vSphere Client ESXi 4.1 keyboard repeats

I'm under ESXi 4.1.0 on a Dell PowerEdge 1850.  When I open a vSphere Client console window to a computer virtual desktop running Windows XP, just fine.  When I perform the same process of a Dell Latitude E6410 Laptop with Windows 7 SP1 of the keys that I sink into the virtual machine will scroll numbers 0-9.

For example, when you attempt to connect to dialog logon WIndows Server, in the user name entry I press the 'P' button twice, it will echo "01".   If I press the 'P' button again once it will echo '3' and so on.  I tried the new customer of ThinApped without any difference.  I also tried to create a new virtual machine from media and during the installation of the OS, before the key is always that numbers.

I tried this on the virtual machines running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Ubuntu with the same results.

I don't know what else to try.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just to eliminate any external cause, you use the following Norton antivirus on Windows 7 PCs with constantguard?

I've seen a number of occasions where constantguard has decided to enter the numbers you have described

I use a mixture of Windows XP, Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate and donlt have questions you specify (but do not use Norton)

  • Issue after changing the port used by the VSphere Client - ESXi 5

Being an ESXi 4 guy, I changed the default ports in the proxy.xml file as indicated: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1021199 as I always do. However, this time I did in ESXi 5, before reading the note: ' "for vSphere 5.0, if the proxy ports are changed, the new ports are not allowed through the firewall ESXi.".

I restarted the management agents and now of course, I can't seem to connent on the host ESXi 5 via any port, and I can't connect to disable the firewall using esxcli. Today what is the workaround?

    Thanks in advance.

You can access the physical console and go to DCUI and undo your changes... If you made a backup file of the xml file before you make changes, it should be as simple as copy back the original file.

  • ESXi/VSphere Client for free?

I downloaded and installed ESXi 5 on a server.

Then, I downloaded the client VSphere corresponding 5 so that I could connect to the ESXi host and create a virtual machine.  I get the following warning message:

Your evaluation license will expire in 60 days!

The evaluation license expires, the ESXi host may stop to manage all the virtual machines in its inventory.  In order to manage these machines, you must obtain and assign a license to your ESXi host.

I was under the impression that it was installing free so why I receive this notice of assessment?  I have download the client VSphere ESXi or bad?  Can't find anywhere to "activate" If the error disappears.  Is there another way to manage the server ESXi for free?

    Thanks in advance.

Usinf the vSphere client will connect you home - under the configuration tab you will find as software licenses - it is here where you can add the key to the ESXi host - you will get a waring by saying you will lose some functionality - evaluation license is taken more while the free license has all the features of the licnses Enterprise Plus as a repeated 8 vCPUs vs 32 and Manager of the host with vCenter's ability.

  • vSphere client using the name Netbios on ESXi host does not connect using the credentials of a Windows session

I have 3 ESXi 5.5 hosts, all connected to a single server vCenter, where we try to authenticate directly to the host by using the windows logon credentials. I have installation of the Administrators group of ESX and filled with the admin accounts that I want to be able to authenticate to the host. The Netbios name of the domain is tstdomain (for example) where the domain name is tstdomain.com. If I connect directly to a host and check the checkbox 'Use Windows Session Credentials', the vSphere client will default by using the Netbios name of tstdomain\adminusername and the connection will fail indicating that the username and/or password is incorrect. If I enter the domain name of tstdomain.com\adminusername, I am able to connect to the host without error.

Does anyone know how get past that this matter have the vSphere client uses the domain name or to use the Netbios name and connect with the credentials to active directory? I looked by editing the file/etc/hosts and checked that the SPN of the host is correct in active directory with the command hostname setspn - l, with no luck on one. I also tried to change the field of research for the Netbios name of tstdomain rather than the tstdomain.com domain name, also did not work.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions on how to correct the problem.

Seems that this issue was due to a slow network and the connection timeout when you try to talk to the domain controller. I am able to connect with windows creds now, but the connection is very slow. I increased the default period of 30 to 60 seconds to help work around the problem.

