VMWare Player freezes my ubuntu all 14.04

I use VMWare player to run a Windows 7 comment system, and after a while, my whole system crashes, so I have to turn off my computer at hand.

It happens all the time, sometimes sooner or later.

The _usr_bin_signon - ui.1000.crash.zip you have attached shows that the signon-ui process failed when the function malloc detected that its data structures had been corrupted, and there is nothing in this process which makes use of any VMware components.  I'm not aware of any Player 6.0.4 defects that can cause corruption of the memory of this nature.

My first guess would be that you have a hardware problem.  Please run the system diagnostics to ensure that your memory and processors are reliable.  My usual day to this end is the free Memtest86 +, even if it's been a few years that I've tried...

Thank you

Can I get CentOS based KVM, Hyper-V, etc., nested in VMware Player but not Ubuntu based KVM?  Yes, I know that this subject can inspire some interesting comments, but for those who want to ask why?  Please, I beg you, the answer is, because that's the goal.  KVM nested within VMware Player 6.0.1 based on Ubuntu.  The fact that I can get basic nested KVM CentOS and working in VMware Player as well as Hyper-V, I see no reason why I can't get Ubuntu KVM works.  In fact, I can install KVM in Ubuntu and start a virtual 64-bit machine, but once started I never seem to get any sequence start, or at least no video of the boot sequence.  All crack this nut?  Get Ubuntu based KVM working in VMware Player?

Well, it turns out be strange, but easy to solve, it appears the Ubuntu KVM install at least on 13.10, creation of default virtual machine emulation is set to KVM, which has been deprecated.  Recreate a virtual machine as Qemu/KVM 64 bit, works!  Mystery solved.

  • If I update to a higher version of VMware player will be deleted all my previous machine-VMware

    Hi guys,.

I'm updating my Vmware for the free version of 5.0.0.Currently I have a large number of Vmwares installed on my current version and a large number of important data. When I tried to check updates and download it says I need to uninstall the current vmware player to continue. Is this to say that I'll lose all the vmware machines with their data too? I have to reinstall all the operating systems from scratch. Also, if I download the update once and cancelled (due to the above question) do I have to re-download the update or is all the stored configuration somewhere?

    Welcome to the community,

don't worry, the virtual machine will remain intact. It is just the application that must be uninstalled before installing the new version.

    Hello mmccurdy,

Thank you for your message. But due to the fact that I use Ubuntu 15.04 in 32-bit version, it is not possible to install the bundle - x 64 drive.

After searching a few other items, I found the solution now (you can find the entire instructions under http://rglinuxtech.com/?p=1281

    First steps:

    cURL http://pastie.org/pastes/9934018/downloadhttp://pastie.org/pastes/9934018/download o /tmp/vmnet-3.19.patch

    CD/usr/lib/vmware/modules/source

    tar - xf vmnet.tar

    patch - p0-i /tmp/vmnet-3.19.patch

After changing driver.c and userif.c, it is necessary to change too NETIF. C in the vmnet-only folder as follows (see original under http://rglinuxtech.com/?p=1184)

    all about line 152:
    dev = alloc_netdev (sizeof * netIf, deviceName, VNetNetIfSetup);
    to do this:
    dev = alloc_netdev (sizeof * netIf, deviceName, NET_NAME_UNKNOWN, VNetNetIfSetup);

Complete the changes to the file are VMNET-ONLY. Now the final stages:

    MV vmnet.tar vmnet.tar.SAVED

    tar - cf vmnet.tar vmnet-only

    RM - r vmnet-only

    VMware-modconfig - console - install-all

    then VMwarePlayer works very well.

    Used with:

    Linux ubuntu 3.19.0 - 17-generic #17 - Ubuntu SMP Wed May 6 16:46:32 UTC 2015 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

  • Need help with VMware Player to run!

I've been using VMware Player 7.1 successfully for some time, but my drive hard host started making noise, so I installed a new SSD drive as drive C on the host computer.  My old hard drive installation was 8.1 for Windows 64-bit, but needed to be cleaned, so I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 64 bit on my new SSD for the host.  My guest OS (8.1 64-bit Windows) has been installed on drive E, then I'm not touching this player.  I then installed VMware Player 7.1 and all is well.  However, when I now run VMware Player 7.1 and try to open my (8.1 Windows 64-bit) guest OS, he says now that the Intel VT - x is disabled.  I've never touched the BIOS at all, but to check I went into the BIOS and Intel Virtualization is always on because it has been.  My system is a motherboard ASUS Sabertooth with an i7 processor and 16 GB of ram.

So I rechecked everything in the BIOS and made sure the virtualization is enabled.  What else can I do to get VMware Player 7.1 running?  Help, please!

The log file created when I tried to run the guest operating system is attached.

