I tried to install a program and I got an error message that says "Windows Installer" is not installed correctly and I need to contact the support staff. I get also a message when I log that says steetings.ini is occupied by another program and it will not allow the sidebar to come.
Try the Windows Installer Cleanup utility to troubleshoot the problem with Windows Installer:http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.shtml.
For the issue of the Sidebar, do a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135. If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit at the origin of the problem. Follow the procedures described in the article. Once found, remove, delete, disable or uninstall. Once remember to put Vista in normal status, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal and reboot - this solution will not work.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!

I seem to have many problems. I have problems with the installation of an update of Windows because I get an error code 80070641.
I am also unable to update Adobe Reader. I get a message to repair Adobe Reader software. When I do that, I get a message from 1500 failed.
I'm unable to install iTunes or upgrades of Java because of this problem of installation of Windows.
Please help me! I spent the days and hours searching for solutions and none of them do not seem to work.
Something that I see it is that I'm running Vista 64 bit and my system maintenance says 32-bit. I have Vista Home Premium.
The following might be able to help:
1. start > Search box > type services > press the Enter key > uac prompt > scroll to Windows Installer > under Startup Type, it should be MANUAL.
If not, right click on Windows Installer > properties > under Startup type, change it to manual > OKIt's working now?
