W540: Optimum Configuration RAM

I recently added 8 GB of RAM to my W540 (2 x 4 GB) to complement my existing 8 GB (2 x 4 GB). The existing memory is that the factory installed Samsung memory (PC3-12800). I bought a few Crucial PC3-12800 with a latency higher case. I would like to adjust so that one of my two memory channels is only to Samsung and the other is Crucial.

Currently I have the memory Crucial on the two slots closest to the keyboard and the nearest the bottom memory Samsung. Speccy says that is Crucial memory in slots 1 and 4, while the Samsung memory is in slots 2 and 3. It is the most effective configuration, or should I swap two of the slots?

You find it difficult to notice a difference, but a pair must be next to the motherboard. (one on top and one on the bottom) The other pair should be on 2 more slots away from the motherboard

Hi, my L - 20 Satellite has a memory of 512 mg installed, I buy anti-spam memory ram of 1 GB to increase my memory and put it in the second slot.
This block of RAM works well because I remove the old block of 512 MB and put it in the biggest and the BIOS recognizes it well.

BUT, if I put the block two ram, BIOS recognize only half of the block of ram 1 GB, if in addition it recognize 1 GB total RAM instead of 1.5.

This slot machine configuration doesn t exist and if you use compatible RAM modules it will be recognized correctly.

Can you please give us more info on this 1 GB RAM module?

Hi guys, I have a Pavilion dv7-4114tx, which comes standard with 2 x 4 equal concert stick with 8 GB of ram. Can the dv7-4114tx, take two 8-gig sticks to match the 16 GB of ram. If so, what speed/configuration Ram should I buy? Thank you. There seems to be various options - hp told me yes today on the phone, but the forums indicate no?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi @Gazzzz,

Please consult the page # 3 of the manual below where it shows the maximum RAM supported on this device is 8 GB. It is 4 GB on each slot.

  • N2048 - VoIP QoS, data Ports and trunk Configurations

    Hi all

I am new here and also new to work with the Dell Networking hardware. I just need to some insights into setting up a new network, that I put. We use 3 switches to N2048 for access to data and VoIP. Each port will have only have only a phone or a client PC in different VLANS.

My question is what is the best configuration across all three powered to ensure that we have the optimum configuration for the quality of service for VoIP phones. Here is the configuration that I came up with this day.

    Global configuration

    VLAN, VoIP

    Voice port

    item in gi1/0/1 interface
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan 5
    VLAN 5 voices
    Voice vlan dot1p 5
    output

    Client port PC

    access mode swithport
    swithport access vlan 10

    Trunk Port

    Te1/0/1 interface
    switchport mode general
VLAN allowed switchport General add 5,10,100
    switchport General pvid 100
    VLAN 5 voices
    output

    Thanks for the comments

By default, the ports are configured to trust the priority of incoming user. So for your switch connections you can configure ports and trunk mode, there is no need to set general mode with VLANs voice, etc.

    switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk allowed vlan add 5, 10, 100

    switchport trunk vlan 100 native

For ease of deployment, I suggest to all the other general mode ports.

    switchport mode general

VLAN allowed switchport General add 5,10

    pvid switchport General 10

    VLAN 5 voices

With the general mode configuration, you can connect a client or a phone, or both at the same time, in a port. This will make things easy if later you decide to plug a phone in where a customer to reside.

  • Linux swap file

    Hello

someone knows the recommendations pour configuration the swapfiles for Linux servers on an ESX environment to avoid the double permutation or least have the optimum configuration?

    Thank you

    David

    Hello to you,

Usually it is recommended to have 1.5 to 2 times in Exchange the memory size up to ' to 2 GB max.

But it is not always necessary.  We remind that the swap file is used unless it is out of memory.  So if is certain that he won't miss memory, can put less.

In addition, in a machine virtual is much easier to add memory ram on a server, so it can afford a little less swap.  With Vsphere 4, we can even add memory in stop the virtual machine.

In addition, needed it is extremely easy to add the swap on a virtual server, come in 3 orders.

When the double swap, I not sure what you mean.  Is that what you're talking about because of missing memory in the party machine and the ESX Server?

    I hope this helps you.

  • MacBook Air 13 vs MacBook Pro 13 Retina Display

Hello! I worked as a teacher in a dental school & I'm an orthodontist by Profession.

