VMWare vSphere license

Hello

We are planing vSphere install on 3 servers (2 processors with 2 or 4 cores each CPU per server)

We will have same setup in another site, which connects both sites need not important at the moment, the 2nd site is only a fine DR.

One site will replicate data or all of the volume on the remote site and we are not planing for recovery from site to site or vmortion from now maybe in the future.

1 can I start with one of the subsequent business or business license and upgrade?

VMware vSphere Essentials

VMware vSphere Essentials for sale at retail and offices

VMware vSphere Essentials Plus

VMware vSphere Essentials more than retail and branch (it has most of the features with 3 hosts per site).

2. belongs to vcenter server standard any version above and supports bindings mode?

3. What are the real benefit from a business to the business more, it is better to buy it?

  • 12 hearts (6 in the company)

  • unlimited memory (256 in company)

  • 8 - way Virtual SMP (virtual SMP 4-way in the company)

  • VMware vNetwork Distributed Switch

  • VMware host profiles

  • VMware vStorage API Multipathing

Red Hello,

1 can I start with one of the subsequent business or business license and upgrade?

YES, you can buy it and then you can buy upgrades for all Enterprise or Enterprise Plus versions.

2 vcenter server standard part of any version above and the binding mode is supported?

You have vcenter foundation (up to 3 ESX only, or the standard vcenter (amount of ESX). the standard can support related modes.)

3. What are the real benefit from a business to the business more, it is better to buy it?

Here you will find a link with the difference of vmware licenses

but consider that the company is pleased to understand generally distributed switches and profiles of the host, is used in very large datacenters or when you need pvlans, incoming bandwidth control, etc.

Please, do not forget the points of call of the "useful" or "correct" answers

  • VMware vSphere licenses - subscription costs

Really quick question - if all goes well

Does anyone know what percentage of the cost of the VMware product free of charge for subscriptions - I thought that's about 10 to 20%, but I could do with a closed figure. Is this different for each product? I'm looking at licensing for vSphere Essentials.

Also want to make sure I'm OK to just keep buying in three packs and adding on several hosts over time - for example 2 copies x essential (each bearing 3 guests) allows for 6 guests.

Membership is about 10% of the price of the product per year, but 2 and 3 years come with a discount.

Essentials has a strict limit of 3 armies. You can buy 2 packs of essentials, but you need to configure 2 different vCenters manage 3 guests each. If you need more of 3 guests to a vCenter, forget Essentials.

  • VMware vSphere Essentials Plus Kit Upgrade

    Hello

We are currently running VMware vCenter Server 5.1.0 and VMware ESXi VMware vSphere Essentials Plus Kit license 5.1 with 5.1.0. I think the move to VMware ESXi and VMware vCenter Server 6.0 6.0

I already had a host with ESXi 6.0 and I tried to use my existing on this host 6.0 Essentials Plus Kit License, but it does not work. I have to upgrade my license key? What are my options?

    VMware vSphere license key update

You must obtain new licenses to deploy VMware vSphere 6.0. VMware vSphere 4.x and 5.x existing licenses vSphere will not work on vSphere 6.0.

  • A new doubt on the license - VMware vSphere Essential Kit

    Hi guys,.

I play virtualize physical servers in the company I work (about 10 smaller servers).

To start some tests, I bought a Dell r.620 server with two processors and 64 GB of RAM.

I think buy just one license of VMware vSphere Essential Kit, just to test some features, management, and support provided by VMware.

My doubt is: to support all the RAM (64 GB), I have purchase a license of the vSphere Essential Kit, or I need TWO?

I'm a little confused on how much physical RAM memory on a single server, the vShpere Essential Kit can handle.

OK, I know I can use a free version. But this test server will be transformed into a production server, and that the price of the vSphere Essential Kit is very good, I would buy it and start my test as a test of "production"...

Guys, sorry for my bad English, it is not my mother tongue. =(

    Thanks much for any help.

    Hi Alex,

Since you are doing a test on a single server so a Kit should be good at this point. In addition to Essential Kit do not fully support 64 GB of RAM so no need to buy two. Only the free versions have limits in support of only 32 GB of RAM.

Diagram below will give you a good idea on the different Kits.

Also, you can read about licensing and prices here: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/products/vsphere/VMware-vSphere-Pricing-Whitepaper.pdf

  • 5 of VSphere and VMware vSphere Essentials Licensing

I just the unit of vCenter installed and put my license keys in for VMware vSphere Essentials Bundle - (version 5.0) - license - 3 guests - up to 2 processors by host

However, when I connect via vSphere client of web it says I have a key that expires in 60 days (the assessment key). I can't delete this key. I'll find myself unable to manage my VM with vSphere Web Client in 60 days?

    Man, this approval is confusing!

Looks like that you always use your evaluation key for your instance of vCenter instead of your purchased key.  If you click on the tab of systems vCenter server you should be able to pass the eval on a key your purchased key.  That should solve your problem.

  • VMware vSphere Storage Appliance license

We about to buy the enterprose version is VMware vSphere Storage Appliance referred to the esxi we about to buy?

    Thank you

The definition of "instance 1" is located at http://www.vmware.com/products/datacenter-virtualization/vsphere/vsphere-storage-appliance/faqs.html#licensing

What the Storage Appliance (VSA) vSphere license?

When buying on a stand-alone basis, vSphere Storage Appliance is licensed per instance (similar to vCenter Server). Each license supports the creation of a VSA cluster, with up to three knots.

