Vs iPhoto photos

When Photos for Mac was introduced, it was installed on my Mac, but I still have iPhoto. How can I get rid of iPhoto and its library connected (so-called Photos has all my iPhoto library and more?)?

How can I get rid of iPhoto and its library connected (so-called Photos has all my iPhoto library and more?)?

There is no need to be in a hurry to get rid of iPhoto and the iPhoto library. The image to the iPhoto library files are stored in the same place as image files in your photo library, so both libraries together share storage, see this link: Photos saves disk space to share images with your iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support libraries

You can take your time to check, if all the photos in your iPhoto Library migrated well library and if you need to copy captions or titles of your iPhoto Photos on events.

Also your smart albums and books or calendars may not have been migrated completely, see this link: How Photos handles content and metadata for iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support

If you have iPhoto 9.6.1 you can always launch and compare libraries.

When you are finished, make a backup of the iPhoto library and the iPhoto application and then simply delete them using the Finder. Then empty the trash.  He will not free storage however.

I am running Yosemite 10.10.5 on a Mac mini (mid-2010). 2.66 Ghz Intel core 2 duo 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.  Updated since the Mavericks in April 2016, now trying to "Restore" saved from the clouds Zip files (so I can wipe) and we found a lot of files .apalbum.  Although I know that these are files of the opening, I never had Aperture, only iPhoto (v9.6.1) & then Photos (v.1.0.1), with the upgrade to Yosemite.  My questions are the following: (1) are these .apalbum relevant/necessary files to my iPhoto & photo files?  (2) if so, how could they be opened without opening?  or (3) If no, why they are there and can I blow them before restoring my backups?

Chances are that you do not have a usable backup - so far that no base backup is working on an iPhoto or a library of Photos - you have a local backup? Why do you need to restore a backup?

  • Could not find iPhoto/Photos to import into Lightroom

    Hi-

I'm new to Lightroom. I downloaded the creative Amazon Cloud literally last night. When I click on the "Import" button, it evokes the access to the essentially all of the files on my computer with the exception of the pictures that have been uploaded to iPhoto/photos for October 2015. I tried all means to find a link to these photos, and it's as if they don't exist to Lightroom. Outside of Lightroom, I noticed now that when I look at 'Images' in my Finder window, there are all my old photos (before 10/2015) and a file called "iPhoto library" and a file called "photo library". None of these files can be opened from the finder. If the photo is opened, all the images are there.

I feel like there is something corrupt going on behind the scenes that is bad orientation of my photos. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Right-click on the photo library, and then select "view the contents of the package. What happens will be many subfolders. One of them will be named Masters. There you will find all your images. But LR cannot access it from this file/folder of the package. You will need to copy or move the Masters folder to another location on your hard drive for LR to see.

  • IPhoto & Photo

    Hello

I noticed that my photos are uploaded in iPhoto and Photo, and I have a few questions about it.

    1. that would double the amount of space used each photo?

    2. If so, how to disable or iPhoto, or Photo photos go only on just one app?

    3. Furthermore, is it possible to stop the photos stored in iCloud, transfer to your computer?

    Thank you very much

  • Library double (iPhoto + Photos)

    Hi all

I've been struggling with little space HARD drive for a while now, so a few months ago I decided to finally begin to organize and sort my photos correctly, eliminating the double, bad pictures, etc.

I released a certain GB (7 or 8) yesterday, so I was very shocked when I received the message "you do not have enough space" this morning. I went to check if the library had reduced in size and I noticed that I have not one, but two libraries: iPhoto Library and photo library. The former has not changed in size (always around 100 GB), but the latter has (it is now 93BG). I suspect the two libraries are the same, except that I was changing the photo library only since I installed El Capitan in March.

Can I safely delete the iPhoto library or I'll lose the 'event' files I used from there? I can still see the pictures in a separate folder, so I'm not sure that they have been transferred to the new library correctly...

    What do you suggest me?

    Thank you

    Hey Martyroxx,

I understand that you see two different libraries and fear that it may take more space than necessary. In fact, I came across something similar when I tried to clean my internal drive.

An excellent article explaining how to operate the two libraries is Photos saves disk space to share images with your iPhoto or Aperture Libraries.
He explains how the two libraries will only use no extra space.

  • copy of iPhoto photo book?

I have a full book in iPhoto 7.1.5 (on my iMac OS X 10.6.8).) Unable to print as not taken in charge more. I have the new MacBook Pro Retina El Capitan 10.11.6.

    Can I transfer book?

A way to get the printed book without restarting a new?

    Thank you

    Boru8

If you could the way to do is to copy the library containing the book on the new computer and open it with Photos. However, as the book is to make the system changed it is no way do not move the book you want to do. Out of a pdf file of the old iPhoto and a 3rd party printing service is the way to get your printed book.

  • lost moving photo of iphoto photos.

I've lost thousands of photos since his arrival in Photo in iphoto. Help! any suggestions?

