VM clone, temporary snapshot always there!

I am cloning of virtual machines with VMware.

Some virtual machines have sometimes after the clone process a snapshot 'clone - snapshot-[date]' and the note is:

This temporary snapshot is taken as part of the clone operation. The temporary snapshot is deleted once the clone operation.

Any ideas why this snapshot has not been removed from the cloning process?

  • Help: Cannot clone a snapshot for a virtual machine that is turned off

    Hi guys

I am currently using VMWare Workstation 10.0.3 build-1895310

(The latest available at the time of writing)

I want to create a clone of a snapshot.

The snapshot is on the two snapshots behind 'You are here' - the current state.

The computer virtual running windows server 2012.

The virtual machine is completely turned off.

(the virtual machine was turned off within the BONE, and no 'Power Off' option is available in the menu 'Power' after the OS is turned off, indicating (as far as I can tell) that the virtual machine is turned off completely)

However, when you try to create a clone of the snapshot, the dialog box indicates that the virtual machine must be fed first (which I think it is) before making a clone.

The only option available in the dialog box is "Cancel". (ie - the cloning process cannot continue)

The attached picture shows the dialog of Clone, indicating the issue - and behind it, the engine power VM off

(I'm trying to clone the snapshot "Installation")

In other words, I have a completely powered off power VM (as far as I know), but it is impossible to create a clone of a snapshot, as VMWare seems to think that it is always active, for some unknown reason...

Am I something wrong / missing something?

    Please advise...

    Thanks in advance

    James

    Welcome to the community,

the reason is that the virtual machine has been turned on at the time you created the snapshot. What you can do is to clone the virtual disk manually using the command line of vmware-vdiskmanager (using the snapshot required as the source hard) and then create a new virtual machine by using the virtual disk cloned rather than creating a new.

  • The computers on the LAN has disappeared from the Explorer on Win7 machine... other devices always there

I had problems with Windows Virtual PC - would install not the integration features. So I deleted and reinstalled. Then it loads the integration... features for a few days... now won't again. I also installed VMware with XP virtual PC. I disabled virtual machine network maps to see if there was any change. No change.

I don't know when the computers on the LAN disappeared, because I had no reason to seek. I discovered that they were gone when a backup program could not set up a share on one of them.

Anyone has any ideas, what can happen?

    Hello

I suggest that you enable network discovery. Click on start-> Control Panel-> network and sharing Center, click on change settings for sharing advanced. Activate the option.

If the problem persists, try to access another computer by entering \\computername in the box to start the search. Let us know if it works properly

  • Which is the best Solution, Clone or snapshot to apply the hotfix on Windows

    Hello

I wonder what should I use as a backup of virtual machine for the application of the fix on windows... clone or snapshot.

Yes, the majority of the backup seems to instant because it is easy to take and come back when you want.

but I think that the clone is the powerful backup solution because it is able to have a file vmdk itself.

    for example...

What happens when you clear snapshot and do not... As you know when delete you the shadow copy will merge the vmdk file.

Is that it will never fail?

While if you use clone, this kind of discomfort will disappear. because you don't have to think when you delete it.

    This is an example.

Could you tell me your opinion and if you have already done or had a backup, the backup of your virtual machine? and why?

    Thank you!

Snapshot of the virtual machine, you will have patch and after all updates have been installed, and you have verified that everything works well, delete all the snapshots of 'delete '.

Besides being able to use snapshots to prevent a patch making disappear your OS installation, you should have a separate for your VMS backup strategy.

If this post was useful/solved your problem, please mark the points of wire and price as seem you. Thank you!

  • 7.1.4: cannot create clones from snapshots

I just got Vmware workstation 7.1.3 and 7.1.4 upgrade today. I'm trying to create clones of some of the snapshots in the virtual machines I created.

Unfortunately, the wizard that appears always tells me that I can't create clones of virtual machines that are suspended or powered.

All of my virtual machines are turned off, and it seems that I can only clone the current state of my virtual machines.

Is there a setting I'm missing?

When you create snapshots, there were no option so I don't think I did something wrong here.

I am running vmware workstation on Windows 7 64 bit.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Klaus

It is certainly. If the snapshot has been taken with the virtual machine power on or suspended, a clone would be in a consistent state of failure. A snapshot of a powered on or suspended VM contains the data from the memory of the virtual machine at the time the snapshot was taken.

  • Cannot delete files and music always there but not display upward when I connect to the computer?

    Hi all

Recently, I had a lot of problems with the music does not or don't play not I decided to delete all my e260 music and start again.  That's where the real problem started.

For some reason I can't delete three of the albums on my player.  Each of the albums have what appear to be corrupted in them files. My computer does not recognize the file type and file extension is given so I don't know what they are.  Each file "appears" to 4 GB in size but that may not be appropriate for my e260 is obviously only 4 GB in size!

Whenever I try to delete them I get an error message reading "cannot delete file: cannot read the source file or disc»

I tried to update the firmware, reset e260 to factory default settings and made 'restore' thingy (where you hold registration and plug it into the computer, etc.) and these files are still there.