So far, I was using a Windows laptop. Now, I am planning to buy a MacBook.

I did some research and I found two best options:

MacBook Air 13 inch or Macbook Pro 13 inch Retina display

My work includes the drafting of documents, Internet browsing, electronic mail, preparation of presentations. We also regularly take pictures of our patients. I will also use the software of management of patients. Watch movies from time to time.

Please help me to choose between the two options above.

What configuration (RAM & storage) agree?

I intend to keep the MacBook for next 5-6 years.

I also read in some messages that some changes are in the pipeline for Macbook Air in this year.

    DR. VIKAS SEHGAL

    India

There are always changes in the "pipeline" but we do not know what they are and we are discouraged from their review.

If what you have described is your needs, an MBA and a MBP has them will satisfy.  As I see it, it's a matter of your preference of views respective (classic vs retina) and costs are related.  The MBA has long battery life and is lighter than the MBP, but maybe it's not important to you.

    Ciao.

Addendum: as a general rule, install at least 8 GB of RAM and get as much storage as the bank account permits.  The processor speed is by far the less important material.

  • 2nd new power will not work. I need to change jumpers MB or something? (Presario sr511onx)

Just installed a CoolerMaster 500w (RS-500-PCAR/P-03), only to have the rotation of the fan cpu for a second, then nothing.

A few days ago I tried with a PS I had fired a new case in years. The blue led fan (in the FP) turned on for a second and then more nothing. (I kind of thought he had been thrown out a bit in recent years and was a cheapy anyway), so I put the PS original back in and ordered the CoolerMaster.

Original PS works fine, but I need more power for a PCI-e video card.

Are their MB jumpers that need to be changed or something? What Miss me?

The original PS has a 20 mb, just like the CoolerMaster connector, but the CM has the additional 4 available.

    Are they necessary?

Presario (sr511onx) has the original configuration (ram / cpu, etc), except:

Installed Win - XP Pro instead of original Vista

Added the: 1 PCI Sound Card (SB Audigy Gamer II)

1 card PCI Video, (NVidia 1 gig)

    1 hard disk

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,

    Thank you.

    Hi all

I recently upgraded my RAM to 3 GB, 6 GB. But when I check the properties of the computer, it shows 6.00 GB available (2.99 GB of usable RAM)

Original configuration RAM - 1 GB RAM 1 x and 1 x 2 GB RAM in both slots.

    Configuration upgrade RAM - 1 x 2 GB of RAM and 1 x 4 GB of RAM

    Measures already carried out-

    1. install the BIOS firmware latest version

2 there is no Configuration of the Chipset to adjust memory remapping in BIOS

    3 unchecked - MSconfig > Boot > Advanced Options > memory Maximum

4 resource monitor > memory tab

    5. I have nVidia GEForce video card, but don't know if it is that which is eaten my RAM

6 BIOS information shows 6144 MB of available RAM

7 changed the RAM sticks, but no change

    8. the two sticks are very good because the BIOS displays 6 GB of available RAM

Please suggest if I can do something to get this corrected.

  • upgrade memory dv6226us

I have a laptop with Vista Home Premium DV6226US and 1 GB of memory (original configuration).  The computer began to run very slowly, and I am debating whether to increase the RAM to 2 GB or 4 GB.

    (1) what is the maximum memory that can be installed on this computer?  There are two sites of memory in the chassis, but I can't find the maximum capacity in the system documentation.

    (2) has seen improved with an upgrade memory performance?

    (3) any benefit of upgrading to Windows 7?

    Thank you.

    Hello

    1. please use the following link, you can buy them or aid info (including price) to buy elsewhere:

    http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/Pavilion+dv6000+series/Pavilion+dv6226us-upgrades.html

2 as you can see from the above link: max is 2 GB. This site can also help you to analyze your computer to check the configuration (RAM).

    3. normally from 1 GB to 2 GB, you can feel a lot of improvement, but after that time very difficult to see, even we know it's there. The upgrade to Windows 7 will help but not interesting at this stage, given that Windows 8 is the corner of the street.

My suggestion: upgrade of RAM only and save money for new machine later.

    Kind regards.

  • Wireless antenna

I'm sure I already know the answer to this question, but I thought I would check with the experts on this forum before you continue.