  • Cannot connect to the ESXi 5.5 with VSphere client

I have a new Dell server. I installed ESXi 5.5. I can ping and SSH in the host, but I can not connect with the vsphere client. I captured the vmkernel and host agent log management. I'm confused now as to what is the cause. I installed ESXi 5.5 on an SD card in the server. And like I said I can ping and SSH in the host.

OK, I found that it was associated with MTU, MTU under voltage has been set at 1500. These are Dell switches if it matters. I removed the MTU setting for the management ports and then I was able to connect to vsphere with no problems.

Anyone an idea why I can't extend the data store? The new drive is correctly detected.

  • Unable to connect to new ESXi 5.5 with vSphere Client hosts

Completed the new installation of ESXi 5.5 on two new Dell PowerEdge servers last night.

Trying to connect to them through the vSphere client fails.

I can ping both servers without any problems from the server where the vSphere client is installed (it is not a domain controller but a Windows 2003 server - it has not .net 3.5 SP1 is installed).

If I try to open the IP address of the host in a web browser http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx expires, however, if I try http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:902 It connects to the server, but rather than get the web page, I'm used to waiting with 5.1 I get this message:

"220 VMware authentication daemon Version 1.10: required SSL, ServerDaemonProtocol:SOAP, MKSDisplayProtocol:VNC, VMXARGS taken in charge, taken NFCSSL in charge." I get this exact message even though I have telnet to port 902.  So I know that I can speak to the host, but have no idea why I can't connect to it or they have the tools to display in a web browser. »

Try to use the same IP address with port 902 in the vSphere client to connect, I get this error:

vSphere Client could not connect to "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx".

A unknown connection error has occurred. (The client received an invalid response from the server. (The server committed a protocol violation. Article = ResponseStatusLine))

I noticed that there was a lag of 2 hours and 4 minutes between the host server and the client's server.  I have reset the time to match up in the BIOS of the host server.  The test gave the same results.

Probably unrelated, but throw it out there in case it points to an answer, when executing the "Test management network", ping passes to the default gateway and the DNS server secondary (which is Google 8.8.8.8) but fails for the main DNS (local IP) server and host name resolution is faulty.

Ideas, help or solution would be much appreciated.  I need to get the network to this customer virtualized this week, and I would prefer not to have to go back to 5.1 if possible.

    Thank you

    This is resolved.

And it's one of those things that you just kick yourself for.

I tried this on two servers, Server 2003 and using IE8

Tested a theory using a VPN to my laptop Windows 8 IE 10 and it has worked perfectly, then tested on a Server 2008 R2 using IE9 and it worked perfectly.

Installed Chrome on the two Server 2003 servers and worked perfectly.

So in the end it was IE8 that was not compatible and all the problems at the origin!

Thanks again to you Andrew for trying to help!

  • Unable to connect to esxi using the vsphere client

    Hello friends,

    I need a little help.

a 2 5.0 esxi host and a vcenter than VM.

My laboratory worked well for days, but all of a sudden do not know why I am not able to connect to ESXi hosts with vSphere Client.

Error: The request failed because the remote server has taken too long to respond.

Call "ServiceInstance.RetrieveContent" to "ServiceInstance' server '192.168.1.101' object failed.

Yes, I am able to connect to vCenter server, when it is connected to vCenter and open the console of the virtual computer, nothing shows up, it's a black screen, as if the virtual machine is turned off. It is with all the virtual machines on both hosts.

    1. I thought that it might have to do something with vCenter and I tried connecting to Host individually which I wasn't able to.

After completing a few KBs on vmware and some articles, I checked the status of the firewall on both hosts. (attached screenshot)

    8-7-2013 2-11-16 AM.png

Checked if my computer can talk to esxi host on port 80, 443, 902. all ports are accessible.

Disabled the Symantec endpoint protection and checked. no positive results.

Finally, I tried the ESXi web navigation browser host http://ESXi-IP-address which redirects me to HTTPS connection with Certificate error, when I continue with the cert error, loading of the URL guard and the host page doesn't appear as it should.

This questions are on both hosts. :-(

You guys can point me in the right direction to solve this problem.

    Thank you.

    Finally things started working now.

