VMware tools take it apart or modify the parameters of CD-Rom via PowerCLI

Hello

My problem:

After the upgrade invited on Redhat Linux vmware tools vmware tools remain in the properties of the vm.

I mean that the device vm: CD-Rom drive is configured to store data-ISO file [/vmimages/tools-isoimages/linux.iso]

The CD-ROM drive is not connected!

I can't Vmotion of such systems.

Is there a way to define the type of device clientcdrom to 'clientdevice' via PowerCLI?

I checked some commands powercli: set-cddrive, dismount-tools

With the powerclie cmd:

Get - vm GuestName | Get-cddrive

I am able to locate systems that have the problem.

Output:

IsoPath RemoteDevice HostDevice
-------              ----------                             ------------
[] / vmimages/tool...

Via Vsphere Client, I am able to change the iso data store config in clientdevice.

and change the mode to emulate ide to ide pathtrough (recommended)

-> A chip solution would be to automate tasks via powercli this 2.

Has anyone automated this 2 tasks via powercli

Hi, George,

I think NoMedia - Set-CDDrive switch, it's what you need - it Peel host device or iso file.

Get - VM | Get-CDDrive. Game-CDDrive - NoMedia-confirm: $false

Kind regards

As far as I know, there's no cmdlet for this, but you can use the UpdateSystemResources method.

You just need to know that the key to the Scriptures "host/system".

    $esx = Get-VMHost MyHost

    $spec = New-Object VMware.Vim.HostSystemResourceInfo $spec.key = "host/system" $spec.Config = New-Object VMware.Vim.ResourceConfigSpec$spec.Config.cpuAllocation = New-Object VMware.Vim.ResourceAllocationInfo$spec.Config.cpuAllocation.reservation = 800$spec.Config.memoryAllocation = New-Object VMware.Vim.ResourceAllocationInfo$spec.Config.memoryAllocation.reservation = 800$spec.Config.ChangeVersion = $esx.ExtensionData.SystemResources.Config.ChangeVersion

    Thank you

The Select-Object cmdlet does not return the name of the LUN as a string, but as a ScsiLunImpl object.

The New-Datatsore cmdlet requires a string for the - Path parameter.

    You can do

    $con = (Get-ScsiLun).CanonicalName
New-Datastore -VMHost 192.168.1.1 -Name newDS -Path $con -Vmfs -BlockSizeMB 1

    Help, I've changed the root ESXi via powerCli password, now I can not connect with the web client or the console, but I can still connect to powerCli. The command I used was;

This production network btw, I have connected to each host and run the above command, these ESXi hosts are not on a domain

y at - it something I have left out. I really appreciate any assistance that you people can provide.

    Thank you, Joe

It is probably a longshot, but a lot of things in the land of windows is not sensitive to capital letters as Unix is.  I wonder if your new password you put through powerCLI mixed uppercase in it and if the capitalization was abandoned by command windows powerCLI Analyzer, or he interpreted as all capitals or something.   If you can still get through the powerCLI you could try to reset the password again to something simple without capitalization mixed case and if your password on ESXi strategy requires a special character, try something different than a "$", like a "_" (I find that a '_' is less likely than some other special characters (, as a '-' or a ' / ' to cause problems with analyzers.).

    Edit:

Another thing, you can try before playing with the password once again, is to create a different username ESXi using powerCLI and see if the password ends up what you think, it should be, and if you can get with the client vsphere using it.  In this way, you can find out if there are some problems with certain characters or Cap through command powerCLI Analyzer without losing your remaining root by powerCLI access.  After some tests, you can understand what went wrong with your initial password change and may be able to fix it with less risk of losing access.  I also assume that you can not create a new username on ESXi who is able to change the root password no matter what authority give you it, otherwise, you could create a new username with PowerCLI, then connect to the client vsphere with it and change the password to root from there.

  • How to launch and use the VMware tools

After installing 2008r2 as a virtual machine and install VMware Tools, I am unable to open the tools and use them.  I did two days of searching, and I can't find an answer to my problem.    Downstairs is an action I took, but I would appreciate any help from the community.

    Purpose:

Laboratory at home training and certification.

Hardware environment: (based on "Chris Wahl" home Build Lab)

    SuperMicro Motherboard MBD-X10SLH-F-O

Intel Xeon E3-1230 v3 3.30 GHz processor with 32 GB of ram

    Software environment:

64-bit version of Windows 7 Professional, host operating system

VMware Workstation 10 with all updates installed with administrator privileges

    VM #2: vSphere 5.1 install

VM #1: The Windows 2008R2 VM I have a problem with VMware tools.

I've deleted and rebuilt the two VM three times now, thinking it was my environment somehow.  ESXi 5.1 works although I have not built anything there yet.  I am able to access this part of the laboratory fine of vSphere Client.

