vmk0 behind a together group of NIC

I have a temporary need to do this, the network adapters are configured as an LACP trunk on the procurve and the vSwitch has NIC Teaming the value:

Load Balancing-road based on IP Hash

State of the failover detection-Link network only

Notify the switches-Yes

Restoration-Yes

But shortly after that I loose connectivity and ILO will need to connect to the consoel where I notice the setting management of NICs is bound to a single network adapter which I assume may not work as the procurve switch has all the configuration of ports in an LACP trunk?

Any ideas?

Thank you

Hello

LACP is supported only (so far) on the implementation of the distributed switch from Cisco (Nexus 1000 V). http://VMware.com/files/PDF/technology/cisco_vmware_virtualizing_the_datacenter.PDF

So better is to simply configure trunking VLAN on natachasery all connected and to install across all load balancing the natachasery. If you have enough natachasery, consider booking two natachasery and connect them to a group of ports separate vSwitch or dvSwitch for traffic management and VMotion and put them in a team of recovery.

Hope that helps.

  • GROUPING OF NICS ESX

I need to understand the collection of NETWORK adapters so I can understand the flow of traffic and models and failover.

Bare with me if I ask very simple questions...

The scenario I have in mind is a blade server, but I guess that the question applies to any server. So for simplicity, lets use servers in a rack mount...

Suppose a half rack with 2 network cards that are associated with one of the 3 grouping mechanisms used in ESX. With the consolidation of NETWORK cards, there's never a physical NETWORK card that is inactive, correct? According to oither, two interface cards physical network in the team will have traffic passes through them - IE the load balancing/sharing. Isn't it?

    vmware forum.jpg

Based on hashed IP NIC teaming will most likely a simple VM with a unique vNIC to use two physical network cards (depending on the workflow). And although based on the port and on MAC do not allow a virtual machine to use two physical network adapters, it will very probably an ESXi host with multiple virtual machines to use two physical network adapters. Therefore, any type of grouping of NETWORK cards is used, it is very likely that the physical NIC in the team will be forwardign traffic - perhaps at different levels, but nevertheless, both will be active.

Yes, both the natachasery in the team can be active according to the flow of traffic and the grouping policy. Even if a single virtual machine cannot use several uplinks if it is configured with at least 2 cards policy network based on the Port and MAC. With IP-political Hash, it is possible for an adapter single virtual machine to use multiple uplinks if the destination addresses are different. Addition to these is LBT (as Andre mentioned), it will monitor uplinks and if one of the uplink is saturated (greater than 75% by default), it will move the virtual machine to another uplink traffic.

Apart from the docs shared by others, I suggest you to watch pt.3 of "Great VSwitch debate"... I found it very useful for me.

  • Grouping of NICs in the guest operating system

We have 4 ESX servers each containing cards of 4 GB for the production traffic. These are combined to form a 4 GB pipe to the Cisco switch. Our guest VM is rc2 for windows 2008 and my problem is that I need to know if its possible to team within the virtual machine NIC windows 2008.

We have 4 NIC physical that teamed up to form 4 GB pipe to cisco switch 2008 physical windows with the same configuration of network servers

If I copy a file of 5 GB from one physical server to another physical server, it takes about 70 seconds (which is great). If I copy the file of one of the physical servers to one of my VM servers it takes longer than 3 minutes (not good).

If I copy the same file between 2 servers on the same ESX host it takes also more than 3 minutes (not good)

If my theory is right, then I think the bottleneck is the fact that my VM servers only have one NIC 1 Gb so ideally, I wish I could make team a pair of network adapters in a virtual machine and repeat the test.

Any information on how to network within the guest virtual machine team interface cards would be appreciated.

    Thank you

VM NIC teaming is useless in most of the cases, in particular that. 3 minutes is equivalent to 27 MB/s, which is only 25 to 30% speed to 1 GB.

Run a pure network Guide, in your case system disk can be a bottleneck.

  • How to resize pin tabs / deal with problems of Group tab in Firefox 22?

With the automatic update of Firefox 22, my pinned tabs have swelled in size; not only this horrible aspect, but it reduces the real estate available for the other tabs. While NoSquint has solved the problem with websites randomly resizing themselves, everything else (menu add-on, toolbar icons) has also increased in size, which affects what can be displayed.

Another problem with 22, this is my tab groups are there is more normally: I click a group and another group moves around the screen, usually jump behind the original group I clicked on. Suggestions to improve these problems are very popular.

