VMware Certification questions

Hello

I am very new to VMware Certifications. I'm totally confused. I'm just starting with certifications, but don't know where to start.

I am reasonably comfortable with the products ESXi and vSphere. Should I start VCA or Collect? Also should I go with flow of cloud or a Data Center workflow? I suppose that the flow of Data Center.

Sorry for the newbie questions.

If I want to write VCP550, Certification page also indicates that I should study one of the four events:

VMware vSphere: install, configure, manage [5.5]

OR

VMware vSphere: optimize and scale [5.5]

OR

VMware vSphere: Troubleshooting workshop [V5.1]

OR

vSphere with operations management: Fast Track.

All these four documents seem to have different syllabus. Say that I take a class for VMware vSphere: install, configure, manage [5.5] and will be VMWare know that I took this class and ask questions accordingly?

I know that in those above a lot of 4 documents of subjects overlap. But I'm still worried.

Thanks and advance

Shri Ganesh

> But please confirm this will to VMWare issue according to the class that I took!

Review of VCP550 is based on the examination plan and the questions you get are not you took the class.

Take the course that best meets your needs, then pass the examination plan and make sure you are well informed about the objectives.

    Hi all

I'm new to VMware certification, if you are looking for clarification on certain issues.

I have the offer of Indian society for VCP Certification. (Online & good to review training)

NOW my Question is, if I had this training then used this review voucher in my country, I'm certified or I have to follow a training of local society, also how can I understand if this company partner with VM or not

If I had this training then used this review voucher in my country, I'm certified or I have to follow a training of the local company?

Both training programs and certification are global, you can take the exam in any country no matter where you attend the training.

How can I understand if this company partner with VM or not?

What is the name of the company? They need to be a VMware authorized training center.

You can see if their courses are listed on the website of VMware here: VMware education - courses by location

  • advice on the first VMWare certification for a beginner.

I'm looking to get my first vmware certification. Something that will not be for a long time so I can get motivated to keep going further certifications.

My experience with vmware has implemented via vcenter servers, using models to build servers, have built esix hosts, created esxi clusters, knowledge of vmotion.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Since you are already experienced with VMware datacenter product, I highly recommend you take a look at the path of the certification VMware Data Center Virtualization: http://mylearn.vmware.com/portals/certification/

You can start taking the VCA - VTC, which is not a requirement of class and you can take the test online... Another option is to go directly to VCP - VTC, but you will need a requirement of class and to test on Pearson VIEW.

See the following links for more information:

(VCA - VTC) VCA-data center virtualization

    (VCP5-VTC) VCP-Data Center Virtualization

  • Some indications on the VMWare Certification.

    Hello

I currently work as a Storage Administrator (especially EMC Symmetrix - DMX and VMAX and some Clariion/VNX). Planning to learn VMWare.

Due to certain financial commitments, I have to do with computing resources at hand, namely VMWare and certify you.

All I have is a laptop with 8 GB of RAM. She's. I don't know if that will be enough for me to learn from VMWare. For some reason, Windows 7 hangs on this laptop, so will install Linux instead. I will be really grateful if someone could let me know if,

    (1) I'll be able to learn at least the basics of VMWare Vsphere with what I have? I intend to install VMWare Workstation 9. Then install the version of ESXi 5 inside, and inside of that test, I'll install a guest operating system. What to do or there at - it another way to learn it?

    (2) what Linux OS will be the best as a host operating system? Something that will have a small footprint and let me do the things mentioned above? I have been through the support matrix page, and CentOS 6.3 seems to be better. Has anyone tried what I intend to try?

    (3) how much time does take on average IT person to grasp concepts of VMWare and get the certification?

    (4) apart from the documentation available on the site, is there a most recommended book that will help me reach my goal? If so, please tell me the title of the book.

If all the questions sound evil/stupid, please pardon me. My only experience so far has been with VMWare Player. I want to do this so that I can learn how VMWare and become a VCP. I understand that, for the certification, training attendance is a term, so save a few bucks for that .