After a large distorted mother card, I decided to pick up a T41 on eBay, put in my old hard drive, RAM and make all updates.  The laptop works fine except that it does not display Intel PRO Wireless. So long, I forgot that at the time many laptops do not have wireless. I forgot to check that.   Morale-"never assume."

Question is this: I can not just drop my wireless adapter Intel PRO to my laptop dead in this laptop because I would always be without antenna - right?  No chance that these were all built with antennas even though wireless has not been ordered? (Kind of like at the time where cars built without radios that still had the wiring for them.)  It was less expensive on an assembly line to build them with the wiring, because so little has no radio command.)  Does anyone know?  We're talking T41 2373-7FU here Type.

I should just go buy a 802. 11 b/g Wireless PC Card and do with it--right?

Since these old laptops, wireless, were only 802. 11 b, will be a 802. 11 b / g adapter card still works at only the data rates 'b' or will they work to 'g' if the latest drivers are installed?

    Thank you.

What can I say?  Apparently, this particular T41 2373-7FU came not with a wireless card.  I checked in Device Manager > hardware > network adapters and it has not detected any wireless card.  I doubt that this card would have been deleted.  The laptop looks untouched inside.  He had left it's anemic 512/256 configuration RAM when I bought it.

In all cases, the best thing to do is to buy a 802.11 b/g wireless external card that fit comfortably into the PCI slot on the side.  I never use this niche anyway, and this leaves the remaining two available USB slots.  In addition, a new wireless card allows you to start with the wireless G and drivers that show the update in September 2010.  The simplest solution is often the best.   It works, I'm wireless throughout the House.

My thanks to everyone for their help.  This is what makes this forum so great.

  • No more available space and snapshots not taken (VEEAM)

    Hi all

I have a BIG problem here and I do not see how to solve.

For your info, I know my SAN is complete and really isn't a good way to run VMware, but I'm about to order the new SAN and servers this week.

Right now, I have 3 data store. the one with the question is just related to Exchange 2007 and have total 380 GB.

VEEAM has taken a backup of it and he sews it has never deleted the snapshot.

So this morning, I got an instant "suppression" message on my VMware, Exchange is frozen and so was VEEAM.

I have restart VEEAM, but I can't do a thing with seams Exhcnage is 'instant withdrawal. " No option available at the time where so he tries to remove it.

But I guess it will never end because no more space is available.

And I don't have any space anought on any data store to hold my Exchange Server...

    Can I do it fast?

If I browse the data store, there is

    Exchange_1 - 0000001.vmdk

    Exchange_1 - 0000002.vmdk

    Exchange - 000002.vmdk

It seems that something is missing (Exchange - 000001.vmdk)

Well, please help, I'm stuck here!

    Martin L.

Depends on the amount of RAM allocated to each of your virtual machines.

There is a file (*.vswp), which is equal in size to the RAM configured for each virtual computer (unless there is a reserve memory for this virtual machine). Sometimes, if you're not too committed on physical RAM, setting a reserve memory for each equal to the configured RAM virtual computer will allow just enough room to go back to the feature (power - on virtual machines).

The VMFS file system can be extended dynamically on Lun - to remove the snapshot for Exchange successfully, you may need to extend the VMFS volume where it is located. There are many ways to do this that go from 'good' to a bit dodgy.

    1. Best option: get your new business SAN and to create a LUN on where you can extend your existing VMFS volume, allowing enough space to commit the snapshot
    2. Improvised #1: Use an old server or workstation decent and build something like Openfiler, where you can introduce iSCSI and extend your VMFS
    3. Improvised #2: Use a physical Windows Server or workstation and the Wind Star to present an iSCSI LUN and expand your volume
    4. Out and buy a computer from office-SAN as Synology, present an iSCSI LUN and extend your volume

Important: once the snapshot is engaged, move the virtual machine complete a contiguous VMFS volume on a single logic unit number and delete the extended volume!

Good luck. Full VMFS because of clichés is a bitch! I have treated several times in a support capacity.

  • Trying to copy a virtual machine from one server to another

    Hi all

I'm new to ESXi 4, although I used VMWare Workstation for years.  I am trying to copy a virtual machine from a Windows system (Sysprep) from one host to another.  The two hosts are identical systems with the exact same ESXi host configuration.  Same hw, same version of ESXi, same setup, same size of the partition.

