VMware networking question

Hi people out there. First time poster in the hope of getting some ideas. Here's some information and what I'm trying to accomplish.

So I set up a VMware environment for me and a friend to me so that we can play with ESXi and virtual systems and configurations.

My home system has 1.5 to storage and 32 GB of memory, so I decided to use my system to be the host.

With the help of VMware Workstation 9, I created a virtual machine with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage to use for our game environment. I installed the ESXi host on this virtual machine (Yes a VM will be my virtual machine host).

-J' have the host connected to VMware Network Adapter VMnet8 from my PC to give it a different IP subnet separate from my primary home network on 192.168.65.x

-J' have a Terminal Server running Windows Server 2008 R2 as my first virtual machine with 2 network cards virtual

-J' have a second vSwitch systems to connect to my home network primary 192.168.1.x. whose purpose is specifically to the server terminal server, so I can route RDP on the internet for the TS.

-I don't want my virtual systems with access to the main network (beyond the Terminal Server computer) and I don't want ALL of the virtual machines to have internet access on a network.

-My level of router, I have internet blocks from the host and IP address on the second card of the server terminal server. Then I'm OK.

Here's my problem. Power of the internet on the TS works that until I got disabling the adapter connected to the 192.168.1.x. I can always get internet access through the 192.168.65.x of my main PC adapter. All my other virtual machines will be connected to the reseau.65 so they are not using my primary network traffic and I don't want them having access to my internet. I want to just beyond the server terminal server itself, being separated from my home network and that you have access to its own internal virtual reseau.65 and nothing outside of it. I know individually, I can specify an IP address and just put the default gateway to something like 0.0.0.0 and which effectively blocks this system to have internet, but I don't want to have to rely on set up this configuration or pressing the friend who will use to access this virtual network to do this in any new VM he created RDP. I want to do in the world in terms of network, if I can.

Any thoughts are appreciated. If I failed to point out anything please let me know and I'll try to explain.

Thank you!

Welcome to the community,

If I understand your requirement, all that you need to do is to open the virtual network Editor, create a new 'Host-Only' virtual network adapter (uncheck the box "connect an adapter to the virtual host in the network) and use this new host only instead of NAT network adapter.

    Hello

    We expect a breakdown of regular network on our vmware network where routers core serving vmware will be rebboted and we lose network connectivity to vmware infrastructure for an hour.

    I have 2 groups with a different configuration, and I was wondering how I can do things of course continue to run smoothly during the network failure.

    First group

    HA, DRS is enabled

    Enable Host verified monitoring

    disabled admission control

    machine virtual auto policy support

    host isolation respopnse leave it turned on

    VM monitoring only

    high sensitivity of surveillance

    Fully automated DRS

    Second group

    HA, DRS is enabled

    Enable Host verified monitoring

    admission control enabled

    machine virtual auto policy support

    judgment of host isolation respopnse

    VM monitoring with disabilities

    high penetrating surveillance

    Fully automated DRS

    In the past, I have disabled HA and DRS implement manual mode and after blackout netwok is over, I'll activate HA and DRS fully automated chenage.

    Y at - it another way to disable HA and ensure that the virtual machine and the host continues to run. Also, I have some virtual machines that either have no vmware tools installed or they must be updated. If all goes well, which does not affect HA.

    Thank you

    just my opinion, but I depend on to untick the box "enable Host Monitoring." Even if that's exactly what this function is, for me, I would feel more at ease by disabling HA all together at an event of network maintenance planned.

  • Networking question in VMware Workstation / nested ESXi network configuration problem

    Hi guys,.

    I am trying to set up a virtual lab, I setup a domain, a vcenter server and up to 1 ESXi host controller.

    I am really struggling with the network aspect in establishing a vmnic for storing shared, please see the attached screenshots and a few questions:

    1. Is a vmnic a real network map? or vmnic correspond to "network adapters" that you put in place since the setting of your virtual machine?

    I followed a tutorial and implement 3 NICs on the ESXi host, in Bridge mode, I tried this in my configuration of vmworkstation and I lose the connection to my server vcenter to the ESXi host.

    See screenshot attached to how I configured my ESXi host, screenshot is called 'screenshot2esxihost network', I run got each of the maps defined on NAT network.

    screenshot2esxihost network.JPG

    See also the screenshot of how I have my configuration of network settings in my VMWare Workstation, screenshot is called "screenshot1. the tutorial does not show how it has its editor of the virtual network configuration, but it puts its ESXi host NICs in BRIDGED mode, and I'm guessing that you can set this time within the virtual network adapter. If someone could tell me what changes should I make in there and on the network cards in my ESXi host, which would be really useful.

    screenshot1.JPG

    My domain controller, server ESXi hosts and vcenter are currently on the 192.168.86 range, which currently stood at NAT

    See also a screenshot from the vsphere client - I don't see a vmnic "vmnic0", my goal is to be able to add a "vmnic2" for a separate storage network.

    screenshot3 unable to add anymore vmnics.JPG

    any help would be received with gratitude, I VCP510 review at the end of the month and really hope to be able to get my lab setup as soon as possible.