Well, I don't want to get certified and do with it. I really want to understand and be comfortable with VMWare and then go to the certification.

    Please help me.

Hello and welcome to the communities.

    (1) I'll be able to learn at least the basics of VMWare Vsphere with what I have? I intend to install VMWare Workstation 9. Then install the version of ESXi 5 inside, and inside of that test, I'll install a guest operating system. What to do or there at - it another way to learn it?

Yes you can. 8 GB of RAM is your limiting factor, but you can make this work. The workstation on an approach of the laptop is ideal for a number of different reasons (portable, cheap, better learning of the concepts of virtualization) and don't hinder you in many ways. Chances are the limits you will find here exist also in a physics lab, unless you had a lot of money to put into it.

    (2) what Linux OS will be the best as a host operating system? Something that will have a small footprint and let me do the things mentioned above? I have been through the support matrix page, and CentOS 6.3 seems to be better.  Has anyone tried what I intend to try?

Stick with a distro that you already know, or one that has good community support around it. Ubuntu and CentOS times would be nice, and I used both workstation lab approach.

    (3) how much time does take on average IT person to grasp concepts of VMWare and get the certification?

It always depends on your set of skills of background, experience and base. Given the context of storage will certainly help. There are many concepts that fit in here.

    (4) apart from the documentation available on the site, is there a most recommended book that will help me reach my goal? If so, please tell me the title of the book.

Scott Lowe "Mastering VMware vSphere 5 ' is a great book. Duncan Epping and Frank Denneman "VMware vSphere 5.1 Deepdive of Clustering" is also essential reading in my opinion. I have a VCP5 study guide available and also available from VMware Press. No matter what approach you take, make sure you get a copy of the plan Director review and make sure you learn (or know how to) each of the objectives listed there.

    Good luck!

I am currently finishing my computer networking degree from ITT. (a lot of good that will do me)

But... I need to get some made certifications to get a job.  My question is, is anyone know where I can get practice tests or study guides that are free or cheaper then what is online?  MCSC, virtual machine in addition to recommendations for certain certificates... I already get, hopefully.

  • Hardware certification - Question of Type of SCSI controller

Controller SCSI of VM types are defined in the Certification Guide of compulsory storage?

I installed Windows 2008 Server on a virtual machine with the type of LSI Logic SAS controller (that I see, I can't change it prior to installation) and after that the installation has been completed and VM booted ok I put off and then changed the type of controller for VMware Paravirtual. VM could not start. I changed the type of controller to LSI Logic parallel and got the same result - VM could not start Windows.

Can I use LSI Logic SAS on all virtual machines where I can not change the type of controller or it will not pass the verification test?

    Thank you in advance.

The reason why it cannot start, it is that there is no driver installed for it.

To work around this, add another controller of the new type, start windows and install the driver, then stop switch the premiera autour and you should be fine.

  • VMware product: Question on memory and resources

    Hello VMware community and others.

I have a question about VMware. I can't understand some things, so I need help.

    1. can I create virtual MEMORY (as my physical in my computer memory) hard disk and use it for the memory of the VM?

(I thing anything like a (vmdk) file that will simulate the physical memory in a certain proportion without my)

memory of the computer, only with a file on my hard drive)!

    Can I do it?

    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the community - with VMware Workstation you are limited to the amount of memory installed on the host computer - by the documentation of the work - station

The total amount of memory you can assign to all virtual machines running on a single host machine is

limited only by the amount of RAM on the host machine - page 12 of http://www.vmware.com/pdf/ws80-using.pdf

With vSphere, you can overcommitt memory

  • VMWare certification

    Hello

I'm new in the world of VMWare, usually I work with Hyper-V, if I want to take the exam VCP - VTC, it is a must to take VCA first? or I can jump in to secure Channel?

    Thank you!

I think you can skip collect. CERT VCA is not required to take the exam VCP - VTC, but the free course of VCA was a good review. Before taking the exam VCP - VTC, you should take a class of Vmware, as vSphere: install, configure, manage [5.5] or vSphere: Fast Track [5.5])

  • VMware networking question

Hi people out there. First time poster in the hope of getting some ideas. Here's some information and what I'm trying to accomplish.

