  Because you will lose the lot, you will need to restore from your external backup. If you do not back up your files regularly then it is a good time to review your backup strategy.

  You can always back up your files to boot the machine with a Ubuntu boot CD. Unfortunately, it is much more difficult than restoring from a backup disk.

  If your version of 'old' is, I think that CS6 or later, CC 2015 will pick up the sites automatically. If it is older, you will probably need to export/import your sites manually. To do this, it is quite simple...

  1. in the former DW, go to Site > Manage Sites

  2 Select all your sites, and then click Export. This will create for each site .ste files. Sometimes, depending on your version, highlighting all will not work and you will have to highlight and one at a time to export. No big whoop, pay attention to where they are registered.

  3. close the former DW and open the new

  4. go to Site > Manage Sites > import and access these .ste files import them

  That's all.