    The vmnic is the rising 'physical' of an ESXi host. So with the 3 network cards that you configured for the host in VMware Workstation you will see under "Network adapters" and you can use them to vSwitches in the section "network".

  • VMWare Oracle network question

    We currently have an Oracle server, that has a connection LACP on 4 network cards to 1 GB for a netapp FAS2040.   Unfortunately it is a failure then we will create a virtual machine.  We have it online right now, but I have a question.  VMWare server has 4 1 GB NICs to shared resources on a single VMXNET 3 NIC will be able to push as much traffic that may 4 NICs trunked?  Or do I need to create a similar configuration?  Has anyone else made something like that?

    Thanks in advance.

    Vmxnet3 supports up to 10 Gb/sec transfer rate. So you can have your uplinks on LACP certainly and present 1 virtual nic VMXNET3 virtual machine speeds, even if your bottleneck will most likely be that you'RE Ops / s disc.

    See this document for more detailed information on the performance of VMXNET3

  • VMware Workstation 7.1.2 - Linux networking questions

    I am on Windows 7 and I have a Ubuntu 10.10 I can't accept an IP address. I don't know if my question is Ubuntu configurations or VMware. I have a NETWORK adapter that is set to Custom (VMnet7) which I configured with DHCP. My goal was to implement a custom network (VMnet7) so that they can communicate without an external connection. I added Windows clients and receive DHCP addresses without problem. When I add my Ubuntu box, he does not get the IP address. I have the set eth0

    Auto eth0

    iface eth0 inet dhcp

    When I restart the network interface, he seeks an IP address by sending a DHCP request to 255.255.255.255, but never received an answer from, and finally abandoned. This machine has been downloaded from another system and pulled upwards. Any suggestions on the place where to proceed to diagnose the problem?

    FWIW VMware Desktop products already have defined VMnet1 for host only then why the need to create a host only VMnet7?

    Make sure that the client's network card is verified connected.

    What Linux Distro do you use?

    If the suggestion of sflanders does not then archive and attach the vmware.log for this virtual machine files and join a response message.

  • New to vmware - network speed help please

    Hi all

    I recently joined and installed ESXi 5.1.0 Build 799733 on a box tailor-made purely to test many of our customers use it and I need to familiarize myself with it. Everythings went well except 1 perticular question so far. I have 2 vm Win Server 2008 on a test domain that work very well. However my pc if I rdp to one of the servers and start a copy of the file to say 4 GB RDP, its says its will take about 5 hours ago, transferring 1 mb/s all about surely is not fair?

    The server and my pc are on ssd and a local network of 1 GB connection. Ive browsed the forums and found an article on sending disable unloading on the two network cards, which I did, but it remains the question of speed. Someone at - it any guidance please as its really frustrating. I rang vmware for support but was advised to try here before you buy a solution of their own.

    Please remember I'm new on this and don't have much linux background. I hope someone here can help solve it please?

    ESXi Spec:

    1 x 250 GB SSD - running two VMS

    16GB DDR3 1666 mhz

    Intel Core i7 870 processor 2.93 mhz

    Realtek 8168 Gigabit Ethernet - vSphere reports 10MB Full Duplex Auto negotiate (read online that this speed is not serious because it will be more efficient?)

    PC Spec:

    Windows 8

    1 x 250 GB SSD

    8 GB DDR3 1333 mhz

    AMD Phenom II x 6 1055 t.

    Network Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller card

    The two Spec VM:

    4 CPUS (2 virtual Sockets, 2 by heart)

    4 GB of Ram

    E1000 network card (tried other types but without success)

    50GB partition C

    Thanks in advance

    With a 1GBit switch port and a 1GBit "Auto/Auto" NIC (speed and Duplex auto-negotiation) is the recommended setting. If you get a lower speed, or one of the components (switch port, NIC, or network cable) has a problem or your NETWORK card is is simply not supported on ESXi, i.e. the required drivers are missing. In this case, you can get a NETWORK card, or at least one which is known as work.

  • Networking question

    Hi all

    We received to install an infrastructure were we will provide services terminal server on the internet for 5 different companies (in the future, maybe more). Each of these companies must work independently.