The problem was with the configuration of the workstation's NETWORK adapter.

The link on the NETWORK adapter speed was set to Auto negotiate (default), but the speed was detected as 100 Mbps instead of 1 Gbps and MTU has been set at 9014 which I defined manually long back.

Things use to operate in this configuration that I have configured hosts with MTU 9000 and cisco SMB switch default Jumbo.

the LinkSpeed of 100 Mbps is bugging me, after changing to 1 Gbps (manual setting) the card NETWORK has deactivated, and it reminded me to switch!

So I put the LinkSpeed Auto negotiation, MTU 9014, stop the two hosts, restart the switch. restarted my computer.

Since it uses for things were in a normal state.

Even the question of the console (black screen) disappeared. :-)

  • vSphere Client 5 U1 unable to connect to the host of U1 ESXi 4.1

    Hello

    I'm having a small problem.

I am currently using vSphere Client 5 U1 (5.0.0 Build 623373) to connect directly to ESXi hosts (still no vCenter).

I can connect successfully to 5.0 U1 hosts, but I have a few hosts U1 4.1 inherited in the lab which I just can't connect with.

A little research in the compatibility tables show that with the most recent client, I should be able to connect do former ESXi hosts.

However, when I try to connect to this host U1 4.1, I get a popup to update with the message "customer support required files must be extracted from the 'vsphereclient.vmware.com' server and installed". And then I get a prompt to install/save a Setup program.

What is this new installer? Another version of the Client? Have I not the newest one? Anyway, I can't complete the download for this new installer (connection failure).

The host of ESXi 4.1 is on the network and I can connect with an older Client (4.1) that is installed in a different workstation.

    What happens here?

    Thanks in advance!

You must install as vSphere client major versions (3, 4, 5) but VMware tries to make this process as transparent as possible. That's why it asks to install it automatically.

Once installed, just launch v5 and it automatically and transparently pass the correct version if you connect to a 4.x server.

  • Workstation / ESXi question - force vSphere Client to enter the CD-ROM drive

This week I started to develop a practical system at home for me to learn VMware administration and systems.

I installed ESXi 5 and Windows 7 Workstation 8, which is located in Windows Server 2008 on a server Dell T - 410 have a physical CD/DVD ROM drive.  In Win 7 I have the vSphere client installed and I get successfully to ESXi to manage and install other operating systems, which is where I'm stuck.  Note that, in my computer, I can take my Win 7 OS and in my computer has chosen to "eject" the drive with the OS I want to install.

I am trying to install several virtual machines and have created two "containers" / "stubs" for these virtual machines (a Red Hat and a Win 2008 Server) but cannot get the vSphere Client interface to take control of the drive and pass it to the open Console.

It is quite a matrix in the area of the drive options that is available.  What is the secret to be able to do this correctly, because all the videos I watched on YouTube where they are installing a system shows the OS that they install will ESXi very easily after choosing the CD/DVD-ROM drive... time to enter work station, which is where I'm NOT.

How do I properly set up my CD/DVD-ROM drives in my computer so that ESXi installs the operating system?  I chose each drive letter and the option available but are unable to install the operating system.

    Thank you

André Pett wrote: I think that we have understood this and that is the reason why WoodyZ mentioned ISO images.

Yes, thats why I said what I did, and also because it's been a while since I've run ESXi in a VM and when I did I think the only way that I could install the operating system in a virtual machine when ESXi is a virtual computer was too use ISO images, which, of course, since it's my preference anyway it did not matter.  Now I only mention this because I don't remember for sure and using pictures is really the best way to go anyway.  Also, I don't have time to install ESXI in a virtual machine and go through the motions again.

I'm looking to deploy a new ESXi server.  I am considering using 5.0 instead of 4.1.  Can I use the vSphere Client 5.0 to manage my 4.1 older servers or should I keep the customers the same version as the servers?

We use Essentials so our configuration of VMWare is not very complicated.

    Welcome to the community,

VMware uses an individual customer for each version. However, the version can co-exist and you start really is a launcher that determine the ESXi/vCenter version you will connect to and then starts the appropriate customer.