Hello, firefox 22 is now about the density of pixels you have upgraded to system in Control Panel > appearance > display. more information on this topic is available at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/make-the-text-on-your-screen-larger-or-smaller

If you want to set the text size/pixel density in firefox is different that your system settings as it has been addressed in previous versions, enter about: config in the address bar of firefox (confirmed the message information where it appears) and search for the preference named layout.css.devPixelsPerPx. Double-click it and change its value to 1.0 (or any zoom factor that fits your purpose; 0.8 is equal to 80%, 1.15 is 115% and so on...,-1.0 is the default and will comply with the configuration of the system).

  • How the Virtual Machine port group communication?

How the Virtual Machine port group communication?

Port group is virtual aggregation of ports on vSwitch. A vSwitch can have multiple Port groups which separate the different network traffic. Port groups communicate with vSwitch, and we have physical network maps on vSwitch which establish communication with the external network. We can configure security, NIC teaming, traffic shapping nework political and at the level of the port groups. Once the port group is created, we can assign to vNIC

    How to establish communication?

Public network > Switch L3 Core > ESXi physical adapter > vSwitch > groups > virtual NIC > Virtual Machine

Virtual machine connect to the physical map using vNIC coming on Port groups. This is how it works.

  • NIC Teaming recommended

    Hi all

I would like to enable the consolidation of NETWORK cards in my ESXi 5.0 environment. Below is given my details to set up the laboratory.

    3 ESXi 5.0 servers

ESXi all have 4 NIC cards

    Requirement: -.

Grouping of NETWORK adapters for virtual machines (VM running in their own VIRTUAL local area network)

I want to activate the grouping of NIC for VM in vSwitch1 and VM will be in the VLAN. I provide 2 NIC to the VM, 1 NETWORK card will be given to the Management Console, 1 NETWORK card will be for vMotion.

Please find below the attached screenshot.

    NIC Teaming.JPG

Please suggest your views on this topic How to proceed on this matter.

No need to modify the policy at all. Since my first post:

-Configure the VLAN 100 management network and set active =, = vmnic1 vmnic0 paused on the port group

-Add a port group vMotion with VLAN 101 and set vmnic0 = standby, vmnic1 = active on the port group

With this configuration, you would have two vSwitches with two uplinks from each. The first for management/vMotion configured as described above and the vSwitch for the networking of virtual machines with two NICs paid on assets.

  • OsCustomizationSpec and OSCustomizationNicMapping they are a good way to set up the new virtual machine for the model

I build a script to generate auto magicly VM when I have import information from a csv file. I have the latest PowerCli, I am trying to build servers r2 Sever 2012 model.  I tried several OsCustomizationSpec (OCS) of in the hope of getting something to work, but I had no luck so far.  In VCenter, it shows that it applies the OCS, but is not apear to have an impact on the server.  I have disabled UAC since the last time that I tried it so maybe that will make a difference.  I am under ESXi 5.1 update 2, just to try to give all the necessary information.  Ideally, I'd like Sysprep, the value of intellectual property, change the computer name and join the server to the domain.  That's all! lol I have the book "VMware vSphere PowerCLI Reffernece, automating vSphere Administration, I walked through step by step.  The new version of PowerCli seems not have the x 86 limitation as earlier versions of PowerCli.  I tried so many different things, I'm not sure what to put in place as a starting point.

    # Save the object credentials with permission to join the domain.
    $DomainCredentials = get-Credential "domain\testername."
    # Clone our Spec by adding the domain information.
    $Spec = get-OSCustomizationSpec "Windows Server 2012 R2"
    $Spec += get-OSCustomizationNicMapping - Spec $Spec
    #$Spec | Select *.

    # Get our VM
    # Change network settings
    Get - VM BigServername | Get-NetworkAdapter | Together-NetworkAdapter - NetworkName nic - 172.16.25 - VLAN225 - connected: $true '

    Get - VM "BigServername" |
    Set-VM - OSCustomizationSpec "R2 Windows Server 2012" - confirm: $false |
    Start-VM

I can rebuild the model, or something else, we must do this work.

OR - is simply not the best way to configure the VM?  If not, what Sysprep?

Good news, but first, I would really like to know where the log files are on which server to the OsCustomization process.