    VMware Tools:

Within the Services of VM 2008 I can see VMware Tools started service, the icon in the system tray notification area and see the files on the C: drive of the virtual computer, but there is no way to open it.

I followed several links to create a virtual laboratory, but should not be this hard to run a program.  It's my first time that you try to use VMware tools, but I'm following the steps in the lab below install procedures.

In the middle of the page of "Blog Editor" part 4 "build the ultimate vSphere Lab is where it installs the VMware tool and lowest after restarting Windows Update service I'm stuck to the next step."

"Open VMware Tools, go to the Shrink ."  Click on the button of the prepare to shrink . »

?  How to "open the VMware Tools?

Now on the path I have searched for and deleted and reinstalled the tools, but always without success.

Here is a link where I found the following measures to be taken, but it doesn't work either.  The "NOTE" at the bottom, it's something I noticed and made sure was right when I installed the last time tools.

I even found a link to where you can download the tools separately from the ISO files, and yet, it does not work.  A LITTLE HELP PLEASE!

    http://www.vdsyn.com/Windows-2008-R2-virtual-machine-VMware-tools-shows-not-running-current-after-vmotionsnapshot-operations-randomly/

So next step that we did was
1 uninstalled VMware Tools in the virtual machine
    2 restarted the VM
    3. manually deleted/renamed the C:\Program VMware Tools
    4. manually deleted/renamed C:\Programdata\VMware\VMware tools
    5 Rebooted
    6. install the VMware tools
    7 Rebooted

The issue is not reproducible after the same

NOTE: Make sure that the virtual computer CD player points to the correct image.  I found it always go back to the windows 7 iso image on my C: drive from physical machines to where the image 2008r2 was on drive E:

No need to reinstall again. You're not missing something. VMware has changed the VMware Tools tray and removed options that were available in previous versions. I looked to see if there was a way to get the mac address of a virtual machine without VMware tools running.  I know that you can see this information for vSphere gui when you change the material, so I think it would be accessible without VMware tools, but maybe not.

Does anyone know if/how this is possible?

That's right, you have no need for VMware tools must be installed to retrieve the MAC address, there are other attributes such as host name comments for example which is only available when the tools are installed.

Take a look at this script to retrieve the MAC address of virtual machines: getAllVMMacs.pl

  • Registration of the VMWare Tools? No created log file

    Hello

I have SuSE Linux with VMWare Tools.

    I add in the /etc/vmware-tools/tools.conf

    [record]

    Journal = true

    log.file="/var/log/VMwareTools.log".

    log. Level = Debug

But the file does not create or write.

    What I did wrong?

Is it a problem that the 'free' VMWareTools was insalled before?

I would like to know why the Scripts:

    / usr/sbin/pre-freezescript and/usr/sbin/postthaw-script

are not start if I run a snapshot

    Thank you

You configuration in /etc/vmware-tools/tools.conf should look like this:

    [record]
    Journal = true
    vmtoolsd. Level = debug
    vmtoolsd. Handler = file

    vmtoolsd. Data = /var/log/vmtoolsd.log

    See the following article:

Enabling debug logging for VMware Tools within a guest operating system

With these settings, I can get logging to work in a prompt of SuSe VM.

I would like to know why the Scripts:

    / usr/sbin/pre-freezescript and/usr/sbin/postthaw-script

are not start if I run a snapshot

To start the file names must be:

    usr/sbin/pre-antifreeze-script

    usr/sbin/post-thaw-script

These files must also be executable with 0755 permissions and owner root. Make sure that it is set to script files.

Also you can check the file vmware.log of the VM on the data store that records messages related to the VM of ESXi host point of view.

  • What happened to the Repo of VMWare tools?

It worked literally 2 days ago and I've synced it with our internal repo. Now he's dead and I was wondering if someone at - he heard of this. It is quite convenient to have a place to enter the VMWare tools and get them installed at the same time, the operating system is installed.

If you delete the / index.html to your link, for example, it works:

  • Installation of the VMware tools on PCLinuxOS comments

    Hi all

I started to play with VMware player (version 6.0.3). I made a new virtual machine and install PCLinuxOS on it. I now want to install VMware tools on this comment, so I click on the drive-> manage-> install VMware tools. However, nothing seems to happen, and I've waited more than an hour. When I click on the drive-> manage according to me, it is said (download VMware tools). The host and the VM guest have access to internet. Could be blocking download, or in any way I can solve the problem? Thank you very much for your help - J

You are running on Windows or Linux, VMware Player host? If you are running on the WIndows host, download the file: http://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/player/6.0.3/1895310/windows/packages/tools-linux-9.6.2.exe.tar

Extract the. EXE file and run it. EXE file on host it will silently install the ISO Images of VMware Tools in the working directory of VMware Player.

After that, try to reinstall the VMware Tools on VM, simply go to the menu player-> manage-> install VMware Tools.