    We thought deploy vmware vsphere script to accomplish this task.
    Our question is about securing virtual network for each company on the other. We don't want the company to be able to see the shares of company B etc network I guess the only way to achieve this is implementation of VIRTUAL LANs. Is it the thought of right? If Yes, we are a little confused on vsphere for what products can do exactly what we want.
    Is it just this scenario behind a single WAN IP address and router internal NAT, or have a different WAN IP? How does this affect vsphere deployment?
    We want to deploy "vsphere essentials more" in order to provide backup and services HA and it is because it is a small company, we are a little limited to budget.
    We would appreciate it if we had some professional advice about the above scenario

    Thank you

    VLAN might be a solution.

    To implement the router/firewall between VLANS, you can use a virtual appliance (with multiple NICs for) or a real Firewall (most support trunking VLAN or have multiple network cards).

  • VM networking Questions

    Hello world

    I am a beginner VM user and I thank you for your help in advance ~ ~

    I converted just my Dell server to run on a virtual server (version 2).  Also, I found that the virtual server has an exclamation mark above. Although my original Dell server is running on Broadcom, but he indicated it was AMD PCI network card. Why and how can I change this and function?

    Also, what are the differences between bridge, NAT and host-only? Can give you some examples, so I understand a little better?

    Finally, I would like to make a server running as if it was running on our network (for example, our lan address is 10.10.0.x) with its assigned original address (10.10.0.199).  On the server to the virtual computer that hosts this server virtual has assigned 10.10.0.200. How can I make this work?

    Thank you very much for your help!

    Riderfaiz

    Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of VMware Server 2.x.

    To answer your questions:

    (1) server 2.x, as other products of virtualization, virtualizes the hardware so that you see in your virtual machines does not reflect real hardware. This is to give him the independence of the material which has many advantages as meaning that you could move the virtual machine to a different host with a different network card and it would continue to operate. You will notice that the SCSI controller that is used for discs of ths is also not the same as on your host - even once, is not serious and is an advantage.

    (2) Please take a look at the user guide, in particular the section on networking. Basically, bridged is used when you want to the guest to behave as it is it was a physical machine on the same LAN as the host. NAT gives connectivity to your local network of virtual machines, but not in giving so some extra security on full but this can be changed with the port forwarding NAT (see the user guide). Host is only a network host and guests can communicate on - machines outside the host cannot not is ideal to test isolated networks.

    (3) packed, it's what you want if you want the virtual machine behaves as if it is on your local network. Sounds like it's already getting an address of an external DHCP server DHCP (Server 2.x provides services DHCP for NAT and host-only networking but not filled). To give it the initial INVESTIGATION period, it is sufficient to assign a static address or update the DHCP reservation for its MAC address virtual.

  • Network questions and caused by the Apple TV 4

    My apologies for the long post...

    I bought a new Apple TV 4 this week an upgrade to ATV3. The main reason for this is to get proper access to my subscription of Apple's music on my living room AV setup - it would have been nice to get just a small update on the ATV3 to work well with Apple music!

    In any case, the addition of this innocuous little device seems to have caused all sorts of questions about my home network.

    I have connected the ATV4 using ethernet to my Virgin Super Hub, made the simple configuration via iPad and has proceeded to explore - everything seemed fine. Even downloaded the speedtest excluding interest and who reported a healthy 90 + MB. Made the usual check for updates and this 9.0.1 installed.

    First of all, we noticed the following aspects with the ATV itself:

    1. During the operation, she would bring "no network connection.
    2. By looking at the network settings it shows connected Ethernet but had lost it's previously that would deal with DHCP and DNS details
    3. It does not recover
    4. Just physically remove the cable disconnected and reconnected would force it to find an address - done interesting a different each time. Other devices on the network tend to have the same address (as is usually the behavior, I expect), but he may then lose later
    5. In addition, when it is connected to the speed sometimes fall causing stuttering/buffering of the same Apple music / local libraries
    6. If the ATV4 is awakened from his "sleep" he also still not address
    7. I removed the Ethernet and tried the same thing with Wi - Fi - it presents a similar loss of address - so I conclude its not related to the transport

    I did the usual restart/re-Multi-Power of router, switches and access points - I have an Apple Time Machine (in switch mode + providing a WiFi access point second across the House), over a gigabit 8 ports switch with the Virgin cable router. In no case a network complicated and so far I've had NO problems with the internal network - before the addition of ATV4 we had several wired (Macs, PS4, PS3, Smart TV, home automation) and wireless (ATV3, Blu - ray, another PS3, MacBook, iPads, iPhones, etc.) ANY abnormal behavior of customers well. But still the problem persisted. I had to leave the investigation, but left the ATV on and connected via ethernet.