    Hello tomdigiulio,

Thanks for this info and choosing the communities Support from Apple. I know how important to get all your photos back is for you! From what you said, it seems you may be experiencing / having problems with moving from iPhoto to Photos for OS X as this article describes:

Update to iPhoto to Photos for OS X

Depending on your version of iPhoto, you may need to use the original tool of valorisation of the iPhoto on your iPhoto library library and then try to open this library in pictures for OS x:

    iPhoto Library upgrade 1.1

In addition, if you have a backup of your personal data on your Mac, you could restore that data to recover your missing photos:

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac

  • Moving iPhoto/photo library

    Hello

I'm moving my iPhoto and photo library to an external hard drive to save space on my MacBook Pro SSD. Once I located in my home folder, then the folder images, both iPhoto and photo libraries are there, and they say they have a capacity of approximately 200 GB each, so about 400 GB in total. When I moved the iPhoto on the external drive library (holding slipped and fell on the command key, so do NOT copy), he moved the so-called 200 GB in just about 15 minutes and when I checked my storage "about this mac" I won only about 6 GB. I have to move all the other files or through any other process to actually moved the library? I tried restart and have begun in iPhoto with the menu to choose the library and it still works fine and it is said that the entire library is on the external hard drive, but the ability is not sensible for me. Thanks for your time.

    -Gmanrockstar31

they say they have a capacity of approximately 200 GB each, both on 400 GB total

This is not correct.  The two libraries share the same data on the HDD through hard links initially so that they only take twice the amount of space on the hard disk. They can be copied/saved independently.

New photos added to each library are independent of the other library.

Here is more information about hard links:

Photos saves disk space to share images with your iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support libraries

The (hard) link between Photos and iPhoto

In the future, do not use the move feature.  If there is a problem then its moving target file may be damaged and the source file will be removed leaving you without useable file.

  • export to iPhoto Photos

I have a folder of iPhotos events in my conversion in Photos. I would like to export all the photos of 25K back to iPhotos using the same organization which is represented in my file of events iPhotos. Is this possible and if so, how it would accomplish this?

This is just a step towards abandonment iPhotos so many Photos and move on to another dam/Editor, but I hope that maintain the organizational structure I had in iPhotos instead of what is happening in most recent Photos.

Thanks for any help or instruction.

    FBX

There is no direct export photos to iPhoto, back only at the opening. So are you opening?

To create a new iPhoto Library export your original images of pictures into folders, a folder for each album 'event '. Then import them into a new iPhoto library.  To export albums in folders, you can use an Apple Script - see this user Tip: Export of Albums to records - Script of Jacques Rioux

Or restore your iPhoto library from the last backup that you do, so you simply add more recently added pictures from the migration to the Photos.

  • Cannot transfer iPhoto Photo Library - unless the external is plugged.

    Hello

Before I got my new Macbook Pro today, I copied my iPhoto library on my external hard drive. This library will be important and open the pictures, the new application, ONLY if the external hard drive is plugged - I even tried to copy the old library, iPhoto to my office and open Photos manually, but it will not be read. Is what it means I need to copy my iPhoto images one by one in the new application Photos?

    Thank you!

I should add here that, once the hard drive is disconnected and I try to open the old library still in Photos, he search the hard drive and is unable to find it. It seems that I can't fix my iPhoto library original as my default photo library.

  • V iPhoto photo

Hi, I have just this week improved my MBP 5 years to a nice shiny new slimline MPB. I managed to migrate everything with great success and have my old MBP for my daughter to use

Believe it or not?  I only just realized that I have TWO official Apple applications that are used to manage my photo collection.

I am more confused NOW that I've never been before!   I have the Photo and I have iPhoto, please can someone explain to me first:-why do I need two app for Photos?, secondly:-what is the difference between the two, making one the other is not do and vice versa?

Third:-I can't really see if they both have the same photos as each of the others, if I only use one of them, I am likely to lose most of my photos?

Which turns out to be THREE questions in ONE, i hope that someone can make sense what I'm asking?

    And I have iCloud?

    Tim

iPhoto has moved on through all applications and will continue to work on El Capitan, as long as you have updated to the last level of v9.6.1. If you have all your photos nicely put in place there, you can continue to use it, but it is EOL, and will probably not receive more updates.

Photos is something new in the process of maturation as an opening + part iPhoto and Apple. Certainly not there yet. Maybe, upon what OS X 10.15 takes place, it will happen, but there is a good chance that something else new will have arisen. As you can imagine, I'm NOT a phan Photos.

If you start pictures on the newly migrated system, it will convert the old iPhoto library to its new format and there is no going back if I understand correctly, you can duplicate your previous iPhoto library and convert that instead, to allow you to test the two alternatives and see which suits you best.

And Yes, both supported the former photo iCloud stream or the new iCloud photo library to interact and syncs with your iGadgets. There is also a street one way: once you went to the library of photos there not to come back. I'm sticking with iPhoto and the flow of pictures very happily on my MBP to mid-2015 with model.

My library is 35 GB and my iPhoto 29 GB library, I think that the pictures are duplicated. How can I make sure that I do not delete all the photos? How can I combine all iPhoto and Photo photos? Is it possible? Thanks in advance!
