vSphere 5.5 Linux Appliance LDAP

Hello

I have a question about VCLA (vSphere 5.5 Linux Appliance) and LDAP.

We need to connect our vCenter Linux Appliance in our LDAP server.

: Q1 I need a SSO or can I configure vCenter to use LDAP without an SSO?

Q2: If I need a SSO is the delivered device one?

Q3: If so. Document of the witch describe? I can't find a suitable doc

Thank you very much!

Q1: Is the point where the standards body will be installed or enabled for the VCSA?

This is where you set up if you plan to use the on-board SSO or an external SSO. If you select incorporated, simply provide the password for authentication ONE Admin account [email protected]. Once registered, the first part of the SSO is made. Then, you must sign to vSphere Client Web https://VCSAIP:9443 using the [email protected] and configure the Sources of identity (this is the configuration of how SSO will connect to your LDAP server). A lot of articles out there, here is a Howto : AD authentication in vCenter SSO 5.5 | Virten.NET

Q2: If Yes? Why do I need a--> 'account with the right to register with the SSO Server vCenter '.

This is necessary only if you have an existing instance of SSO and want to use it for your vCenter server.

  • Windows licensing for vSphere Essentials all Linux virtual machines running

We offer vSphere Essentials and Essentials Plus of application virtualization on a company that currently has 4 servers that run multiple applications under CentOS. The two products are very good values, providing important functionality at a reasonable cost. Yet, society of the end-user has some resistance to the required cost of Windows Server licenses. There is no Windows servers on this network. Even a minimal vSphere Essentials requires usually 3 Windows Server licenses (for the domain controller, vCenter server, and database server) and a SQL server license. Even when using standard licenses, the total cost of these is higher than the cost of the essential elements of vSphere. Other people deploying vSphere Essentials on Linux-oriented networks are finding ways to use a lower number of Windows Server licenses?

vCenter Linux would be an alternative in such cases, but this project seems to be stalled.

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the community,

If you're only going to do the virtualization of servers (not VMware View) the vCenter Server does not need to be a member of the domain, or you need a separate SQL Server for a small environment. The edition of SQL SERVER 2005 Express (included in the vCenter Server installation) is sufficient.

While a single license of Windows (more CALs) would do.

  • vSphere client as Linux

    Hello!

Any information about the possibility of using the vSphere Linux client will be very siltl!

Up with the web, I saw plenty of people Howard that the thing does not exist, even using Wine and Derivatives...

Another alternative is to use the Nations United-remote desktop through RDP which starts only the application of the vSphere client, necessarily requiring a Windows machine with the vSphere client.  Ref: http://titopanicker.net/blog/?p=632

Under version 3.5, it was possible to use a client OSS, but that doesn't sound equipment to not pay version 4.

    Thanks in advance,

  • Help to install vSphere CLI on Linux 64-bit

    Hello!

I try to get the vSphere CLI working on my Fedora 13 64-bit box and I'm running into a problem when I try to execute commands after installation.  I downloaded the 64-bit for the vSphere CLI 4.0 U2, unpacked tar.gz and run the installation script which filled perfectly.  It installs all the right binary files under/usr/bin.  (Although when installing it asks me to replace a bunch of files in/usr/lib64/perl5/and I just accept the defaults)

When I try to execute a command, such as vicfg-vswitch, I get the following error.

usr: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/perl5/auto/XML/LibXML/Common/Common.so: undefined symbol: Perl_Tstack_sp_ptr

Essentially, I can't even use the vCLI.

Nobody knows what the error means or have a good guide on installing the vCLI for Linux?  VMware documentation don't give me information on how to handle these errors.

Take a look at this thread for your answer - VI Perl Toolkit and Fedora 9. Failure

  • vSphere Data Protection Virtual Appliance 6.0 does not install

I tried to install VDP 6.0 on ESXi 6.0 for the last day and I'm seriously about to launch smashing everything like the incredible hulk.

