What happens at VM cluster HA - DRS

Hi all

can someone please clarify

AP / DRS I understand is

If I HA single ESX VM cluster resumes on next available host.

If I single cluster DRS of ESX - VM ESX vmotion will busy unless charges ESX (- from charge - which means more CPU / memory)

Question: what happens to VM on HA - DRS cluster. ??

Scenario; VM is part of ESX, which has properties of HA - enabled DRS.

I have one of the ESX restart. Automatically virtual for next ESX vmotion machine? It also RESTARTS on next available ESX

Q is going to restart or not restart?

-J' hope I'm clear (do not confuse you)

It's pretty simple:

HA--> HA--> VM restarts when an unexpected failure has caused your VMs to descend

DRS--> Distributed Resource Scheduler--> Can migrate seamlessly to the VMS between hosts when there is an imbalance of the burden of your cluster. You can also use "maintenance mode" to evacuate a host when you know that something is about to go wrong.

So in answer to your questions:

If you restart one of the guests then:

(1) you would have of the placed in maintenance mode before hand and VMs will be migrated to another host (vmotioned)!

(2) If you forgot to put in maintenance mode that will be restarted the virtual machines.

  • What happens when a cluster strengthen type has an element of his data modified by two different vi?

    I like the use of a cluster/typedef to use as a mechanism to bring together all the variables I want to deal with a VI.  Now, I create a second vi... and also use the tyepdef cluster to create a thread with the same variables in it.  Are instances of variables in vi1 separated by instances of vi2... If Yes, is there a mechanism to pass values back and forth effectively between the two vi... would it be a (gag) overall with a sweep at each end?

    A typedef simply sets a control as being a certain sense 'typical'. Its basic structure cannot be really changed with the editor control, but when it changes, it changes are propagated to where ever the control is used. Now, after you have created this typedef control you can use it to transmit data between vi in several ways. The least popular in the currents of thought is the global. The reasons been talked to death in this forum. Another method would be to use a "functional global"alias "LabVIEW 2 overall style", which has him enjoying it's locked, while any vi accessed. " Still another method would be to write in a queue in one vi and read in the other. There is a new 'global', which has its uses, called the "shared variable" all of them have advantages and disadvantages. Research on the terms highlighted for more information.

  • What happens if you add a new node of current cluster, while the CPU of the new node is slower quality?

    Hello

    I have a 3 node RAC, I want to add a new node to the current cluster... While the new node processors are slower that others... what happens?

    (my problem is: I can add that new node successfully? if yes, can even improve the performance of the entire cluster or not?)

  • What happens if vcenter fails?

    While in a meeting, when I tried to sell the idea of vmware, I was thrown a question, what happens if vcenter breaks down.

    How we prevent that? Make 2 VMS in vcenter too? I intend to have a virtual machine running vcenter. Is this good practice.

    God of the times like these that I wished I could read books faster like a hollywood robot 1965!

    Please help.

    Thank you

    RJ

    We will all live a virtual life...

    If your instance of vCenter falls down, your ESX hosts and their guests will continue to operate normally for 14 days without access to the source of their license (assuming that your vCenter Server server is also source of license).  HA will work.  DRS will not be, but that's all.

    The most important piece about vCenter, in my opinion, is the DB.  Take care of your DB.  Make sure that it is on a separate server and running on a cluster solution.

    You can look at VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat if you're looking in a redundancy for your instance of vCenter.

  • What happens if several consumers - whose architecture SW should I use?

    There are several models of VI and documentation on the producers/consumers type aqrchitectures

    I have some experience with LV, but limited experience with multi-threading programs and events.

    My question is what happens if the consumer also produced data? ... the tutorials do not really extend to it.

    In my application, I have 3 USB CAN transmitters and a NOR-DAQ.

    I intend to have loops or threads for each multiple hardware device at the lower level.

    There will be a loop of the UI (producer) and a "test step sequencer" interpret the activity of the façade and send commands to the hardware devices to take action or perform a measurement.

    My main problem is what is the best method/practice of transmission of data to the 'test step sequencer' material once the acquisition is completed?

    Do you use the same queue to pass data back (for evaluation of success/failure analysis and test) or any other method.

    This might work.

    A difference between the Registrant and the queues is that with queues, you can be sure that the loop of consumer gets the message (assuming that there is no problem with the producer generating and sending).  Even if the consumer is busy doing other things, the message waits in "inbox" of the consumer until he is ready to read.

    A notifier, there is no guarantee that every piece of code that expects a notification will get all messages.  Think that the declarant is a whiteboard.  A message to put out there for anyone interested to read.  But when a new message to be sent, the sender is declined, clears the Board and writes the new message.  If someone who is interested in messages has been busy and you can't go to the Commission while the first message is there, it will never see the message.