    Thank you

    Abby

It is indeed strange that there is a difference with no changes to the BIOS. In any case, other messages in the forums, it seems like some antivirus/end point protection applications can cause these issues (see, for example, binary translation is incompatible with the long mode). You have already installed this application?

It might be interesting to see vmware.log from the virtual machine HARD disk.

  • VMware Player tells me to 'host reserved RAM', but the option does not exist.  Is there a command for vmx to this file?

I am running VMware Player on a host Ubuntu 14.04, Win 7 pro x 64 comments.  When I start the client OS VMWare gives me this warning

    Vmware Player Warning.png

So I want to allow the use of the "reserved host RAM" option instead of playing with the pagefile, but setting told me to doesn't seem to exist in VMware Player

    vmware player mem settings.png

Is there something I can add to the VMX file to enable this option?

Porto Richardson wrote: this setting for VMware Player is found in the file config.ini to the player %allusersprofile%/VMware/VMware

The OP said "I'm under VMware Player on a Ubuntu 14.04 host" so the file name and path you mentioned is not applicable.

@LukeJS host on a Ubuntu (Linux) from the file name won't get the .ini extension and will be simply called the config and will be parked at/etc/vmware /.  So with the machine virtual shutdown is not suspended and VMware Player closed then a Terminal used the following command.

    sudo nano/etc/vmware/config

    Then add the following line.

    prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "100".

It is essentially the same parameter that gets the value of the UI of VMware Workstation preferences for submission in response to the message that despite the instructions contained in the message does not exist in the VMware Player preferences user interface.

  • VMWare Player and VLAN

    Hi all out there.

I have a problem regarding virtual local networks and virtualization. The configuration is as follows. Our developers are about to get virtual machines with Linux (centos) guests on their desktop computers. Host machines are Windows 7 boxes with sufficient CPU, RAM and disk space. Each box has only one NIC installed and connected to the internal LAN. On this single cable Lan, there should be 2 VLANS:

    1. vLan id 100 for windows hosts (configured as default vLan on the switch ports)
    2. vLan id 199 for the machine virtual (different configuration for routing/firewall/proxy)

The network for the virtual machine must be set to bridged, because making web development, developers must be able to access Web servers installed on the virtual machines via a browser.

The original plan was to use VMware Player, install Linux, configure the vLan in the comments, and it works. But no package has left the virtual machine when you ping the default gateway of the vLan 199. To me, it seems that something is declining for all packages on vLan the vLan 199.

    The questions are:

    • VLANs are supported by VMware Player or workstation after all?
    • They are supported in a configuration like that?
    • How do we? Must be setup in Windows as well?

    Help would be very nice

    Greetings

    Joachim

The default virtual network Editor is not installed with VMware Player and you will need to transform automatic bridging and define VMnet0 to use vLAN199 and then bridge network adapter to the Virtual Machine should work.

For the workaround you can run VMware-player-* .exe - e c:\vmptmp from a command line and then search for the c:\vmptmp\network.cab file and extract (double-click on the .cab file) vmnetcfg.exe (virtual network editor) file in the working directory of VMware Player usually 'C:\Program Files\VMware/VMware Player', you can create a shortcut and place it with the shortcut of VMware Player If you want easier access.  NOTE: It takes several minutes for the VMware-player-* .exe to extract all then be patient.

  • Portege R - 400 3 G modem freezes VMWare Player 3.0 in Windows 7

    Hi all

I have a problem following needs your help.

I have a Portege R-400 with 3 G build-in modem. It is installed Windows 7. All is well until I install the VMWare Player 3.0.

Without modem 3G connection, each application still works fine. (I use WiFi most of the time.)

When I'm not in measure use WiFi and connect with 3G, without starting VMWare Player, the system freezes within 5 to 20 minutes.

The symptom is without any response to the keyboard and mouse, but can see HD light flashing.

Then, I'll try Virtual PC from microsoft. He may have the same problem, too.

It will be very appreciated if there is no solution for this problem.

    Thank you very much!
    Mike

Dear Mike is a rather complicated question. I mean Toshiba muss well deliver books and work with the factory settings, everything should work fine.
If you use some third-party software of the part and if something goes wrong, it can be really complicated.

Who is responsible for support here?
I hope that someone on this forum has exactly the same specifications, the setting, the operating system and additional software like you and can help you with this.

    Hi all

I have a new installation of Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit on my old Dell Optiplex GX-620 machine.
I installed vmware player 4.0.2 on who.
I would like to create a virtual machine for few comments Windows 7 Professional 64.

Is the above a possible scenario? VMware player wonder what OS I'm going in the virtual machine and seems to only present 32 bits in the drop-down list of choices.  Maybe I can ignore that and go ahead and install the Win 7 64bits instead?

    Thanks for your help.

