vSphere 5 license for VMware ESX 3.5

Hallo

I have a couple of ESX 3.5 server that I need valid for vSphere 5 payments of lic. VMware (license Advisor) tool will not work with ESX 3.5, is there a toll there that I can use for ESX 3.5?

Nor will the one on the link below

http://www.virtu-al.NET/2011/07/14/vSphere-5-license-entitlements/

Thank you

Joseph

the only thing I can think is that you manage your VI3 hosts with vCenter 4.x. If this is the case it is not supported.

    Dear friends;

I heard that VMware releases update for VMware ESX 4.1 update 1. Could you please tell me if this is correct?

And would you please reference me this article?

ESX will not available in vSphere 5.0. It will be always supported in the same way that VI 3.5 is still supported, however. Here's an official blog stating that ESX 4.1 is the latest major version of ESX.

With the release of VMware vSphere 4.1, we announced that 4.1 will be the last version of vSphere to support the ESX and ESXi hypervisor architectures.

Do need me a separate license for VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat for a remote SQL Server database?

Only a single vCenter Server Heartbeat license is necessary to protect the components of the vCenter Server installed remotely, including SQL Server. A single license is also used for several UNIQUE for vCenter Server services protected authentication servers. A license is required per instance of vCenter Server.

lzrelak wrote: I saw the deal for VMWare Fusion for Mac includes a commercial license for VMWare player

No, VMware Fusion for Mac does not include a license for VMware Player it's VMware Fusion 5 Professional, which includes the license for VMware Player for commercial use.

so I was wondering, if I buy VMWare Fusion can I use the VMWare Player license on my Windows machine

With VMware Fusion 5 professional, Yes

is there a better way for me to get a commercial version of VMWare player without having to actually buy VMWare Workstation?

To use VMware Player commercially, buy VMware Fusion 5 license Professional even one chooses or can even use VMware Fusion 5 Professional. It comes through a convoluted cross-license that VMware has not done a very poor job of marketing and or explain and caused a lot of confusion among some users trying to interpret.

I read in a forum that vmware server 1.0.3 is a free software. You just have to register on the vmware site to get the free license key. This free software was interrupted by vmware? I couldn't find the software in the download page. Now, when I try to get a free license I am not able to understand how I can get that. I am part of the site, but where in the site can I get a free license? Can anyone please shed any light in this regard?

    Welcome to the community,

VMware Server has been abandoned for years. If you are looking for free products, take a look at VMware Player, or the free ESXi Hypervisor.

  • Where can I download public source for VMware esx 4.0?

I need to build the SATA driver for motherboard Gigabyte P55-USB3L.

    Thank you

    Hello

    Have a look here:

    http://downloads.VMware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_vsphere_4/4#open_source

Generation of a driver yourself is not for the faint of heart, it is not a matter of recompiling everything simply a driver linux, you will need to modify the sources to adjust for the kernel as ESX does things differently.

    Hope this helps,

  • Capture the statistical support for VMware Cluster

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my question. In the near future I will have a cluster vmware small I need to generate reports of use of resources on. I saw a tool called queryperf which seems to provide for all my needs and then some, but I'm not sure how get or use this tool.

I normally just jump on an esx host and try the command to see if I have it but I'm traveling at the moment and do not have access to one.

To wrap this up, I'm very keen to learn the following:

    How no one acquires queryperf?

Where the tool lauched from? (by this I mean: guest operating system, command-line esx host, ect)

How to run on a cluster vm instead of a single server/client integer.

Thank you for reading my post and I thank you for your help.

I'm not aware of a tool called queryPerf, but there is a VI API method called queryPerf() that allows you to query the performance data of your vCenter/ESX (i) /VM (s) http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vc-sdk/visdk25pubs/ReferenceGuide/vim.PerformanceManager.html#queryStats

A great place to start to look for some samples or past issues/scripts/utilities that could be used to question the different associated performance stats is the VI API forums: http://communities.vmware.com/community/developer/managementapi?start=0

There are also a few utilities preset that you can watch, onethat may be of interest is the viperformance.pl which is part of the VI Perl Toolkit Utilities http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/viperltoolkit/viperl15/doc/perl_toolkit_utilities_idx.html

Also, here is a collection of news and recent documentation concerning the performance collection/analysis using VI SDK/API: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9840

Recently, VMware has started a new podcast for developers called the Coffee Talk where various topics concerning VI SDK/API/scripting/etc will be covered and the first two were related to the new vSphere SDK but she also had a lot of good practices on the collection of performance data that relate to the current VI 3.5 and coming vSphere 4.0 that you might find useful : http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9912

You will be able to use the queryPerf() call in various set of programming languages (Perl, c#, .NET, PowerShell, etc) who can communicate with the VI SDK via the SOAP API. Depending on the platform and what type of data you want to collect, this should help you get started.

