VMDK file not found - but it's there!
I have a client who has problems with a virtual machine.
Running Windows 7 Home 64 bit.
VMWorkstation 6.5.1
VM is supposed to be running Windows XP Professional, but I get the message
"File not found: Windows XP Professional.vmdk.
This file is required to power on this virtual machine. If this file has been moved, please provide its new location. »
This hard file is 0KB.
What is corrupt and how to fix it?
See attached the results of support.vbs.
First of all, you said it was 0 KB and existing in the screenshot is the same size and the date and time as the .vmem file, so I suspect that you copied the .vmem file and renamed him so it's really not a hard file. You can not just arbitrarily copy and rename the files from one type to another type to solve this problem! Even if it was a hard file, it is corrupted by the entries in the .log file and at this size, there is nothing to fix even if it was the original hard that the guest operating system has been installed has him toast now.

Windows 7 vmdk file not found, but it's really there...
Had a running instance of MAX OS 10.9.2 Fusion 6 and a VM Windows 7, everything worked fine. Had to reinstall the operating system using the procedure of restoration of Mac (alt - R during startup) to remove stuff JAMF Casper and re - take control of my machine after leaving a company. After recovery / re-install of OS X... I tried to use the original VM file and the merger could not find the vmdk files. So I restored a "Windows 7.vmwarevm" VM file Time machine. Same exact results... Fusion is up fine, recognizes the Windows 7 VM, but is not able to find the file "Windows 7.vmdk". When I try to start the virtual machine, I get the error message "could not open the file" / users/brucekreis/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized / 7.vmwarevm/Windows 7.vmdk Windows ":"the system cannot find the specified file". ".
I can see it in a terminal window, checked that I am the owner of all files and directories in the tree, and they have at least the permissions for the owner, RW read only for all the rest... I changed the permissions to all access for files and dir (chmod-r 777 < dir >) tree and even reset the ACL (r n < dir > chmod). I can change the configuration files using the console VMware fusion library and check that it changes through the terminal window. I tried to delete the .lck files and catch instant and re-did the file .vxm to the 7.vmdk Windows, without any change in the error message.
I always suspect permissions, ACL, or something dealing with the recovery changed. I restored the original file .vmwarevm yet once, so you can see it of original state before I started to make changes and ran the util to collect information of technical support. I attached the zip file.
FWIW... I tried to import the virtual machine and create a new virtual machine from this instance, but it is gray in molten selection windows, as if it is not recognized as a valid VM.
Thank you in advance...
You are missing two scopes binary "twoGbMaxExtentSparse', a basic disk, and the other from the first snapshot disk.
Windows 7 - s009.vmdk
Windows 7-000001 - s008.vmdk
It is a workaround solution mainly for the express purpose of recovering data from the user, which is stored in the virtual hard disk, not necessarily get working 100% again.
Copy Windows 7 - s040.vmdk for Windows 7 - s009.vmdk and Windows 7-000001 - s039.vmdk for Windows 7-000001 - s008.vmdk.
This replaces the missing binary extensions with empty extents. This allows VMware Fusion a string of competition and makes it look like a complete set of files hard.
The problem is the two missing bodies, look at the size of each before and after, there will be some lack of content. How the mission critical, can not say.
You can try to start normally or start first with an ISO Image live and make recovering data first, and then try to run normally. I can't say exactly what will be broken/missing except however backups clean* you don't have much choice.

Hi, I have a problem that I can't solve with the usual methods.
My data
software: VMVware Workstation 6.5.1 build 126130
Host: NB HP Compaq 2510p with 2 GB of ram
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3 5.12.2600
I have a Win XP Pro SP3 computer virtual created for my work:
6-5 - 7.0 VM workstation
RAM: 512 MB
Windows XP Pro operating system
Processors: 1
CDRom: Autodetect
Floppy: Autodetect
USB: present
Sound card: Autodetect
Display: Autodetect
HARD drive is divided into 2 GB files
The problem lies in the HARD disk:
40 GB declared
0 MB recognized by the system
My VM was functional complete. After a suspension
The State remains suspended
When I try to resume, a pop-up window will appear "file not found: IATROS VM.vmdk" go through it...
the vmdk file exists (see my attached files).
When I try to see the features on the parameters, appears "the specified file is not a virtual disk" and all data in the pop-up are unknown or missing.
I tryied to use the vmware_vdiskmanager with the command vmware - vdiskmanager.exe - R 'e:\appo1\IATROS VM.vmdk' in vain also.
I think that it is necessary to recreate a file descriptor for disc divided into 2 GB files.
but, if we compare the contents of the VMDK file with the discussion in the article, there seems to be no problem of format or content.
There are suggestions to solve the problem?
can I await your response?

for example. Google 'bc spca', choose www.spca.bc.ca and go. Firefox gives me this...
File not found
Sorry, the page you requested was not found. Please try again.Original URI: /assets/tab_advocate_mo.jpg
But if I hit the arrow to the left, it shows me the page I searched for a fraction of a second, then goes back to the file not found again. This does not happen with Chrome or Internet Explorer. They go to the appropriate page.
I am running windows 8.1 and uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. NO GO. Help, please.
Generally if an image on a page can not be found, Firefox does not redirect the entire page with an error message. the area of the image is just left in white. If this is not normal.
On the error page, what do you see in the address bar, if anything?
To check if one of your extensions could be the culprit, could test some pages from Firefox Safe Mode problem? It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:
- button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
- Help menu > restart with disabled modules
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still works
After stops in Firefox, a small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).
Any difference?

