EBS 12.2.4

    RHEL 6.5

We migrate our EBS 11i to EBS 12.2.4. Can you help me please what is the correct procedure to migrate data?

For example in the GL/tables schema in 11i, assuming that our functional did the GL R12.2.4 module setup.

How I extracted the tables in the schema of GL 11i database and load it into the scheme of database R12.2.4 GL?

Is it possible that the data loader itself will be to install the module GL R12.2.4 based on configuration data extracted from the 11i database?

Is it possible to copy the configuration in 11i and fill on R12.2.4?

Thanks in advance for your kind cooperation.

    JC

    Hello

You can do this by using WebADI.

Since you are going to extract only the balances so this task will be easier in extraction and loading.

The tables of the interface of 11i and R12 are not very different.

Almost the same method used by entering data in 11i usable in R12. The data to be loaded will be on spreadsheets prepared by users and validated by the business consultants.

The application developer should not take the data by itself and insert it into the new system.

You can do a quick search and find lots of resources on the topic.

We intend to migrate data to oracle on site to the cloud.

Due to the nature of the data that we'd spend only snapshot of the last 1 year 6 months to cloud and archive rest all data.

    Question:

Size of the data to be archived is 630-650 GB. We would like to migrate this data to a generic rather than the .dbf file format, so that we can port these data in any technology as and when necessary.

I would be interested in any suggestions on the best approach to achieve the same.