I fear that you will not be able to run all guests 64-bit with the CPU you use. As far as I know, none of the Pentium 4 processors support Intel VT - x.

  • VMWare Player + Ubuntu 14.04 memory leak

    Hello.

I have a newly built host Ubuntu LTS 14.04.  I installed VMWare player 6.0.3 build-1895310 64-bit.   The host has a processor i5 and 16 GB of RAM.  I have a Windows 7 VM Pro with 4 GB of RAM allocated to it.  This virtual machine is running video management software which is write about 2 MB/s on the virtual disk.  When I start the VM I see it consume about 4 GB of RAM as expected, but then I notice that Linux (via top) slowly eats away at the remaining RAM.  An hour later and I'm almost out of wired RAM.

The only solution is of course a restart, as the leak seems to be happening in the kernel or a driver.  I see not a process user-land eating this.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

    Jim

After a call with the Global Support VMWare, only it turns out it was my mistake.  It is / was without leaking memory.  For some reason, the kernel has cached of massive amounts of RAM, probably as a result of the use of the heavy drive.  The value 14946256 of my previous post is where the RAM was going.

  • I can run all the virtual machines (created with workstation) in VMWare player?

Suppose I created a virtual machine in a Vmware Workstation 7.1 installation.

Can I take all of this a virtual machine and run it on a VMware player installation?

Or Vmware Workstation offers specific features that are required by the virtual machine to run successfully?

    Matt

    If,

If you are using vmware player 3.x, you should have no problem.

Do not forget that the workstation and vmware player share much of its architecture.

    Hello

This is my first post and I hope this is the appropriate place for this.

A few days ago I installed VMware-player - 1.0.1 - 19317.exe on my new OS install for Windows 7 Ultimate and when he ran that he informed me that there is a newer version, so I downloaded it.

After the installation of the new version, I asked me to uninstall my old version via the control panel. I wnt to run the uninstaller and it blue screened my PC would allow me to unintall it.

I've tried several programs uninstall, some are free and some that I paid for, and whenever the PC blue screened during the uninstallation of the process and has not completed this process.

VMware-player - 1.0.1 - 19317.exe disappeared from my PC I can say, however the new drive "VMware-player - 3.1.3 - 324285.exe" still will not install and needs me to complete before uninstalling it will pass.

Anyone know if there is a special program that will kill 1.0.1.19317 for me?

  • Cannot install VMWare Player, workstation or anything like that

All appear to be the same way with a message like:

    VMWare.png

However I've checked that the file exists and that I can access. What is the problem?

I had VMWare Player 6.0.5 and could not install/update VMWare tools. So, I suspended my operating system prompted and rebooted VMPlayer. He told me that there is a new VMWare Workstation something 10.x and I wanted to upgrade to it. Okay, of course. Downloaded the update and tried to install. Said to uninstall VMWare Player 6.0.5. Being suspicious, I went and downloaded VMWPlayer 6.0.5 where he screwed up the installation of Workstation 10.0. Of course, he did. So I tried to install Player 6.0.5 so I could return to my suspended VM. In my opinion, what he said that I could not install because I haven't restarted. So I rebooted. Now, I can't install Player 6.0.5 or Workstation 10.0.0 or whatever it is. They all fail on the same way saying the cannot find a .msi file I can find and access.

    Help!

BTW, you guys have far too much product and names making it confusing. What should I use? Player? Workstation? Spear? vCenter, Fusion. The list goes on and. Do not try to give me the list of "well it's for this reason and this other thing". The point is there are too many products and it is too complicated. If you want to tell me what the structure of the product is just limit it to the product I should use. I have a Windows 7 box and you want to run Ubuntu in a VM desktop - that's all...

    Thank you.

    Hello

Please note that this is a forum for peer support and therefore, it is mainly users of VMware help other VMware users who make up the bulk of this forum. It is VMware employees responding in time in time, but in your case here (Note: VMware employees are recognizable because they have a small 'vm' next to their name logo)

With regard to your current number. If you install VMware Workstation, then you have also installed VMware Player next.

Even after the expiry of VMware Workstation, you can continue to use the free VMware Player.

    Hope this helps,

  • Virtual machines VMware Player 6.0.3 gel.

I had a problem with VMware Player 6.0.3. All my guests freeze finally after awhile. This seems to happen more often with my Linux VM rather than my windows VM. The two become very annoying.

I tried to adjust memory and its use, but it doesn't seem to work.

My temporary solution is only a pause virtual machines and run again. Graphics performance are poor thereafter.

Someone at - it experience something like this?

    Hi Jmattson,

It seems to me I found the problem and it is fixed. I had added the following line to the VMX file:

    sound.bufferTime = "200".

Apparently, the problem can be associated with buffer as I had very chopped him reading audio and video of the virtual machine just before it freezes. This may be due to move from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 as a host operating system.