I decided to reverse engineer and create a CSOS within vCeneter and once I got to work, I kept creating new CSO via PowerCli until I could get that to work, create a new virtual machine.  Once I got this to work, I have tryied to apply on a cloned vm, with no parameters. I got it works too.  I tried to go back to my original image, but I couldn't get this to work.  Something's wrong with this picture.  He wrath that the problem was related to the permissions on the local client.

This seems to be very picky.  Because the area is one of the parameters, you cannot put it in the DomainUsername, no dom\dadmin. The part that I really want to know how to get more, is what happens if your vm has a different local administrator as the administrator account.  It turns out that FullName - is not the account that it to connect locally with tires. I think that it is good to know that the virtual machine reboot 4 or 5 times as it goes through this process.  It breaks is you try and do something for the virtual machine that interrupt the process.  I don't know that I'll think more questions in a second.

In addition, it cost he had some problems with the put between quotation marks, single or double around the password, but I did not check this again, I just know that once I took them, he began to work.  I ran on other issues while testing as I was using a single IP address, so if I do not disable the test VM, the following would not work because of the conflct network, maybe I shouldn't admit that... lol

  • Check the configuration of my management network please?

    I'm working on the settings described in this article of yellow brick, but I don't know that I was right;

    http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2011/03/22/ESXi-management-network-resiliency/

I have two vmnic added to vswitch0, vmnic0, and vmnic10.

    2013-06-27_11-02-34.jpg

I have this vswitch groups of two ports, one for vmk1 vmotion and the other for management vmk0.

Tab grouping the vmotion port group NIC I specify vmnic10 as an active adapter and vmnic0 as before with backspace set to no.

    2013-06-27_10-56-42.jpg

On the NIC teaming tab management port network group I do the opposite, vmnic10 is in standby and vmnic0 is active, but with BACKSPACE value again.

    2013-06-27_10-57-06.jpg

    Is it OK so far?

What I am ultimately confused by vswitch NIC teaming tab configuration is two adapters program active since they are each active for a group of different ports this vswitch? and should restore the value not in this tab as well?

    2013-06-27_10-56-14.jpg

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The first thing I noticed: you use the same subnet for your management and vmotion traffic.

Use VLANs and put on separate segments (vMotion traffic is not encryted).

  • with vSphere and Dell MD3000i iSCSI design

I installed a server ESX 4 (the first of three for this cluster), and a SAN Dell MD3000i iSCSI connected through two switches Dell PowerConnect 2816.

Now I read the VMware 'iSCSI SAN configuration guide', and I wanted to just make sure I did the design correcly.

I have connected a Teddy ESX (vmnic1) to one of the pSwitch and another (vmnic5) in the second. This pSwitch SAN iSCSI ports are connected, so that one of the switches carry the 10.10.10.x subnet and the other the 10.10.11.x (see IP plan below)

The two natachasery have a vSwitch each (a do not share), a portgroup each and are configured on different subnets, IP (see attached screenshot)

    Plan of intellectual property:

    Port iSCSI-10 group (VMkernel): 10.10.10.1

    Port group iSCSI-11 (VMkernel): 10.10.11.1

    0-0 SAN controller: 10.10.10.10

    SAN 0-1 controller: 10.10.11.10

    Controller 1-0 San: 10.10.10.11

    SAN 1-1 controller: 10.10.11.11

By using this configuration, I could see four different paths for each LUN. and I was able to make the ESX Server will switch to different switches/controllers as I unplug the vmnic1 network cables and vmnic5, one at a time.

Then I found the section on 'esxcli' configuration guide and multipathing configuration, which I carried out in accordance with the instructions ("esxcli swiscsi nic add - n vmk0 d vmhba34" and "esxcli swiscsi nic add - n vmk1 vmhba34 d ')

Now I have eight different paths for each logic unit number, three of whom are 'Active' and an 'active (i/o)' (see my screen attached the capture).

    So, my questions are:

    1. the eight paths to each LUN really normal in designs of iSCSI?

    2. is my vSwitch/Teddy/pSwitch correct design choices?

    Thanks in advance!

    / Anders

    @hennish,

As long as your new design continues to meet your needs of failover and workload, your infrastructure design should be fine.

But you might want to take a look at this design Dell. In particular, step 12 that configures multiple paths in round-robin policy using the VI GUI client, for

Each LUN exposed to the ESX Server. This allows balancing on two

Active paths to the LUN. After completing this step, you should see2 "IO Active" paths.

    Kind regards