How the Virtual Machine has been backed up and restored? If Time Machine then...
It is a known fact that Time Machine is not 100% reliable backing up/restoring VMS in all circumstances/conditions. Also back up Virtual Machines via Time Machine of disk/time intensive and wastes a lot of space for something that may be corrupted and worthless time to restore it. That said, if you don't have a copy of the file "Windows 7 - f004.vmdk" and then to try to retrieve the data from the user, you can try the following:
Download then unzip it (double-click on) the joint "Windows_7 - f004.vmdk.zip" file that contains the file "Windows 7 - f004.vmdk ' an empty logical binary measure that has been created on the metric of the existing drive and add to the Package of the Virtual Machine. This should allow the VHD to be considered as a virtual hard drive, assuming that there is no damage to the extent of the binary left headers. Take a look on: work with Virtual Machine packages
At this point, that the VHD has the scope necessary to show as a full disk, assuming that it is not corrupt the header in other binary extensions and can now attempt to access for the recovery of user data.
There are several ways to try to retrieve user data. The easy, although not necessarily work properly according to what now lack us due to replace the missing binary extensions with a logical empty measure, is trying to start the VM normally. If the virtual machine starts up on the desk and VMware Tools load properly you should be able to copy your data to user off on a USB or slip and fall on the side of Mac or if you have a configured VMware folder then copy the files through it.
Other methods involve starting the Virtual Machine with a Live OS ISO Image and copy files from a USB key or temporarily assemble the VHD to another Virtual Machine work.
With the right tools installed the virtual hard disk could also be mounted as another accessible Volume through Finder.

VMWare vmdk file not found even after it is
I download the VMWare image of haiku from http://haiku-files.org/VM/index.php?dir= & sort = Name & Order = DESC and when I opened it it asked me to locate haiku-alpha - gcc4.vmdk. After traveling to locate the file in the dialog box reappears and not disappear unless I cancel, which means that it never finds the hard file. How can I make VMWare find the file? I use VMWare Fusion Version 2.0.5 (173382) on 10.5.7.
Change the name of the file "haiku-alpha - gcc4.vmdk" ' haiku - alpha.vmdk "and change the ide0:0.fileName = ' haiku-alpha - gcc4.vmdk" line in the file ' haiku-pre-alpha - gcc4.vmx "to reflect the will even and it can work.

My vmdk files not visible from vpshere but visible from ssh console
Hello
I would use my dataontap virtual appliance of Netapp communities tar file.
Their installation guide, they show just to put this on the data store tar file.
This tar file contains the following files:
DataONTAP.vmdk
DataONTAP.vmx
DataONTAP - flat hard
DataONTAP - nvram.vmdk
DataONTAP-nvram - flat hard
DataONTAP - s001.vmdk by DataONTAP - s126.vmdk (126 disk files)
DataONTAP - sim.vmdk
DataONTAP - var.vmdk
DataONTAP-var - flat hard
I put this vsphere on the data store file and extract it to ssh connection on esxi with the command "tar".
All files are now visible to PuTTY connection on esxi
1 / but when I browse datastore, I see not all vmdk files. (missing 126 files on disk)
2 / when I turn, this virtual machine, I have this error "DataONTAP - sim.vmdk file not found on /vmfs/volumes.../.
But this file exist on the path specified error.
Configuration:
ESXi 5.1, NFS datastore.
Stand-alone node (without cluster)
No vcenter
Spatial data store are free and available.
Checksum for this tar file are OK.
Thank you very much
Concerning
The files in the archive are the data files, and not the descriptor. I guess DataONTAP - sim.vmdk is the file descriptor for these files DataONTAP - sXXX.vmdk . To ensure that this is the case, please attach the DataONTAP - sim.vmdk.
If this is the case, here are the steps that should make the usable virtual machine:
- load the muliextent module
vmkload_mod multiextent - Rename the virtual disk file to a temporary file name
vmkfstools EI DataONTAP - sim.vmdk DataONTAP-sim - old.vmdk - clone the virtual disk in a format supported the original file name
vmkfstools-i DataONTAP-sim - old.vmdk DataONTAP - sim.vmdk - d thin - an ide - unload the module multiextent
multiextent vmkload_mod-u
At this point, you should be able to turn on the virtual machine. If everything works as expected, you can delete all the temporary files of DataONTAP-sim-old * hard .
André
- load the muliextent module