There are thousands of guides, I have used them in the yellow on bricks. It installs, but as soon as he told me to go to the party for the configuration it simply can. It will not resolve the host name to anything. It irritates me even typing the sentence. I have virtual appliances for the vRealize Operations Manager, vCenter Server, both work perfectly and have been set up in record time. I change IP address, virtual LANs, DNS, reinstalled 4 times entries. I did all humanly possible simple configurations and the INVESTIGATION period will not solve so I can set it up. I try to put in place so I can prove the case for the VSAN still further it and it's making it really, really hard.

Anyone having problems with the VDP 6.0 installs correctly?

I was running into this same issue. Try to open this Web page that is part of the same subnet.

Try another browser. I couldn't get it work well with Chrome, but with IE and Firefox.

Give the password to root for maintenance

    (or type Ctrl-D to continue):

Then I tried just about everything I can think

Put in the root password, then

    # mount - n-o remount, rw /

  • VCenter Linux Appliance

I've heard Linux Vcenter unit, but I don't know where to download it and I searvhed on the page of the device but I can't. Can someone give me a link to download the device?

Also the Linux device will be much better than my current vCENTER Windows 2008? I am currently limited to only 8 GB of ram on my machine and running Esxi5, Win 2008 with Vcenter, Win 2003 AD and, hopefully, 5Win Xp machines virtual for purposes of study. It will be to move from a Win 2008 Vcenter based based Linux Vcenter offer any performance benefit because currently the use of memory on Win 2008 Vcenter is constantly over 90% and I allocated 2gig of ram?

It can be downloaded here: http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/vc50/dHRAYnQldEBiZHBqaA==

You will need to sign and accept the EULA

  • Integration of vSphere plugin 5.5 in chrome / Chrome on Linux Ubuntu

Hi, I have a problem with the installation Bundle for linux. I use Vsphere 5.5, I'm on Ubuntu Linux 14.04.

    1. the Bundle works well with Firefox, the Firefox plug-in Manager detects this intallation... but the flash plugin is not updated to the web interface of this new Vcenter! And Adobe do not provide the correct version for Linux.

    2. rather, Firefox, I try to use Chrome or chrome that has the correct version of Flash plugin inside... The installation of the library in the Directory package Chrome, but it is impossible to activate the plug-ins in browsers of integration: the integration of plugin seems not to recognize...

    Any idea?

    a big thank you

Unfortunately, I have bad news: it is more practicable the infrastructure to vSphere from a Linux machine. You will need a Windows system for it, except by using solutions of hackers undocumented and untested (listed below).

    The reason is the following:

There are two web browser plugin API, the ancient and venerable NPAPI (Netscape Plugin API) and the most recent (chrome/chromium only) PPAPI (pepper API). At this point, Chrome (and other derived Chrome browsers) are the only browsers can use PPAPI plugins. Mozilla has clearly and repeatedly stated that they will be not to divert resources development to support PPAPI since they are considering a web without plugins.

Now, however, Google dropped support for NPAPI plugins old in recent versions of Linux Chrome and have clearly and repeatedly indicated that they plan to bring him back (either by the way, if you check, you will be not able to use Java either, it is not limited to the integration of VMware customers plugin)

Unfortunately, Adobe doesn't distribute packets of NPAPI compatible Flash Player newer than 11.2; the only way to get a recent version of Flash on Linux is using that comes with Chrome. And the vSphere Web Client requires a recent version of Adobe Flash Player.

So, in other words, we're between the hammer and the anvil: Chrome has a fairly recent Flash player, but can not run the remote console plugin. And can run the Firefox plugin remote console, but cannot run a fairly recent Flash player.

And, of course, Google makes it very difficult to downgrade Chrome (they do not offer the older versions for download, it must track them unapproved third-party sources, disable the automatic update and hope you don't get compromised by known security holes in older versions).