    If you want to ensure that each loop gets all their messages, then just a queue for each loop that behaves like an Inbox.  If you need to send the same message to several loops, then queue the data in multiple queues.  If you get a message back, enqueue sending loops reference to queue in the data (self-addressed stamped envelope).  (you can also put a Boolean value in the cluster that could be an indicator as to whether the 2nd loop should send something again or not.)  If you need the first loop to wait for the return data before you go, then he's waiting in the queue.  But you can use the time-out function so that it is not wait forever for something that never comes back and integrate logic into your program so that it can handle this situation (doing nothing, resend the message, open a session, or displays an error message...)

  • VADP conscious image of backups, what happens during the vmotions?

    I'm doing an assessment of the Simpana9 and curious (before I test and screw something up) what happens if during the backup of the imagae, either during the skirmish or save the wink, if the VM vmotions to a new ESX host or storage vmotions to a new data store. VADP queue it until after?

    Thank you!!

    Hello

    You shouldn't see any problems even if the migration of VM using vMotion. But Storage vMotion while backup may cause a backup failure. However a subsequent backup storage vMotion position will succeed.

    5.1, option of migration itself is disabled during the backup. This means that you will not be able to do a manual migration of virtual machines, while the backup is in progress. However this does not affect the VMS DRS automated clustered

  • What happens if you're underlicensed for MRS.

    So I'm a consultant, and I just finished a SRM installation for a client who still uses the old by proc license model, which has two licenses for more that he needs.

    He asked me 'what happens to my existing configuration, if I add a 4 socket to the cluster server, it would break everything and if not, he would break, which would be protected, which would not be.  If I had a disaster which could I see any more, anything / any thing/nothing? »

    If anyone knows the effect of hitting SRM licensing limits in each CPU model your info would be thank you very much.

    SRM 4.1 if you use a proc license so if you try to protect a virtual machine on a host which until now has NOT hosted any other protected the computer virtual hosting will have been allocated MRS. keys... SO... when you are trying to protect a virtual machine on that host THAT SRM will try to assign the exact number of keys per-proc to the host. If you have not enough keys to allow fully all procs on the host, the task will succeed, but from that point on the client will be harassed by SRM (event generation in vCenter) permanently, to remind them that they are now in the violtation of the license and need to allocate more keys.

    If you had the same scenario but they key in use were eval keys NOT buying keys then when the eval expires his game more than you would NOT be able to protect ANY more VM and you would again be harassing messages to tell that you are now in violation of the EULA. Note If your EVAL key expires in production it's a BIG problem if you have 'forgotten' to buy a real key because we will also prevent failovers occur.

  • What happens if the vCentre server fails

    We will have two hosts ESXi in a center of blade HP c7000 with a distributed vswitch

    The vCenter software will install a separate physical machine with the stroed in the database on our SQL2005 server again a separate physical host.

    A few questions on this configuration.

    1. what happens if the vCentre server loses the connection to the database server?

    2. what happens if the vCentre server loses the connection with the center of HP Blade?

    3. what happens if the vCentre loses the connection with the database server and the Server Blade HP?

    The biggest concern we have is if all the foregoing happen our system will fall, not being able to accessed from the main network, and since it will be the host of our messaging platform I'm eager to get this right.

    Thank you

    Kimble

    The configuration you describe will not let you take advantage of VMware HA because VMware HA will still work even if vCenter isn't up - so if the virtual hosting machine a vCenter runs in a HA cluster the VM resumes if the host it will run on fails.

  • Create a cluster w / drs options...

    OK, so I don't see what I'm doing wrong.  Here is my code snippet:

    My $drsvmcfg = ClusterDrsVmConfigInfo - & gt; New (behavior = & gt; 'Manual', enabled = & gt; 'true');

    My $drscfgspec = ClusterDrsVmConfigSpec - & gt; New (info = & gt; $drsvmcfg);

    My $ccsspec = ClusterConfigSpecEx - & gt; New (drsVmConfigSpec = & gt; $drscfgspec);

    My $new_cr;

    {eval

    $new_cr = $host_folder_view - & gt; CreateClusterEx (name = & gt; $cluster_name, spec = & gt; $ccsspec);

    }

    It does not return errors, but at the same time does not create the cluster.   Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

    Here is the code snippet to create a cluster with DRS options. To activate the options of DRS and setting default virtual machine behavior, you must set the property drsConfig instead of drsVmConfigSpec. The 'drsVmConfigSpec' property must be set when you change the configuration of the cluster, and you want to change for a particular virtual machine DRS.

    The code below will create a cluster, select the DRS and will set the level of automation on "manual".

    My $drscfginfo = ClusterDrsConfigInfo-> new (defaultVmBehavior = > DrsBehavior-> new ('manual'), enabled = > 1);

    My $ccSpec = ClusterConfigSpecEx-> new (drsConfig = > $drscfginfo);

    My $new_cr;

    {eval

    $new_cr = $host_folder_view-> CreateClusterEx (name = > "testNehaClusterXYZ", spec = > $ccSpec);

    };

    If ($@)

    Hope the above information is helpful.