  • VMware vSphere 4 licenses essential question and the number of processors

    Hi all

I have a question about the Essentials of VMware vSphere 4.1 license. We have a client interested in a VMware vSphere Essentials license. The machine runs on 2 x processor Xeon 5675 6 c. Now I read somewhere that there was a limitation of the number of processors that can be used with the edition of Essentials. If I remember correctly, the number of physical sockets is limited to 2, but I remember that there is another limit, but I could not find the document describing and wonder:

Is there a limitation on the maximum number of 4 cores on one physical processor that can or will be used by VMware vSphere 4.1 Essentials or there is a limitation on the number of 4 vCPU that can be assigned to a guest?

I would like to know because if this is a limitation on the number of vCPU that can be assigned to a customer that would not be a problem because we have no guests in need of vCPU, then 2 more, but if this is a limitation on the number of cores that would be used by VMware vSphere Essentials, it would be a waste of money to buy a 6-Core ;-)

    Hello.

2 taken with 3 guests, 6 hearts and SMP 4 lanes for virtual machines.

These limitations are available at: http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/buy/small_business_editions_comparison.html

    Good luck!

  • VSphere API is available in VMware vSphere Essentials Kit?

    Hello

TL; DR: I would like to know if the vSphere API is available in VMware vSphere Essentials Kit.

We evaluated VMware vSphere to build an environment very small test & dev to work. Since vSphere worked well during our assessment, we will buy vSphere licenses.

We only need to operate a single ESXi host and we don't much care our virtual machines because they are used for testing only. Thus, we don't need features such as vMotion.

However, take us pictures and we depend on the vSphere API, because we use pyVmomi to administer our virtual machines.

Because we only run an ESXi host, need for API vSphere vCenter but did not need features such as vMotion, I think that the Kit Essentials fits our needs. But I'm not sure it provides the vSphere API. If anyone can confirm?

    Kind regards

Yes, vSphere API are available in the Essentials kit.

  • Problem with vSphere license

I am trying to add a license to a free vSphere installation 5.1 and I see this error message. My Dell R710 server has 72G RAM, 2 x 1 TB and 2 x 6-Core 5660 2.80 Hz CPU.

I have attached the log. Any help will be appreciated!

    Thank you

    JM

With vSphere 5.0, VMware is launching a policy which limited the maximum physical memory on a host or a cluster, according to licenses "vRAM". For the free hypervisor maximum was 32GB. This political vRam has been deleted again with vSphere 5.5 (see for example KB VMware: VMware vSphere 5.5 license and/or Update vRAM political). I'm not sure if policy has also been removed from the earlier 5.x version with the latest patches!

  • Download of understanding 'Download VMware vSphere Data Protection 6.0 - Open Source'

Can someone explain to my what download "VMware vSphere Data Protection 6.0 - Open Source" actually offers?

His text is 'Open Source Code for VMware vSphere Data Protection 6.0' and the OpenSource_VDP_6.0.0.zip ZIP file contains files like commons-validator - 1.4.0 - sources.jar (Apache Commons Validator).

I guess that it may just be a reference of what free software was used for the construction of POS, but what is the practical use for this download all custmers?

    Thanks for me, illuminating Tom

I guess that it may just be a reference of what free software was used for the construction of POS, but what is the practical use for this download all custmers?

VMware, as virtually every software development company, incorporates certain open existing in their own proprietary source code. More open source licenses like the popular GNU General Public License (GPL) legally require you must publish the source code modified with your distribution of binary software (often under the same license).

There is not really much of a practical use for end users, but it may be useful for other developers and software 3rd party development.

  • Can't active VMWare vSphere Hypervisor 6.0

So I registered on the Web site, go to downloads > free downloads > vSphere Hypervisor and I downloaded the VMware vSphere Hypervisor 6.0 and installed on my server.  On the same page that the download link, it gave me a license key to use.  Then, I downloaded the client and connected to my server.  After login I get a pop-up stating "your evaluation license expires in 60 days.  There is a blue link that says: 'Assign a license to the ESXi host' but when I click on it, my browser opens and need me just to the home page of VMware.  If I click OK and that the box disappears, then there is no place on the interface for me to register the product.  What I'm missing here?  Screenshots included

    2.jpg

And I literally just thought to it right after I posted this.  I had to click on inventory > Configuration tab > features licensed > Edit > assign a new license key to this host.  Not sure why they bury him like this, but happy, what is done today.  Thank you

  • vSphere Licensing

I am a student doing a project where I need to develop a virtual infrastructure. I chose VMware since I am more familiar with their products.

The project includes two sites and a total of 15 people. In the beginning, I chose the vSphere Essentials Plus kit. I have 2 servers on the main site and 1 to the other site. I was going to buy an additional vCenter of license and 2 licenses SRM server. Basically, with the configuration of the infrastructure with the ability to replication on the other site and raise all reviews virtual machines on the server in the other site as a form of DR. The more research I do, the more I see how it is not extensible in the future. I also wonder if it is still possible given the licensing restrictions.

I did research on vSphere standard edition because I believe that it is probably a better option. I have a few questions about how the licenses work as this edition has more factors involved.

From my research, this is what I have gathered.

vSphere Standard edition with basic support is $1715.72 - is that physical price by UC?

I would also like, more than one instance of vCenter (1 for each site). Do I need to purchase a license additional vCenter, or y at - it a pack containing 2 licenses?

In addition, in order to have the capacity to DR, would need RS. Do I need 2 licenses of MRS?

Is anyway to get the price for all this? I was not able to find the price of the additional licenses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hi Welcome to the communities,

you need a single vSphere Standard/ORL/Ent + per socket/physical CPU license, Yes.

About MRS. you should take a look at vSphere replication. It is included in all standard vSphere licenses and of better quality. Perhaps it meets your needs, as a SRM license for up to 75 VMs would cost about $7000, I think.

As you said you are a student, you're doing this project for a University? You may get lower prices then.

I would contact the commercial service of VMware for the best info:
