VMware tools installer crashes (win 2 k pro)

Hi all, I use virtual box on my netbook linux for awhile (win xp, win 98 and win 2kpro - disks I basically!) anway, finnally got a new desktop with windows 7 and thought that I would give vmware a go and bought workstation 8.  on paper it should be essentially the same - as long as they do not support windows 98, but are supported on NT based systems.  (to be fair windows 98 tools VMware does install and do everything but sound and networking)

However, when I try to install VMware Tools under windows 2000 pro, Setup crashes almost instantly with
"The Microsoft run-time DLLs cannot be installed on this operating system. Please see KB835732 Microsoft for more information. »

I tell myself that I have to do something wrong, that I deleted and recreated the installation of windows 2000 and the same thing happens, but on the VMware website, this system is listed as supported, any ideas anyone?

Thank you very much
JJ

Looks like you have a Windows 2000 with sp1, 2 or 3
the Setup program for the tool needs servicepack4

  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2 VMware tools installation - "device installation was prevented by a strategy."

P2V'ed a Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise Server using the stand-alone converter. Converted OK, can launch the machine in 10 Workstation, log with the ID of the administrator, but no network adapter or mouse. Several web search performance of the possible solutions for this - change the local security policy to everyone, the services to disable Ctrl-M - they have not worked with me. After several uninstall, re-installation of VMware tools (manually via the keyboard navigation for the update of the operating system host by mapping shared folders), now when the machine starts I see in the system, try "device installation was prevented by a policy." Do not see anything particularly related to, with this verbiage, at the request of Windows and security logs events. In addition, the physical machine has been sent, is no longer available unfortunately, but I think that it is just config and can be corrected.

    Any help appreciated in advance.

    1. Change the strategy of Local computer, computer, Configuration models of administration, system, Device Installation Restrictions of Installation of device to ' not configured.'
    2. Delete all the USB unknown devices in Device Manager, then do a search for the hardware changes.

Both of the above have been made manually via the keyboard navigation, but analysis of changes of material made me my mouse back and let me launch the installation of VMware tools.

  • VMware Tools installer location on VirtualCenter or ESX host

OK, so I know the standard way of installing VMware tools on a virtual machine is using the ' Install/Upgrade VMware Tools' when it is connected through the VI Client.  Using this feature, I'm sure that mounts a sort of an ISO file or the image of the virtual machine where the installer can then be started/launched.  Anyone know where I can find this ISO file or installer, specifically for Linux guests?  What we try to do is to get the installer for tools, so we can store somewhere else.  I hope someone can help.

    Thanks to a bouquet.

On an ESX race you can find them in:

  • Installation of vmware tools windows server 2012

I have to do something special to install vmware tools on a machine virtual windows server 2012, or just run d:\setup?

    Thank you.

As long as it is the Fusion of 5 or above, just run the installation program.

If Fusion 4, you may experience problems with the video driver that I don't see if Fusion 4 was never updated to officially support Windows 8 guests. In this case, however, if the only goal is to get something running, be sure to disable the video driver from the VMware Tools installation.

  • VMware tools install question

    Hi all

I recently installed vmware player 3.0.0.Build - 203739 and I now have a prompt of Win XP pro on my Win XP pro host.

I initially had problems to get vmware tools to download whenever I was invited to download, the player said to me that he could not see the server (even if I was verifiable online).

Today, when I walked into the virtual machine, I was prompted to download the tools and this time the download seems to start (at least, there is no error and the progress bar indicates the download worked).

Current state, it's inside my VM menu, it says now "Cancel vmware tools installation"without doubt, implying that the installation is still progressing.  However, this message has been there for about six hours now.

Can someone tell me if this installation is still ongoing, waiting or what?  I have to do something about that installation is complete?

    Thanks for your help!

I met the same problem, but the tools got only downloaded and nothing more.

In the status bar of the prompt, you see the logo of VMWare, but with a yellow triangle indicating that an upgrade of VMWare tools is available.

If you see in the menu VM the words 'Cancel' and then do a "install VMWare tools". The changes are great that it works now. You just download VMWare Tools, but they must be installed by yourself.

  • VMware Fusion 7 - OSx 10.9 comments iTunes hangs at each time after installing vmware tools

    Hello community,

I'm having a problem with vmware tools.  Yesterday, I did the upgrade of Fusion 6 to 7 Pro.

I have installed Mavericks like virtual machine.  My system (iMac Late2013) has installed Mavericks.

With vmware tools iTunes crash whenever it is launched.

Without vmware tools iTunes works well... but the yield is very low (I can't use shared folders, etc.)

Before upgrading vmware fusion 7, I had fusion 6 and everything works fine (I mean iTunes with vmware tools)

I use this machine with audio application and it is important for me to use iTunes inside the virtual machine.

Is there the 'tricks' to solve this problem?

    Thank you

It's finally a bug in iTunes that Apple should correct (so please click on "Send to Apple" in this window), but it is important to use to find out what triggers it.

I suspect a significant change, we did for the graphics drivers of comments (within the VMware Tools for OS X) between Fusion 6 and 7 of the merger. To test this theory, please try the following experiences in your VM Mavericks:

    o experience 1

In Terminal.app, run the following command:

    sudo nvram boot-args = 'vmw_gfx_caps = 0'

Then restart the client Mavericks. Does make the problem disappear? If no, continue to experiment 2

    o experience 2

In Terminal.app, run the following command:

    sudo rm - rf {/System,}/Library/Extensions/VMwareGfx.kext

Then restart the client Mavericks. Does make the problem disappear?

  • VMware tools are not installed

I have vmware player v6 on a windows machine

I installed windows 7 as a virtual machine on a windows computer, but I can't get vmware tools to install - because the installation process does not start.

In the vmware window, I click on manage/player/install VMware tools and nothing happens, never. I get no start installation upward. So I tried also to start/run/D:\setup and I get "Please insert a disc into the dvd drive. It's so useless, nothing I will get the installer to start and after trawling google ages each page says the same thing, which is what I tried already and who never works. WTF |. I have to do to get the vmware tools installer to run?

Edit: I also tried to download and tools-windows - 9.6.1.exe running and who has done sweet FA as well.

If you are using VMware Player 6.0,1 on a Windows host and you want to install VMware Tools in Windows 7, then do what follows is workaround to which question you encounter that does not automatically download the VMware Tools.

Tools-windows - 9.6.1.exe.tar on the host, not the comments, download and unzip it.  Then run the file tools-windows - 9.6.1.exe.  This (silently) installs VMware Tools for Windows (windows.iso) in the working directory of VMware Player.  You should then be able to install VMware Tools normally on the Menu, but if it doesn't work then fix the windows.iso of CD/DVD virtual machine and run the installation from the Windows virtual machine.

  • VMware tools automate following a judgment?

    HI guys,.

I'm currently updating of tools with a restart with the addition of the vShield driver using the automated installation with these advance options

    /S /v "/qn REBOOT = R ADDLOCAL = REMOVE ALL THE = Hgfs, WYSE, ThinPrint.

What I would like to know if there is in any case told stop instead, I think not that this is possible with the standard MSI arguments but I'm wondering if PowerCLI could do?

As far as I know, you're right, the judgment can be done in the MSI parameters.

But you can control the entire process from a PowerCLI script, and you can stop the virtual machine when the update is complete.

    • Install the VMware Tools installation with the cmdlet Mount-Tools files
    • Run the upgrade through the Invoke-VMScript cmdlet
    • Stop the virtual machine with the Shutdown-VMGuest cmdlet

You think the restart after the upgrade of the tools.

If you let reboot happen, view agent service will take place. Maybe it's something you want to avoid.

There are several ways to achieve this:

    • Before you restart, set the startup type of the service to the people with reduced mobility
    • Disconnect the network virtual computer. You can always restart and stop the virtual machine and you can even execute scripts/commands inside the BONE of the virtual machine with the Invoke-VMScript cmdlet
  • How to install VMware Tools in Ubuntu guest with no Internet connectivity?

I need to install VMware Tools in a Guest Ubuntu (10.04) running in VMware Player.

The machine on which it is running has no internet access; It is part of an isolated network.

I know there are a LOT of instructions on how to do it, and it seems that they all begin with "mount your ISO file...". ' or "click"Install VMware Tools..."."

Of course, I have not and cannot find a file ISO of VMware tools for Ubuntu.  I admit that I can be looked in the wrong place, but I watched several times and have spent many hours on it.   I tried Open VM Tools as well and followed the instructions included, but orders did not produce the responses described.

When I click on "Install VMware Tools" the machine just made several attempts to connect to a server that will never happen.

Although it does not prove that I know what I'm doing, I installed VMware Tools on several hosts of Windows XP.  For some reason, I was able to find many versions of VMware Tools for Windows ISO.  The installation worked everytime with very little hair loss.

Thanks for any help on this eternal question.

You will need to download the ISO images for the VMware Tools installation media at least once, on a computer with internet access.  Player menu--> File--> Preferences of the player.  Click on the button download now all components.  Once complete, there will be 6 ISO files in the folder of the player.  You can copy them to the same location on the PC that you are currently underway.  Then, you can follow the instructions to install VMware Tools in a Linux Guest, located in the help file.

    What should I do?

Looking at your mistakes, you seem to have an earlier version of the tools which are not uninstaled or tools are coming from another source when the installation program checks the files are already claimed. I first uninstall everything that claims these files and possibly clean/regen your db packace if necessary. Then, reinstall the tools and see if you still get errors with no alert clobber.