When I use the Vsphere data store browse to 'download' the vmdk and vmx files to a local drive (Windows Server 2003), I get the following 3 files: the same vmx file, a tiny vmdk file and a file huge filename - flat hard.  The file vmdk on browser to store data from the source host is about 23 GB.  The flat on the local system vmdk file is almost 63 GB.

Can I reopen Vsphere on the destination server and "load" the 3 files in a directory that I created in the data store.  Once there, I use the browser "Add to inventory."  When I try to turn on the virtual machine, I get the error message "not enough space on the data store."

Any ideas of what I could have done wrong?  Again the data store configuration is identical:

Local disk to VMware: 62.95 GB, Total formatted capacity: 62,75 GB.  1 VMFS 3.33 MB block size it's the only VM on the system.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark

What you see is by design.

When you try to copy a disc loaded end service, with the browser data store or FastSCP, the virtual disk will be inflated. Use the converter such as recommended by AlbertWT.

Since the virtual disks of destination must already 60 GB of disk space you may not able to power on the virtual machine, because there is not enough disk space for the swap file, which is the size of the configured RAM (less reserve, if necessary).

  • Sizes of mixed memory in Dell R710 to reach speeds of 1333 mhz and 800 mhz

We have some Dell R710 which was originally ordered with 48 GB in a configuration of 1333 mhz 12x4Go (RDIMMS). We ordered 6 sticks of memory of 4 GB 1333 mhz additional to complete all 18 banks for a total of 72 GB.  The speed of the memory, then decreased to running at 800 mhz.  We had immediately complaints on the performance in some of our mission critical VM (terminal Server and SQL DBs servers), so we have VMotion their due on a R710 still on the original 12x4Go config clocked at 1333 mhz and complaints went.  I spoke with pre-sales both Dell and after-sales technical support and they confirm that filling all 18 banks decreases speed to 800 mhz, but I get conflicting reports which must be running 12 banks (which is configured as 2 of the 3 banks available in each 6 channels) at 1 066 mhz now which is not. Still, both say that my best option is to return the modules to 4 GB bought recently and also pull the original 12x4Go modules and replace them all by 12x8Go 96GB and should operate at 1333 mhz.  It is really more memory I need and almost three times that I have already budgeted and spent on extra 4 GB of purchase sticks.

The other option, you said I could do, as well as that of my question is to mix 6x4Go and 6X8Go, up to 72 GB.  I see also that is a configuration of memory available on the Dell Web site during the construction a R710, and he said 1333 mhz as well.  Technical support before and after had these things to say, and it makes me a little nervous because this isn't an absolute 'you'll be fine:

    prior support guy:

"Everything I read or say confirms that it is perfectly fine to mix the modules in sizes too long as modules within each channel are the same size." I think it can be recommended by most to ensure the consistency of the size but as I said before that we have in our new server system configurations to be cited with mixed sizes what makes me even more confident that is you went this route you would be fine and little or no experience in performance decline. »

    support after guy:

"Regarding your new question on the use of 6 DIMM 4 GB mixed with 8 GB for a total of 72 GB, which is not an optimum configuration, but I don't think you should really meet a lot of problems with it."  I mentioned before that if you mix speeds, it will downclock fastest at the speed of slow DIMM DIMMS, so certainly would advise against mixing speeds. Regarding the size, the only thing you might encounter as it is booting, you can hear this isn't an optimal configuration, but it should detect any memory and be able to make use of this.  Don't think there is really a performance reached unless you're missing speeds.  «Also, don't forget to reflect your configuration across all channels, if you do not want all of the 4 GB and 8 GB in the same configuration such that put all 8 GB in slots 1/2/3, then put the 4 GB DIMMs in 4/5/6 on both machines slot A and B.»

So the real question is - if it is not a "optimal" configuration, which makes it means the actual performance of my vSphere servers?  All done and they have problems?

    Thank you

    Ben

How about using 8x8GB sticks for each host? You'd get to 64 GB each... I'd like to see if Dell will allow you to trade in the memory, you do not have to purchase new memory inside the host... Or look for another provider of memory which will provide you with the correct memory at a better price.

FWIW, the El Capitan applications are no different from Yosemite. In fact, it is easier on resources in some areas. The main thing you need to worry is to make sure the software and equipment to use is compatible. Make sure you have a good backup in case you change your mind and want to downgrade.