    Now, here's the next interesting issue. My son said that it could not connect to the WiFI network with his iPhone 6. The phone would see the ads these two WiFi networks, but on the selection or just would not get an address never (even with reboots, restorations, etc.), to the point where he thought the phone had a problem with the hardware (also proposed by the Apple Support). Other devices seemed (at this time) to connect OK, even more reboots to network equipment does not solve this problem. So iPad (already OK) my wife had the same symptoms. A little Google and look on this site of the updated support various complaints about the networks ATV4, slow speeds, etc. - and including an addition can cause the ATV4 hitting on questions to other devices that you try to use the same network. So I turned off the ATV4 and ' hey presto' the phone that don't would not connect worked immediately, iPad & other devices connect and can access the internet + LAN in quick as they did previously.

    Now, of course, this probably isn't a big problem for everyone (otherwise this forum would be full of only those complaints), but I can only conclude that the Apple TV 4 (9.0.1) is at fault. If I just keep the same and pop my old ATV3 instead I get NO such problems.

    That's all very boring, because I also bought a second ATV4 as a Christmas gift for one of my sons. Is it really £300 + in the sewers?

    The other people in this community, see some or all of these questions? Permanently or intermittently? Has anyone received all responses support who can help me? I will of course follow up with Apple myself.

    Now, of course, this probably isn't a big problem for everyone (otherwise this forum would be full of only those complaints), but I can only conclude that the Apple TV 4 (9.0.1) is at fault. If I just keep the same and pop my old ATV3 instead I get NO such problems.

    That's right, that is not a problem for the vast majority of users, in fact I'll go far as to say that I only saw one or two messages with 'Similar' issues. May I suggest you try in another place (maybe a friends or preferably to an Apple store), I'm inclined to think you will find it works perfectly, if it isn't taking it back for a replacement.

  • HP 4101mfp Networked, question

    So I have a HP 4101mfp connected to my network and I have a computer that access.  The 4101mfp has the latest firmware (03.804.6) and is connected by LAN line.  The computer that accesses has installed the most recent driver (5.8.0.17508) and I chose the 'network' connection during installation.  It is also connected through the LAN line to the router as the printer.  Everything is fine and I can print when I have to.

    Now I fix usually issues when I see them in the event viewer on Windows 7 and I found a problem that arises.  Red error event ID 7023 who she is "HP network devices support ended with the following error: the specified module could not be found.  So looking at the autorun, I see that miss me a service file:

    HPSLPSVC is the entrance and the file "hpslpsvc64.dll".  I scanned my system and watched in the HP files that are created when you install the drivers; I can't locate this file.  Can someone direct me to where I can get this file?  Maybe it's somewhere in the installation zip files?  Or if anyone knows if the related service publish in case the Viewer is repairable?

  • Designjet Z3200 Networking question

    I have 2 identical Z3200ps plotters. It runs like a champ, and the other would be if I could understand this last question... adding to my pc to be able to print over the network. I am able to do the plank drawing through i.p. on web page address, and I can even ping plotter. However, when I go to add through devices and printers... nothing. I tried it from a pc Windows 8 and Windows 7. He research and can't find anything. I replaced the trainer and still no go. I could even send a print of the web page of the tracer. Also sent one when you're connected via USB. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!!

    Don't know how or why, but I came this morning, plugged the network cable in the plotter, initialized, and in some sort the IP config had passed from manual back to DHCP and picked up a new address. I changed the config manual, keeping the new IP address. Decided that I would try once more to add the Tracker on the network. You know, the sonofagun worked. I had activated impression more than 9100 last week, thinking the same thing you Milo. But after I did it, there was no change. Maybe it was just to take the time to update? Who knows... but anyway his work and I appreciate all the help.

  • Java networking question

    I have a web service that stores up to some contact information (name, surname, telephone number, etc.) in a JSONObject.  I have then convert this JSONObject to a byte [] and send it to my stream output and eventually to my BB application client.  My client can read the data from the input stream and JSONObject see no problem and display the results.

    I also want to send a contact (the problem) image with the JSONObject.  I don't think that I can store an image in a JSONObject and I can't send JSONObject and byte [] of the image in the same connection, because then the customer can't decipher what's what.

    My question is, how a send time the JSONObject and back to the BlackBerry image?  An image can be converted to bytes and stored in a JSONObject?  Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

    -J

    I think it's possible.

