What is how best to manage the product in use keys?

My questions are below.  These questions were raised because I wanted to install the software for which product keys have been provided, but I realized that I wasn't sure of key that had been previously used.  I thought I would just look at the product installed for his key. After an online search, it seems that is not possible and I think I understand why, but I'd like confirmation of my understanding or correction my understanding if I don't have it right.

Therefore, I have 2 questions (attention he received questions for each question):

(1) are the product keys not available for viewing on the computer where the software is installed?  Is - it to protect against software piracy?

(2) what is the best way to manage the installation of the software to ensure that we remain within the limits of our license?  Do we not have manual records every time we install a software application?  Or y at - it a program that can be used to collect and total software in use with its product keys?

I posted this under Windows 8, but I also have Windows 7 machines in use.

    In this context, how are other developers management old application written in older versions of labview.  Right now I have a PC virtual on my system 7.1, 8.0, 8.2 and 8.5 running on different virtual PC so I can keep each installation separate.  I highly recommend this approach.  But keep my large libraries of separate code is difficult.  They are several GB, they all relate to each other, and I always get worried, even when I separate them into different directories that somehow labview will search in the wrong place and find the wrong version of a subvi.  Other people are also trying to keep copies separate from all their code in versions different labview?  How other people handle this problem?

    The hierarchy of the following directories, coupled with a VI "hierarchical" naming strategy, have been effective (for me) to prevent "Crosslinking" through projects and versions of LV. The hierarchy of storage has been designed for use in an environment of CSC, but works very well regardless. Hierarchical naming ensures unique names for application-specific files.     Use a magnifying glass and a strong light and see if you can decipher the worn characters.  There is no trace of the key so if you do not you will need to follow the instructions of Toshiba for restoring your windows with the recovery disk.

    MS cannot act until a key hit a threshold (they won't say an outsider that this threshold is, of course). They then put it in the internal systems to ensure that all stakeholders are informed, just in case it was an oversight - then it gets into the queue for the next update of the system. I don't know how many times WAT control system is updated, but I guess that it is not more than once a week because of the admin and synchronization issues. The internal processes of MS could easily take a couple of weeks.

    It therefore depends on how near the end of a list of vendors in sale you are and how much time he sells them.

    As noted, my motherboard has failed.  IDE only AGP CPU core.  Not much use trying to find anotherof those.  Replaced the motherboard with a newer version.  It has SATA, multi core processor, etc.  Processor and HARD drive had to be replaced.

    My Vista home premium 32 bit running on my machine for years.  I loaded it on the upgrade with no problems.  Went to windows update and SP1 and then SP2 and all other windows updates suggest and worked very well, for a few days.

    Now, I get a message that the product key is already used and need to buy AnotherOne coming soon.

    I didn't really want to do.