I downloaded and used a test of Lightroom, several days ago. I've used and have a library, but now, when I try to use it today, my pictures seem to be there in the library but when I try to start working on a new picture, I get a ' file not found message.» How can I go back in my files?
There are a number of options available when you choose to import files to your catalog in Lightroom (library)
1 copy / copy as DNG, this option allows you to copy files of origin from their existing location, for example a folder on an existing, promenade, internal, external, a reader of card or a camera SD card connected to the computer via a USB port, to a location of your choice, in a folder of a HARD internal, external HARD disk drive or a network drive on your choice.
2. move. This option allows you to move files of origin of their location, for example a folder on an existing drive, internal or external to a new location of your choice, in a folder of a drive HARD internal, external HARD disk or a network drive on your choice. (the Move option you cannot move files from a card or your camera.)
3. ADD., this option allows you to add image files to the catalog of their location, for example a folder on an existing drive, internal, external or network drive and the original images remain in their current location.
The original image file will be located at the location of your choice.
There are no image files in your catalog (or library) file the original files are in the location you choose.
If you choose to add files to your catalog from an external drive, then unplug the player from your computer, then Lightroom which will show the 'file not found '.

The 11 workstation, I receive the following error message, try to start a copied virtual machine:
File not found: C:\Share\Copy drive\Windows C VM XP Professional XP model 50 GB-000005-cl1-000014 - cl1.vmdk
This file is required to power on this virtual machine. If this file has been moved, specify the new location
The. VMX file stated that:
scsi0:1.present = 'TRUE '.
scsi0:1.filename = "C:\Share\Copy of the drive\Windows of VM XP C XP Professional model 50 GB-000005-cl1-000014 - cl1.vmdk.
scsi0:1.mode = "independent-persistent."
But these lines have been deleted. I have attached the edited VMX file that causes Workstation generating the error.
If this VMDK file is specified is no longer in the VMX file, where Workstation becomes the name of the file when it produces the error message? Why it generates this error message?
The steps that I've taken to try to resolve this problem:
1. close and re-open my computer.
2 reboot the host (Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials)
I am answering my own question here. The problem turned out to be in the virtual machine. VMSD file. The file apparently contains a 'roadmap' of snapshots and registrations for the drive there, I removed from the. VMX file. After removing the references to these pictures inside of the. VMSD file, I still met a configuration error because the number of snapshots is always set to '2 '. This isn't the number of snapshots that you would normally think during a snapshot; on the contrary, it is the number of virtual drives for which there are snapshots. After making the following change:
snapshot.numSnapshots = '1 '.
the virtual machine starts to the right without any problem.

File not found: Boot Camp partition.vmdk
Help! I recently replaced the HD in my MacBook Pro, then to backup cloned the OSX partition, re-created the Boot Camp partition and restored from an image of Winclone. Start directly on Boot Camp works very well. However. Fusion 2.0.1 I see the Boot Camp partition (power off), but when I start it up I have the msg: file not found: Boot Camp partition.vmdk. This file is supposed to be in the OSX or the Boot camp partition? Projector can't find anything in the OSX partition. What should I do?
Note: These steps assume that you have a default Apple installation of Windows and a VMware Fusion Boot Camp Virtual Machine default partition and if you changed the Boot Camp partition the Virtual Machine to add additional hard disks to be virtual or RAW disk then do not use these instructions unless you backup the Boot Camp partition the Virtual Machine package first.
1. If the merger is open, close it.
2. in a Terminal (/ Applications/Utilities/Terminal) copy and paste command, as the following and then press Enter and it will remove the Boot Camp Virtual Machine meta-data partition. Note: This does not affect the Boot Camp partition to install Windows. Also make sure that you copy the entire command below "rm" line at the beginning of the ' (quote) after the p in the Camp. "
RM - dfr "/Users/$ the specified item was not found./Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines / Boot Camp."
3. start Fusion (/ Applications/VMware Fusion.app) and select the Boot Camp partition on the library of the Virtual Machine window, and then click the run button.
Notes: Then, an authentication dialog box appears. "VMware Fusion requires that you type your password." Enter your name and password, and then click OK. (It is necessary to remove the Boot Camp for the merge partition to access it directly).
Then, we should see a Boot Camp partition message stating "VMware Fusion prepares your Boot Camp partition to run as a virtual machine. This may take a few minutes. This occurs once. »
When the virtual partition Boot Camp Machine starts for the first time after this VMware Tools may want or will install/update and restart the virtual partition Boot Camp Machine.

I tried to download a new one (for mac, British English), but it says "file not found".Don't know what to do.
The current versions of Firefox requires OS X 10.6 or later, so if you want to continue using Firefox beyond Firefox 16, you must upgrade to OS X 10.6.8 or later version.
Firefox 16.0.2 is the last version that works on an Intel Mac with OS OS X 10.5.