So I set up a VMware environment for me and a friend to me so that we can play with ESXi and virtual systems and configurations.

My home system has 1.5 to storage and 32 GB of memory, so I decided to use my system to be the host.

With the help of VMware Workstation 9, I created a virtual machine with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage to use for our game environment. I installed the ESXi host on this virtual machine (Yes a VM will be my virtual machine host).

-J' have the host connected to VMware Network Adapter VMnet8 from my PC to give it a different IP subnet separate from my primary home network on 192.168.65.x

-J' have a Terminal Server running Windows Server 2008 R2 as my first virtual machine with 2 network cards virtual

-J' have a second vSwitch systems to connect to my home network primary 192.168.1.x. whose purpose is specifically to the server terminal server, so I can route RDP on the internet for the TS.

-I don't want my virtual systems with access to the main network (beyond the Terminal Server computer) and I don't want ALL of the virtual machines to have internet access on a network.

-My level of router, I have internet blocks from the host and IP address on the second card of the server terminal server. Then I'm OK.

Here's my problem. Power of the internet on the TS works that until I got disabling the adapter connected to the 192.168.1.x. I can always get internet access through the 192.168.65.x of my main PC adapter. All my other virtual machines will be connected to the reseau.65 so they are not using my primary network traffic and I don't want them having access to my internet. I want to just beyond the server terminal server itself, being separated from my home network and that you have access to its own internal virtual reseau.65 and nothing outside of it. I know individually, I can specify an IP address and just put the default gateway to something like 0.0.0.0 and which effectively blocks this system to have internet, but I don't want to have to rely on set up this configuration or pressing the friend who will use to access this virtual network to do this in any new VM he created RDP. I want to do in the world in terms of network, if I can.

Any thoughts are appreciated. If I failed to point out anything please let me know and I'll try to explain.

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the community,

If I understand your requirement, all that you need to do is to open the virtual network Editor, create a new 'Host-Only' virtual network adapter (uncheck the box "connect an adapter to the virtual host in the network) and use this new host only instead of NAT network adapter.

  • VMWARE PLAYER QUESTIONS?

We have a Windows XP pro 32-bit system that has been converted into an image of the system using VMware Server, version unknown.    When the image was created the following files were produced, shown in the form of code snippet below.  Can someone tell me why it would create two file extensions separated during this process.   The ultimate goal is to get this image to run inside vmplayer 6 and I have the most difficult time to get this working.  It is my understanding that the hard files are the key here.  Do I have to rename the files .vmd to hard extensions or do the reverse?  Should I put all the files in the directory Libraries\Documents\Virtual Machines\WindowsXpPro c:\\?  What should I remove this directory after the creation of the machine?

Since it is was created using VMware server does count as a restricted machine? Will it take to buy VMware player more to do this job?

    Capture.PNG

If all the files required for a given virtual machine exist in the same folder, then all that is needed to start the virtual machine is to use the reader > file > open... and select the .vmx config file or simply double-click the configuration from Windows Explorer .vmx file!   If it does not load and run correctly something is wrong and you want more information to investigate.

  • Retrieve data VMware upgrade - Question

We are currently running vCenter 4.1 and are preparing to move to vCenter 5.1.  We have a camera VDR version 1.2 with a backing store (RDM).  I'm looking through the instructions here to upgrade (for version 2.0.1)

    http://www.VMware.com/support/VDR/doc/vdr_200_releasenotes.html

The first steps mentioned allows you to install the latest data retrieve plug-in.  Lower on this page, another step is to remove the data store on the former unit of VDR.  VDR 1.2 is available with the new plugin VDR under vCenter 5.1 2.0.1?  Or will we need to disassemble the backup store 1.2 VDR before upgrading vCenter version 5.1 and the VDR plugin to 2.0.1?  From what I have ready it does not appear that the version VDR 1.2 device will be compatible with vCenter 5.1.

    Thank you

No version of VDR is compatible in 5.1. It's only VDP 5.1 from.