  • IPSec on VMWare ESX 5.1 communication problems

    Hello

We have 2 computer systems. You running us VMWare ESX 5.1 and the other is running Ubuntu 14.04. We have problems for IPSec to work between the two systems. We cannot find any documentation or known issues with IPsec on VMWare ESX 5.1, so we're going to reach out to the community.

    Here's what we did:

    1. we configured Ubuntu and VMWare systems to use IPv6, we can ping each other using IPv6.

    2. we configure IPSec on an Ubuntu operating system by following the instructions below:

    https://help.Ubuntu.com/community/IPSecHowTo

    3. we have followed the instructions below to configure IPsec on VMWare.

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1021769

    Here's the problem:

When 2 Ubuntu systems run IPsec, they are able to ping each other. However, when allow us IPSec communications between VMWare and Ubuntu, the ping is suspended.

Here is the result of the configuration of command esxcli on VMWare:

    UBUNTU. IPv6.ADDRESS-> Ubuntu IPv6 address

VMWARE. IPv6.ADDRESS-> address IPv6 from VMWARE

Name Source address Destination address State SPI Mode Encryption Algorithm, integrity algorithm to life

GoToDPSP UBUNTU. IPv6.ADDRESS/64 0 VMWARE. IPv6.ADDRESS/64 0 in ipsec transport GoToDPSA

    Here's what we found:

After debugging the problem (using tcpdump), we found that the VMWare system sends the ESP packets, but never sends a package AH (required for IPSec authentication). Even when the encryption protocol is null, the system of VMWare would always send ESP packets, but never once sent a package of AH.

Here is the resulting execution trace: Ubuntu - ping-> VMWare:

    ...

    IP6 UBUNTU. IPv6.ADDRESS > VMWARE. IPv6.ADDRESS: AH(spi = 0 x 00000256, seq = 0 x 16): ICMP6, an echo request, seq 1, length 64

    IP6 VMWARE. IPv6.ADDRESS > UBUNTU. IPv6.ADDRESS: ESP(spi = 0 x 00000300, seq = 0 x 3), length 160

    Summary:

There seems to be a problem with IPSec in VMWare ESX 5.1 on IPv6.

We noticed that the downloads section of the site support provided patches for VMWare ESx 4.x and earlier, but lack of patches for VMWare ESx 5.x.

Are there known issues in this area or available patches to fix this problem? Your kind suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry for the late reply, but here the analysis of what is happening and why you are experiencing a problem.

The Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP) to IPsec protocol will encrypt a payload of the packet and can

Optionally authenticate the packages as well. You do not include orders allowing you to set the

Security Association (SA) and political security (PS), but the output in your post indicates that you

you want to encrypt the payloads both authenticate packets in mode of transport between the hosts.

I don't know why the Ubuntu IPsec HowTo examples using protocols AH and ESP to encrypt and

authenticate the packets. In our view, it is best done in a single step with ESP, ESXi only

offer the option of AH with IPsec. Of course, this requires configuring the ESXi server and your

The host with a configuration of IPsec compatible Ubuntu (or any other operating system).

To illustrate, suppose the ESXi server has the address 2001:db8:1 and the host of Ubuntu has the

address 2001:db8:2. We will use cbc-3des for encryption of the useful and hmac-sha2-256 load for integrity

authentication mode of transport - just like in your message.

On the ESXi host, the commands to do this might look like this (of course, you need to generate your)

own keys and not re-use those I did).

    # Add the outbound security association ESXi

  • installation of licenses for unit 3 expiration vSphere ESX 4 & 1 vCenter server

    Hello

I have a problem with the installation of vSphere for unit 3 licenses expired ESX 4 & 1 Server vCenter.

I have server unit 3 ESX 4 & 1 vCenter server is installed on the evaluation version that all were connected and works well.

Today, I saw evaluation is expired and I have installed a license purchased for vCenter, now works well... & out of server ESX 3 1 automatically

Get connected & I have including the license key for this ESX box... but I was not able to enter a license key for other areas of ESX4 2.

So what I did is I connected ESX4 directly from vSphere client & entered a license key, its activated, but when I disconnected and tried to connect

Yet once vcenter, it does not say "your ESX Server license has expired.

So my question is why I can't bring back boxes ESX4 to vCenter?, what could be the possible solution?

    Help, please.

    Thank you

    Rashid

You can enter all vCenter licenses (all series numbers) and then just assign a particular series (or licenses of serial number) via vCenter.