    Tried with org.json.me. Key point is to use Base64 to manage the image (also optimal for networking) string data

    See code:

    class Scr extends MainScreen {
        public Scr() {
            JSONObject o = new JSONObject();
            EncodedImage image1 = EncodedImage.getEncodedImageResource("image.jpg");
            add(new BitmapField(image1.getBitmap()));
            byte[] data1 = image1.getData();

            try {
                String data1Str = Base64OutputStream.encodeAsString(data1, 0, data1.length, false, false);
                o.put("image", data1Str);
            } catch (JSONException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            }

            try {
                System.out.println(o.getString("image"));
            } catch (JSONException e1) {
                e1.printStackTrace();
            }

            byte[] data2 = null;
            try {
                String data2Str = o.getString("image");
                data2 = Base64InputStream.decode(data2Str);
            } catch (JSONException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            }
            EncodedImage image2 = EncodedImage.createEncodedImage(data2, 0, -1);
            add(new BitmapField(image2.getBitmap()));
        }

  • Strange host Networking question

    I have a vmware host in a cluster. The strange thing is that all of a sudden when I go to configuration-> network-> vsphere standard switch, I'm not able to see the VMkernel Port with the IP address assigned to the vmkernel port used to connect to the host to the cluster.

    I have attached two files. screenshot1 comes from other vmware host in the cluster which seems correct that screenshot2 however is the host that is not look right. I can always ping the address which does not appear in the vmkernel port and I can connect to this address using the vsphere client. WTH?

    A help is appreciated.

    Thank you very much

    as you go to the standard switch configuration:

    configuration--> network--> switch vsphere standard

    There you have a tab with distributed switch:

  • VMware Certification questions

    Hello

    I am very new to VMware Certifications. I'm totally confused. I'm just starting with certifications, but don't know where to start.

    I am reasonably comfortable with the products ESXi and vSphere. Should I start VCA or Collect? Also should I go with flow of cloud or a Data Center workflow? I suppose that the flow of Data Center.

    Sorry for the newbie questions.

    If I want to write VCP550, Certification page also indicates that I should study one of the four events:

    VMware vSphere: install, configure, manage [5.5]

    OR

    VMware vSphere: optimize and scale [5.5]

    OR

    VMware vSphere: Troubleshooting workshop [V5.1]

    OR

    vSphere with operations management: Fast Track.

    All these four documents seem to have different syllabus. Say that I take a class for VMware vSphere: install, configure, manage [5.5] and will be VMWare know that I took this class and ask questions accordingly?

    I know that in those above a lot of 4 documents of subjects overlap. But I'm still worried.

    Thanks and advance

    Shri Ganesh

    > But please confirm this will to VMWare issue according to the class that I took!

    Review of VCP550 is based on the examination plan and the questions you get are not you took the class.

    Take the course that best meets your needs, then pass the examination plan and make sure you are well informed about the objectives.

  • vMotion VLAN\Distributed vSwitch Networking question

    I am facing a strange problem and was hoping someone might be able to enlighten. I have a vCenter cluster that contains 5 hosts. Four of the guests standard vSwitches and a host uses a distributed vSwitch. The four hosts who use standard vSwitches have a NETWORK card dedicated for vMotion network. The only host that uses the vSwitch distrubted has two NICS in a team. I followed the instructions listed here to set up the configuration (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2007467)

    Three standard vSwitch hosts are able to ping to the active IP address for the host by using the distributed vSwitch while one of the hosts using a standard vSwitch is unable to ping the host by using the distributed vSwitch.

    If it was a problem with the distributed vSwitch or etherchannel configured on the Cisco switch for the collection of NETWORK adapters, I think that none of the other guests could ping the IP address, but they can. I also confirmed that the vMotion VLAN is configured on all Cisco switches and is to be shared between all hosts resources.

    I am at a loss to explain why a host is unable to communicate with the host distributed vSwitch on the VLAN of vMotion. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    The problem I was experiencing was due to an incorrect configuration. After talking with a technician from VMWare, he explained to me that you should not use a configuration of etherchannel on the switch that connects to NICs hosts vMotion. The reason relates to the policy associated with the map NETWORK load balancing team.

    For etherchannel configuration work, politics of load balancing for the NIC team must be defined, 'route based on IP hash. You are not able to use this strategy to load with vMotion NIC team balancing. The policy load balancing for a correct vMotion NIC team would be 'road based on the original virtual port code '. This is because a NETWORK adapter is active while the other is standby.

    After removing the switch etherchannel configuration and redo my setup according to the above referenced article, guests may communicate on the network of vMotion of appropriately. I asked VMWare technology if there is no indication as to why the three hosts were working while we were not. He did not have an answer and is surprised that these other three hosts were working with the configuration I had initially.