After reading this thing of disk checking on this forum, I did this.  I was then able to remove two of the albums, but when I tried to delete the third album renamed 'a' and the damaged file shows 0 bytes in size, but I still can not remove.  However, I can move it to the folder music to any other folder.  I just can not remove!  When I do, I get an error message saying "cannot delete f: cannot find the file specified. '.  Be sure to only specify the path and the correct name.

After all that I started my e260, and now I find that 2 other albums are always on it, even if they do not display any where when I connect it to the computer.  I can see and read these albums on the drive, and they seem well, they do not appear to be there when I plug it into the computer and look for them in windows Explorer.  The music folder is not hidden also.  These two albums are not part 3 albums that I could not remove, they are actually part of the new substance started sort of all these problems with the music does not and is not only now that they are the display upwards and play but are not appear when connected to the computer!

I know it's probably not a lot of information but can someone tell me how to fix this?  If not, can I just format the * bleep * thing or I'll then have an e260 dead?

    See you soon,.

    PKFFW

PS: Sorry for the long windedness of this post.

Format will not remove the firmware, which is the operating system of the Sansa. It removes only the content that you have added. It will go back to what it was when it was new out of the box.

MTP does not matter if you have never used it. The ghost album can be just a list remains in your database file. Nevertheless, we must get rid of this corrupt file, so Format is probably your best option.

For what it's worth, to connect with the PSG, your computer needs Windows Media Player 10 or 11 is installed. XP comes with WMP 9, so he will not see the Sansa in MTP mode. unless you have updated.

    Hello

The system displays my VM was running without any snapshots, but in the data store, there are several delta as vmsd files, delta.vmdk files exist.

Create another cliché, and then use the option "Delete All" to delete all snapshots.

That get rid of the files?

  • Virtual machine running on snapshot but there are no spanpshot on the Snapshot Manager.

    Hi all,

After a backup with VMware Data Recovery failure (error-3960 cannot suspend virtual machine), I have a virtual machine running on snapshot (see attachment) but there is no snapshot on the Snapshot Manager. Is the command to "consolidate" (I have never used this feature) the solution?

    Thank you.

    Marco.

    OK let me explain.

As the chain of snapshot is not displayed in snapshot Manager, you can correct this problem in two ways.

1 engage the snapshot command line. If you are uncomfortable in the command line, follow this KB KB VMware: commit snapshots on ESXi host command line if you are not comfortable follow step 2.

    2. create a new snapshot for this virtual machine (this will create a chain of snapshot, and you can see the snapshot in the Snapshot Manager), once the snapshot is created successfully. You can remove the snapshot in the Snapshot Manager.

Hope this is clear. Let me know if not

  • Linked Clones and snapshots - which can be removed and when?

    Hello

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm new to the linked clones.

I was able to create clones related win2k8r2 invited.  Everything seems to work ok.  However, once a linked clone is created, is it still necessary to keep the parent snapshot?  That is to say, snapshot of the parent is necessary after related cloning?

    My env:

    VMware ESXi 4.1.0 build-433742

    VMware vSphere PowerCLI 4.1 build 332441 U1

    Thank you

    T

It must be remembered that a clone is based on the parent machine and a snapshot that you see in the server view.  Multiple snapshots can be consolidated or "rolled up", but depends on the clone.  The parent can put off when the do not need to save on resources in your environment, because that's what the replica is for.  I do not agree with Andre and suggest that you keep the snapshot that you clones are configured to use, with the exception on the consolidation of old clichés.

  • Clone and snapshot operation failed because the file already exists

    I read the article "http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1007193.

    If the delta is named < diskname > - 0000xx - delta.vmdk, create an empty file named < diskname > - 0000xx.vmdk.

Does anyone can say why is

Case of inoticed something vmdk name is server01.vmdk (DRIVE C), SERVER01_1.VMDK (drive D). Now what I saw in the vm data store

    SERVER01.VMDK (DRIVE C), SERVER01_1.VMDK became something else

    Why it happened,

How can I know when this gap that happened by creating snapshots?

Timestamps of files, problems with snapshots is past may, 25 and 26.

As I mentioned before, move ' _APLSV-000002 - delta.vmdk "in the directory"backup"or create a dummy"_APLSV - 000002.vmdk"(content should not serious). This will allow you to create a new snapshot to activate the button 'clear all '. It should still work with the virtual machine, so there is no need for the time stop.

If deletion and creation of the snapshot has been good, then, the snapshot of the first and the second disc should be _x-000005

Yes, usually the numbers for different drives are the same. However, in reality no matter.

  • Basic Data Center Virtual Clone or snapshot

I don't know how to do in this regard.

I need to clone or our SQL VM that is running the database snapshot vCenter, but of course when you stop the server vCenter stops responding.  We do not have a physical SQL Server, otherwise I would have put the that vCenter db.

can I clone it from the command-line safe?

How can I go about creating a backup before a major upgrade of the virtual machine?

    Thank you people!

I don't know if this is possible in ESX 3.5, because I'm in vSphere now.

Stop your vCenter, point your VI the esx Server that hosts the VM vCenter Client. (root user name and pass) and see if you can use clone.

It is not a best practice, and yet once again, I'm not sure if this is posible in 3.5.

But, why not to use SQL Server backup?

    Good luck.