You can try to get a newer version of Flash running in Firefox by filling the PPAPI of Chrome via the fresh Reader Plugin plugin you can find at https://github.com/i-rinat/freshplayerplugin - but I don't know if it works.

In other words, to hearty curs* ahem * I want to say 'Thank you' go to VMware, Adobe and Google for this mess.

[mug shot] Of course, many people have seen something as next (Adobe Linux Flash from falling) and was legitimately angry to VMware for place for Linux users in such a situation potentially uncomfortable, especially since this establishes the laughable claims of naked 'portability' for the Web Client VMware, but good. To configure DNS on the vCSA change the Type of address to SLAAC-IPv6 first and you can add DNS server address and the host name.

  • vSphere "There is no device for the PCI Passthrough on the host"

    Hey all,.

I use a trial version of VMware vSphere 5.1 on a server Dell T - 410 Quad Core - w - 32 GB of RAM.  I'm not under vCenter.  I installed this after attending a class on VMware vSphere there and now I'm just using it because I need to study the materials of many moons.  I left 40 days on the assessment.

I'm trying to add support for a PCIe card in VMware vSphere for a Linux CentOS client.  (Note that all customers react in the same way).

When I click on the Client and then 'change settings' > I see the dialog window 'Properties of the Virtual Machine' and the Add button.

When I click on ADD, I see the following:

    "PCI Device (not available)".

By clicking on the PCI device in gray reveals that:

This device cannot be added to this virtual Macine because:

There is no device for the PCI Passthrough on the host

    ---------------------------------

I have looked in a number of places but haven't seen any clear information about how to ADD a PCIe or PCI peripheral Passthough.

Can you tell me messages of the Forum or Documentation for this operation?

I run a vCenter evaluation copy to pull this off?  (And there are copies of assessment of vCenter even?)

    Thank you

    Tommy

Select the host, and then you will see the configuration tab.   Advanced settings is at the bottom left.

OK just see your message... good luck!

  • transmit vcenter newspapers (not the vcenter) central syslog server

    Hello

is there a way to transmit all headlines associated with an external syslog server vcenter? already, my whole army to esxi connect to this syslog server.

    Thank you uxmax

The title of your son is in contradiction with what you are trying to accomplish. It is not a default path to transmit the vCenter real server logs to syslog server external without writing some logic/scripts to essentially scrap logs and passes them to the wide. If you use the new vCenter Linux Appliance (vSphere 5), you can do it too but not on a Windows system, at least out of the box which is supported. It can be that you had to buy a part 3 for Windows application see if it can extract the application logs.

    Hello

I have installed the agent of sight, recorded the comments with the connection to the server and can connect using client PCoIP.  However copy/paste, drag-drop and file share do not work.

    I installed each open-vm-tools * available on the guest computer (apt - get install open-vm-tools-lts-faithful open-vm-tools-lts-trusty-dkms open-vm-tools-lts-trusty-desktop & & apt - get install open-vm-tools open-vm-Tools-office open-vm-tools-dkms) individually and together.

Running vmware-user-suid-wrapper manually in the connected session errorcould not open proc/fs/vmblock/dev .  lsmod does not show vmblock module loaded, nor can it be found if I attempt to modpobe it manually.

Anyone got this working on 14.04.03?

    My Versions:

    Agent: VMware-viewagent-linux-x86_64-6.2.0-3016404

    Kernel: 3.19.0 - 33-generic

    Open-vm - tools-*: 2:9.4.0 - 1280544-5ubuntu6

P.S. I don't think that this is not due to politics in sight connection to the server.  MMR, USB redirection are all enabled.

The documents are for vSphere, not Horizon Linux Desktop.

Linux Desktop 6.2.0 horizon has no support on the copy/paste.

Linux Desktop 6.2.1 horizon will be released soon, which has official copy/paste support on RHEL/CentOS 6.6 x 64. For Ubuntu 1204/1404 x 64, although there is no official support for copy/paste, it should work.
