• Version 3.0 on 5.5 vCenter using vSphere client

  Installation device and registered in vCenter without error.

  Seems to work in the VMware web client (I'm still exploring). I can manually add servers iDRAC.

  Since the heavy Win32 client, I don't get the Wizard but I get an empty bar in the middle of the screen with "Error #2048" down at the bottom.

  My client is Win7 x 64 with IE10 default browser.

  Hello Ian,

  Try the following steps:

  1. Disconnect and connect to VMware Desktop client (thick client).
  2. Go to home > hosts and Clusters > select any host Dell > click the tab "OpenManage Intégration" and wait for it to load
  3. Now, click on Home > Dell Management Center, it should work now.

  VMware has made some changes in ESXi v6.0 for SSL certificates.   The release MEM notes mentions this problem and other problems known.

  Hello all-

  New Foglight for Enterprise Virtualization and we try to implement a test to see how it performs in an environment of our size.

  We have worked with the representatives of Dell/Quest/Foglight but so far have not been able to get very far in the correctly "tweaking" for usable performance. so I'm tender hand to everyone here for some thoughts.

  We currently have a large enough vCenter with over 7400 VMs, 20 + data centers, hosts 450ish, across the country.  It's a 5.1Update1 environment and the vCenter and related services (VC, SQL, VUM, SSO, WebClient) are all Windows 2008R2 machines virtual on a cluster dedicated to ESXi 2 nodes and all virtual machines to vSphere have all the power in the world to run it.  vSphere itself works well.

  For our Foglight install (the last FfVE v7) consistes of 3 virtual machines.  A FMS server, a SQL Server (2008R2 - dedicated not shared SQL DBs w / any other) and an Agent of vSphere server.  We threw all kinds of resources to this as well - but performance is so bad that it is simply not usable and we have not even present all 7 k + VMs... It is only arount k 5 of them.

  All are Windows 2008R2-

  VSphere VM Agent has been configured for 4 vCPUs and 12 GB of RAM.  It is on the same network segment and same physical host vCenter so it can work on the same vSwitch and did not have excessive network traffic between the two.  The disk is SAN IBM XIV with 8 GB HBAS.

  The SQL VM is 6 vCPUs and 12 GB of RAM.  Another host, network different segmant and different SAN storage IBM XIV.  This SQL Server computer runs ONLY the DB FL.  The DB is locked to 8 GB of RAM, original disc it size 250 GB and there are a lot of drive.  The vDisk is THICK put into service and latency in the standards.

  The FMS server is on a host dedicated - no other guests running on it (for good troubleshooting purposes has not made difference).  He has all the army all processors to himself, has 32 GB of RAM, the virtual machine's memory is all locked/reserved.

  For all three computers virtual, the vCPUs are not competing, time LOANS are low, there is no memory sharing, balooning, or Exchange and the disks are thick with low latency.

  The FMV of the Agent from the server vSphere is set to 8GB min/max.

  The FMS server JVM is located at 12 GB min/max.

  So you see, we gave er everthing she has, but it is VERY VERY VERY SLOW.  To the point, it is completely unusable.

  As a comparison - VMware vCenter Operations manager is a VAPP 2 - VM, has access to the same vSphere with the same objects and it works perfectly fine and smooth.

  My gut tells me there is something not right in the JVM, but I don't know enough.

  If you have time next week, we can discuss?  I've worked with a lot of large environments and I would like to see the details of what's going on before I comment in too much detail to lead you down a path or another.

• EQL / VSM / MEM / vSphere upgrade order

  I see now that v8, MEM 1.3 EQL and VSM 4.5 have been released as EPA so I can upgrade to vSphere 6!

  Is there an order of upgrade recommended for all of these components?  I guess EQL v8 first, then the environment vSphere, then MEM, then VSM?

  I think I read THAT MEM 1.2 was not compatible with vSphere 6?  If this is the case, I guess I have to switch to the RR before upgrading vSphere and then apply 1.3 MEM?

  I agree first of all of the firmware on board.  Remove the MEM, then upgrade vSphere Server v6 then ESXi nodes to v6.0.  You can do MEM or VSM in order any at that time.

  I just talked to Dell support on my problem and this is apparently a known issue with local Europe\UK.  The similarity of our problems might be useful - workaround for me was to settle the Locale\Regional from my PC, where I'm doing it in the United States.  Not the time zone or other settings, to control panel, then "Region and language", then on the first tab, 'Format' box should be set to "English (United States).  Close browsers, start again and it worked for me.

  Might be worth a try if you're not already in US format. (mine was in the United Kingdom).

  This doc mentions specifically that the storage Heartbeat VMKernel port is no longer necessary with ESXi v5.1.  VMware has corrected the problem that made it necessary.

  If you add it to a 5.1 system it will not hurt.  It will take an IP address for each node.

  If you upgrade 5.0 to 5.1, you can delete it later.

  Hi all!

  I am new to this forum and have already posted my question in another forum, but I think it's the right place .

  I have a - Don - t know if there is a big problem:

  We have Dell servers running vSphere connected to MD of Dell storage with SAS connections.

  After a single host lost two SAS connections (the control LED connection where widest) storage, I tried a reboot.
  The connection was again upwards, but datatransfer was impossible, so we changed the host SAS controller.

  The new controller has new identifiers of sas and I did not remove the "old" right now.

  So after the change, we have 6 identfieres sas on the MD, but only 4 could be in use (2 guests each with a SAS cards with 2 connectors.)

  So I tried to delete the old ID thereafter, but when I deleted one of the IDS and controlled in the 'not affect IDs' window of the MD (its called "nicht zugewiesene Kennungen host Port" in German, I hope that my translation is not so bad) deleted ID appears.

  We have rechecked (with the support of Dell) that this ID is one of the old map, but I Don t understand why the MD it still shows as if it there where it is always connected to the storage.

  This weekend, I'll remove the second ID, hoping that the first deleted will appear no more when I deleted the other, when both have although I'll try a reboot of the storage, but that I have no other idea that I can do to get rid of the old card ID.

  To clear the 'old' version of the MD32xx SAS WWN, you have to powercycle the entire unit. I ran into this before me where I couldn't identify what VMware Server was using what WWN.

  There are 2 main options:

  -1 server to restart, go to the interface of SAS6E HBA firmware and note the name WWN (if you have only 2 servers, through process of elimination, you know who's who)

  -disconnect the 1 server and table powercycle of the MD

  Custom Dell ESXi ISO 6.0 came out 2 days ago. So I guess, from past experience, that the VIB is going to be released very soon behind him, but at the moment I do not see that he launched. I can research to see if I can refine the delivery date well and let you know.
